If you want things like higher framerates check out some of the fixes listed on the pcgamingwiki page for this game.
Really good on deck. Settings can be changed to mostly high and maintains 30fps no upscaling.
Works Perfectly with proton but the native version works well but not on dual monitor setups because it doesn't let you just have the game on one screen even when the resolution is set properly. It tries to stretch it across both so unusable.
gamescope -w 2560 -h 1440 -f %command%
Originally yes but when I used the launch option to utilize gamescope this fixes my original issue.
If you have two monitors and you launch game stock you will have issues. It will try to stretch the game window across both monitors. Using gamescope fixes this and allows me to play the game native, which is nice because it is a good native version.
Must go into the settings and enable the Xbox 360 controller instead of mouse and keyboard
Really good experience apart from the controller not being enabled out of the box and requiring touchscreen or touchpad input to select Profile in main menu.
Works perfectly except one thing. When cutscenes play after 30 or so seconds they become stuttery and the audio cuts. These can be skipped.
Worked perfectly. Eye detection worked with my cheap amazon webcam with zero issues.
A really good experience
Recommend in the steam deck performance tab setting the scaling mode to stretch.
Runs much better native than with proton.
Some unavoidable artifacting with shadows mostly. Make sure to set the lighting quality to potato to minimize artifacting.
Some crashes
PROTON_BATTLEYE_RUNTIME="~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Proton BattlEye Runtime/" %command%
Default proton crashes on launch. Switched to steam linux runtime then works flawlessly
-sdlaudiodriver pipewire
without listed launch command the audio is completely broken
Utilities tend to have purple and green color flashes and so do muzzle flashes
Mouse input does not feel very fluid or responsive.
Performance is not particularly good or impressive but playable
Can't really say anyone is surprised about the current condition of the game considering valve didn't include linux in any of the betas so they couldn't catch the bugs early.
On medium settings runs very well. Joystick sensitivity is low by default but can be raised.
Probably would enjoy it but does suck that the steam version doesn't work when applying the same fixes :(
Had to copy the easy anticheat folder into the directory with the shipping exe.
The game is very playable. I did not experience stuttering but the fps is not what it should be given my hardware.
Works flawlessly with the default settings which are pretty much max. Looks very good also
In the in game options I changed the renderer to dx12 so I could enable Async Compute for improved performance on modern hardware.
The performance makes this a bad experience
Runs extremely poorly on deck and pc with 6700xt. Loads of frame drops
I capped the game to 40 fps for a smoother experience. I experienced a couple of crashes (presumably because vram filled up).
The crashes were not frequent enough to detract from the experience.
When getting into a game it works for like 5 minutes and then crashes. I experienced this on steam deck and desktop.
PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 %command%
When using sleep/wake audio would break often
Used the unofficial essential fixes from https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Fallout_3 I included a video tutorial I made that shows how to apply those fixes :)
Extremely lazy verification by bethesda but yes it works and yes it runs well
If the on screen keyboard is brought up in any context while the game is running it crashes
Very poor performance would not recommend.
Mouse input feels very delayed and jittery.
Game is stuttery.
Works well out of the box. Playing with the touchpad just feels right. Only thing is the power consumption seems too high.
Battery life was not great which seems odd for a game of this fidelity caliber.
Recent update seems to completely break the game from opening or outputting any errors on fedora 38.
If you opt into the x86_64 beta and use the CEFcodecfix you can get the game to open but at least on a dual monitor setup it chooses the wrong resolution and tries to stretch the game out across both of your monitors. The summary is either method you use, the game is unplayable.
Decent experience but would recommend a game like golf with your friends if you want a perfect experience. That game is steam deck verified.
Not all controls seem to be properly mapped. They recently refreshed the ui which makes them getting it verified seem more reasonable. Hope they make the controls for steam deck better and the menu navigation with such more usable.
Large workshop maps seem to lock up the deck
Be sure to turn of msaa. When msaa is on it seems to cause a memory leak causing frequent game crashes with an accompanying out of memory errror.
Works great only issue I experienced is when looking at the map and you drag around it to navigate the movement of that is choppy.
