Changed resolution manually in configuration files.
- Requires some configuration of resolution in files manually, no 1440p support
- Requires proton experimental otherwise will crash after helicopter scene
- Regular proton versions won't have PhysX which is a headache to install separately
- Game doesn't remember your custom keybindings after each session
If you can get the combination right, it runs really well all the way to the end of the game.

The game closes when the helicopter crashes.

40hz/40fps, 7w TDP
Running Bazzite:41.
Game defaulted to 800x600 resolution, changed to 1280x800.
Runs at 60fps easily at 8w TDP, or 40fps at 7w TDP. Might be able to push it lower TDP.
The game crashed on me twice at the start of a cutscene. Didn't test ProntonGE, but tested Pronton 9, 8, and finally 7. Proton 7.0-6 seemed to work well with the cutscenes (and other people seem to have success with the same).
Enabled Gyro and back buttons for some QOL for aiming, switching weapons, and sprinting.

+version=3
[PS3_Config,/Configs/DS.cfg/Windows_Config]
[Windows_Config,/Types/Config]
App.DefaultCmdLine="-nop -client -silent"
Client.KeyBindings=Windows_KeyBindings
Graphics.DisplayAspectRatio=FullScreen4x3
Graphics.FullScreenSizeX=2048
Graphics.FullScreenSizeY=1152
Graphics.ToggleResetDevice=0
Sound.EnableEAX=0
[Windows_KeyBindings,/Types/Input/KeyBindings]
[Xbox360_Config,/Configs/DS.cfg/Windows_Config]
Resolutions higher than 2048x1152 don't work correctly
Newer proton versions crash when loading a save game

Needed to change config file to properly support 1080p.
In newer version of proton the game will crash either on loading a save or in a random moment.
Given the age it isn't giving me as much problem as some other games from the same time.

Setting resolution properly required the workaround mentioned in other posts (manual editing of config file).
Games has good framerate, but has a slight nausea inducing effect.
Requires Proton Experimental for audio to play.

had to change DS config file to change resolution 7.0-6 proton needed to load save files
change proton 7.0-6 to load and save game

Find the game folder via Manage -> Properties -> Installed Files -> Browse
Edit the file Configs/DS.cfg
like the following:
+version=3
[PS3_Config,/Configs/DS.cfg/Windows_Config]
[Windows_Config,/Types/Config]
App.DefaultCmdLine="-nop -client -silent"
Client.KeyBindings=Windows_KeyBindings
Graphics.DisplayAspectRatio=FullScreen4x3
Graphics.FullScreenSizeX=1920
Graphics.FullScreenSizeY=1080
Sound.EnableEAX=0
[Windows_KeyBindings,/Types/Input/KeyBindings]
[Xbox360_Config,/Configs/DS.cfg/Windows_Config]
Sometimes the sound hangs and the screen turns black. Just hit ESC to the menu then return to the game as a workaround.
Needs some tinkering but then plays perfectly fine.

Widescreen and FOV fix as described here: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Dark_Sector
Without editing the config file, the game scales improperly to widescreen monitors, getting squished and/or stretched at various resolutions. The game also cannot handle resolutions higher than 2048 according to PCGamingWiki.
I am not sure if this is because of the game itself or being run on Linux, but the game has major stability issues. I've crashed 5 times in an hour of gameplay.

Installed NVIDIA PhysX Software
If not running Proton 7.0-6, game will insta-crash during cutscenes.

I can only recommend this game to those who are interested in Digital Extremes history and Warframe, or have nostalgia for this game.
Weird blurry glitch artifact on bottom right
Frame drops
Game likes to crash
You have to go into the config within the game directory to set the resolution. The game does not support pixel widths beyond 2048, so you kinda have to play in 4:3 if you got a 1440p monitor.
If you are playing in 16:9, the game will be stretched because whoever did the port made a mistake. Go into the config and pase Graphics.DisplayAspectRatio=FullScreen4x3 underneath [Windows_Config,/Types/Config]. Yes, it says 4x3 but they for some reason, made that render 16:9 correctly. You can probably read more in the PC Gaming Wiki.
Game crashes if you try to change the resolution in the options, but changing it in the config files worked.
Added/changed the following settings in /Dark Sector/Configs/DS.cfg (on a 1080p display):
Graphics.DisplayAspectRatio=FullScreen4x3 Graphics.FullScreenSizeX=1920 Graphics.FullScreenSizeY=1080
Occasional frame drops during cutscenes, nothing serious
Both keyboard/mouse controls and default Xbox controller controls appear to work with no issue.
Minor frame rate dips
ini tweak from pcgamingwiki for proper 16:10 aspect ratio https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Dark_Sector#Widescreen_resolution

Audio fixed as of Proton 5.13-6. Runs about as well as it would on Windows, bugs and all.
Game has numerous bugs unrelated to Proton. Check the game's PCGamingWiki entry for fixes.

"protontricks 29900 dsound" to get sound, but there will be some artifacts in the sound. No crackling, just sometimes repeating.
Turn off postprocessing to eliminate artifacts on screen
goto \Dark Sector\Configs\DS.cfg and under [Windows_Config,/Types/Config] add "Graphics.DisplayAspectRatio=FullScreen4x3" define resolution as you want, but your width cannot exceed 2048 or you get problems

Sounds kind of a needed
No audio played out of the box

Audio output is functional as of Proton 3.16-5. Sound will occasionally go out of sync eventually causing it to become scratchy and distorted; placing PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 %command% in the launch options helps mitigate this, but does not fix it entirely. Make sure to apply the widescreen fix found here: https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Dark_Sector#Widescreen_resolution

Everything seems to work as on Windows (including bugged widescreen support) with the exception of there being no audio playback at all.

The game works, but without audio. Performance is rock solid though. No issues with changing resolution and widescreen resolution fix works just fine.

When booting up it gives a physx error then hangs. You must manually kill the game.

The game works without audio. The resolution can be changed.

The game works without audio. if you try to change the resolution, the game broken.
