Without EchoPatch, it's really antiquated and rough, especially the HUD. Do yourself a favor and just use EchoPatch, it's all of the old piecemeal fixes rolled into one and it fixes the HUD scaling.
Tout fonctionne parfaitement

I recommed playing native without proton and the echopatch. (pcgamingwiki) It fixes the frequent despawning of bodies tiny hud and text.
I'm positve about running the game without proton and the echopatch. It only has one flaw for me It can't remap the keyboard layout to my arrow based setup. (technically I can but they all bind to the same (pause) ) key I can do remapping with proton and even use this configuration in native mode. However right control/shift key remapping aren't saved even with proton, you have to remap them everytime at the start of the game.
9.04 stutters , 7.06 not.
My dedicated graphic card is a nvidia rtx 2070 and that's one f.e.a.r ran on. Lovely game recommended.

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Absolutely needs PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% to start up on newer proton versions. I was able to get the game running on older protons without any commands, specifically proton 3.16, but as I wanted to use the default cachyos proton, it needed this launch command.

Here is a link to fix the small font issue https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=180211741
Small font for subtitles is the only issue but very easy to fix it, only takes 3-5 mins of your time.

Works
Tiny HUD was very tiny. PCGaming Wiki has a fix for that

The base FEAR game's only issue is incredibly high tearing/shearing if you run it without Vsync on.
If you want widescreen resolutions, FEAR: Extraction Point requires you to manually change resolution through the settings.cfg file after running the game or with the arguments +ScreenWidth XXXX +ScreenHeight YYYY
where you replace the X's and Y's with your resolution.
FEAR: Perseus Mandate already has all the widescreen code so it work fine.
I was able to finish all of FEAR and FEAR: EP without issue. I've tried FEAR: PM and it seems to work just fine so far.
I haven't tried the multiplayer portion since Gamespy is dead and it requires external fan projects to run it.

When flashlight is shined at between brushes or at certain brushes there will be a black texture on the brush
Works good

(EXTRACTION POINT REVIEW) Runs great! However, lock your FPS to 60 (for both EXP and FEAR)
It works fine, no issues noted after a full playthrough. A HUGE note about this and the original FEAR though, LOCK YOUR FPS TO 60. The game has no in-game framerate limit, so you either have to do this via Mangohud (which I could not get working on this game), or putting your refresh rate to 60, as the game seems to force V-Sync in my experience. if you don't do this, the game will "flash" colors and stretched textures in slow-mo and the ragdoll physics are a total mess. This is not Linux-specific, but I couldn't find any info about this on the internet, so I'll leave it here.

Works fine in gaming mode with either controller or keyboard & mouse, desktop mode has stuttering
Applied the HUD & subtitles scaling patch (see PC Gaming Wiki)
TDP down to 6w, GPU down to 700MHz
Worked fine once I Installed the HUD/text patch
Some issues in desktop mode, otherwise fine in gaming mode
Works great with the gyro or keyboard and mouse in gaming mode, can get 5+hrs of battery life (probably longer if you turn the brightness down). It's quite stuttery in desktop mode on the same settings. For reference, I have a JSAUX dual monitor dock and I have been playing the game on 1080p max settings via the HDMI port using keyboard and mouse when docked.

Modded a HUD scaling fix into the game for readable subtitles
When in a firefight and activating the slow motion ability, a "dust cloud" flickers on screen rapidly. Doesn't always happen. Seems to be tied to outdoor areas? I can't seem to reliably reproduce it, it just decides to happen. Other people reported this and also had a NVIDIA GPU. Might be an issue with Proton + NVIDIA drivers. It's absolutely still playable, just odd.
It just works
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%

Game is amazing and work extremely smoothly. At max setting you get 60 fps and 6hours of gaming on latest proton!
Base on how you want to play I made a few easy modifications:
- lowered mouse sensibility for track pad
- adjust the buttons so that the layout is more similar to a playstation controller
- if you are using the trackpad I recommend removing healing from trackpad because you will activate it without wanting to!
Text is very small, i recommende reducing the sound of the game instead so you can rely more on the voices instead of the subtitles;
No issue with save but note that the game does not support steam cloud save meaning you have to manually transfer your saves if you want play your same game on Desktop
Only noteworthy detail is that the controls take a bit of time to get use too but otherwise is a flawless experience right out of the box! Horror game Steamdeck supremacy!

