Native support and works right out of the box.
The remaster of Grim Fandango works right out of the box because it has native support. I am able to join a server. In a worse scenario, you can run the Windows version with Proton or Wine, but I haven't dealt with that issue.

I had to setup sudo passwd and using pacman install lib32-glu and just to be sure glu (I think it's the same but can't tell you now), after that it worked fine.
GoG native version through Heroic Launcher needs tinkering. I already owned it there so I can't say anything about Steam Version.

Works as decent as on Windows and the port has the same issues
You can escape fullscreen, but then to reestablish it the only way is to reboot the game
Also, I would strongly reccomend to lock FPS somehow (unfortunately, the game doesn't natively support VSYNC and then you're getteng 500+ frames per second), otherwise you can actually get a few game logic bugs.
GOG Linux version installed through Heroic -- fails to launch through Heroic in game mode (works on desktop) no matter how much tinkering you do on Heroic settings.
Added as non-Steam game, pointed executable to native binary (not GOG launch script) and forced Steam Runtime in compatibility settings.
I have a previously installed lib32-glu through pacman on read-only partition, so I'm not sure if this made a difference.

Before it seems to have worked out of the box, but now I had to force the compatibility tool to use GE-Proton8-12, otherwise the game would not even start.

Game works perfectly out of the box, all control schemes (gamepad, touchscreen, trackpad) work fine. The remaster is unfortunately buggy, but that is a problem with the game itself, not an issue with Proton.
im honestly floored by how well the game fits the steam deck, it has a linux version so it takes up less disk space, doesnt drain your battery particularly quickly, you can save at any time so its great for short play time sessions, it has full controller support AND it supports glyphs from other controllers, not just xbox, so if you use a DS4 like me, all the icons will be displayed correctly, no problems playing it docked on my TV either
my ONLY complain is that the game itself is 4:3 but the game atleast provides borders so it doesnt look too bad

Works well
Sometimes the game freeze, but nothing that will make you stop playing
Taking apart the freezing times, Grim fandango for sure is one of the most incredible games that I've ever played, and these problems didn't break my experience
If you don't mind playing with KB/M, works good natively!
No matter what i tried, i couldn't get the Steam controller to work. It worked exactly once when i used Steam (runtime), and then it stopped working again. Keyboard and mouse work, but for some reason, the Steam Input isn't recognized at all. Might work with a normal xinput gamepad, might not, Steam controller is all i have.
Switching to any proton made the game crash after the intro logo. Native doesn't work with Steam Input for me, but otherwise has no issues as far as i can tell.
40hz/40fps mode
Works perfect. No issues at all. Even switching to old style graphics works.
Game crashes on Proton but works great natively. After a recent Steam Deck update, game now runs in 60fps and consumes about 9-10 Watts of power.
Gamescope indicates framerates in the 300-400fps range, and GPU usage stays at 99%. The battery life is considerably shortened due to this. There is no in-game FPS cap or VSync option to work around this. The Gamescope Framerate Limit has no effect.
Using Thermal Power (TDP) Limit helps. Setting it to the minimum value (3 Watts) makes the framerate go down to 80-100 fps and battery life estimation climbs.
The game defaults to a native Linux version which works out of the box albeit with bad battery life due to high GPU usage. The game features full controller support, but display Playstation controller icons. Finally it is designed to run with a 4:3 ratio (which it defaults to) ; enabling the Wide screen option (16:9) yields a stretched image.
Running with either Proton 7.0.1 or GE-Proton7-10, the game fails to launch on Steam Deck. It closes after the first splash screen.

Game works native on Linux, but on Proton the game crashed after the loading screen. Seems to be an OpenGL game.
