Works fine OOTB
I played without the Next Generation Content, but there are still some minor graphical glitches in some missions, like a few textures flickering. But I finished the campaign without any major problems, the game didn't crash and the performance was great

it only shows KB/M prompts
Go to Options -> Control -> Control Configuration
Delete all key bindings one by one using "backspace" and bind only the gamepad buttons.
To elaborate:
- Highlight "Jump", press backspace 3 times (to delete Space/R Mouse/A Button), press enter and then press the controller button that was assigned to that action (in this case, the A Button).
- Repeat for each binding (except Up/Down/Left/Right/Walk/Sneak, that's already mapped to the left thumbstick axes by default).
This way you get messages like "press A Button to Jump" instead of "press SPACE to Jump".
You can check out the default gamepad controls here: https://tombraiders.net/stella/walks/controls/TR7controls.html

In handheld mode I always run the deck at 40Hz/40fps to gain some more playtime. But nothing dedicated to this particular game
With "Next gen content" enable there where rendering issues on some models. Most noticeable in cut scenes where Laras Hair goes nuts an had white flicker. Some enemies had the same flicker on their trousers. Without "Next gen content" none of there are there.
On Steack Deck you may want to disable "Next Gen content" due to rendering issues. (Does not happen on Desktop Linux /w nvidia driver. Probably a Mesa or amdgpu bug)

Flickering on some of the waterfalls in the Ghana level. Incorrect rendering of transparency effects on some parts of the Kazakhstan level. Most ropes don’t render correctly. They have texture issues and sometimes don’t fully connect to geometry/models Sometimes shadows would flicker randomly.
Only one crash in my playthrough.
Other than minor texture/graphical bugs, a very playable game.
It runs perfectly out of the box, but controller only got recognized on proton-ge and experimental
Runs Perfectly with "next gen graphics" but the controller only worked on proton ge-7-37 (the ge I tried) and experimental not on 7.0-6

Runs better than Windows. Next-Gen Content makes some textures flicker, like on Windows, but does not break the game like Windows do.
Next-Gen Content can be enabled and does not break the game on latter stages, like Windows do.
Runs like a charm.
Graphical artifacting in cutscenes, disabled next gen graphics and it was no longer seen.
Zero problems running this
Game needs to be played without "next gen content".
If you want to use subtitles and 16:9 mode, you need to enable it everytime you start the game.
Flickering textures can be resolved by switching off the "next gen graphics"
switching off the "next gem grphics" solves the texture flicker
Works great on the steam deck. The steam version needs to run without "next gen graphics" to solve the texture flickering. If you have the GOG version, use Proton 7.0 to get rid of the flickering, even with "next gen graphics" switched on ...
Cool story, graphic and gameplay ideas. Of course, since it's a 16 yo game, the gameplay is sometimes frustratingly clunky.
Works perfectly fine with next gen graphics out of the box.
Works (Next Gen too)
Game has no window mode.
Played with Proton 6.3-8.

Ran well out of the box. No issues w/Next Gen.
Initially ran using launch option PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 as recommended in other posts, but it was ultimately not necessary for me.
Game gains significant FPS boost when run with Gallium Nine on older AMD GPUs.
After initial launch run protontricks (gui recommended), choose present WINEPREFIX, IGNORE 64-bit warning, and install galliumnine package via "Install a Windows DLL or component" menu.
Remember to remove any WINED3D and DXVK launch parameters.
The game doesn't start and just shows a window with the text: "Failed to find Steam".
Apart from problems with 2 monitors it runs perfectly.
The game refuses to start on my main monitor despite changing the display in the setup. Turning off the second monitor before playing fixes the issue.
Finished game with some issues
Some infrequent flashing objects plus things like ziplines are misaligned
Game is a bit buggy. Expect enemies walking in place and general glitchyness. This does not seem to be wine related
Turning off next gen mode solves every problem. Stick with it and you'll have a perfect out of box experience.
Sometimes, it stutters for a bit but not a deal breaking.
I used Proton 6.3-6. It performed better than 5.13-6.
Works perfectly fine out of the box.
Game crashes when setting resolutions above 1080p using in-game options. Initial setup dialog however allows you to set all resolutions and game works with what you set.
Running game with PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% is recommended
Works great with the latest Proton. No glitches. Playing in 4K all settings maxed with NexGen enabled! Sweet!
Used D3D switch. Started game, went to options once inside the world, Enabled Next Gen and POW! 5 years newer! Everything works on PopOS! No glitches or stutters and sound is perfect.
Perfect on PopOS. Sound is smooth. Added the wine switch and disabled Nextgen. Gonna marathon TR starting with this one.
Works out of the box!
If Nextgen Graphics is enabled
It is necessary to turn off the gamepad in the steam settings, because the "Settings for the PC" are used
When starting a new chapter from the main menu, the game crashes if nextgen graphics is enabled
Enabling Next Generation Content causes ropes to glitch out
Enabling Next Generation Content can cause the fps to drop heavily in some areas.
Enabling Next Generation Content can cause the game to crash when loading a new level
Occasional flicker of the character shadows.
Disable "Next Generation Content" in the graphics settings (to eliminate stutter)
Works fine out of the box.
If you disable next generation content it will be fine.
Out of the Box
Disabled Next Gen Content and parameter used PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%

Played with Proton 5.0-7 and command params PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Works great, occasional stutter aside.
Occasional freeze/drop in frames.
The game only starts with PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%. The sound is borked. The rest of the game is all right.
The sound is borked. The rest of the game is all right.
I played through this game with no problems aside from a couple grapical glitches. no tweaks needed
a couple of grapical glitches, mostly some ropes looking wrong and a couple textures shimmering using d9vk. I played with next gen content on, maybe it's fine without it

Runs smoothly and looks great, though next gen content should be turned off.
Missing and glitchy texture when next-gen content is enabled.
