You're going to have to really tinker with this game as others have mentioned on the PC side. Trying to play on the default proton version doesn't attempt anything, experimental/older versions quickly loads and crashes.
Left click for trackpad; dramatically increased joystick sensitivity
Frequent stuttering even at low settings
Drops to about 50 FPS during busy or demanding scenes at max, set AA to 2x for a pretty locked 60 FPS
First time launch in desktop mode
To left mouse button control
First time launch/setup loads readme file
Game supports controller, but doesn't automatically connect to it; using the right track pad as mouse with left click and going to controls options gives controller compatibility
Very minor framerate stutter during scene transitions
Click ins' text is not shown on the launcher window, all others are readmes' and links to websites, so only the first option to play is needed.
Manually enabled in control settings
Game was a stuttering mess back in 2022-23, so it seems like Valve or Proton got a hold on the performance. Once starting the game, had no issues whatsoever.
Oddly enough, I was able to get into the menus during first time setup, now it crashes immediately
Valve confirmed this as playable before the servers were shut down in May; could have been only playable online
Leslie86 must have been onto something if they were able to at least boot the game (possibly transfer an already downloaded game with its folders.) Seems like you're at least able to play the intro / tutorial levels, which is something!
YRMV Stuttering can either be ignored or be an issue; while not optimized for Linux, when stable, it can keep an almost locked 60 FPS at max
Used recommendation from previous contributor to throttle GPU to 7, but doing so does cut the framerate down
Stuttering issues on and off gameplay; most of the time seems to be an issue with V Sync
Game also defaults to sub 4K 1440p; while game doesn't support 800p, downgrading to lowest settings doesn't remove the stuttering or freezing - so might as well play at max 1440p!
Plays well with max settings with AA set to normal; as previous contributor mentioned, high AA results with unsteady frame rates
Inputting my Uplay password required the touch screen
Max anti-aliasing drops frame rate as low as 30 FPS with maximum settings
Default brightness at 5/10 was too bright, but 4 makes it much darker
Control rehaul
Default layout required use of back grip buttons; moved as much I could to front face buttons
No controller support; no matter how low the sensitivity was, controls were too responsive and twitchy to manage
Not supported
Graphically runs well at max settings at a near locked 60 FPS
For it's minimal art design, couldn't seem to keep 60 FPS during busy sections
Can regularly stay at 45 FPS low settings, but can still have rare dips; better off playing at max with a 30 cap
Limit to 30 FPS
Can't seem to keep a stable 60 FPS especially during the most non-demanding scenes (ex. the intro diner sequence) even at low. Frame pacing issues before and after entering training sequences and when about to start talking to NPC (like when starting a new mission.)
The stutter is definitely not as bad as launch, but game seems to have an issue streaming as when playing inside environments, it runs smoothly, but while in open world, there's very occasional stuttering for a frame or two. If you want an almost locked 30 FPS, turn off motion blur, turn resolution down to 928 x 580p, and turn FSR on with max sharpness.
Had the audio cutout during the end of Killer Croc's boss fight; turning the volume down or up restored it
Intro mission/first boss Killer Croc kept blinking in and out of existence; was still able to attack and receive damage
As others have mentioned, having playing for some time, you'll get a crash and pop up error (which was probably for the Unsupported compatibility.)
Playing on default Proton wouldn't load the game and crash back to desktop. Ran the max 'DirectX 11 enhanced' settings just fine with a few framerate hitches; turned off AA and PhysX to keep it more steady.
Playable at max settings 60 FPS, but flashing could be hazardous for people with epilepsy and all around isn't fun to work with
R1 for Grenade, R3 for Melee, Y for Interact, B to Crouch, and toggled Shift/L3 to Sprint.
Game supports controller, but oddly doesn't support all buttons; better off playing with simulated KB+M controls
Minor slow down while going through smoke and fog
Infrequent flashing/flickering, mainly during cutscenes
First time and every launch will fail installing .Net Framework; not required to play, so able to delete from resource folder in desktop mode
Have to go into the setup program to enable native controller support (for displaying buttons correctly)
Seems to have an issue with streaming as going to new section drops the framerate to 30 FPS for a couple seconds
Going through the settings while in game caused the game to freeze; opening and closing Steam mode would unfreeze it
During combat and walking sections, runs at a solid 60 FPS with max settings with MLAA on. Traversal/scene transitions have heavy framerate drops.
As of the non-Steam beta version, controller settings are borked and touchscreen can't be utilized
Bootup always asks for account sign in confirmation as a second window; doing so prevents you from doing any of the options before signing in as it automatically loads the game
Could only look around and shoot via controller settings; would soft lock game as the mouse also is used to look around. Playable simulating keyboard controls, but lots of bindings have to be memorized as it's quite extensive and you can't select options on the screen (like anything that doesn't have a key binding.) Using trackpad with controller and keyboard/mouse both default mouse movement as such, not the cursor like in the main menu.
Resetting game after soft locking either brings you back to the match (with no option of denying) and even the training area where no one else is there
Worked well besides the controls
Not supported
Plausibly playable, but lots of limitations, frustrations, and soft locks; hopefully will be fixed for Steam/official release
I'm sure there's a way of enabling ray tracing or having the game think you have ray tracing compatibility, but can't run it out of the box.
Downloaded game online and add as non-Steam game for both installation and download (exe file download can be found in the compatdata folder.)
Decreased mouse speed to default
Game will always enable hardware acceleration; leaving the game will have a pop up confirming it, but unable to click or select with cursor - must leave the game by quitting through Steam
Seems like Valve undertook some programming tweaks for Proton as this was previously broken

Personal layout from Steam Controller days
Some voice audio is quieter than other audio; one moment where I was unable to turn up the volume
Gamma settings are broken and makes everything rainbow with artifacting
Minor slowdown when loading new areas outside of loading screens
Not supported
A lot of the launch options are more QOL improvements; max texture use of resolution, fitting the default aspect ratio, using maximum memory, and avoiding screen tearing by locking the FPS with no vync.
The Mesa/Year command is due to the DRM/server connection being very outdated and not expecting someone post 2008 to still be playing (especially online.)
Left click for trackpad; made a custom layout for my Steam Controller when that came out
Captions and objectives
As previous contributor noted, turning and walking at the same time does simulate minor twitching from player character.
