occassional crackle
just works
The game runs and plays well, there's nothing to break in such an old game
Works well out the box
Good game

Crashed randomly a few times in the span of 7 hours.
Great game

Bottom half of screen was heavily artifacted upon initial install.
Launched fine and even started a new game successfully, but bottom half of screen had major artifacting. Tried a few fixes to no effect including frame rate launch option, then realized that the resolution was only 1080p. Changed it to native 1440p and artifacting disappeared entirely. Ran perfectly, no crashes or save corruption.
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=72 %command%
Some crashes that I think are game-state-dependent as sometimes I had multiple in an hour, sometimes none for hours. Remember to save frequently !

Works fine
Game runs slower in places than expected, but this is for sure down to the game and nothing to do with Linux. Certain places in the game tank FPS, for the most part it runs at 60fps. I'm using medium/high settings with balanced DLSS at 1440p.
If you are running Gnome with autohide top bar extension, be sure to disable the setting that shows the top bar in fullscreen, else it will pop up when looking up.
No crashes, very playable. The game just needs optimisations quite badly.

Installed the Zone Reclamation Patch and applied several tweaks from the management tool, also fixed shadows with the command r2_sun_near 1 pasted into the game's console (accessed with ~)
None of this is essential, you can just disable Sun Shadows and play with an entirely vanilla game, but the ZRP provides the best experience for vanilla STALKER gameplay.
Additionally you can hex edit xrGame.dll to modify the FOV if you are bothered by the distortion of the lens in widescreen mode. A guide is present at https://www.reddit.com/r/stalker/comments/15ii8fe/tutorial_how_to_manually_change_fov_soc_cs_cop/
Minor shadow bugs fixed with a command

Hold crouching activated in game
As the user Scrubby said "enabling UMU for steam runtime was required in Heroic to get the GOG version to launch." after that the game launch and work fine (If it say you don't have the "fsgame.ltx" file, try to find it on internet like me)

DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command%

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xrRender_R2.dll" PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 DXVK_FRAME_RATE=1 %command%
The default file "user.ltx" is corrupted by default and contains duplicate entries, the second block of text must be manually deleted for the game to launch.
Additionally, enabling UMU for steam runtime was required in Heroic to get the GOG version to launch.
The shadows are broken on wide and ultrawide displays by default. While ingame open console with "~" and type "r2_sun_near 1" to fix it. Addtionally, while not a bug the headbobbing can be nauseating for some, open console again and type "cam_inert 0.01" to reduce it, or change to a value of 0.00 to disable it.
When gamescope is enabled the cursor stops being detected entirely.
The GOG version of the game runs fine once all is said and done, however it took me a few hours to get this actually functional. Maxed out settings at constant 60 fps with no further issues that I've seen.
Tried every command listed on ProtonDb at the moment of installation: game silently exit or crash

It just worked, without any issues
The same as the title. It had no issues whatsoever.

Works fine once you add the launch options. Didn't launch without them when I tried it.

Had to edit "steamapps/common/STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl/appdata/user.ltx" to disable fullscreen.
See other note.

It runs better than windows
no problems, unlike the latter stalker games

Works out of the box
The game worked out of the box, played with ZRP installed. I couldn't get other mods to work though, the game would crash on boot whenever I tried booting with one. Could be the mod, could be proton, I can't say, but I remember being able to play with mods without issues back in the 3.16-9 days.
Runs perfectly

Works great, load times are surely faster than on windows

Works Perfectly
better than on windows, 0 crashes!

Don't mind the FPS limit. My machine is not really capable of gaming since it currently has only integrated graphics.

need to roll back proton

The game works pretty good out of the box. I don't remember why I switched to proton GE. Keep in mind that there are some in game bugs that can crash whole game, for example: Trying to eat food from looted enemies eq or trying to peek when you are in lower crouch.

Fix to allow playing the game post 6 June 2023 update that prevented the game from loading with the error "Pixel Shaders V1.1 required"

No clue how this game works better on Linux than Windows. It barely works on Windows at all, but on Linux there's not a crash to be seen. It can only be the vodka powered magics of eastern Europe.
Runs really well, I would say that runs better in Linux than Windows.
Played all through the campaign without any problems.

For now, you can install the fix manually by downloading and installing a development DXVK build from the project's GitHub page here. Download the artifact, which should be a ZIP archive containing directories x32 and x64. Extract all files inside the x32 directory in the game's installation directory under bin; after you have done this, the directory should contain the existing game executable XR_3DA.exe as well as files such as d3d9.dll and dxgi.dll. Start the game and you should now be able to play the game with mods without frequent crashing. It helped me a lot to play stalker with the mod (Thank you)
Runs shockingly well, despite the game being held together with duct tape
sometimes enemy shadows are visable through walls. saw this once while fighting bandits during the quest wolf gives you. and then never again upon repeat visits.
the "last save" function sometimes loads the totally wrong save. might have nothing to do with proton. mildly inconvinent at worst
rarely, loading new maps will cause a crash. even more uncommon, opening containers can crash the game.
Works perfect with Manjaro and GeForce RTX 3050 Mobile

Sometimes it was laggy in places.
Basically playable and no problem to play
Runs well, fullscreen is kinda wonky but its as expected
