-nostartupmovies
As already mentioned, there's a text box pop-up on launch which you can click Cancel to remove. There's some flickery shadows here and there, but didn't bother me personally (there's a fix on PCGW). Ran quite well on Deck OLED with 45/90, with Medium settings that used around 9w average (60 fps High probably works fine too).

Все работает "из коробки"

Everything works out of the box

As someone else said, there's a pop-up with a text box that appears when launching the game. You can click cancel on that though. The game runs at 60fps (with a few minor drops in some rare scenarios) without any tinkerings. Nonetheless, here are the settings that I used:
- Resolution: 1280x800
- Graphics Settings: High
- Vsync: On
- Motion Blur: Off
- Motion Blur Pause: On

PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
I don’t know how the game works on other versions of Proton (since I immediately launched it on Proton GE 9-2). But without the specified launch parameters, the game did not start for me, but immediately crashed without specifying any reason. As soon as I specified the launch parameters, everything immediately worked as it should.

When first launching the game, there's a pop up text box. Don't know what that is, just click on cancel and you will get on with the game.

Works great out of the box
I played through the main campaign with no issues

gamemoderun MANGOHUD=1 %command%
Starts up and runs perfectly. Ran on big picture mode @144Hz no problem. Using Wayland

the game states it's for windows and it doesn't install. i've tried switching to desktop but same results... it doesn't even let me change compatibility layer
Works OOTB w/ minor graphics issues
Occasional moire patterns on the characters
Some ini file changes which you can find in the steam guides these are not related to linux need them for playing in windows as well. These are optional not needed to play the game just improve things a bit. You can find the changes by clicking here

40fps cap
Some minor shader errors in areas
The game runs perfectly on the Deck. The only problem I found are some green artefacts when sniping or in upgrade menu. It runs perfectly.
Runs perfectly OOTB, in spite of weird shadows on characters.
I followed the steps on the game's PCGW page, but characters still had weird shadows on them. In spite of that, the game is still perfectly playable.

A weird screen asking for enter text appered when the game was started. Just choose cancel and the game will start.
With proton 7.0-3 60 fps high setting the game runs smoothly
Starting game pops up text box for nothing; able to close either way
Playing on low makes some scenes (and all pre rendered cutscenes) freeze or stutter
But as Rafaveli says, you're better off playing on high as some mechanics seem locked at those levels, but with a few frame rate hitches rather than freezing (specifically during pre rendered 30 FPS cutscenes.)
Game always opened with a text input box for me. Not sure what caused this but I was just able to press cancel and it would go away each time.
On the character upgrade menu there appear to be some artifacts (small green squares). It is possible this is part of the game design or even be an issue with the pc port (this is a mediocre pc port)
The game itself is buggy but that is not related to proton. Make sure you play on "High" quality as there are some areas that will glitch out if it is not set to high. The physics/destruction of game does not work properly on lower settings. Game still runs great on high so not a huge deal. This issue affects windows gamers also.
Runs a perfect 60 at highest settings and performs great throughout the whole game on the Steam Deck. Well worth playing.
DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 gamemoderun %command% -nostartupmovies
The character textures sometimes look a bit weird, don't know if this is a proton thing or maybe just how the game looks, definetly no big deal!
On my specific setup I had to start with DXVK_ASYNC=1 because otherwise the game would stutter, apart from this no problems at all
The game works perfectly, except for the green and red pixels.
In the "Tech Orbs menu" some green and red pixels but these disappear if you activate "Motion Blur" in the Options.
I have played the entire game + DLC „Pigsy's Perfect 10“ with 1080p 60fps and with mouse/keyboard. Almost everything works without problems, including video/cutscenes and the achievements, except the previously mentioned green and red pixels in the "Tech Orbs menu".
I played with the following command: PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 prime-run %command% -nostartupmovies
MonkeyEngine.ini changes:
AllowD3D10=True
bDisablePhysXHardwareSupport=False
Install PhysX:
protontricks 245280 -q physx
Finished game + DLC with no issues
In game config only goes up o 1080p. You can change ResX and ResY in config file 245280/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My\ Games/UnrealEngine3/MonkeyGame/Config/MonkeyEngine.ini
to set it higher
Runs better than I remember it running on Windows (it was glitchy) years ago, but it might be due to the edition.
Disabled Esync to prevent crashes
Minor cosmetic issue, but skin mesh on characters sometimes appears cross-hatched (can't compare to Windows)
During first time setup, dotnet install fails (as installing dotnet35 on 64bit prefix). Game launches and plays fine, but this still happens on subsequent launches so adds about a minute to launch time. No real issue as plays fine.
Summary
Runs great. Completed main game and DLC without issue. Ran with following launch commands for stability and performance: PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 gamemoderun %command% -nostartupmovies
A few launch options are all you need. There's some weirdness with shadows, but otherwise there's no problems with the game.
Sometimes in cutscenes the shadows on characters would look weird, as if they weren't being rendered properly. It happened very occasionally during gameplay as well, but not often enough for it to become distracting or annoying.
I played through the entire game including the DLC with no crashes. There's some stuttering when you enter a new area, but that's probably due to shader caching rather than anything related to Proton.
I also used the following launch options for the best experience:
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 gamemoderun %command% -nostartupmovies