First time boot up popped up keyboard (probably for CD key,) but disabled itself
The one modded lobby I joined downloaded files just fine, but after a couple seconds of joining, the game crashed.
Not supported

During the storming of Normandy, the trench dirt is missing and transparent, but still solid to walk on
I also had to use the previous contributor's launch options for one reason, but wasn't the issue they listed though.
Steam recommends (and supports) native gyro support
Setting control settings to gyro disconnected the controller connection; had to add gyro to controller layout
Couldn't keep a stable 60 FPS even at the lowest settings
Created own layout
Was working correctly in my earlier playthroughs, but once I got to 'Goalpost' and the tank minigun section, looking around is extremely delayed and sometimes doesn't do what it's supposed to do
As others have mentioned, won't go above 45-50 FPS no matter how low the settings are; still experiences frame rate dips
MESA_EXTENSION_MAX_YEAR=2008 %command% +set r_ignorehwgamma 1 +set r_mode -1 +set r_customheight 800 +set r_customwidth 1280 +set r_customaspect 1.6 +set com_maxfps 60 +set com_hunkmegs 256 +set r_fullscreen 0 +set r_vsync 0
Custom layout made personally for pre-Modern Warfare games
Voice audio is quieter than music and effects; game only has a master volume slider
Similarly to other people's issue on Call of Duty 2003, even with VSync off, mouse input can be stutter when turning
Auto save will sometimes be skipped for one reason or another
Weird frame dips when loading in new content/section
Had a couple random freezes that turned into crashes
In the mission Sicily, if too many of your RNG squad mates die, your squad leader won't give you orders to continue later in the mission. This can be noted if there's no one waiting for you in a corner outside after two enemies kick down the door from there.
Issues with non-tinkered version of base game are also present; needing to be tinkered with to fix
Not supported
Game has too many issues to fully appreciate Call of Duty's only DLC campaign to date.
Changed config to remove comic border and widescreen effects
Had to downgrade from experimental for the game to save; even then, cloud saves do not work.
Back grip buttons for inventory navigation
More issues in subtitle quality personally than small text
Rather surprised how smooth this runs for such an old and hidden game. This is for you, Inside Gaming.
Changed A to be Enter; any button will do as the mouse and enter key are the only two control methods needed
Some noises were quieter than others
Game is a retro educational game; resolutions and wide screen support weren't a thing for edutainment
To turn on controller support in settings
Frames drop during explosions
Video files are unsupported, so almost all cutscenes are bars and tones, including the main menu
Mouse speed was ever so slightly slow for my taste; turning on low mouse acceleration alleviated this
Games like this make me miss the great amount of AA content in today's world of indie and AAA
Changed controls in-game as there is remapping; barely used instant replay and map, so binded blinkers to left and right D-pad.
60 refresh rate, GPU clocked to 200 MHz
Only in first time boot-up graphical settings window
Besides first time boot, had to restart the game a couple times as it would launch heavily artifacted (kept trying since it worked without issues during the first time start up.)
Required to be enabled in controls with keyboard controls; have to switch to gamepad controls to have it detect the 'controller'
Not supported
Game isn't graphically intensive, but runs beautifully at max setting and looks pretty good to boot. Didn't have all of the same issues as Sagitat, so your result may vary. Here are their results that I didn't have:
Forced Proton 4.11-13 (which makes the GPU appear in the Radeon HD 5600 Series), but intro video wouldn't load.
If this happens, force Proton Experimental, which relaunched the initial configuration window (but now the GPU being listed correctly as the AMD RADV VanGogh GPU) and uncheck the "launch the video" option.
Played in 1184x666 as the window would be too big at native 1280x800.
No performance difference with D9VK launch command since the game already uses Vulkan.
Unable to keep a 60 FPS at low native resolution, but works and looks great at 30 FPS medium-high settings
Game changed a setting during first time boot up of the settings that shrunk the screen to 320x200; had to delete ini file to troubleshoot what happened. The culprit was the 'fit to screen' option; put this to no!
Had issue keeping a steady uncapped framerate at the lowest settings; cap refresh rate to 45 or frame rate to 30 (which gives graphical leeway)
No one was online, but had no issues entering an empty lobby
Works but pretty buggy; had issues with some freezing in the menus and since the game doesn't confirm that there is a second controller set up, only the second player can navigate in the menus for their selection separately. Doing so without a second controller will soft lock the game.
Most settings are set to medium while AA and effects can be set to high. Used cinematic/max settings for view distance as the lowest was set to right in front of you.
Minor frame rate dips
Game supports gamepad, but besides the main menus, menus require touch controls to navigate
Runs fantastic at max graphics; EA account required for online (if it's even online still)
2 files were missing after verifying file integrity; trying to play before just loaded a black screen
Had to verify integrity as 2 files were missing; not doing that loaded a black screen
Comment out/disable NetFileURL and NetFileSkipIfNoConnection from the settings' LUA file from the globals folder
Surprisingly works after personally not being able to get the Steam Showcase beta to work, but buyer beware on Tencent's stance on Linux
Made my own layout
Reason probably being the FSR as it ghosts just like it and with the text so small, not only will it blur when moving, but it's pixelated standing still or in the menus. Tough for the extraction mode, but I've been able to work around it.
Plays surprisingly well at the lowest settings at 60 FPS with occasional dips when data streaming and the rare 60 > 30 dip even with v-sync off
Crashed during first time boot up, crashed after first time sign in, smooth sailing after
Pretty much the same story as previous contributor, but adding my two cents as the game is considered borked because of the anti-cheat officially being incompatible and OLED Steam Decks not working. I say buyer beware since the first time I launched the game, it detected I was on Linux and closed the game with a message warning me. I played Tencent's Need for Speed Mobile on my Deck for a month and never got banned, but they still have every right to (even though their terms are dumb.)
I guess warning Linux users wasn't enough, so they outright broke the game at the opening company logos. 7.0.6 gave an error message on the client while default and experimental would load the game and crash at the previously mentioned spot.
Toggled L1 (examine) button
Locked refresh rate to 45
Pre warming graphics menu before game required touch screen to accept; changing the trackpad to mouse doesn't accept cursor selection
Can be combated by changing subtitles to medium or large
At the lowest settings at native 800p resolution and scaled down by 30%, indoor scenes usually hover around 45 FPS while outdoor/busy scenes can drop as low as 30 with some rare dips below.