Delete SpeechSynthWrapper.dll from Grounded/Maine/Binaries/Win64/
This is one of those games that makes you say "was this made for the deck".
I set it to medium and turned off fsr 1 ( I don't like it) and the game runs great 40-50fps and looks great.
Overall pretty good
Fullscreen mode results in a black screen. Borderless window works but leaves a small white border around the window
Problems occur if you don't shut off the frame limiter and vsync.
As long as you change those options this is a good experience. The only slightly annoying thing is the game seems to have some controller deadzone that makes any precise movement very hard.
If the devs fixed the stuttering the game would be perfect.
Unfortunate stuttering that the devs are aware of but have failed to adequately address.
Game Developers need to find a good standardized way of preventing stutter in game releases or the game engine developers need to, or someone else.
Some slowdown in certain parts but still very playable and very enjoyable.
Developers said that valve is still testing it and it should be verified soon.
Runs poorly but not as a result of proton just a demanding game for the deck. If this game had fsr 3 instead of 2 I might recommend it.
You can play it at around 30 fps locked with fsr 2 at quality and all low settings but fsr 2 at such a low res to begin with has a lot of artifacts. Don't recommend playing on steam deck
Works perfectly.
No issues with online play. I hosted my own server through the in game option and it worked perfectly execpt one crash everyone in the session faced.
Only issue but not actually an issue is that the addon section enable and disable doesn't render correctly and just shows a letter and a colored border when you change it. Just something that isn't perfect but is still completely usable and can be understood.
overall pretty good but rightly playable not verified
Runs well on the default medium settings but battery life is poor, the game supports native 1280x800 but there are black bars on the top and bottom (does not fill the screen), and occasionally you get the mouse and keyboard controls instead of controller.
Doesn't support steam deck's native resolution. Have to play at 1280x720. Other than that I didn't have any issues.
Runs well on medium settings
Molto bene. The artifacts of fsr on the small screen are barely noticeable and it makes for a really impressive experience on this handheld.
Hdr also looks very good on the oled but must be explicitly enabled.
get errors about windows version and drivers versions on launcher but can just be skipped and works fine otherwise
Assuming no issues arise with the ea launcher after an update this game works flawlessly. You can max out the settings for all the games and they run great and the hdr looks great on the oled deck.
SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland
On dual monitor setups it seems to favor the non primary display. This can be fixed by hitting (windows key + shift + arrow key in the direction of the prefered monitor). Sometimes after alt + tabbing it flips back to the other screen.
very good the bad default controller look is the only issue
by default look is inverted so you have to set it to inverted in game settings to fix
Whether or not you would enjoy it depends on how much the crashing bothers you. For me I just got used to saving frequently.
Game crashed a lot through my playthrough the the dlc paradise lost. At the very least 10 times.
The auto save only really saves when you go into a loading zone so manually save a lot!
This frankly a terrible experience and I refunded the game. It is a shame that developers have not come back and fixed some of these issues.
I moved the DisplaySettings.ini from the game directory to home/local/share/Psychonauts. Then I changed the resolution to 1440p for my monitor and fullscreen to true.
The game starts up in a small box and when I did the configuration changes due to have two monitors it tries to stretch it across both screens instead of just one. I.e. not an enjoyable playing experience.
If you do not put the game in fullscreen mode even though it may still visibly be in a window, you cannot select options in the settings properly.
This game could use a remaster because even on windows it frankly has lots of issues adapting to new hardware such as if you don't cap the framerate which you cannot do in game especially if you have a high refresh rate monitor then the physics are buggy.
After tinkering a great experience. Wish the devs would make it a perfect out of the box experience
https://steamcommunity.com/app/3830/discussions/0/864979455204750928/ Fix is referenced from https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Psychonauts Solves controller camera spin bug
Camera spin but solved in tinkering section
This game runs flawlessly native and would recommend everyone plays it as is.
It starts up with a small black border upon the bottom. The first time I loaded up the game I turned a setting specifically vsync on and off and it went away. Now when I load up the game it shows the black border on the intro video but then it goes away once it reaches the main menu. Really a non-issue just something I experienced.
