I tried the protontricks solution below but it didn't work, still stuck on black screen.
While the game is broken with Proton 5.0, it's fine with 4.11
Doesn't matter if you enable Vsync or not there is an irritating tearing.
When I try to change the game from fullscreen to windowed or the other way it's crashing right away.
The game has minor problems on GNOME and KDE but it works perfect on i3wm. No crashing, no tearing, just perfect.
It used to be great but apprently the last update broke the game. Out of the box, tha game crashes right away without the launch options.
NOSTARTUP SKIPINTRO %command%
It seems they finally broke the game whole. The cabextract DLL workaround doesn't work anymore and single player barely works now.
You can connect to servers and start playing but the game kicks everyone out immediately.
So far it has pretty good performance on Proton.
Had to disable "Easy Military Drag" option because moving cursor to screen edges to navigate map doesn't work.
I'll add more detailed review when I played more.
There are some problems but gameplay and graphic wise it's platinum.
Achievements don't advance anymore. (At least it's like this after the USA DLC update.)
It's borked
Probably it's an anti-cheat kinda thing.
The game works just fine without any tweaks.
Haven't tried multiplayer.
Does not require other tweaks anymore but font rendering still not good on 5.13 so I installed corefonts.
protontricks 105450 corefonts
There is a very slightly wheezing sound on the background.
If you use Proton 6.3, the game does not save your progression. 5.13 however doesn't have this problem.
Added my screen resolution to launch options which is "xres=1920 yres=1080" and select bypass launcher to run it. Without this launch option it immediately stops running at the beginning. Also turned V-sync off for better performance.
Almost platinum
The game works perfect with 60 FPS (after you change ini file) and only one time it had crashed. After using D9VK never crashed again.
The game stuttering out of the box so using D9VK may limited that.
Add this to launch options:
PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%
Use the 60 FPS workaround for a better performance. Also turning off post processing may be beneficial for you.
The game opens, main menu and settings seem to work but gets black screen after you start a map.
Aside from the occasional freezing it was fine.
Half of the time seeing the map (either you open manually or at the beginning of briefing) can cause freezing and cannot be stoppable via Steam, had to be sigkill (I used btop and it was fine).
Good old classic
There is a shader issue where shadows are flashing. But it's not exactly Linux related. You'll need to install HD shader mod and you're good to go.
Seems like starting but doesn't go further than that.
I tried different Proton versions including GE, also needed a user agent switcher to fool BattleLog. When I start the campaign, a window opens but nothing happens. It just stays in black screen.
There were some texture overlapping on ultra settings but it was not present on high.
Had to manually put the game into fullscreen, otherwise it just stays in black doing nothing.
I previously was mistaken, the game does work but it doesn't look like that unless I put it into fullscreen manually.
Sticks at "Connecting to Origin" and stays like that. The game didn't even start with Proton versions other than 6.3.
There are some slowness on loading screens, other than that the experience is pretty good.
6.19-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Origin needs ntlm_auth
package to connect which comes with Samba. I didn't have it previously and now Origin starts without any problems.
On i3wm, Origin cannot start normally unless you set a floating rule for it. I added this to fix it:
for_window [title="^Origin$"] floating enable, fullscreen disable
In single player campaign, there is a huge slowness while loading another area. In multiplayer, there is a similar slowness at the end of the matches.
There was a general FPS problem on normal Proton, so I used Glorious Eggroll. With GE the game is enjoyable.
Cannot pass the black screen.
Tried with 7.0, 6.3, 5.13 and 5.0 all have the same problem.
Also, cannot change keyboard+mouse controls while the controller is plugged-in.
FPS is pretty much unstable.
With Proton 7, the game didn't run well.
It just crashes after a short black screen.
I also tried the said tweaks here but sadly no luck.
Couldn't pass the blackscreen on native version but it runs great without issues with Proton.
Terrible sound loop issues.
I used D9VK to get true aspect ratio but it was not full screen.
Used this launch option:
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% -nointro
Crashed one time.
Without ESYNC there are frequent crashes and low textures.
Used this launch option: PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% -nointro
It works out of the box but without disabling ESYNC the textures are low resolution and the game will eventually crash at some save point.
The game ran so smoothly, almost always at 60 FPS.
Not much but there were times that FPS hit 2-5.
Froze and crashed a couple of times.
Low FPS moments were not so pleasent though.
Everything seems to work fine.