First time boot requires mouse control
No auto detect; requires manual switch to gamepad
Also able to play the "lost" online levels by finding the files and transferring them to the game's root
Comic book "cutscenes" before new levels in the main story must be deleted as the game crashes otherwise
Locked at 800x600 like most casual games of the 2000s
Casual game, so no resolution or graphical options. Surprised the non-Steam files worked for the missing content.
During some scenes
Frame pacing issues during some cutscenes
With the graphics settings being only connected to the resolution and Valve's update a couple months ago, able to play 2160p/60 FPS locked
Had to navigate menu with mouse during first time boot up and toggled R1/sprint button
Your character's Guinea pig's VO is noticeably more crackly than others
Have to turn on controller support in settings menu
Game locked to 30 FPS (not to the fault of Linux,) still a decent time for a licensed game
Requires enabling controller support; can't change menu key bindings (B on an Xbox controller is the select option button.)
Not supported
Some menus require mouse
Game plays at 50 FPS; limiting refresh rate to 50 will also save some unused power
As previous contributor said, voice audio is drowned out by other sources. Voice is locked to sound effects, so sound effects will still drown it out even if music is set to 50%
Like previous contributor, had to restart twice as the game wouldn't respond even to a trackpad mouse.
Didn't have any issues with tearing or stuttering when locking to 50 MHz; so your results may vary.
While the main purpose is unplayable, you can play private matches and mess around in the tutorial level
If you find someone, the game will kick you for incompatibility of anti cheat
Able to play with your friends or by yourself in a private match; game doesn't suppprt split screen
Runs well at medium settings, high textures, render distance all the way down, and all other settings on at 60 FPS; tutorial 'rattatat' wall to wall jumping move sometimes is able to do endlessly, so you can get around some invisible walls to explore the area.
Starting game pops up text box for nothing; able to close either way
Playing on low makes some scenes (and all pre rendered cutscenes) freeze or stutter
But as Rafaveli says, you're better off playing on high as some mechanics seem locked at those levels, but with a few frame rate hitches rather than freezing (specifically during pre rendered 30 FPS cutscenes.)
Odd as (at least) the first week of Delta Force, also using Tencent's Anti Cheat, was still playable on the Deck. They probably cracked down on their non-existent issue when most hackers are still using Windows computers.
Game has joystick support; Z axis is the right stick, Rx is right stick horizontal, Ry is right stick up+down, X+Y axis is the left stick for horizontal and vertical control. Change Steam settings for joysticks from mouse control to joystick.
Able to increase font size
No games were available on a weekday at 2PM EST, but was able to quickly join an empty lobby with no issues
Used the settings from previous commenter and it works beautifully; no issues with the game resetting the base settings. To add to their comment, you can crank the AA and AF all the way up. For people that can't see (or can't use for one reason or another) Wuschel +9's Imgur link, here are the specs:
Detail Preset (for most settings:) High
Motion Blur Strength (optional:) 0-100%
Particles: Medium
Vehicle Reflections: Medium
Weather Effects: Medium
Launch the game once to get a failed lookup pop up and go to wherever your Steam files are located, rename the opengl32.new file to a .dll file, and overwrite it as the one shared file is a read only as it's used for all your games. (/steamapps/compatdata/1170970/pfx/drive_c/windows/system32)
Some of your character's VO
Servers are down, but not for matchmaking; was able to join an empty lobby with no issues
Change right track pad to left mouse click to be able to press play (or the other options) on the menu
No AA makes thin plants illuminate a purple tint around them
Game saves sometimes appeared to be corrupted, but loading all saves instead of by character showed they weren't
It's a Bethesda game; only glitch on Steam Deck in a 24 hour playthrough was a T-posing/stuck in animation Brotherhood soldier
As others have mentioned, busy scenes and large city environments make the frames chug, but not worse than already on PC. Even in the vertibird over the city, the game stays at 60 FPS until you load into a new zone/environment. Only settings I turned up was DOF and NPC/enemy loading distance to max.
Was unable to use triggers and bumpers in Doc Mitchell's house (the intro location;) leaving allowed me to use them
Streaming issue when game loads in new outdoor environment while exploring wasteland; displayed by noticeable frame rate drop
Unsurprising as even on console, this game is bound to crash
It's a miracle this even works on Proton due to the fact how notorious the game's (and in turn, the PC port) bugs and issues are.
Using benchmark tool squishes the entire test scene in the middle of the screen
Couldn't select apply to any settings; changed right trackpad to mouse and left click
Couldn't keep a steady 60 FPS unless downgraded severely
Real tree, fire, and physics may be the culprit as they're resource hogs (hence why they don't change when changing overall quality settings.)
Able to get through Uplay/Ubisoft Connect without any issues; trying on default proton repeats same thing
Figured out if the converter gets stuck on "Waiting on Steam API," simply delete the lone .exe file in FNAF's Steam common folder while renaming and moving the Lego version as FiveNightsatFreddys.exe. The app is simply looking for that .exe on Steam, as the default game's files are in the modded version; which is what allows the game to launch through Steam.
While infantry/soldier actions are very much playable, the game's focus on open ended gameplay with vehicles makes it aggravating
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
With the game being made with K+M in mind, vehicle turn sensitivity is huge even when turned all the way down
Couldn't keep a steady 60 FPS; just like on Windows
Launching from Steam takes awhile; this is normal as the game will load
The mission structure is very similar to the first Battlefield Bad Company, being open ended with vehicles. With the sensitivity of them being made without controllers in mind, the game gets janky real fast. Unstable frame rates for an X360 era game also doesn't help.
Even if they aren't and it's an issue with Linux, I doubt people would be playing online.
Playing on high vs ultra is night and day; ultra with high car reflections keeps a pretty steady 60 FPS
Minor freezing when loading in menus
No lobbies were occupied, but was able to join an open one with no issues
Had to turn off night shadows and decrease shadows to low to get a stable semi stable frame rate
Online servers have been shut down
Local multiplayer isn't supported
PC version is notorious for it's unstableness.
