Alt-Tab doesn't function; challenging to play
Game freezes on Alt-Tab
It's probably possible to push past that issue, but to me at least I just can't be bothered.

Worked out of the box. Single player, multiplayer, upscaling (FSR2 in my case) and ray tracing worked flawlessly. Without checking benchmarks, performance seemed 1:1 with Windows.

Alt-Tab completly freeze the game
Be careful with the save system, progress is easily lost due to crash.

When Alt+Tabbing from the game, it freezes, but the sound continues to play
The character (Colt/Julianna) always looks at their legs when using Gamescope
That's typical to DEATHLOOP - Void Engine crashes

Disabled network connection at the OS level improved performance
Incorrect reflection rendering (non-raytraced)
Reduced perfomance when my network connection was enabled.

When changing proton versions multiple times, Denuvo Anti-Tamper eventually locks legitimate owners out.
Denuvo sucks
Don't use Ultra textures, it will cause the VRAM leak

Game crashes often when tabbing out of fullscreen or onto another monitor.
DualSense over Bluetooth is not detected at all unless using Steam Input, which breaks the adaptive trigger functionality. Haptics did not work at all, unsure if the haptics branch of GEProton would help here.
Extreme FPS drop after loading in second map due to the game not freeing VRAM.
Crashes on ALT-TAB, crashes when loading in another map.
VRAM is not freed after each map as described above. This invariably leads to a crash while loading maps, and in any case degrades performance from 100+ FPS to sub 30 FPS. Unplayable unless you restart the game after each map load.
Dual boot Windows unless you can put up with restarting the game between every map.

Game used to work with Proton 8.0-5. No longer does. tried 9.0-2, Experimental, GE 9-11
It used to run pretty well with medium resolution withough crashes - now Void Eng Error 0xC0000005 Access Violation

Great Arkane game with lackluster main characters
Game freezes (crashes) when minimizing it. ONLY minimize the game if you are in the game's main menu. Otherwise by how the game saves, youll lose everything youve done in a map if you havent left it.
Only lag happened because the game doesnt check for regions and the host is the main host, so youll end up having connection problems if you invade other people (but will never have any problem playing as the main guy).
Fun game apart from the issues mentioned. Online can be bad in any platform so you better invade when people from your region are awake and playing. Bit disappointed with both main characters, but the rest of the game is pure Arkane goodness.

runs perfectly except for crashing when losing focus (alt+tab, or even just pressing the windows key in GNOME)
game freezes permanently whenever it loses focus

Some objects sometimes have a white outline. It's easy to ignore.
Crashed two or three times in the ~40 hours playthrough
The game is slow to start up. Spends several minutes on the rotating stream logo. Once it's past this stage, runs with no significant issues.

Amazing game and love the story about it. Works perfect on ubuntu 24.04
There is a video recording to showcase and give an idea how it works here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6PvGenL3HI

I needed to change the resolution in Lutris to be able to start a game, otherwise it froze right after starting. After I adjusted in Lutris for a smaller resolution it started in full screen just fine.
Alt-tab freezes the game.
the - windowed option did not work for me, but for others it might start in full screen without issues, dunno

Just make sure to never switch windows while playing
I mean i could, but it would freeze them game, forcing me to kill the process and loose all my current progress
Alt-Tab or any other way of switching to a window (like when responding to a Discord Message) will completly freeze your game. It doesnt close, but it also wont react to anything, not even the instruction to exit. So as long as you only switch windows, lock your screen, etc. while in the main menu, the game plays just fine.

occasionnally drop to 30 FPS, otherwise solid 60 FPS
Just use the right (older) version of proton.

game crashes when alt+tab is pressed. Making the game unplayable for me
frame stutter
With out alt+tab working, this game is pretty much unplayable unless you are playing on a dedicated machine for gaming with nothing else running.

Looking at certain things, the game would suddenly go down from 80 FPS to 30 FPS. Very clearly based on what I am looking at.
If you cap the game at a low FPS, it should be fine. Felt very upsetting running at 30FPS on an RTX 3080.