There were some FPS instability though probably the game will need some patch for that.
PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 %command% -nosplash -NoStartupMovies
Out of the box the game was not so playable. However I switched to DirectX 11 and forced FPS to 80 since v-sync made it terrible but somehow 80 was fine (my monitor is 60 Hz).
It crashed a couple of times.
The reason I had to use Proton 7 was, Proton 8 got broken after Nvidia 545 update.
Works fine.
My monitor is 144 Hz and the game randomly changes it to 60 Hz, causing stuttering, usually after teleporting to new area but sometimes it gets wild. Though I suspect the game itself, most likely not because of Proton.
Not even GloriousEggroll helped with this one.
It goes into black screen at start and then crashes.
__GL_ExtensionStringVersion=17700 %command% +set r_ignorehwgamma 1 +set r_mode -1 +set r_customheight 1080 +set r_customwidth 1920 +set cg_drawfps 0
There is also stuttering.
Though with this mouse lag and stuttering the game is not enjoyable in this state.
The game freezes at Activision logo without them. Add this launch option:
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command%
The game runs fine but it's not fun to play in this current state.
Due to mouse input being tied to FPS (which is unstable) it's hard to aim.
FPS is unstable.
Even though connectivity is excellent, it's impossible to enjoy the multiplayer because of mouse input inaccuracy.
Works just fine.
There were some momentarily freezes but they were rare.
Didn't try multiplayer.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
It has 30 FPS lock without WINED3D launch option, it has 40 FPS lock after the launch option. On WIndows the game has 85 FPS lock.
Didn't try multiplayer and I don't think I'll ever try with RCE thing is present.
Doesn't need a tweak to run but videos between chapters only have audio. Otherwise works great.
The game started in a weird shifted resolution. Had to change the resolution on this file.
~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/21980/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My\ Documents/Call\ of\ Juarez\ -\ Bound\ in\ Blood/Out/Settings/Video.scr
The game starts with black screen, can skip it with ESC.
It's almost platinum but there were some graphical issues with glaring lights and shadows. Using D9VK fixed the issue.
PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%
Game works fine out of the box but crashes time to time.
Even if it says native on Proton it just doesn't work. None of the tweaks helped. When I click play on Steam, a launcher without text opens and when I move mouse it suddenly disappears.
Native is still borked. Proton version stucks on top left as a square and not playable.
Native version still doesn't work. Under Proton, minimap doesn't show up, hence the game is not playable.
Minimap doesn't show.
While native still doesn't work, tried it with new Proton version 5.0-2 but it's still the same as before.
Still no minimap.
Finally the game works, but there are still problems.
While the game is enjoyable in this state, configuration tool is still not working. Achievements not working.
Current native version only opening in windowed mode and freezes after trying to start a game.
While native version freezes right away after reaching the main menu, on Proton there is still no minimap
Still no minimap.
Beyond borked. Doesn't even start. This applies to both native and Proton versions.
This game doesn't run as a native program for a long time. It shouldn't even listed as native.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
The game crashes at the end of campaign missions.
Everything seems to be fine, even the minimap is here. Though crashing at the end of missions is a problem and takes away all the fun.
The game can be playable but does not worth your time in current status.
ESC doesn't work in-game. Cannot return to main menu.
Cannot try to save so don't know the save function does work or not.
Even the game can run on too old devices (on Windows) FPS is unstable on Proton and downs below 20 time to time.
The game doesn't save your settings if you don't quit and re-open the game.
I tried the game with 4 different Proton versions. -On Proton 5.0 the game simply crashes right away. -On Proton 4.11 the game starts but if you try to change the resolution crashes right away. Also crashes if you try to open a campaign mission. -On Proton 4.2 the game seems to work fine. However since the ESC button doesn't work in-game and you cannot reach the menu, what's the point? -Proton 3.16 is same as 4.2.
Native version does not work and it runs poorly on any Proton version.
Mouse control is constantly stuttering.
Native version immediately crashes and does not start.
However some videos didn't work with normal Proton and had to use Glorious Eggroll.
Even though the game is heavy on resources it was pretty enjoyable with the said tinkering options.
PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr PROTON_NO_GLSL=1 %command% -dx12
Alt-Tab or changing workspaces cause the game to crash.
+com_skipIntroVideo 1 +set m_smooth 0 +com_skipKeyPressOnLoadScreens 1
The launch option is for skipping the intro, unsmoothing the mouse and auto start levels instead of pressing space. So it's not for tinkering.