A bit rough around the edges, but an enjoyable experience nontheless. Played FEAR, Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate to it's completion.
[Extraction point only]
- There were some actions that should've had audio but didn't play for some reason, like a certain NPC kicking a door. Overall, nothing noticeable.
[ALL FEARS]
- There are weird visual artifacts when shooting enemies or scenery sometimes while in slow-motion. I can only describe it as if the blood or debree texture got stretched a lot, it can make things so hard to see I have to switch back to regular time.
- Subtitles were very small
[Perseus mandate only]
- Lighting seems . . . broken in some areas? Not sure if this is just because it's a subpar expansion, but there are some areas with no light-sources that have objects dimly lit, and there are a few light sources that don't emit light at all
- Some objects in the scenery didn't cast shadows
[Extraction point only]
Couldn't change resolution to a widescreen one because there were none offered. I had to manuallyt change it on the cfg file:
File:
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/21090/pfx/drive_c/users/Public/Documents/Monolith Productions/FEAR/settings.cfg
"ScreenWidth" "1920"
"ScreenHeight" "1080"
After doing this, the game would hang if I tried to access the display part of the settings
Explained on the windowing/fullscreen section
[FEAR 1]
- Crashed once on a level transition (urban decay -> point of entry)
[ALL FEARS]
- Physics can be quite janky, things attatched to ropes will move a lot by themselves, shooting enemies on slow motion and turning back to normal time causes the bodies to ragdoll very hard, getting launched several meters above the air. It seems to be more frame-rate related, because issues started to diminish when I tried locking the framerate to 60
- Sometimes when climbing from a body of water to land can be quite tricky, taking multiple attempts
[Perseus mandate only]
- I was stuck after beating an arena where you fight 2 mercenaries, with the music playing but the door to progress locked, I managed to work around that by backtracking and going back into the arena.
I have not tried the multiplayer. Some information about my setup: I am running Gnome 45.2, on an Nvidia laptop, with the entire xorg session being rendered using the Nvidia card. I also have my laptop hooked up to a second external monitor.

Works flawlessly out of the box
Absolutely no issues running F.E.A.R. on Proton on my end, I don't even need to worry about the HID fix needed on Windows to avoid massive drops, it just ran perfectly from start to end without issues.

The game works perfectly without any tinkering
The default version on steam works fine, I updated the game to 1.8 to have my native language and it goes great, played the expansions too without any tinkering or graphical/audio problems.

Disable steam overlay
I installed a german language Patch (FEAR Platinum-DE Patch.exe) and a hud scaling mod for 4k res (https://t.ly/ViDq). Also I couldnt change the resolution ingame which I could fix thanks to the user "Apeguy". You need to modify the "settings.cfg" in /home/MYNAME/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/21090/pfx/drive_c/users/Public/Documents/Monolith Productions/FEAR.

It runs perfect, did not have any problems at all, it was just click and play, it works fantastic like it does on Windows, alt+tab works great with no crashes.

Perseus Mandate Only: Some of the audio such as radio and music are completely mute while in gameplay.
In slow motion time, occasionally large fog clouds appear obsctructing enemies, also including some other graphical artifacting. Outside of slomo I did not have any noticeable artifacts.
FYI: Using wayland on gnome, might have resulted in some of these issues.
Like apeman said, Extraction Point does not support widescreen resolutions in its settings. You have to edit the values in settings.cfg in: /steamapps/compatdata/21110/pfx/drive_c/users/Public/Documents/TimeGate Studios/FEARXP. Base Game and Perseus Mandate has support for 1080p. Might need to edit their configs for higher resolutions
Alt tabbing/switching windows results in game becoming a black window requiring a restart, effects base, Extration Point and Perseus Mandate.
Works excellently OOTB
Wrote a script to change the resolution in the configs to what is available to XWAYLAND1.
Had to write an entire layout to be able to access everything. Played start to finish with it.
Text is too small for some even in handheld.
Plays too fast when returning from sleep.
No gamepad support.

