Will Not Run
I've tried different Protons from experimental to 9.0-4, 8.0-5 and 5.13-6. I've also tried GE-Proton9-25 and GE-Proton8-20. When starting the game a small black screen starts (logo i think) and then instantly crashes right after that. I didn't try any launch options and not quite sure what would fix it.
Runs great out of the box.
Absolutely perfect out of the box.
You do have to enable controller support in game through the settings before, but absolutely perfect.
Need to select Xbox 360 controller from the settings menu
Game runs fantastic on the Deck. You don't need to change anything. But I recommend turning all of the graphics settings to their max. 100+ FPS
Hooked up to a 1080p 240Hz monitor I was able to lock the frames at 100fps the max allowed by the game since it hard limits the display to 100hz.
You need to enable gamepad support in the menu for the controls to work when racing. The menu prompts will always show keyboard controls.
Pixel artifacting when going at top speed; downgrading version of proton will fix it

Rare slight frame rate dips when things get crazy
Changed controls in menu from mouse and keyboard to Xbox360 gamepad to play on Steamdeck.
To eliminate graphical artifacts (pink and white squares and lines) in game, I had to set Compatibility Options to Proton 5.13-6. The black screen on startup can be skipped with "enter" or A button. To enable Steamdeck controls in game, I had to open the game's options and change gameplay->configuration from "Keyboard and Mouse" to "Xbox360 Controller".
L4 for Enter Key R4 for Del key (in order to delete the default profile name)
Minor artifacts from partical effects that proton doesn't seem to support does not take away from the fun of this arcade racer.
Start the game, black screen. Press enter and you should get past it. The resolution may be messed up but if you manage to fix it the game is fully playable. The video background on the main menu doesn't play, but it often bugs out on Windows too.
The game will start with part of the screen missing. You have to create a name, navigate to the graphic menu and set windowed mode. Then it runs well. Game doesn't like fullscreen mode.

runs quite well but my controller won't work and to get fullscreen you have to turn off fullscreen and set resolution to my monitors resolution also when i start the game up i get a black screen until i press enter from then on it runs normal
Unknown(an hour with Proton)I had to copy N'aild configuration backup from old Windows installation into proton prefix, then it runs flawless here. Hit button if black startscreen appears to go further.

The default game resolution is 1024x768 and, at least for me, wine wasn't able to scale my monitor screen properly, so I wasn't able to navigate through the game's menu. So, I had to edit the following game file to set the proper screen resolution (open the file with a text editor and search for "Resolution"):
/steamapps/compatdata/40380/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/naild/Out/Settings/Video.scr
After that, I played a few races with a Xbox 360 Controller and the game ran smoothly with everything maxed out @60fps+ with no apparent issues.