The game works great and it's a pretty nice remaster, though I do not recommend it in current state due to mouse issues
You can literally lock the FPS with indefinitely moving mouse.
There is a mouse issue and it's not related to OpenGL or Vulkan. You can play without mouse using arrow keys though.
Was gonna try the DLL fix mentioned below but apparently game works without any issues now.
-skipmovies
No lag, solid 60 FPS.
The game starts with title splash and than goes into black screen where the menu apparently works but doesn't show up.
The main menu or any other UI elements don't show up. They still work if you know the order though.
The game works well but there are no UI other than minimap so it's not playable.
The game can be playable, even runs great but still no UI elements so has no meaning to play.
No main menu, no UI elements other than minimap.
After installing all DirectX9 related DLLs with protontricks, the game is working as it should be now.
Installed all the d3dx9 DLLs like the previous comment suggests. It took some time.
The game is mostly over 140 FPS (v-sync doesn't work in my case) but there are some points it drops to 30 and it's not a pleasant experience.
Launch options alone are not enough to play this game. After these steps you'll be able to run the game.
Open "Engine.ini" file under the game folder. Add <"DirectXVersion>9</DirectXVersion"> between <"InitFile"> tags (remove brackets). Save and close. (I had to write it like that because it doesn't shows between <"> here.)
Open terminal and run this to install DirectX 9 manually. "WINEPREFIX=~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/33340/pfx/ winetricks d3dx9"
After that, run this to install corefonts to get true font rendering, otherwise it'll be annoying. "WINEPREFIX=~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/33340/pfx/ winetricks corefonts"
Add this to game's lauch options. "PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%"
Add this to game's launch options.
PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%
Open terminal and run this to install DirectX 9 manually.
WINEPREFIX=~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/33340/pfx/ winetricks d3dx9
After that, run this to install corefonts to get true font rendering, otherwise it'll be annoying.
WINEPREFIX=~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/33340/pfx/ winetricks corefonts
Open "Engine.ini" file under the game folder. Add <DirectXVersion>9</DirectXVersion>
between <InitFile>
tags. Save and close.
Not sure but i think it was native version. Gameplay is fine but crashes time to time.
There were some loop issues like when you drive a car the same sound loops and doesn't feel like how it suppose to be.
I played the game around 30 hours and it crashed a lot.
I played the native version and it was pretty fine.
Some glasses were black.
Brightness slider doesn't work and brightness is not changeable.
Native crashes right away but on Proton it runs out of the box.
The game is enjoyable after some tweaking on settings. It will probably be better on future Proton releases.
There are certain FPS drops everywhere but usually it doesn't disturb the play that much.
The game crashed twice in 14 hours.
Disabling v-sync and enabling triple buffering positively impact the framerate. There is almost no different playing on low or ultra for performance-wise.
Installed dotnet with
protontricks 359320 dotnet40
Only problem for me, if there are other controllers pluged-in, the Steam Controller works on the menu but not in the game.
Generally okay.
Shadows and road lines were flickering time to time.
Somehow the game was persistent to be on top no matter which workspace I'm at.
I'm keep getting the same error on all Proton versions. The game does not start.
Error says: DirectX Error : StretchRect is Invalid call
Tried this game again after a long time, still beyond borked.
Also tried it on Windows and it doesn't even run on Windows and gives bunch of errors.
DirectX Error : StretchRect is Invalid call
is one of them. I guess this game is a lost cause.
6.5-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
You may need to remap the controller.
It's finally playable. To pass black screen (which is intro) press enter. Also somehow you may need to remap the controller when you log in again.
With normal Proton the videos and the video backgrounds don't work, instead there is a placeholder video of Proton. However everything works fine with Glorious Eggroll.
Apparently the game suffers from unstability even on Windows so these are not Proton's fault. Just be careful and act slowly while navigating on the world map. Otherwise expect a crash.
In my experience, in-game videos only worked with GE-Proton9-13. I also tried 9-11 and 9-15 but they didn't work on both of them. Kinda weird.
By the way, even launching the game can be hit or miss and you can see a crash right away after trying to launch it.
With Proton 6.3 update the game finally can played beyond the first warehouse. Though this time it sticks at Mike's Bar.
NPCs are still bouncing around, though this can be fixed with the launch options.