I had to use a community controller layout to play with my dual sense controller. After that everything worked perfectly.
A great native linux port especially considering the horrible windowing issues of the first games native port.
After the recent proton experimental update the bitrate of the movies is fixed. The game is now fully functional and on the deck at medium settings you get a very good frame rate.
An amazing experience and crazy how this runs on the deck. Fsr 2.2 works really well here but when things get really crazy you get some artifacting. My only gripe is that the weapon shop ui and ship planet select ui should be separate from fsr in the render pipeline.
Would recommend hitting play through steam and selecting directx12 for superior performance to default directx11.
Works great for me. Minor stutter when entering a new area but otherwise a superb experience and it isn't even steam deck verified.
Game runs perfectly and looks great as well.
The only issue that I experienced which I don't consider to disrupt gameplay is a couple of times the game crashes after I made a save and left the save room. I do not consider to be an issue because it never crashes during gameplay just after exiting the save room.
If eac were supported this game would be perfect. The game looks great and runs great.
Big asterick placed on this because eac is not yet supported
If you want to play this game really badly use the "game servers" option under the "view" drop down in steam. Then click the game as rust and set the anti cheat option to "not secure". Now you can look at rust servers that don't use eac and can still enjoy the game just with a smaller list of servers. Unfortunately this leaves you with a greatly reduced list of servers with few players. If that is ok with you have fun otherwise you are out of luck :(
Once you sort out the keyboard and mouse to controller binds it is a very good experience.
Aiming with the right trackpad is surprisingly nice.
Works pretty well all things considered. I put the graphics pretty much all to low except ssao I set on with dx11 mode with tsr set to low.
The game runs at mostly 30 fps. The only time it drops are at non critical sections where you are just walking like in some outside sections. During all combat I never really had any fps issues that affected my gameplay. If you have a gaming pc probably play it with that but this is very serviceable and doesn't really look that bad on the steam deck screen. I personally played through the whole game on my steam deck oled as I much prefer laying down in bed playing games without having to have my pc on for streaming.
Basically I can only start the game on the 32 bit launch option but it crashes very frequently.
I can start the regular 64 bit version on the epic games store but half of the screen's options aren't selectable with the mouse. Probably something with window manager but there is no fullscreen option for the game on the 64 bit version.
OPENSSL_ia32cap=~0x200000200000000 %command%
Works well but if you have a newer intel cpu, in my case 12th gen, then you need that launch option or else the game won't open.
Hard to say if you will enjoy this with just a yes or no. The performance increase over earlier patches is quite significant. On patch 7 the game still is unfortunately very flawed from a technical standpoint. Performance is better but there is still a massive stuttering problem when the game is streaming textures which is very often. There also exists some artifacting which is not related to proton, the ambient occlusion can cause some white trailing on the edges of the screen. Whether the devs got ahead of themselves in scope or modern drivers, renderers, or game engines aren't well enough optimized, whatever it is, at this point this game will likely never be completely fixed. If you must play it get it on sale or with ea play pro where you pay 15 dollars for a month and play it.
Item wheel issues without enabling locking mouse to fullscreen windows
When playing with xbox friend had some disconnects. Unsure if this was the friend or something on my end.
Perfect besides the fact that the controller support does not support controller icons. You must guess what button certain controls are.
Native works flawlessly. If you have dual monitors use the launch option I used but set it to your monitors native resolution.
gamescope -W 2560 -H 1440 -f %command%
If you have a single monitor you should be able to enjoy the game without tinkering.
The default controller binds don't work. After switching it works pretty well some stuttering sometimes. Recommend maybe when in game leaving it for a few minutes to compile shaders.
Game does not default to full screen you must set it in the settings. It works well
Besides the traversal stutter the average fps is pretty good and the visuals hold up.
Some loud monster sounds sounded distorted
Decent experience but wish the stuttering was fixed. As seen with a lot of ue5 games the stuttering may be a feature 🤷♂️
+com_skipIntroVideo +r_swapinterval 0 also added these. The second one being uncapping the frame rate.
I added the proper folders as stated on the pc gaming wiki to return texture caching.