Installed GOG version of game
Notes
-Newer versions of Proton have shader issues (most apparent being semi-transparent weapons)
-also works running through default wine; still runs better through Proton

As other posts have mentioned; you'll need to edit the game config files to increase aspect ratios.
The gun in hand was semi-transparent and using slow-mo in FEAR 1 would cause some minor artifacting. The FEAR expansion packs did not have slow-mo artifacting.

Save data is deleted when the game is uninstalled. No Steam Cloud support.
Plays wonderfully out of the box, minimal issues
Some textures disappearing and reappearing depending on the angle they're viewed at.
Text is tiny on higher resolutions

DXVK_ASYNC=1 WINE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 DXVK_CONFIG_FILE=/path-to-dxvk-config-file/dxvk.conf DXVK_FRAME_RATE=76 %command%
You'll need to create dxvk.conf file in your home directory or in game's .exe folder. Then paste everything from this page (https://raw.githubusercontent.com/doitsujin/dxvk/1.10.x/dxvk.conf) into the file you just created, then change these values:
d3d9.evictManagedOnUnlock = True
d3d9.maxAvailableMemory = 3072
Without tinkering you are very likely to face out of memory crashes on level change
Moved aiming from half-press R2 to L3 click. Re-mapped d-pad with some combat hotkeys.
Subtitles do not scale.
Audio samples were affected during framerate drops.
Control scheme was not maintained throughout. Some buttons lost functionality temporarily (usually the back grips).
Momentary framerate drops when SD overheats, also during some intense combat moments
Virtual keyboard text entry only needed for profile creation and save file naming (can be ignored altogether if you dont mind all your saves named identically and using the timestamp to tell them apart).
Game was made for 4:3, 1024x768x32 is highest intended resolution.
Set your gamma to match the 'barely visible' text (I increased mine by a lot).
Screen brightness at 11 steps from lowest, I got 5+hours battery.
All max settings, very steady 60fps except during the occasional drop for a second.
Plays great! Not a single crash that I can remember throughout my playthrough. Holds up very well!
Added some additional actions to the right pad, customized some bindings to my liking
You can scale up the HUD in the options. On the deck you might also need to bump up the brightness/gamma to see better in dark sections.
5w
The default layout for the game works, but I thought it felt best with some tweaks for my preferences. It runs very well at 5w, reporting ~3.5 hours.
Having played through the main game and its expansions, i can say that all of it works almost flawlessly.
Character's viewmodel is translucent. Shadows can also flicker sometimes.
There's only a few graphical bugs, but they're pretty minor.

The expansions Perseus mandate and Extraction point also work well. To set the right resolution in the expansions follow these instructions as reference https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/F.E.A.R._Perseus_Mandate#Widescreen_resolution
Game has joystick support; Z axis is the right stick, Rx is right stick horizontal, Ry is right stick up+down, X+Y axis is the left stick for horizontal and vertical control. Change Steam settings for joysticks from mouse control to joystick.
Able to increase font size

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8=n" mangohud gamemoderun %command%
For the German i have installed "FEAR Platinum-DE Patch.exe" Patch to get Germal Language in Interface and Game .
Runs like a beauty though I would change some of the controls in settings to fix modern PC gaming standards
The default controller mapping is insufficient and the mouse is overly sensitive. It would work better if you attached a mouse/keyboard.
Small text for the screen size.
Steam Deck emulates a mouse/keyboard. The mouse is overly sensitive and the assigned keys miss flashlight and the speed key.