-GameProfile_SkipIntroMovies 1 -RenderProfile_MaxFps 300 -GFX_HemiQuality 2 -GFX_LeavesShadowRatio 1 -GFX_SunShadowRange0 14 -GFX_SunShadowRange1 30 -GFX_SunShadowRange2 160 -GFX_MaxHemiMapDistance 10000 -RenderProfile_MaxFps 144
Also don't enable Vsync and anti-alliasing, those makes the game unstable and unplayable. You can maximize the rest of the graphic options though. After adding this launch option, the game works fine and you can actually advance in the story.
Works great out of the box.
There were invisible stripes on some places, especially on waterfalls.
Uplay cannot close itself so had to stop it via Steam's button everytime.
You might want to lower some graphical settings even though it's an old game. I just lowered geometry setting from ultra to very high and it had stable FPS after that.
Surprisingly performed much better than Far Cry 3. Overall it was a nice experience out of the box.
Opening Steam overlay can cause freeze and crash.
Uplay cannot close itself so I had to close it via stop button.
Crashes right away.
Tried with different Proton versions, also some GE.
I got a blackscreen and a background music but that's all, nothing happens beyond that.
The game stuck on white screen after choosing new game on all official Proton versions, however it was perfect with Glorious Eggroll.
There are some graphical glitches with some character scenes. Using PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
launch option fixes it.
Works great besides the right-clicking issue.
Right-clicking causes the game window to lose focus, had to leave fullscreen and re-enable fullscreen to fix it.
The game runs just as fine with Proton 7 too but videos didn't work though didn't affect the game itself.
Because of the launcher the game doesn't even start. Seems like there is no possible way to run it without launcher even on Windows.
I still cannot pass the loading screen no matter what I try.
cd "${STEAM_COMPAT_INSTALL_PATH}/launcher"; %command%
The loading animation works for a moment then the game freezes. Same, with or without the launch option.
Opening video doesn't work on Proton 8 so I used GE instead.
DirectX 10&11 option is still borked.
DirectX 10&11 option is still borked. The reason I went with Glorious Eggroll is the opening video doesn't work with Proton 8.
I tried every tweak under this title but still borked.
Access violation error
Runs fine, just not on highest settings despite being an old game.
Runs poorly on high settings.
Used this launch option in order to run this game.
PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command% -width 1920 -height 1080 -nomemrestrict -norestrictions -percentvidmem 100 -availablevidmem 4096 -noprecache -novblank
No problems whatsoever, just install and play.
Though be sure everything is properly installed on the first run, there may have a problem.
The game runs pretty great. FPS was unstable for me so I had to try changing some of the settings. Disabling V-sync fixed that issue.
Some of the cutscenes were out of the sync.
Runs just fine.
Had to be manually put into fullscreen.
Runs like a charm.
Also runs just fine with 07th-Mod.
6.1-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Fixed it with PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 %command%
launch option.
FPS is between 10-30 on medium settings.
I believe the game is enjoyable now. I use graphical settings of mid-ultra mixture and it runs fine.
6.9-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Installed gamemode and added this to launch options VKD3D_CONFIG=force_static_cbv gamemoderun
All the cutscenes are out of sync, which is kinda irritating since they are huge part of the game.
Switching from game to other windows or workspaces causes the game to crash immediately.
There are still some FPS drops on certain parts but it's not as bad as before. This is my final launch option, it positively changes the FPS around 15-20.
VKD3D_CONFIG=force_static_cbv PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 gamemoderun %command%
The game does not work out of the box and crashes right away.
Also tried different Proton launch options but no luck.
IF and Compile Heart intros work. Cannot pass the movie intro, where the game apparently tries to run it but fails.
Works fine.
The game sometimes freezes momentarily.
I also tried it with Proton because of the freezing problem, but on Proton the mouse speed was ridiculously fast and it was kinda impossible to play like that.
Japanese font is missing. I tried fakejapanese
with protontricks
but didn't work.
There were some out of focus problems but nothing serious.
The game started in black screen when I tried it with 6.3, then I tried 4.2 but it crashed a couple times. So I ended up using 3.16 and it was almost perfect.
It works perfect.
I actually started this game before Proton 7. So I was using 3.16 because other versions were crashing. Also with Proton 7, Japanese font is finally visible instead of showing squares.
Screenshot with F12 causes instant crash.
Works nicely with Proton Experimental but with normal Proton the game has constant freezes everywhere, except the cutscenes were 60 FPS.