Straight out of the box, the game crashes after a few minutes.
I was able to play for only a few minutes before it crashed. Tried this multiple times but it continues to crash. Crashes do not always occur at the same spot. Generally they happen in game but they have occurred during the intro videos.

The Microsoft .NET Framework wasn't installing correctly, so the game wouldn't launch. I was able to modify the Wine prefix to use its Windows XP compatibility setting, which seemed to get it to work, though the install took well over fifteen minutes. Even then, I had to restart Steam to run the game, as something from the install process seemed to be hanging. However, after that, the game then worked flawlessly. (It is also possible that something to do with Steam accounts affected this, though I don't think it most likely. I failed to get it to install on one account, and then switched to another, where I succeeded, so I cannot rule out that that switch affected something.)
Game works perfectly. Immediately after installation.
See gameplay on Ubuntu at the link https://youtu.be/AY-KpM0Jg_0
I used Proton5.0-6 and game mode and these launch options: PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 gamemoderun %command% -nostartupmovies
Seems to work okay on Proton 4.11-12 with no crashing, but it will not boot at all with Proton 5.0-1.
Performance is fine, but I do receive stuttering and low frame drops during explosions but that can be attributed with my old hardware. No crashes during my short playtest.
Played fine through the base game and the DLC. 1080p Ultra settings. Controller works perfectly. I would give a solid Gold rating.
Disable ESYNC to avoid crashing every 5 to 15 minutes
Enable D9VK for even better performance. Disable ESYNC for stability. Try using gamemode if you have it installed. "-nostartupmovies" to skip the intro cutscenes.
My commands list : PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 gamemoderun %command% -nostartupmovies

Runs perfectly
Completed the whole game. No issues.

If it weren't for the crashes this would be a Platinum game.
Very minor texture issues on the character "Trip" sometimes.
Crashes sometimes. Thankfully the auto save is fairly frequent so you don't have to redo too much.

Played through the game last month with proton 4.2-9 and gave it a silver because of the missing textures and the characterskins for Trip not working. I replayed the affected Areas and can report no more missing textures and the characterskins work as well. No configuration/tweaks whatsoever are needed. Everything works out of the box.

Missing/black textures are fixed by default with Proton 4.11, you don't need to use d9vk anymore but it's probably better to activate it with "PROTON_USE_D9VK=1"

Played through the entire game including the DLC. In the first Chapters of the main game some enviornment Textures are just black. The characterskins do not work. everything else is working just fine

Missing/black textures are fixed with d9vk (https://github.com/Joshua-Ashton/d9vk). Now it runs perfectly!
