Game sometimes Lags, but given its slow by nature, its playable
Game sometimes starts lagging at ~20 FPS randomly, solved by turning Fullscreen, closing other apps, and restarting.

The game is clearly made for a controller layout, so it is a lot more enjoyable on steam deck than on PC.
The game really likes to spam connection issue warnings despite being single player. This doesn't pause the game, so you can get killed unexpectedly and it is very annoying.
The game uses some movies/cutscenes that can only be seen with GE Proton.

Game ran absolutely fine on all pre-defined settings. Did not change any settings. The only problem was in-game cut-scenes like the car scene right at the beginning, or the end scenes were not displayed at all. Had to watch them on youtube instead. Others report Proton-GE might have fixed that, but I did not try that, because I did not care about the opening scene, and once I noticed the end scene was missing, the game was already completed for me.

It ran very well. I had no major issues aside from when I would switch monitors to do something else.
If I clicked on another tab or presse the meta key I had to go into settings or press alt ++ Enter to fullscreen the game again
If you can catch it on discount, it's a great buy and runs well on linux with no tinkering needed!

Some cutscenes do not play
Some cutscenes do not play

Everything was perfect, except for the end of the game.
Windowless fullscreen worked great, but sometimes when alt tabbing and returning to the game the taskbar at the bottom would remain and the game window was shifted up the size of the taskbar. This could be fixed by simply using alt-enter.
Ending cutscene would not play, more info below.
I had no issues with RE7 on SteamOS through Bazzite, until the very end of the game. I used max settings (no ray tracing) and never dropped below 240fps (I used vsync to cap to my monitor's refresh rate.)
Here is a summary of the issue I encountered, I'll try to keep this as spoiler free as possible
Basically, the game was great, but when I beat the game it felt like it just kind of ended abruptly, so I thought I should beat it again and go for the other ending (it has a moment where you make a major decision that changes the ending.) Well, I beat it again, and once again it just ended. Final boss defeated, screen goes black, RE7 logo appears, roll credits. Well, I decided to look up some stuff online about the game, and that's when I saw an ending to the game that I never got. I looked and looked for anyone else with this issue and I couldn't find anything on it, I decided to try different proton versions (GE and Experimental) but both did the same thing. Normally the screen goes black, then a cutscene plays, then the main credits roll. But try as I might, I could not get this to happen. I eventually tried it on my Windows 10 install, and sure enough, both save files gave me both endings perfectly. So I'm not sure why this was happening, but I wanted to document it here for other people to see just in case. I also will mention that I got the steam achievements for getting both endings, even though I didn't actually see them on my screen. So if you don't mind checking YouTube for the endings, then this plays great on Linux. But if you do mind, maybe have a Windows install ready just in case you run into the same issue I did.

No changes were necessary. Ran like a charm on really high graphics settings (a constatnt 90 fps) and had about 3 hrs of battery life to boot.
Make sure to turn on Vsync in order to fix video tape footages. Otherwise tapes footage will be slow.

Works perfectly
Just like on windows

Some pre-rendered graphics and animated textures (i.e. TV screens) were missing. This was resolved by using GE Proton

Works perfectly OOTB.
Perfect experience. Running smooth without any bugs/glitches

Proton GE is needed otherwise the cutscenes are broken

Runs well out of the box
You should probably use GE-Proton because although the game is fine the audio will have minor crackling

Just install non raytraced version from betas. RT on resident evil games is garbage anyways.

When running with regular Proton cutscenes did not play but the game started, with different versions of GE-Proton9-16/9-20 cutscenes did not play and there was a black screen and the game did not start. Only with GE-Proton9-4 version everything works correctly.

Game ran perfect with no tweaking.

You have to use proton GE otherwise the cutscenes won't load properly. Also don't lock your framerate in the ingame settings if the game has a slowdown and goes under the framerate limit you set the game will run into slowmotion permanently. Use a startup command to limit the framerate.

Low fps and stutter when utilizing Very High textures and shadows on a 6GB video card. Dropping textures and shadows to high fixes performance issues.
Game runs at a smooth fps with no tinkering.

some cutscenes merely showed a Test Card with a PnP "snow" screen in the bottom right. other in universe videos specifically in Lucas's area simply did not play
The game simply does nothing when I launch it, no matter which proton version I use.

Overall the game ran just fine, I didn't face any issues that were game breaking. Only a bit of artifacting with the lighting

Runs very well
Smooth and crisp, works fine with no special tinker steps.

I had to use Proton7.0-6, otherwise I got blackscreen when launching and then crashed.

The game works flawlessly. At least the demo version. As in other games in the series that I've tried.
Small lighting artifacts, at the highest settings
The game works stably.

Must use the DX11 version of the game
Video files wont play without using Proton-GE

a brilliant game that works almost perfectly OOTB. you need to use Proton GE to fix the "missing movies" issue.
Video cutscenes are desynced and seems to be behind audio.
launching the game with default Proton settings causes missing movie cutscenes, which can be fixed with using Proton GE.

Not playable as of yet

Water reflections were awful
Works amazingly well! Just like native, been playing on constant 144 fps, no stutters, no glitches no nothing!

Started the game via native and had to manually kill the "DXSETUP.exe" program but got it running soon thereafter. Manually switched to Proton Experimental and had no issues.