Quickly turning the camera like the handbrake camera drops to almost 30 FPS; 45 FPS is the sweet spot for it not to feel uncontrollably variable.
Reviewing for Vice City Next Gen Edition standalone mod, shoutout to Gizzburt on the Deck subreddit for a guide
Required for DirectX and Visual C++ downloads
10 watts @ 45 hz clocked at 1000 mhz
Most during heavy traffic and outside cutscenes with open background scenery
Only during intro cutscenes; skipping the first three to get to the late title card bypassed the crash
I personally kept my battery settings at default, so that of course is optional with all my settings set either on or at high with x16 AF and all the sliders set at 50. Here is other information or steps Gizzburt wrote in their post: This guide aims to help install the game without ENB in order to gain performance, battery life and stability. This guide will require the use of ProtonTricks and ProtonUpQT that are available in the Discover and the resources found in the Redist folder, located in the setup folder. (Having torrented it, I was able to get the files needed on Microsoft's website.)
- Add LaunchGTAIV.exe as a non-Steam game.
- Choose either Proton GE or Experimental for compatibility.
- Launch the executable through Steam to generate the compatibility layer; the game should crash when attempting to boot.
- Select the non-Steam game with ProtonTricks.
- Choose "Select the default wineprefix", hit OK and repeat with "Run explorer."
- Use the file browser window that popped up to navigate to the Redist folder (ex. Gizzburt's computer > (Z:) > Home > Deck) and double click to setup vcredist_x86.exe; repeat with the DirectX Web setup.exe.
- Navigate to the games files location to move to trash (or backup) the d3d9.dll file.
- Navigate to data_launch/enb/del_enb/ and copy:
- gtaRainRender.xml
- gtaStormRender.xml
- visualsettings.dat to overwrite in the common/data/ folder,
- timecycl.dat and all four timecyclemodifiers.dat files to overwrite in the pc/data folder, and
- fx_rain.wtd
- lightsoccluders.wtd
- skydome.wtd
- stipple.wtd to overwrite in the pc/textures folder.
Some graphic settings are resource hogs, but with them disabled, can stay at a pretty steady 60 FPS
Anti-aliasing off or FXAA on low displays sparkling artifacting (common with low spec Unreal 4 games.) Using FXAA high or either Temporal AA fixed it with little performance change.
Couldn't go full screen as 1280x800 kept game widescreen; cutting off HUD, 1280x720 fixes it but is displayed normally in widescreen
Cutscenes (mainly company logos) are unsupported and show colored bars
100% recommend no shadow or reflection quality, as disabling both gives an extra 20 FPS. Ambient occlusion is only impacted minorly during night races with opponent's lights behind you. Everything else set to ultra or the highest settings works beautifully.
gamemoderun %command% -dx12 --launcher-skip --intro-skip --skipStartScreen
Didn't customize, but a warning - don't change Steam inputs while the game is loading; it will freeze the game and won't force close (requiring either a reset or switching to desktop mode)
With the launch options, the game will seem to crash and go back to library game page (with the launch button not saying running,) but would continue after waiting a few seconds.
Once loading in, the game would drop to 10 FPS with all graphical settings set to the lowest.
However the game crashes, will also hard lock SteamOS, requiring a forced restart. Switching to experimental allowed to get past the loading screen into the game and using the launch options allowed to load into the game, but game crashes as soon as the game loads the graphics.
I was slowly getting farther the more improvements I changed or included, but using all the mentioned tries bared no fruit into being able to actually control your player.
Using default proton doesn't load game; surprisingly has hardware acceleration for a casual game
Unclickable window pops up only if you enable hardware acceleration in game
No issues, but game is about speed and accuracy; the trackpad suffices, but doesn't have the same dependability of a mouse
Couldn't tap, click, or use mouse to accept hardware acceleration after closing the game; I'm sure there's a keybind you can use to accept it - not sure if it would work though
No full on crashes back to OS, but a ton of freezing and stuttering during loading
Switched to keyboard and mouse emulated controls since the game is much easier with the touchpad.
Game supports controller, but some binds are double binded; also doesn't show button names, just has generic naming (Button 1, Button 2, etc,.)
Weird either glitch or issue where the game would randomly drop frames (ie not during busy/graphically intense scenes or transitions to new environment)
Was able to join an empty ~150ms pinged server with no issues; game seemed to hold 60 FPS even when crashing vehicle and blowing up environment
Not supported
Made personal layout
Game works with the default Proton version, but each bootup asks you to install Microsoft Visual C++, whether it's downloaded or not. Switching to experimental fixed it from popping up after downloading.
Text/UI are mainly white, so it's tough to see during the day, especially since you can't change the game's brightness. Playing on low resolution/scaling makes the map hard to read with the objectives.
Only on map
Setting everything to low blows out the screen if infiltrating at daytime; since the game can't keep a steady 45-60 FPS at all the lowest settings and no upscaling, I bumped up the shadows to medium, used TSR instead of TAA at 50% resolution scaling, and locked at 30 FPS.
Closed environments like your base can be locked at 60 FPS and looks quite nice at medium settings. Game will only look decent if the shadows are at least at medium settings. Low turns ALL shadows off, so everything blobs together at that point.
Out of all of Popcap's old games, this one is the only one that seems to support hardware acceleration
Weird frame rate dips before alien encounters
When enabling hardware acceleration on Popcap's other games, the menu that loads after leaving the game can't be tapped or pressed; Insaniquarium's on the other hand can, so make your Steam Deck scream with the power of acceleration!
Toggled left stick click/sprint
Restarting game does fix artifacting, but only until the next cutscene
Game controller is suppprted, but with keyboard prompts
Game will crash on any newer Proton version once a cutscene plays
Some cutscenes only play audio
Servers offline since Activision lost the James Bond rights; LAN is still an option
Not supported
Launch splash screen is zoomed in, but doesn't require anything to continue into the game
Noted before
During pre rendered cutscenes
Game recommends high graphic preset for a locked 60 FPS, but was able to bump up AF, geometric detail, and shadowed lights to very high/max with a near locked 60 with rare framerate drops; shadow resolution is the only setting set to high.
Something others haven't mentioned: DO NOT use the in-game FPS limiter; it will give you unsteady frame rates - use the Deck menu and it's limiter instead.
