Only played private matches, but they worked perfectly.
Opening movie doesn't play without GE-Proton. Other than that, it works great.
El juego funciona perfectamente bien. Usé un mando de Xbox One S y no tuve que hacer nada para que funcionase.
gamemoderun %command%
just works
also works
This game runs like on windows, maybe even better
Guilty Gear REV2 works just as fine as it does on windows you'll just have to get around some issues with controllers and graf errors
Xbox controller wont have triggers binded works best with DS4
Game will have some FPS drop, random red bar during gameplay from what ive seen one of Sol's intros is bugged with a graf error
tested online play with a windows player and linux player works just fine hosting works without issue
works just fine theres no lag nor input issues
When I first played this on Steam Deck, I'd get the color bar screen during loading screens - however, they're gone now and it works perfectly.
Runs and looks great on Linux, Sol approves!
Tested with both: Xbox One Controller and Keyboard - Tested local and on-line matches. - Display server: Wayland. - Version of Proton: 8.0-2
multiplayer works with no problem
runs like a native game.
Game works perfectly
Wi-Fi is generally not recommended for fighting games. Please use a wired connection when on netplay.
Runs great and everything works
Worked well. Didn't notice any issues
I don't know why Valve verified -SIGN- but not REV 2 considering they are both the exact same under the hood and both work perfectly out of the box
Literally all i did on user end is install game through Steam and then boot it, works perfectly fine
Switch to rollback netcode like i did on Windows machine through changing game files, still run flawlessly out of the box
Rollback rocks!
If you crash when you hit "REMATCH" or the burst effect not showing that is not a linux bug, the rollback beta is buggy atm
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 gamemoderun %command%
Game freezes when attempting to change from fullscreen to windowed
Only with newer Proton/Proton-GE versions
Needed to change Proton version to a older one. Proton 6.3-8 gave me the best results so far.
In-game config is:
Image Quality Settings=Quality Priority, V-Sync=Off, Anti-alias=FXAA, Post-Effect=on, Dynamic Lighting=on
Intro movie plays with some frame drops.
Maybe changing proton version is not needed with high-end pcs, mine is pretty low/mid.
Fullscreen issue mentioned before was experienced on awesome wm and lxqt with openbox.
There were a few hoops you have to jump through in order to get the game working properly. But it's worth it because this game is great.
I think the edges look a bit more choppy than the PC counter part. But that could be my memory being faulty.
The controller detection was odd. The game won't detect any inputs at all at first, including keyboard inputs. I had to switch window focus using my controller and then switch back to the game in order to gain control. I had a similar issue with DNF, another Arcsys Unreal Engine game.
Minor slowdowns are notable in the PC version as well. The game runs on one single core, I think. The best way to get around it is to reduce all in-game graphical settings to the minimum.
The multiplayer aspect of it is identical to the PC port. The same bugs that were present there are still present here. Some matchmaking and some connections are impossible due to it, but that has nothing to do with linux or proton. Maybe the rollback update can address it.
Using the experimental proton version of the game is good enough to launch it and start playing if youre are using your keyboard. However, if you plan to use a controller you may have to jump through some hoops in order to get the mapping correct. You will have to set up your own controller through steam's controller functions and set up how XRD decides to read your controller. Generic controller worked for me, both the Xbox one and the Playstaion one gave me some issues on my Brook board.
Yet another issue is that you will HAVE TO USE Proton-GE due to poor input mapping on regular Proton builds if you're using a HITBOX. If you are using a HITBOX without Proton-GE, SOCD inputs will be butchered regardless of any settings you have set on your stick. For example: Left + Right = Right and Up + Down = Neutral. Any quick inputs will also not be read.
If you are using a hitbox, head over to: https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/ And follow the instructions to set it up. This SOCD input issue has been around since Proton 5.13 when it was fixed... and then reverted to the old, incorrect method. Any fighting game that can be ran on 5.13 would have proper SODC inputs, but XRD cannot run on that version of Proton, the game would start past the start up, initial company logos.
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/5527 Here is the open issue on the topic on Proton github itself. The developers claim that it will be included again in patch 7.10 which is aound the corner. As of the writing of this review, the current version of proton is 7.0-4, not including any experimental builds.
Installs and runs fine, doesn't seem to like tiling wms
gamemoderun %command%
bspwm won't let me enter fullscreen with it for whatever reason, and it's display is unusable as it is
Game slows down for a few seconds when it comes back from minimized to raised. Then after a few seconds FPS come to normal and everything plays well. Same happens in GG Strive. It's not a significant problem.
