No issues playing on Steam Deck
Text chat is hard to use because of the slow Deck on-screen keyboard. You can't see what you are writing.
After the logo and whenever you open the chat the screen goes blank. Resizing the window fixed this problem.
gamemoderun %command%
Chat window show black screen.
mangohud %command%
After the splash screen, the game wouldn't display when fullscreen mode was enabled (I'm using GNOME 47.2 with Wayland). After some research, I discovered that others had encountered similar issues with this game on Wayland. The solution that worked for me was installing XWayland. If you're facing the same problem, I recommend following your distribution's official instructions for installing XWayland to see if it resolves the issue.
It seems to work out of the box
When launching the game, I encountered a black screen. Pressing ALT + TAB resolved the issue, which seems to be related to a fullscreen mode bug.
Black screen after publisher logo
The game was black after the publisher logo when using Wayland. The game was running in the background, but the game was not visible. Considering that the Alienware Steam Machine (A100) uses an older GTX 860m, I don't expect many others to experience this issue. Switching to X11 resolved the issue for me and the game performs perfectly.
This game is notably playable but not optimized for Linux. Some artifacts and bugs can be found in the game.
Some characters and or fonts in the game are artifacting. In this case, some characters somehow showed their wireframe.
The performance may slightly or significantly dropped at certain maps that consist of a lot of particles.
VK_ICD_FILENAMES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/nvidia_icd.x86_64.json gamescope -W 1920 -H 1080 -r 60 -f -- %command%
Required pointing to the correct Vulkan driver to avoid crashing outright. Game then loaded to a blank screen with just the mouse. Installing and setting up gamescope fixed the blank screen issue, and the game now runs without issue.
Works like a charm on non-Nvidia GPUs. Will have to wait until a new Nvidia drive comes out otherwise.
Just work, with a little problem when you have NVidia and a integrated GPU. The game ways select the iGPU when you have it.
__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia __VK_LAYER_NV_optimus=NVIDIA_only %command%
Wideout proton command, the textures are a little blurry.
Problem to select NVidia GPU instead of integrated one, fixed with inicialization command. Using AMD or Intel GPU is click and play.
when typing in chat, the screen would go completely black for some reason. doesn't make it unplayable, and i can still type, i just can't see anything.
Doesn't display anything past the intro logo
gamemoderun %command%
You can still interact with the game, just nothing's displaying. Cursor works though. I had SOME success with gamescope but it was a pain to setup and didnt render at native and broke the cursor.
Screen goes black on opening the box for typing into chat. Chat otherwise appears functional.
By nature a live service game will have bugs, but compatibility-wise aside from the aforementioned bug with chat it seems to run as well as it does on windows.
gamescope %command%
If the game is a black screen after the game logos, and you are running on Wayland like I am, using gamescope seems to fix it.
On a KDE Plasma Wayland session: While fullscreen, typing in chat causes a small blank white window to appear at the top left corner. While windowed, the chat input causes the window to go blank.
If you use latest proton any text fields will make your screen go blank when focused
Requires AVX2 supported gpu
The game requires AVX2 support. Older gpus only support AVX1. I am unaware of a workaround. No special launch commands or proton version will change this. Please post a fix if someone discorvers a way to make older cards compatable.
Wont even open a window. Time to crash is dependant on version of proton & cmds. I have tried every combo of cmds & proton versions.
gamemode
Black screen after publisher logo
gamemoderun %command%
Unplayable. Definitely there is something happening on background, but... I've tried Proton 9.0-2 as suggested but game does not even run. All other versions give black screen.
gamemode
only use proton 9.2
Runs out the box
Loss of ability to take screenshots when using ProtonGE
There is currently a bug when using the Steam-Recommended Proton Experimental, where whenever the text enty window for chat gets opened, the full screen turns black until it is closed again. Switching to ProtonGE fixed this, however at the loss of the ability to take screenshots. The vast majority of bugs are just the game's natural flakiness and not anything proton-related.
After the logo, the screen goes black
After the first logo, only the cursor is displayed on a black screen and I cannot proceed. Keys and other things are working in the background, but the screen remains black. I have tried setting it using launch options and steamtinkerlaunch, but the game remains on the black screen.
VK_ICD_FILENAMES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/nvidia_icd.json %command%
Game crashes when taking screenshots (both using f12 and through the camera item) if PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU is set to 1. Steam Tinker Launch has it enabled by default, so make sure to disable "Proton hide Nvidia GPU" under "Proton options" in "Game menu" if you use it.
Heavy artifacting on Nvidia GPUs fixed with setting VK_ICD_FILENAMES. Also tested with prime render offload using prime-run back during beta and it worked flawlessly.
Moving around some shadow sudden edge lines are visible. Only with certain materials, and mostly not even noticeable if not specifically looked at. Not visible in outdoors area
gamemoderun %command%
Works fine, maybe even better than on Windows
On nVidia GPU, it only works if the open source driver is used (NVK)
The way intro/logo screen is implemented is weird, it renders it as a single frame (based on freeze of MangoHUD) before actual menu. This behaviour could exist on Windows too, but cannot confirm. Be patient, don't think it's frozen yet.
It's just can't run with my nvidia videocard
my friend can run on amd videocard, but i can't... i tryied all... additional paramters, protontricks, or something else... it's just don't work! even can't see main menu.
No major issues. Only cape is looking weird.
The cape is looking weird.
Does not launch :(
After I click on the start button steam seems like processing for a few seconds, then nothing happens. Does not do anyting even after trying multiple proton versions (including GE) and some common launch options.
Runs with no issues.
Literalmente no hice más instalar desde steam y darle a jugar, tal vez las letras se vean un poco feas pero, es muy jugable
El tipo de letra se ve mal con como si se desintegrarán
Game runs perfect!
The only issue that exists for me is that the intro that displays thatgamecompany's logo every time the game launches is black, I can only hear the audio. Very minor issue. Game runs perfectly well, no other issues that I've noticed.
Wonderful game with many quirks, issues specifically related to steam deck are few to nonexistent.
Opening "Thatgamecompany" logo video routinely shows black before the game properly loads, presumed to be because the video is playing at higher resolution than the steam deck display, and only the top left(all black) corner is being shown, rather than the video scaling to the screen.
The deck has routinely experienced freezes after closing the game and attempting to launch another game after an extended session(I normally launch from desktop mode), some kind of memory leak? I recommend simply restarting the steam deck after playing the game for a significant length of time, especially if you're running in desktop mode.
Typical early-access game bugs unrelated to steam deck, the game is well-known to have many bugs and weird behaviors natively, and shouldn't be regarded with concern, they more than likely are just the game working as it normally does and not something that can be fixed with any kind of tweaking. Just accept them as part of the game and don't stress about it.
after some updates later game currently works out of box just installed and started playing.