Game seemed to crash at random when booting into the main menu; downloaded a blank video file for the company logos to go through faster.
HUD doesn't scale properly even when border edge is changed; native 900p has the HUD take up a quarter of the screen. Raising the resolution to another one with 16:10 aspect ratio helps, but tanks performance.
Nothing else to add that already hasn't been said.
As previous comment says, game crashes once you've played for so long
With Rockstar's recommended settings being a gamepad (which Manhunt doesn't support,) not worth fixing/tinkering in my opinion.
Not supported
Game runs well at max settings at a stable 60 FPS; more of a test game like Totally Accurate Battle Simulator to see how far you can push your PC (or in this case, your Steam Deck.) If you're expecting a single player Marble Madness, you're surely mistaken.
Since the game doesn't have any game settings besides resolution, game easily locks at 60 FPS
Game audio starts skipping while booting up, stops once in main menu
More to the fault of Telltale's Tool engine, as same issue happened on their console versions
Frame rate dips during scene transitions and hard cuts
Since Telltale's games are more like movies, the frame rate dips don't ruin the entertainment value as more involved games
You can squeeze a very unstable 60 FPS if you drop everything to minimum native resolution - 45 cap is more regular; mods also work!
The mod manager required for a bunch of mods isn't required to launch the game, so you can add the manager as a non-Steam game, mod the game like PC, and launch regularly.
Remedy's official layout is missing some controls (namely quick load after death)
Minor flashing environment
Mouse/camera input is way too fast; had to decrease speed to minimum
Odd choice to have the bullet time + dodge unbinded as trying to enter in with the keyboard doesn't register; you could bind the key to an unassigned button to change it that way.
Required to copy and paste CD key from Steam general game settings
Changed night vision and dynamic HUD to L5 and R5 while reload and jump to X and A. Lean was also missing, buttoned to R4; toggled sprint as KB+M require holding shift.
Particle effects like smoke, dirt, and fire are pixelated
Framerate dips when loading in new assets or environment
Copy/pasting and touchscreen required for CD key first time pop up; default looks for key in a folder that doesn't exist/translate well on Linux
PC port was made with KB+M in mind; while hip fire on the lowest sensitivity suffices, aiming (especially sniping) is very finicky
Framerate dips when loading new sections and base jumping out of airplane
The game itself runs well enough at max settings 60 FPS.
You'll have to play around with your controller settings as mouse is required for menu navigation
Had to turn down all volume settings but dialogue as it would be too quiet with all volume modes at max
Game doesn't appear until after the intro cutscenes, which can be heard
Minor stuttering when game is streaming or loading new environments; can chug when a lot of explosions are happening
Plays surprisingly well for PS2/Xbox era game, minor issues probably due to the game itself, not Proton.
While less open than it's racer on same engine counterpart, Need for Speed: Payback, game rarely drops below 60 FPS even during NPC heavy scenes.
Has same issues as base Linux; crashes/freezes while connecting to servers on splash screen
Only supports native (or most close) resolution; doesn't support 16:10 aspect ratio
Since the game was made with M+K in mind, control stick moves camera too quickly with full stick pushes; since it's a slow paced game, gently tilting the joystick is comporable
If you don't mind missing cutscenes and menu ambience, gameplay is perfect at max settings 60 FPS
Required for launch menu
Can't be navigated by controller
Cutscenes and menu backgrounds are either black screens or colored bars; skipping them proceeds further to playing
Error pop up window couldn't be selected; had to force quit to exit
Couldn't keep a stable 60 FPS even at minimum settings
unset LC_ALL && %command%
Game was made with mouse and keyboard in mind, so joysticks are very sensitive
Seems to be running V Sync with no options within the game menus
Game autos/recommends to medium settings; downgraded to low to better keep 60 FPS
Game has some issues when in vast environments; city environments stay pretty locked at 60FPS medium settings
Any anti-aliasing (or supersampling) drops the framerate
Crashed during settings change
Couldn't get the contrast and brightness just right; would either be too washed out or dark
Unsupported
Had to set resolution in game properties to 1440x900 to fill the screen
Playing at max keeps a semi stable 60 FPS; downgrading will probably 100% make it locked
Left click trackpad with pre-Call of Duty 4 control scheme
Wouldn't say the text is too small, but at times grainy
Game supposedly supports joysticks, but couldn't get them to work
A hidden gem budget WWII shooter running on the F.E.A.R. engine that can no doubt run smoothly at max settings and 60 FPS.
Game has UI scale option to improve
Low view distance and TAA caused distant objects to flicker. FXAA caused edges to ghost; TSR fixed both of these issues.
Personal settings are 30 FPS cap, 50% resolution scaling, medium texture quality with lighting and shadow quality to high. All other settings are at low or off to keep the frame rate more stable as they don't personally make much of a difference in quality. Low textures are too blurry and lower shadow qualities are either incredibly or slightly noticeable enough. Depth of field and lens flare qualities are preferences at ultra. Game was also too bright in the distance with the system setting brightness on at full; setting brightness to 0.5, gamma to 2.4, and keeping contrast at 1 helped with this issue.
Game would seemingly randomly change from displaying controller to keyboard controls
Occasional stuttering, possibly from streaming
Main menu background was broken with colored lines and game soft locked after finishing the first (if only) level with the same colored lines
Since I soft locked at the end of a level, I'd imagine it would do that after every completion. Gameplay wise, it defaults to high settings and it runs pretty well for how it looks and runs at 60 FPS with occasional hiccups.
Game loads into small corner window of the screen; changing any settings crashes the game
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Gamepad not supported, but joysticks are; changed thumbsticks to joystick from mouse joystick
Not supported
Couldn't read the terms and conditions after many warnings and accountabilities about mental health
Supports controller, but defaults to shoulder buttons to shoot instead of the triggers
Game servers are only available in EU; was able to start a server just fine
Not supported
First time dismissal asks to keep hardware acceleration on; requires touch screen confirmation to keep on
Boot.txt file (game location changed to Linux layout)
Even after changing the download location in the boot text file, same error is now happening for game circuits; all the text file shows is the tracks with no obvious way of figuring out the error.