Not working

Not optimized

Lights and other items flash or glitch occasionally, even in the menus.
Needed to set the game to Borderless. Alt-Tabbing out when in fullscreen causes a total hang. Going Windowed made the game very slow.
Sometimes the game will slow to a crawl when entering a new area. maybe 1FPS , even on Very Low settings. This was more noticeable when I tried some of the command line tweaks. Just using the older Proton version seemed to iron out most of the issues, but the game is still a glitchy mess sometimes, especially if you alt-tab out.
The game will completely crash on any Proton version based on 8. Only 7.0.x worked at all. The game will start up in 8, but will try to start the "running feet" animation after the initial splash screen and will hang there.
Changing settings while the game is running will sometimes result in a gradual degradation in performance, requiring a quit/restart.
I tried this with ALL the command line settings given in other recommendations, and I looked up the DXVK / PROTON prefixes. Nothing helps. going -dx11 seemed to help for a little while, but the lights flashing got really bad and the crashing more frequent for me.
The game is, largely playable, so long as you are very very patient. You need to WAIT for the game to load, ESPECIALLY if you have Vulkan set to Async, as it'll start loading the shaders while the game's loading, which makes everything look like it's crashed for up to ten minutes.

Was not able to get the game running. Steam marks the game as running, but no window appears.

Tried most of the tweaks listed on ProtonDB, but the result never changed.

Game would crash if alt-tab.
Quite a lot of slowdowns. Performance is poor.
Game crashes everytime you change district. I could not find people with similar issues online.
Besides using Experimental, I tried a few things to make it better, but nothing seems to work well.

I played with Juliana and everything went really well

After some time in an area, there is a stutter every few sefonds. Seems to be due to VRAM overflow (game settings report about 7GiB used, and mongo 8.2G). Other works fine with default settings.
Seems to crash after every second zone loaded after the first one. Hopefully, there is an autosave just before this.

Crashes on loading, sometimes gets stuck on server connection. Second one gets "fixed" by starting the game offline

Game starts at 144 fps then after a map change, goes down to 40 fps. VRAM fills up instantly when playing the game. Have tried low/medium settings and still happens with FSR 2 Performance mode and ray tracing turned off.
The game runs and looks well when playing the first map. Once you finish a map and return back to the menus and start a new map, game becomes unplayable. CPU goes up to 99% and VRAM is using up the full 16 GB and framerate drops to 30-40 fps when 144 before.
I have tried various RADV and VKD3D tweaks but the results are the same. If you really want to play this on Linux, you will have to quit the game and restart it after each map. If you are sick of the performance and are dual booting, you may have to play on Windows.
Performance should not be this bad with a Ryzen 5800x, Radeon 6900XT, and 32 GB of RAM.

I tried a lot of different Proton-Versions from the 7 and 8 branch, including "experimental".
FPS rate dropped <30, sometimes <10.
While the Void-Engine was running fine on my laptop for other "Arkane Lyon Studios" titles like "Prey", or "Dishonored 2", "Deathloop" was unplayable, no matter what settings I chose in the graphics settings. Even with everything on "Low" and "Performance" the game would rarely go over 40FPS, and after a while drops down to ~10FPS.
Mouse stuck in the middle of the screen in regular fullscreen mode. Switch to borderless fullscreen to fix.

Le son ne fonctionne pas avec Proton 8.0-3.

Works so well I occasionally forget I'm playing it on Linux
Only "non-working" thing found is quite rarely occuring connection issue to server when returning to base which can be fixed by restarting the game. Not sure if caused by Proton or just poor connection, but played day does not go waste, so only a minor annoyance if it hits.

Does not get past all initial loading screens on nVidia due some driver crash/issue
However, my other PC's Radeon 6800XT with default kernel driver works flawlessly with DEATHLOOP, so looks like nVidia only problem.

protonge 8-9 would not start even in desktop mode just a blank screen. Was able to boot game from current default proton from desktop. Launched from from steam os the 2nd time to test. All frame limiter options off in steam os. Limited framerate to 50fps 1152:720 resolution 16:10 aspect ratio within the game, all settings on low except overall texture quality on medium and antialiasing on taa very high quality. I disabled all upscaling and disabled fsr2. Game ran consistently 50 fps and looked great! Game did take long to boot.
With the recent update the game doesn't appear to work anymore, regardless of tinkering.

Runs great until it fills up VRAM and becomes unplayable, doesn't even free assets used on the previous map so will eventually break
VKD3D_CONFIG=pipeline_library_app_cache gamescope -H 1440 -r 165 -f -- %command%
Tried limiting VRAM in dxvk.conf
Crashes on alt-tab, unless you gamescope
Game does not free up VRAM, you will eventually run out and get freezes, unless you can fit the entire game in VRAM
Things that have increased the playable time until VRAM exhaustion:
- VKD3D_CONFIG=pipeline_library_app_cache
- Nvidia driver 535 + newer Proton that uses VK_EXT_memory_priority/VK_EXT_pageable_device_memory
