Playable despite occasionally glitching or crashing
The game occasionally presents a variety of graphical glitches, the ones i experienced are described below:
- Cutscenes display an RBG scale instead of rendering normally
- Textures go black
- UI elements turn transparent
- UI elements show up where they shouldn't
- Character sprites disappear
Occasional stutters while running around
- May occasionally crash
- May hang during cutscenes

Unplayable
The game either crashes at startup or when starting a new game.
Runs out of the box
Lights produce a light ray across the screen, doesn't affect gameplay though
UPDATE

Poor performance
Stuttering and slow downs
The game still suffers from slow downs and stuttering after an year
Poor performance
The game runs around 30fps on lowest quality despite my laptop far surpassing the recommended requirements, i'm not sure it's a problem with Proton or if the game is poorly optimized.
The game crashes when changing resolution or window mode
Works fine
At first launch the window flickers and moves around like crazy as if it's Alt tabbing by itself, i needed to keep Alt tabbing out of the game till it was displayed correctly, then going into settings and changing resolution and window mode.
Dualshock 4 doesn't work
Runs poorly
The game runs poorly because it doesn't allow me to disable MSAA which is taxing on the GPU
Launcher shows "Install" instead of "Play", options and data files are greyed out
Launcher's "Play" button is replaced by "Install"
The game just won't run, keeps implying it is not installed and asks to run setup.exe from DVD
Runs great after fixing the install bug
The game occasionally suffers severe frame drops during gunfghts, mainly when there are many characters firing simultaneously
- NPCs, enemies, and animals walking and running animations don't work
- NPCs occasionally keep rotating their head
- The launcher doesn't recognize the game is installed displaying an error: Fallout: New Vegas does not appear to be installed and the installer could not be found
To fix the install bug you must set the game's install path by following those instructions:
- Open a terminal and run protontricks --gui
- Select default prefix then browse files
- Open system.reg in a text editor then add the following to the last line: [Software\Wow6432Node\Bethesda Softworks\FalloutNV] 1627669000
#time=1d7856f0ad32d72 "Installed Path"="C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas"
- If your game is non Steam then change the install path accordingly
- Run the launcher, if the error persists then run the game's executable directly
Background music is missing
- DirectX 11 doesn't work
- Textures look blank under DirectX 11
When using custom graphics settings the lighting and shadows might get artifacts, use presets instead

The fps dropped below 10 during the elevator explosion scene
Unplayable
The boss faces in the selection screen flicker displaying horizontal lines
After changing to fullscreen and closing the game it gets stuck in a black screen
Slow motion
The game lags and runs in slow motion, mostly because it's a terrible port, poorly optimized.
Game gets stuck in a black screen
I have tried multiple Proton versions, Proton GE and Lutris, all of them have the same issue:
After the very first screen with the car brand logos the game goes into a black screen and gets stuck, mouse doesn't work, keyboard doesn't work, gamepad doesn't work, nothing works, sometimes when i press some random key i can hear a sound as if it was some kind of confirmation or menu input but the screen remains black.
Just works out of the box, performance is better than native Windows 10, constant 60fps at high.
The sound crackles under high volumes.
The cars use the N20 by themselves without player input only in challenge series mode.
Proton-5.21-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Sound crackles randomly
Cars use N20 by themselves in challenge series without player input
Game randomly stutters despite running at constant 60fps
Game occasionally hard hangs, can't kill game, wine or Steam processes from tty forcing me to reboot
If the game hard hangs reboot from tty:
CTRL + ALT +F2 systemctl reboot
Runs out of the box
Sound crackles under high volumes
Sometimes the vehicle uses the nitrous by itself
Occasionally hangs or crashes but not very often
The performance issues were caused by tlp powersched which limits the number of cpu cores used under light loads disabling it fixes the slow downs, the version of the game that i've tested is the original one from 2005 not the 2012 remake
Runs better than native
Occasionally drops a few frames
The graphics ocasionally flicker and textures duplicate depending on camera angle
The game stutters a bit sometimes, it seems to diminish as time goes
Needed to use a patch to fix slow motion
Cutscenes are out of sync, locking the framerate to 30 fixed it for me
The game runs in slow motion due to internal resolution being forced to 1920x1440, the game needs a patch to fix slow motion.
- Browse to https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Resident_Evil_HD_Remaster#Poor_performance_or_slowdowns
- Download the slow down fix
- Extract and copy the files to the game's main folder overwriting existing files
- Open rehd_resfix.ini with a text editor and set desired resolution
The first cutscen doesn't work, it displays an RGB scale and wmp can't be installed via protontricks
Ultimate HD Edition crashes at launch
The Ultimate HD Edition immediately crashes at launch, Proton GE and Lutris present the same issue, the game just crashes before the first logo even shows up on the screen.
Haven't tested the old port from Ubisoft.
Sound is muffled
The game presents a slight slowness which can be fixed with those launch options: PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
While running Leon sometimes stutters for a moment
The game only worked with Proton 4.2-9 Proton 5.13-4 presents severe screen tearing, and the game displays colored crt lines during cutscenes and logo screens Proton GE 5.21 also presents screen tearing Proton GE 5.9 presents screen tearing and got stuck during the village embush before the shack cutscene
Black screen
The black screen persists even though i followed the instructions mentioned by other users, the game won't reach the title screen therefore it's borked
Open a terminal --> run protontricks --gui --> select Resident Evil 5 from your Steam library --> select default wine prefix --> install Windows dll or component --> check and install wmp11 (Windows Media Player 11)

I wasn't able to install wmp11 due to permission errors
The soundtrack is laggy
The controller was incorrectly configured, after configuring the controller neither i or my partner can shoot, if i hold L2 then press R2 to shoot it puts the gun down instead
The crackling can be fixed by setting PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=150 %command% in launch options
The occasionally drops frames and stutters, it also freezes during cutscenes
The game works fine with minor issues that won't prevent you from playing
Crackling
- Frequent frame drops
- Frequent stuttering
Runs decently despite performance issues
- Occasional frame drops

- Fire effects cause severe frame drops
Some cutscenes don't work, trying to install wmp11 fails with status 1
Unplayable, stuck at main menu

Crashes at launch
The game doesn't start at all, it instantly crashes at launch
Works out of the box
The game presents slowness when framerate is below 60 (Due to the framerate being set to constant instead of variable)
The game presents tearing that turns part of the screen black for a moment
Works great out of the box
Slows down when running under 60 fps, reducing resolution and removing shadows solved it.
Black Screen
- Open a terminal and run protontricks --gui then select Oblivion
- Select default prefix then run regedit
- Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Wow64Node
- Create a new key named "Bethesda Softworks" inside it another key named "Oblivion"
- Inside Oblivion create a string value named "Installed Path"
- Set the game's install path in the value (If your game is non Steam set the path accordingly)
- Now the launcher will work normally, if the game still won't run through the launcher then run the game's executable directly (Oblivion.exe)
The launcher doesn't recognize the game is installed, all options are greyed out