Game is only available in 4:3
Default mouse speed is too slow; increased to medium as high was too fast
Even at max settings, textures appeared smudged
Not supported
Subtitle text is hard to read; menu and UI aren't
Playing everything at 800p low settings still has slight framerate dip in the beginning of every race; during race is locked
Steam Deck's controls are detected as an Xbox One controller; trying to use custom controller settings doesn't respond to any inputs
Playing at 800p low settings: 1-2 frame dips in the beginning and ending of races; rare dip when tire smoke is in front of external camera
Unable to change controls during a race/in game
Even when setting the resolution via Steam Home, initial aspect radio is 4:3
Camera would continuing spinning even after changing to a community layout; buttons were working but couldn't pause or turn the camera
As many others have mentioned, this is one of THE tinkering games that isn't unsupported by Valve; if you work at it, it will work perfectly.
Required mouse control for boot window to launch game and control settings
Every resolution tried kept game in widescreen
Button displays use generic joypad words; menus still use keyboard control layouts
Able to push 8x anti-aliasing with semi frequent dips; mostly when going on straight aways with distant views.
If you don't mind crashing every so often and manually saving, the game works and runs well enough
Mouse isn't detected to choose DirectX 9 or 10/11; touch screen required
A workaround for this is to use manual saves, but turning off auto saves is not an option in the game
Game runs well when at level, but has an issue when looking up at far, but not distant reaches
Game doesn't always crash when autosaving/reaching a checkpoint, but sometimes does
Not a bug, but due to the extensive physics used, the game will chug when in heavy use
Connection was fine, but game has framerate issues that aren't present in the single player game
Not supported
A frustrating 'playable' experience from Steam when needing to download outside sources to fix the issue
Left click for trackpad for menus and made own custom layout out of skeleton of my pre-Call of Duty 4 layout
Only when using Luxtorpeda; requires closing the secondary window in-game
Setting full screen to on would zoom into the bottom left while in the main menu; in-game, no matter the resolution or full screen setting, the game would load in a small box as the play space.
Mouse would either not move or overestimate in low/ high sensitivities and keyboard seemed to pop up randomly, especially during loading screens and in menus
Unsupported
On top of having to download an application to fix my issue, it wasn't fixed until I force quit out of the game and accepted to go into safe mode. Lesson learned on playable games according to Steam themselves.
Probably works with tinkering and/or changing Proton versions, but the fact it's verified is laughable
First sight of a cutscene, the game crashes. Took awhile to boot first time around as well; thought the game froze, but once the FPS counter popped up, it showed 0 FPS, but loading.
Excluding the minor hitching, definitely playable at max settings with hardware PhysX turned off
Cutscenes only register ESC to skip and right trackpad changed to left mouse click for the launcher and some menus
Requires manually enabling gamepad support in the settings
Game is unoptimized even on Windows; can't keep a locked 60 FPS no matter the settings
One server gave error ctf-binary-simplex
Unsupported
Make sure to use the default 32-bit game version; changing your launch to the 64-bit version can't seem to reach the same framerates.
Steam recommended M+K layout when the game supports gamepad; control menu doesn't mention support unless you change manually to gamepad
VSync is locked, so any framerate dip is magnified
During kill moves near objects or walls, camera will glitch through
No one plays the multiplayer anymore, but was able to join an empty lobby with no issues
Local multiplayer not supported
PROTON_USE_WINE3D=1 %command%
Minor stutter when loading new environment
Tried this STALKER out of all of them because it seemed like people had a better experience with Call of Pripyat. Seems like more the issue of the amount of controls/un-native gamepad support is what made this not playable according to Valve.
Left and right trigger as left and right mouse clicks
Only the tutorial text needs to be read; game is simplistic enough to not need it every time
If only you could change the resolution for 4K spaghetti on the go.
unset LC_ALL && %command%
Had to use the launch parameter to fix
Parameter used to fix
Manually put Games for Windows Live files
Using experimental and both manually including or removing GFWL download or regular files bore no fruit.
Minor frame rate dips during cutscenes and busy sections
Lowest FPS was 50 FPS, but only happened once; turning down settings may guarantee 100% stable frame rates
Get it on sale to preserve/keep it to your Steam account, if not, use a Xbox 360 or PS3 emulator with a console copy of the game
Downloaded Unknownproject's Patch from Github
One button for ESC to go back and another for left click (mostly only to change settings)
Controller support is broken, missing the default bind file (having the binds be empty when launching the game.) Patch was the only way to fix it unless you don't mind keyboard prompts and using keyboard + mouse binds.
Even with patch and making a non-Steam game shortcut with the new game file, game was still locked at 30 FPS.
PC port itself is broken and has issues: launching the game natively or through the modded exe file didn't unlock the framerate. Attempted to %command% the exe file's location path, but would crash before it launches. Interesting enough, it is only required once to launch the patch's exe file to fix the resolutions and controller controls; after that you can launch from the basic game page.
Changed right thumb stick click to RB/melee as that wasn't changeable in the options
Boot up launch screen is uncentered, but not required to do anything to load the game
Game supports gyro, but using it uses mouse control; game also uses generic Gamepad control prompts, so it swaps between them and keyboard controls
One instant where the enemies got close and had a quick freeze before attacking
Servers offline/taken down
Not supported
While controls being locked to generic control prompts, game plays a lot like Call of Duty (Raven co-developed DLC for most multiplayer modes,) so easy learning curve if you remember their prompts.
Changed B to crouch (C)
Some text also bleeds into matching color background
Loading screen doesn't fill in completely
Game/war chart continues running while loading new section; loading is longer than what is normal for the quality
Left click
Developer made a controller layout, but isn't optimized for menu navigation; native controller layout isn't intuitive either. Joystick sensitivity was also an issue.
Freezing
First time load in failed to find connection and going back to main menu displayed a see through Windows folder menu which soft locked the game
Downgraded to 580p
Even at native resolution
Low resolution makes everything blob together
Native resolution holds at about 50-55 FPS during missions, can drop as regularly low as 45 FPS, especially during off mission/open world hub exploration. Turning FSR on with max sharpness at 928 x 580p is the sweet spot for being not too blurry, but sometimes drops at 55 FPS.
