By adding https://github.com/nipkownix/re4_tweaks to the game its much more stable and does not have the quirks it does by default
Ocasionalmente tiende a bajar fps (20 o 25) cada tantos minutos. No he sabido como arreglarlo, pero sacando eso de lado es totalmente jugable.
Pretty much runs out of the box. I did not face any sort of issues

Runs almost perfect
some short crack in the Background sounds, but nothing annoying
only some audio crackeling

Disable vsync and motion blur
Slowness after some minutes playing.

Игра идет просто идеально и проходится полностью.

great ++

Occasional slowdowns, appear to be a game issue rather than a Proton issue since they happen on Windows as well
No major issues or performance dips that I imagine would be a dealbreaker for anyone. Small issue is the game is frame-timed, so if you like turning down the framerate to save battery like I do, that's just not an option. The game will slow down if you do this. I believe the same thing applies if you have a monitor above 60 FPS, but I can't test that. Either way if you're willing to put up with the admittedly annoying framerate quirks, this game is as good now as it was 20 years ago. I do recommend.

Game only ran for me on 6.3-8 and experimental, when i tried other proton versions it failed to launch. The overall experience when playing was identical when playing on windows. You will most likely experience slowdown, this isn't proton bug it also happens on windows due to poor optimization, you can remedy this by turning off antialiasing or lowering the framerate. I recommend playing with the HD project because it looks gorgeus and the performance wasn't worse with it installed, there is an install guide for linux on the official website and its pretty easy to follow https://www.re4hd.com/?page_id=9303

Only 2 major issues are the occasional out-of-sync audio in cutscenes and random control issue. Both can be taken care of for the most part.
From the Steam Deck quick-access menu:
- 30 FPS limit
- Half-rate shading kept on
Out of sync audio during cutscenes. Turned all graphics setting down to the lowest possible and afterward audio syncs most of the time. Possibly can't be completely eliminated.
Potentially game-breaking controller issue. Controller icons randomly change to keyboard controls and no controller input registers properly. Happened occasionally; 2-3 times during my roughly 28 hour playthrough so far. Only way I can fix this is to close the game completely and then restart it.
The game is mostly fine after the settings adjustment. Old game but very good once you get used to the controls. Can feel slightly grindy at times but still fun.

Installed the HD Project mod with Bottles.
You might need to update the re4_tweaks files to the newest version (see: https://github.com/nipkownix/re4_tweaks/releases)
I had to use an older Proton Version (6.3-8) because otherwise i could not look around when aiming but thats only a HD Project mod problem.

Download and install the mod Project Resident Evil 4 HD to get the definitive experience and fix the tank controls.
Minor desync with audio, lipsync and subtitles, despite the game running at stable 60 FPS.
After installing the Project Resident Evil 4 HD mod the mouse aim wouldn't respond, only camera aim with mouse. But now I already got used to playing with the Dualshock 4.
After installing the Project Resident Evil 4 HD mod the game has severe slowdown when facing a two or more ganados. But Feral's Game Mode fixed everything, and now the game is smooth 60 FPS at max settings.
Game would out of the box without mods, but I think they will have a subpar experience, specially if this is thier first time playing RE4. You can install the Project Resident Evil 4 HD mod by adding the exe installer to Steam and running it with Proton. Just install the mod as you would on Windows, it is very straight forward. After this, run the game and click Yes to patch the games' exe and don't forget to add the "WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command%" (without the quotes) command to the launch options, otherwise the controls might not work.

Game works smooth at locked 60 fps. I completed the entire game without a single bug encountered. Ever since Mesa 23.1 shader stuttering is also a thing of the past. Flawless and smooth experience.

Played the game using a Gamepad (Xbox One 1708, through bluetooth). Not sure about keyboard and mouse. From memory, the game didn't play well with kbm.

I tried playing with proton 6.3.8, proton-GE 8.1 and proton 7.0.6. Among these, 6.3.8 works perfectly even with mod, 7.0.6 doesn't work at all, and proton-GE 8.1 can play the game normally, but the mod menu of the RE4HD project doesn't work.
You can play just fine!
The game runs perfectly fine on the default settings the game gives. Despite Steam stating that non-Steam-Deck buttons would appear, I never saw any.
The installation procedure for the HD project can be a little involved, but otherwise installing the mods and playing the game worked just fine.