Videos don't work without Proton Experimental.
Due to subtitle issues the game is not so playable.
Subtitles are not rendering.
Needs a launch option to bypass the 2K launcher, otherwise won't run. Generally the game runs fine.
eval $(echo "%command%" | sed "s/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe'.*/pc\/Mafia II Definitive Edition.exe'/")
eval $(echo "%command%" | sed "s/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe'.*/mafiadefinitiveedition.exe'/")
Again, had to use Proton 7, since the Nvidia 545 update I cannot use Proton 8 at all. Also that launch option is required to bypass 2K launcher apparently, otherwise the game won't even start.
Runs out of the box.
Had to re-changed mouse sensitivity every time I started the game. Doesn't save the setting somehow.
Videos don't work. I also tried the Lutris script mentioned below but the game didn't even open after that. (For further information, I also tried Proton 5.0-10 since the reports say the script works with that version, however with Proton 5.0 the game doesn't even start in my system.)
Starts in windowed mode, had to manually put in fullscreen.
I managed to pass the black videos and reached the main menu but after starting a new game I couldn't pass the first in-game video, there were sound though.
Works out of the box and runs pretty smooth.
Froze a couple of times so had to force quit.
Finally almost perfect and runs better than on Windows 10.
If you switch from the game (Alt-Tab, another workspace etc.) it cannot recover and stays in black screen.
If you have two or more monitor the game stutters on Windows 10, unless you pull the plug for those extra monitors. (Yeah that was the actual response from Ubisoft Support back then). There is no such thing in Linux and it runs pretty great now. By the way all the other problems I saw is from the game itself, not Proton related.
The game works pretty much great. You must turn PhysX off though.
Sometimes the cutscenes didn't have audio so I had to restart the game to fix it. This issue resembles the one with the game's launch in 2009 with Windows 7.
(There is a problem with the website, my report accepted as borked and also empty. If you see this, please don't accept that one since it's false.)
The game runs pretty good but it needs better optimization on Linux.
Since I'm on a tiling WM, Origin opened in 6 different windows for some reason and the game couldn't started without switching workspaces.
With the hardware I use, this game can be played on ultra settings on Windows. However I played it on lowest settings for the sake of stability.
Changing the graphic settings from lowest to something above highly decreasing the FPS.
Only works fine with Proton 6.3-8 and even with that cannot play more than 5 minutes without crashing.
Audio starts crackling after a short time in a cutscene. Sync problem accompanies crackling.
Especially gets slow between cutscenes. There are also huge FPS drops during fights.
Almost everytime crashes either in a fight or during a cutscene.
It used to be able to open the launcher but not even can do that anymore.
I tried to install d3dx9 via winetricks but the game still doesn't work.
Got an error message: Mugen Souls has stopped working. Crash dump has been generated.
Also enabling D9VK makes the game starts in fullscreen but still getting the error.
It works fine besides some input problems.
There are some songs that it is not possible to press two different buttons at the same time, apprently they were laggy.
Runs like a native game.
If using tiling window manager, when you move cursor to top that causes the game leave fullscreen.
Runs like native.
If you use a tiling window manager, moving pointer to the menu (top) can cause it to leave full screen.
protontricks 602520 wmp11
If using tiling window manager, moving cursor to top causes the game leave fullscreen.
Intro and outro movies don't work. You need to install wmp11 with protontricks. Other than this, the game runs pretty much perfect.
Runs fine, better with Proton 7.
It's not possible to remap controller.
Steam overlay doesn't work.
Runs perfect.
There was an interesting visual glitch that when there was a dust cloud right in front of the car, there were people silhouettes on the screen.
The game has its own problems but works fine out of the box on Proton.
While native version has graphical problems, on Proton the games works fine.
Borked and gives this error: "D:\GMProjects\Patrician3\App\App.cpp(732) : Error in 'App::Initialize' : Installation corrupt: 2:0xffffffff"
Borked and got an error: "D:\GMProjects\Patrician3\App\App.cpp(732) : Error in 'App::Initialize' : Installation corrupt: 2:0xffffffff"
Didn't get an error like "Patrician IV - Steam Special Edition" but this one doesn't even run in my case.
I actually tried native first but some buttons didn't work and couldn't play it. With Proton it runs perfect.