I had textures not loading in and staying as low poly models a decent amount during the gameplay. This is a known issue with the Id tech 5 engine the game uses and I don't believe it has anything to do with proton. It did not take away to much from my gameplay experience and the texture caching fix helped.
Pretty good experience all around just wish the game's use of virtual texture streaming didn't weight it down so much.
Runs perfectly just wish it supported 800p and not 720p.
Small issue where mouse came up on the screen and would persist during gameplay. This wasn't a big issue but sometimes the game had to be reloaded from the main menu for it to go away.
As long as you add the command line argument then the game runs flawlessly.
When first loading up the game as is you are welcomed with horrible stuttering which renders the game unplayable. If you simply add the command line arg: RADV_PERFTEST=gpl %command% then all of your problems melt away .
Must use proton for this to be playable. Framrate with native version is awful. When using proton steam remote play does not work.
Doesn't properly window had to use gamescope to get it viewable.
Runs extremely poorly. Not playable
If you plan to play with a friend play online multiplayer with both players owning the game and force proton.
The game is only playable through proton but crashes very frequently. Do not recommend playing it.
Had to use gamescope to make it fullscreen properly. Like 1 and 2 this also only supports 1080p as max resolution.
Runs terribly.
When running through proton performance is good but crashes very often.
Runs very poorly given my hardware
Game runs very poorly via native and can only go to around 1080p as the max resolution. No controller support either. If you want to play this use proton but mind that steam remote play does not work with proton on this title. If you want to play use proton and play online multiplayer with both players owning the game.
OPENSSL_ia32cap=~0x200000200000000 %command%
Only caveat is if you have a newer intel cpu the game will not boot at all. This isn't a proton issue just a game issue. If you have a newer intel cpu make sure to set the launch options I did to allow the game to actually boot.
Perfect aside from forgetting my full screen setting
Every time I launch the game it is a little blurry until I put it in full screen again
Would only recommend if you are interested in the single player.
Multiplayer used to work but no longer works for some reason.
Overall a pretty good experience and I'm glad to see the multiplayer is usable once again. GREAT WORK VALVE!
Not 100% if this is limited to linux but the online multiplayer sometimes takes a while to register players turns.
Works perfectly no issues to report
Played a lot of multiplayed with windows users and had no issues whatsoever
Only good if you only want to play this with friends in the same house as you. Steam remote play is borked.
Tried to use steam remote play but can't open steam overlay. If the remote play session isn't started from the steam overlay and is started from outside of it then it will say that the stream is paused cause you are not tabbed into the window.
Native version works perfectly. The performance between native and proton is the same but the native version provides better stability.
Native version of the game works great. If you plan on playing the local coop use proton as you can't use 2 controller simultaneously with the native version.
-d3d12
If you do not add -d3d12, in busy areas with lots of enemies the fps will suffer. If you want to see videos you need to follow this https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/13sog15/how_to_fix_cinematics_for_warhammer_40000_boltgun/. With all these fixes this is a flawless experience, without it is acceptable.
No Go
The game only works properly after playing it upon the same boot as the when you installed it. Any time beyond that point it no longer opens. Meaning if you want to play it you would have to install it for every play session. :( Recommend playing the new fat shark game instead heard that one works well, assuming because it doesn't use some microsoft edge runtime.
Delete /Steam/steamapps/compatdata/552500 Enable Beta "temporary_launcher_workaround - Bypass Launcher" Restart Steam Verify the game files Delete / Rename "WebView2Loader.dll" and MicrosoftEdgeWebview2Setup.exe" ( you can find both here: /Steam/steamapps/common/Warhammer Vermintide 2/launcher) Run the game & select either "Bypass Launcher" (dx11) or "Bypass Launcher (dx12)"
Can only play multiplayer when you are hosting if you join someone else's game you get kicked.
Credit to MustardOnCheese for the instructions.
After installing via heroic owning it on gog it crashes when launching. I added it to Lutris and used wine ge then added the lutris entry to steam so I can run it in game mode. After that it is smooth sailing. Make sure to have current wine ge for the fixes.(I used wine ge 8-25)