What seems to be an anti cheat pop up closes the game once it knows you're not running on native Windows
Also having not played in awhile, I was kicked from my league and required to restart the game; pop up didn't respond to any clicks or taps, had to manually restart the game
Left click instead of right
During intro
Booting up requires to navigate to control settings and enable controller support; game default to KB+M
Ghosting effect during Unfinished Business DLC especially during cutscenes and bullet cam; dying also warps surroundings into swirled textures
Not supported
Cranking them up to very high/max does keep 60 FPS, but crashes (at least) when in bullet time
Downloaded through GOG on Windows and transfered it from external SSD to MicroSD in Steam Deck. Experimental and 7.0-3 attempts to load, but crashes back to OS without launching; default and older versions don't attempt at all.
Very minor framerate hitches
Nobody was playing at 5PM EST, but was able to join an empty server with no issues
Linux version is allegedly poorer due to being outdated; having no native controller support also doesn't help - ran very well at very high, max settings.
To see what you're working with when attempting to set up VR on your Deck, run this application
Probably due to connecting to non-existent VR headphones
Freezing when streaming new objects in the test space
Turned FSR on to max sharpness
Default official controls weren't detected by game
For 800p at 100% resolution with low settings, game can keep a semi stable 60 FPS; busy sections with a lot of snow particles tank it
One crash in the span of an hour session
Particle effects are resource hogs
Not supported
Some framerate drops when looking down detailed slopes without decreasing resolution scale.
DirectX 12
Mouse + left click for menus
Some car's audio is more quiet than others
Menu navigation never seemed to work
Framerate screams to a halt during intense physic sections
Physics would sometimes stop working and abruptly stop your car in it's tracks
Game can't handle even single player
Locking to 30 FPS does help and does usually keeps the stability, but either not optimized or won't run well on weaker systems
Turning off motion blur is optional, able to squeeze 60 FPS at native resolution on the lowest settings
[SystemSettings] r.MotionBlurQuality=0
Not exactly a bug, but if you're getting no response from a controller, keyboard and mouse may still be selected in the control menu.
Medium draw distance was still too close and low shadows remove almost all shadows; turning those up are able to get on average 40 FPS, sometimes peaks at 60, can drop to 30.
Low base resolution makes stylized font harder to read
Game requires stick/mouse movement and cursor for selection
Originally being for DOS, game isn't exactly smooth, but is playable
If you can get around the DOS era jank and work with the outdated controls, you'll find enjoyable; most people would rather play one of the newer Elder Scrolls.
Either turn off V Sync manually to get a probable locked 60 FPS or decrease resfresh rate to get stable 45 FPS at max settings
Only if you want to disable V Sync
Capped refresh rate to 45
Unproblematic pop/load in issues during cutscenes
Can't seem to keep a stable 60 FPS even at low due to V Sync always being enabled
Game also doesn't support 800p, making the font tiny, blurry, and hard to read.
Download the V1.2 patch if you load into a white screen; download and add DxWnd as a non-Steam game if it doesn't launch at all - the Russian version of the game is called Metro 2, so the exe file to put into DxWnd is that (no other options need to be checked.)
Made my own config
Voice audio is very low compared to music and sound effects
Game has auto save feature, but only does it during cutscenes (which aren't always in the beginning of missions)
AI is pretty derpy, but not to the fault of Linux
Update to previous post after beating the game; still works, but still frustrating once it does
Game defaults to sound source that isn't controlled by the volume rocker; only way to change it is either in game settings or before playing
Auto save sometimes doesn't want to work; if you redo a part where it didn't auto save before, it will sometimes then decide to
Got blocked two or three times for killing an enemy too early (that would unlock the next door) or a door decided not to open, but would after redoing the level
And again, is an issue with the game itself, not Proton or Linux
Changed keyboard bindings around
Outdoor environments and lighting flashes; funny enough, gives game substance as it's supposed to be set as a B movie on broken film - not distracting for me, may be for others
Default prefix < Windows dll < PhysX; kept getting error messages, but ignored them and waited for the download windows with no issues launching the game after.
Some controls had to be assigned
Some dialogue seems to skip at random times
Minor stuttering, most likely from streaming textures
Cutscenes are unsupported; able to disable them in the launch window
Game refuses to run without PhysX.
Had issues before tinkering; after tinkering and changing settings, now runs at a locked 60 FPS at near max settings
Deleted 64-bit binary folder, renaming the 32-bit folder to 64-bit; not doing so caused uneven framerates
Only required for desktop mode for game client, doesn't open in game mode
Voices are quiet compared to Garrett (your character)
Couldn't get frame rate to be locked at 60 FPS without tinkering or using workarounds
Depth of field at high has an odd bug where if there's multiple NPCs on screen and lightning strikes, it temporarily drops the FPS by one or two frames. Changing it to normal fixes that issue.
To play with very high (max) textures, you're required to set it only once you're in the game. Starting the game on anything other than very low made my game stutter. Only setting changed from max is SSAA; if you don't mind a drop or two, it can be set to low. If not, turning it off will keep the game steady.
Non-Linux issue; fixed by forcing the resolution in the game properties as the only supported aspect ratio is 16:9, which would cause widescreen anyway on the 16:10 screen
Mouse cursor wouldn't go away in the menus even with the controller recognized and being used
Max settings on DX9 keeps at an OK 60 FPS with some incredibly minor dips.
Servers shut down
Unsupported
DX11 is badly optimized even on PC, but you can get a pretty locked 30 FPS at max settings; if you want smoothness, turn off DX11, but you will lose volumetric lights, tesselation, global illumination, and reflections
Game gives error pop up that it doesn't detect the OS and there's no audio devices compatible

Config files from Fusion patch and protontricks for vcrun6sp6 requirement
Game defaults to mono while the Deck supports 5.1 surround (as the game's test option showcased)
Deck's default 16:10 aspect ratio makes the game widescreen, changing it to 16:9 at native 1280x800 changes to full screen.
Requires enabling controller support in the settings
Unable to keep stable 60 FPS at max settings for a 15 year old Unreal Engine 2 game
Multiplayer servers shut down
Seems like some people have to do every tinker or simply one or another. Have my settings set on high for a pretty stable 60 FPS with HDR lighting off as it's a bit of a resource hog. Only frame rate drops when there's distance to the level, still definitely better than the non-tinkering option.
Patch's optional changes like the depth of field can be enabled or disabled in the system/scripts/ini file included in the required download files.