Plays perfectly. The launch option is only required if using the re4_tweaks mod (the mod won't load without it).

If using the re4_tweaks mod, you will want to assign the F1 key somewhere to access the mod's configuration menu.
Using the alternate frame rate limiter option in re4_tweaks mod will reduce CPU usage
Using re4_tweaks mod with 16:10 support enabled causes pre-rendered videos to be cropped on the sides.
If using gamepad controls, the game applies a very large deadzone by default. Recommend setting the anti-deadzone sliders for each stick in Steam's control configurator to somewhere around 6000, depending on your preference.
Alternatively, use the re4_tweaks mod with its default deadzone settings.
When using the re4_ tweaks mod, the game seems to have periodic frame hiccups. When these happen during cutscenes, they cause the video to fall out-of-sync with the audio. Not sure which setting is responsible - possibly the frame rate limiter, Vulkan renderer, multi-threading support, disabled v-sync, or something else.
The re4_tweaks mod is not really neccesary unless you want to play at 60 FPS. At 60 without the mod, certain animations will play twice as fast as they should, and quick-time events will be significantly harder than intended.
The mod can provide several quality-of-life improvements even at 30 FPS though, like subtitles, FOV adjustment, and increased battery life, though it may come at the cost of occasional stuttering throughout the game.
Runs totally fine, played through a Normal campaign
Some screen tearing, no option for V-Sync so not sure the cause
Works really well, no issues and still holds up even though it's an oldie

I'm playing with the HD Project mod and re4tweaks, and it's fantastic

I got consistent lag spikes when trying to run at 60 FPS. Limiting the frame rate to 59 FPS seems to fix everything.

Works excellent out the box. Installing/running HD Project is 100% possible but iffy to sustain (read below).
Vanilla is entirely playable front to back, both handling and looking great on Deck. Even re4 tweaks is easy to install and use (you should bind F1 to a backbutton or chorded press), and I'd recommend it for removing those stinky 16:10 black bars.
The popular HD Project, however, has a slightly more involved install process which is outlined here https://www.re4hd.com/?page_id=9654. Once that's done however it still runs excellently, albiet load times (including opening inventory or triggering cutscenes) takes a fraction of a second longer. One thing to look out for is Steam's auto-downloading of precached shaders, as this can conflict with HD Project. At one point it caused the game to break and slowdown to a crawl, which I fixed on a whim by switching to ProtonGE.
Perfect OOTB, Perfect with HD Project installed
Runs perfectly OOTB.
Game runs with zero issues OOTB.
gamemoderun %command%
Game runs as expected. Didn't occur any bugs, glitches or crashes in 5 hours of gameplay. Running HD version with 60fps lock in game.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command%
On wider areas, like the river, the game dips from 60fps to around 24 or 20fps, but with the limiter on, it stays at 30. It was less intense before adding the HD mod, it would dip to 40 or 45.
Had to fight big cheese more than twice. Frequent crashes on the doors that have a green popup and are closer to the end of the game
The launch option is for use with HD mod!
When installing, steam did not set the game up properly, prompting many unsuccesful launches. After trying for a long time, steam decided to setup whatever the game needed and now it just works.
Runs well. The HD Project is HIGHLY recommended since it includes not only better visuals(cutscenes included) but also fixes
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command%
Some slowdowns, maybe it's the HD mod, maybe not. Either way they are not impactful to the experience
Crashed 3 times, all of them later on in the game (14+hrs), after that no more crashes. They seemed to happen only on cutscenes
Played from start to end on Proton experimental, besides the occasional crash/slowdown, I had no issues.
Using the HD Project (https://www.re4hd.com/) is recommended, you can use WINEDLLOVERRIDES or winetricks/winecfg to make the dinput8 DLL work (you may also need to manually patch the executable as explained in the project's website). This is the de facto way to experience this game.
No issues.
Worked great.
When booting in gaming mode, the game crashes and I get kicked back to the Steam meanu. When booting in desktop mode, a black screen takes up part of my screen then almost immediately crashes.
I've tried using re4_tweaks and the WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command% launch options, and that didn't work either. The game is current yellow for Steam Deck compatibility. I've tried launching with Proton Experimental, 7.0-2, and 6.3-8, but none have managed to launch the game.
I've attached a log of my issues. https://pastebin.com/nQux71Q8