Add "-changedir" to launch options to be able to run the game. Also disabling 3D acceleration will give 60 FPS and make it pretty smooth. Only down part is, when you are on plant pick screen, FPS will be around 10-15, not a big problem I think.
After the first launch (might take a couple more), there will be a new exe file under ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/3590/pfx/drive_c/ProgramData/PopCap Games/PlantsVsZombies/
. Replace the exe file on your installation folder with this one and there will be no slowing down on plant picking screen.
I don't know who found about this tweak but it's a great find.
Doesn't need to add "-changedir" anymore but still has slowness issue on plant picking screen.
Runs perfect. Also, if you want it to scale to your screen resolution, just disable full-screen from "Configuration Utility".
The game also works with Proton 5.0-10 but it runs slow that way. It crashes with other Proton versions, especially after starting a new game. There is a new error with Proton 8.0 which is "Translation files not found" and then it crashes.
Works great out of the box but the video files inside the game don't work out of the box. However using GE-Proton fixes the issue.
Runs out of the box and works perfect.
HUD mirrors have horizontal strips on them.
Runs great out of the box.
Caused the PC to froze to death, had to shut down by holding the power button. Happened once.
Works just fine out of the box.
Fullscreen option cannot be changed to other than 800x600 but windowed mode works without any problem.
Works great out of the box.
Wish the native version would be installed via Steam too.
In graphical terms, the game runs perfectly without any tweak. However sound doesn't work.
It works fine unless you want to play learning campaign.
Trying to launch learning campaign causes freezing.
The game works great out of the box but apparently EAC is still a problem.
I get "Authentication timed out" error in less than a minute and get kicked out.
Actually when I checked the game's page here recently, I was kinda hopeful after all those positive reviews however the game is still problematic in my regards.
Runs out of the box nicely.
Opening Steam overlay or taking a screenshot took a long time.
While the game runs great with Proton, it still a bug fest. So you should also install SRP mod in order to play without game breaking bugs.
Rainy weather can cause some flashings.
Works out of the box like a native game.
It's rare but the game can crash randomly.
Platinum as a single player game, achievements works, controller works, runs perfect. However crashes right away when you enter a multiplayer game.
Though it's not Linux related issue but still wanted to share. For the game being stuck on top left corner and cannot go fullscreen correctly, you can do this (directly from SanctuaryRPG Wiki):
Open gamefolder\terminal\720p\terminal.png in paint (or similar) and resize.
For 1080p resize to 150%.
It works fine after some in game settings fix.
Mouse cursor doesn't go to right part of screen.
Couldn't connect to anyone for co-op, there were only 2 people at the moment so couldn't try more.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
And it worked fine.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Only in multiplayer but there were some glitches on the trees time to time.
Also in multiplayer, the game crashed after playing 5 levels.
It's native and works pretty good.
Even though you select fullscreen on the settings, it doesn't start as fullscreen. You must manually set it with a shortcut (like Super+F).
Works just fine out of the box.
Had to put it into fullscreen manually every time.
protontricks 758330 -q dotnet462 xact xact_x64
Be sure everything is correctly installed, if something is missing the game does not start.
Just like a native game.
When you first start the game, it will stutter until the shader cache is complete, shouldn't be more than a few minutes. After than, it's perfect.
Switching to different workspace (or Alt-Tab) makes the the game unplayable.
Works with this launch option.
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libopenal.so.1 %command%
Pretty much borked. Tweaks also did not help. The game tries to start but immediately crashes.
Used custom dxvk.conf file. Create an empty file named dxvk.conf on /home directory. Add
d3d9.tearFree = True
d3d9.dpiAware = True
and save the file.
Add
DXVK_CONFIG_FILE=/home/$USER/dxvk.conf %command%
to launch options. This will prevent screen tearing. After starting the game, wait for it to fill shader cache. It will take around 5-10 seconds.
Works out of the box and works almost perfect.
There were some FPS drops until shader caches are done, especially in bullet cams.
Runs great out of the box.
Some painting had a weird fracture.
There were a couple of crashes with D3D11 error.
And it was a smoother experience comparing to Sniper Elite 3.
Tried every Proton version including GE but no luck.
Works without any tweaks. You may want to lower graphical settings if you want to get higher FPS. Third person view will suffer even on lowest settings though.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command%
Rare but selected units' highlight can be broken.
RTS view is fine but the game stutters in third person view.
Also disabling vsync greatly improved the performance.
FPS is unstable with Proton 7. However that wasn't a problem with GE.