Couldn't for the life of me get to play even with the suggestions and workarounds; Ubisoft can stick it
uplay://launch/568
For Ubisoft Game Launcher download; wouldn't run with Proton tricks/non-Steam game
Makes me appreciate Ubisoft is seemingly going under, maybe their games will actually work when they're gone or acquired... or we'll have another The Crew scenario.
Changed triggers to W/Up and S/Down, Y to enter for respawn, and Select to backspace to restart.
Minor framerate dips; game plays at native resolution with no graphical options
Leaving game minimized shrinks screen size; attempting to leave also closes game, but continues playing music
Can't seem to keep a stable 60 FPS during busy sections even at lowest settings
Not supported
Others have mentioned medium/high settings, but not the specifics: If you're OK with 30 FPS, I have FSR off at 800p, brightness setting at 4 (while the Deck is on full brightness,) and other then shadows and reflections on high, everything else is set to ultra and surpsingly sticks to 30 FPS even during hectic scenes and shootouts. It is 100% doable to squeeze out 60 FPS, but it would require optimizing the base, quality, and FSR resolution settings. Base graphics on low give about 30-45 FPS with resolution set to native.
Doesn't natively support widescreen
Company logo video file must be deleted from game folder; reason the game crashes upon boot
Using experimental Proton fixes this issue, however, choosing a preset will have the same problem. Change the settings individually to get around this.
Deleting company logo cutscene doesn't fix the issue unlike the first game.
Camera would spin when attempting to move even at the lowest sensitivity
Shadows are resource hogs
Game would soft lock when changing AA graphical settings
Very rarely holds 45 FPS when having that be the refresh rate
Physics are resource hogs; holding many items in a disposal unit chugs framerate
Selecting on 'yes or no' menus doesn't display which is selected
Has a odd slowdown every 5-10 minutes where it will randomly go from 60 FPS to 30 FPS and slowly climbs back up one frame at a time
Runs on average 55-60 FPS, but drops as low as 30 at random intervals
You'll want to download d3dx9_42 + 43, faudio, and xact from Proton Tricks (Default Wine Prefix > Install Windows component)
No audio even when changing levels in game
Not exactly mapped improperly; games detects controller, but only displays them as Button 1, 2, etc,.
Touch screen/integrated keyboard also isn't detected; unable to change player name and some info
Multiplayer servers are offline
Using 5.0.1 Proton loads the game, but only plays audio, while Proton GE 6.1 loads the game, but is missing audio. Best to have video over audio than audio over video unless you're a pro.
Game can handle 45 FPS max without hitches, but shadow quality decreased to high for mostly targeted 60 FPS or medium for locked
Game automatically crashes without any tinkering; tinkering gets through first loading screen before game crashes

Game could not make .ini file due to crashing too quickly; used the D3D12.dll and core (D3D12Core) files from Github
Using PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 launch option seemed to 'void' the required DirectX Agility SDK
Playable - disappointed I can't play at a locked 60 FPS when I can with Sleeping Dogs at max settings, which only came out 2 years before
Required system restart to work; would ask for a non-existent key during first time boot-up and crash after second+ attempts
I like the toggle to walk, but it's only for keyboard. Changed left thumb stick to WASD and the upper left back button to ALT.
Only when resolution is set to low
Game glitches when there's a pop-up, like a mission update, where it will repeat the sound multiple times and stops when the pop-up regularly disappears
Usuable item flash is partially checkerboarded; fits well as it looks like an item hacked into the game
Even at minimum settings, game still can't lock at 60 FPS while driving
Wasn't able to match make
Unsupported
You can set everything to it's lowest, but looks pretty ugly during the daytime, but doesn't usually go below 55 FPS even while driving. Besides texture quality and anti-aliasing, you can surprisingly chug through max settings when you sync every two frames, but the input delay is very noticeable. Happy medium is the auto detect which is everything low, medium level of detail, VSync on, and one bump of the AA with FXAA for an average 45 FPS.

Even setting everything to medium with temporal SSAA and the graphical mod makes the game gorgeous with very minimal framerate drops.
Settings/start up menu requires touch screen to hit 'Play' even if you have mouse + left click set to a trackpad
Speech audio is quiet compared to the other sources; had to turn Steam Deck all the way up and turn down every other source down by 1 or 2
Screen tearing during animated cutscenes
Going from the Steam reviews, people had issues with the game crashing after a few levels in one session; played first five missions without any issue.
Even being a licensed show game, being able to play at 60 FPS at 4K max settings is pretty impressive
Any pre rendered videos and cutscenes will not display (most notably the boot up company logos and intro sequence)
Quality setting pages is pretty broken; language is in broken English and attempting to increase the quality higher than medium seems to not do anything, but backing out and going back in shows the real result (but only if you go backwards with the settings like low to very low.)
No one was playing online at 3PM EST, but was able to join empty lobby
What makes it impressive is similarly tech-wise game Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader struggles on the Steam Deck.
File Explorer opens; don't know if it was right, but I selected the game's exe file and it progressed to the starting screen.
Game would seemingly randomly zoom in while changing game settings; have to leave and go back to settings to fix it if your last change zoomed the window
A maximum of 20 FPS at the lowest settings
Intro screen was colored bars (probably as a placeholder of a missing/incompatible file)
Attempting to enable Punkpuster fails (as they are no longer around) and crashes the game
Unable to change resolution to have unblurry text
Attempting to change resolution crashed the game
When attempting to change resolution
Since the resolution is locked, I'm sure with more tinkering, you can have it run by decreasing the resolution
At lowest settings, you can cap the FPS to 30, but still experience frequent stuttering
Basic tinkering to the settings bares no fruit, though.
Changed Y button to Q key to swap weapon; 1-4 keys are automatically binded to left touch pad, changing them to D-pad is optional
Cinematic camera can linger on a skill shot for too long which requires pressing the skip button and some transitional shots before missions will warp through environment
Pixel artifacting when going at top speed; downgrading version of proton will fix it
Have to go into game settings to enable game controls; menu still doesn't display button prompts
Rare slight frame rate dips when things get crazy
Not only controller unresponsive, M+K didn't do anything either
Couldn't control anything but mouse; mouse control during gameplay stopped working
