native, you don't really need any tinker. works out of the box, if something didnt works for you like gamepad can switch to proton

works out of the box, fairly easy to mod for both off/online play.
Mod support also worked in multiplayer.
This is one of the best running games on Linux. No problems whatsoever and runs straight out of the box

Co-op doesn't work
Native gets stuck on the connecting screen; Windows version w/ Proton works fine.

Game works flawlessly out of the box, however the multiplayer feature does NOT work on the native build (which is quite disappointing). Simple fix by using the Steam Linux Runtime (SLR) CachyOS Proton build.
using native multiplayer got stuck on searching but after switching to proton it worked flawlessly

Worked out of the box natively
Flawless no errors or problems in multiplayer

downgraded to previous steamOS version, which was working. but now nothing is working
had to downgrade to previous steamOS to play online co-op. but now its not working
had to downgrade steamOS to play online co-op. now its not working

Was disconnected from the host once, but that could be unrelated to Proton
On the native version, borderless fullscreen had large black margins on the outside. When I switched to regular fullscreen, my monitor stopped detecting the video input from my computer. No idea how that happened. No such issues with GE Proton, borderless fullscreen worked flawlessly

Forcing proton experimental is needed for multiplayer, unless you want to further tinker with glib and whatnot.

Works natively
Occasionally, game hangs indefinitely when trying to connect to multiplayer servers. Rebooting game once or twice would solve the issue.

Works with some tweaks for online play. After that, no issues.
Glibc update broke online play. Did not work until I ran the following commands in my local save folder: execstack -c libGalaxy64.so && execstack -c libGalaxyCSharpGlue.so
Make sure to fix Glibc if you get stuck in a permanent loop connecting to online services.
Great game, works out of the box
Perfect OOTB

Works perfectly out of the box. Also tried with mods.

works ootb

Absouletly perfect. have never had an issue.

I had to use a legacy application to make some GOG Galaxy files workable. This is only for multiplayer.
GOG Galaxy libs must be modified.

Runs incredibly well, the default controls work perfectly. Mods are easy to install and get running.

Background images may flicker when walking around
Online does not work unless you run the following commands on the game folder: execstack -c libGalaxy64.so && execstack -c libGalaxyCSharpGlue.so

Proton 7.0-6 is important, can't play multiplayer on newer versions
switch proton version

Proton Experimental
Vou testar agora com Mods :)

Multiplayer doesn't work because of a recent glibc update, see the reports from other people for a fix with execstack. Or just run Steam in Offline mode
Resolving the multiplayer issue, it works great!
Works perfectly

execstack -c libGalaxy64.so && execstack -c libGalaxyCSharpGlue.so
in the game folder to fix glibc compatibility issue. Then runs great
10/10 game, try to play with friends