Just like the other games of the trilogy, it works great. Though the perfomance is better with GE.
Game does not start as fullscreen, had to manually put it in every time.
Main game doesn't have this fullscreen problem but this one has.
Does not work with a Proton version over 4.11. FPS is unstable and too low to enjoy the game.
Everything is slow, from render to animations.
Even if you play on the lowest settings possible, third-person view will still suffer from slowness.
Crashing after a short time.
Tried every Proton version including GE, also tried a couple launch options but still crashing at the same time. It is possible to skip intros and reach the menu but that's it.
Runs perfect out of the box but it's not playable due to constant freezing.
Cannot play more than 10 minutes in one session without freezing. Had to use SIGKILL every time to exit the game.
Tried every Proton version, including Experimental and a couple of Glorious Eggroll versions. The longest session without freezing was with Experimental, ~15 minutes. Others were way worse.
Previously I tried this game on Proton 6 but it had game-breaking problems. With Proton 7 the game runs perfect now.
Performance is worse than Windows version like Verdun but it'll be fine when you lower the graphical settings.
Probably online DRM problem
Launcher is the problem. It's trying to connect online and probably doesn't accept Linux. Also won't work without starting via launcher.
Can be fixed with a launch option.
Crashed twice in 10 hours.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=90 %command%
Had to use Proton 7 because since Nvidia 545 driver update, I cannot use Proton 8 at all.
The game works great until the end. The video at the ending does not work so you basically cannot finish the game.
Runs pretty much perfect.
It just fails to install UE prerequisites so asked every time I ran the game. Didn't notice any effect of it though.
Playing the native version and so far so good without any workaround.
Install and play.
I played the game more than 50 hours and the game has crashed like 7-8 times. Though Windows has the same problem because of the game's bad CPU usage (only 2 cores).
Had to manually put into fullscreen every time.
I played on native, however standard native didn't work. But it worked fine with "Steam Linux Runtime 1.0 (scout)".
Graphics didn't render correctly with Proton 7.0 The game crashed every time after selecting new game from the menu with Proton 6.3 --- same with Proton 5.13 Finally it worked fine with Proton 5.0
Works fine out of the box.
If you disable next generation content it will be fine.
Runs pretty much perfect.
If you Alt-Tab or switch workspaces and return to game, it might get flashy textures.
Launcher doesn't work without this launch option: "LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libfreetype.so.6 %command%". Otherwise it's perfect.
Still borked
Both native and proton versions are instantly crashing.
Tropico 1 works out of the box great but for Tropico 2 you must edit an ini file mentioned below.
Tropico 2 crashes when you try to start a map. To fix it, open Tropico2.ini file, change SoftwareDevice=0
into SoftwareDevice=1
and save.
If you run the game with Proton 4.11 it runs perfect.
Water does not render on Proton 5.0.
It was working fine until Proton 5 and now water does not render. To prevent this, simply force the game to run with Proton 4.11 and it will be fine again.
It was working fine on my previous system but it just doesn't even start anymore on a freshly installed system.
Proton versions don't matter, not even GE.
The problem is Kalypso itself. Absolute Power used to be a standalone DLC and can be played without installing Tropico 3. Now they changed it after many years and it's now a mindless DLC (even though it still has a different ID number) so that's why it doesn't even start. In order to play it, you should also install Tropico 3.
7.1-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
The game has partial controller support but didn't detect it at all.
Everything works great, even the cutscenes.
Leaves fullscreen after every match.
Performance is worse than Windows version but it'll be fine when you lower the graphical settings.
Works pretty much perfect.
I tried native first but it didn't pass the black screen. However it was fine with Proton.
However, opening videos didn't work with Proton 7. Gameplay-wise it's not really necessary.
Still borked.
Though I'm starting to believe this is not a Wine/Proton issue since the many reviews on Steam say the game is borked on Windows 10 too.
Works out of the box.
Couldn't connect to any online game.
Everything is perfect, though I had to use Glorious Eggroll in order to get in-game videos to work.
Only works fine with Proton 3.16
On newer Proton versions everything renders as white rectangulars.

The program itself seems to work fine but since the Wacom tablet didn't detected it's not usable in this current state.
Even though Wacom Tablet works with other programs on my system, sadly OpenCanvas through Proton didn't detect it.
Also it didn't work with newer Proton versions, but it does look fine with Proton 4.11.