Used Proton 7.0-3 flatpak community build.
Runs perfectly OOTB.
Didn't notice any issues when playing offline, couldn't find a match to test online.
despite "unsupported" rating it works fine on deck
loading screens don't show properly but everything still works
I had no difficulty with anything so far. Game looks and plays flawlessly. Perfect 60fps.
The few characters I know well, felt right at home with these controls.
Doesn't launch
Many videos are not displayed, instead briefly popping up the "missing video" color test.
Multiplayer runs just as well (acceptable) as on Windows. Still uses delay-based netcode.
Opening video/cutscene not playing properly. Not sure if this also affects the arcade and story mode.
The game runs pretty well out of the box, but with a few minor issues that wont stop someone from enjoying the game.
6.14-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Minor audio crackling on places like the main menu and character select screen. Those seem to be the only places noticeable though.
In pretty rare circumstances, you will see vertex explosions. In about 10 hours of play though i only saw them once or twice.
If you are running a minimal install make sure you have the lib32-nvidia-utils package installed, If you don't the game won't start.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% fixes minor graphic bugs
The game runs well until you start loading into a match. It completely freezes and apps start closing in the background
Works out of the box, 1080p60
Played with Proton 6.3-3 and DXVK, didn't have any issues with graphics or sound. Played until the end of the tutorial.
- Tested with a Steam Controller
- Turned off vsync for better performance
Screen flickering on certain character matchups (major), missing scene transition FX (minor)
Fullscreen on my KDE machine would render other elements occasionally. Pressing F11 twice on reboot works as a quick fix.
The game would occasionally lock up on my machine when winning or losing a round when messages appeared. Running with PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 resolved this issue.
No signal screens are annoying after a couple times. They only last a few seconds but it certainly shows this is not a native experience.
Proton Experimental with above launch flag
No SIgnal screens when prerendered footage should play or transition to a new menu
I'm very picky but Linux players shouldn't have to settle for an imperfect experience.
I used proton 5.21-GE-1 with launch options:
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 gamemoderun %command%
Other proton version worked as well but they either had artifacts in some stages or worse performance overall.
The perfomance is worse than the windows version. You need to put it in perfomance option and disable post prossecing, vsync and lighting.
There are some graphical glitches with some character scenes. Using PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
launch option fixes it.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 gamemoderun %command%
Artifacts fixed with PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1
5.13-2 does not work at all for me. The intro logo's and movie don't play and the game crashes before it reaches a point where I can't skip to the main screen.
Short aside. For minimum input lag go to Settings→Display Settings and set the following.
Image Quality Settings→Processing Priority V-Sync→Off Anti-Alias→FXAA Post-Effect→Off
The rest are up to your discretion as they don't affect input lag.
Out of the box the whole screen glitch for a few seconds, not a big problem but it can be annoying. Adding PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% in the lauch options fix this problem.
Played through the whole of Episode mode twice with my custom built fightstick and everything was smooth and wonderful.
Occasional cracking in sound during cutscenes and once on the title screen.
Some missing textures out of the box, but this can be resolved by using PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% in the launch options.
Intro animation did not play (too powerful)
Easy to setup and ran better than it did when I was on Windows.
IDK how to explain it but certain characters cause a large texture break that overwrites the background. For example, after doing Jam's Choukyaku Hou'oushou, she would constantly have it. Another example is with Sol's intro, after he moves his weapon.
Framerate fluctuates between 56 and 60 FPS in-battle. It's a lot better than on Windows considering it would stay at like 30 FPS, though that might have been when I had 8GB RAM
yes it runs well no problem aslong as you learn what stages to stay away from you are good.
its stage specific but in same stages where a character jump or do attack the hole screen gliches out and then go back to normal it can be seen during local CPU play, but really shows in online play. its not super bad its more annoying than anything and it distract you from the game.
its a LINUX problem i use a brrok PS3/PS4 mixbox (arcade stick) and it dont reads all the inputs as it should like if im holding down back (1) and then go into back (4) it dont read it so i just stand there. same for jumping and so on like up forward (7). i had this problem on other Linux distrobutions too.
not more than the graphical one i wrote about.
i dont think so but im never to sure for its made by bandi
Works great out of the box. Had some framerate when i tried it on a lower end pc
Sometimes had to alt-tab before the controller works
Good overall. Minor issues that only come up in certain scenarios.
Specifically in training mode, after resetting, and quickly doing a different action, background textures would flicker off and on briefly. Minor issue overall though since it doesn't seem to happen in any other mode.
