While it work perfectly compailing shaders takes foever I would recomend skipping that step at least after the first start up.

Some text is a bit low-res, but it could be due to my settings.
Some textures change quality from time to time, but it's barely noticable from my experience.
Cutscenes were varied in framerate, but ProtonGE fixed the issue.
Even if you don't tinker with some of the settings, the main game itself runs great and plays just as well as its console counterparts.

It simply says "ERRO9: Unsupported function."

PROTON_USE_WINED3D %command%
Terrible stutters during the cutscenes. No. Not just "stutters". "STUTTERS!!!!!!"
Periodically, the game just stupidly closed without any indication of an error. Because of this stuff, I had to go through certain levels again. The game itself was closed at the end of the episodes, before the launch of cutscenes. And this is terrible, because there is simply no normal save system in the game - the game is saved only AFTER those cutscenes, i.e. exactly when the game crashes. I had to go through some levels because of this...
Many Resident Evil games are made on the old MT Framework engine, and therefore they have the same problems - terrible stutters when running on Linux via DXVK. The worst is Resident Evil 6, where stutters in cutscenes are simply incredibly annoying and break the game. And it doesn't matter which Proton you use - there are problems everywhere. But in the case of GE Proton, at least you don't have to install wmp11 codecs manually, because in GE Proton, the video in the game works by default. Nevertheless, there are terrible stutters everywhere. But there is still a solution.
You need to force the game to launch using (outdated) OpenGL instead of DXVK. That is, you need to do the following: 1) use GE Proton 2) specify the launch parameter: "PROTON_USE_WINED3D %command%" - this way the game will launch using regular Wine's OpenGL instead of DXVK. If you use SteamTinkerLaunch, you can enable the same option by checking the box next to "Proton use WINED3D" in the "GAME MENU" in STL (I also recommend checking the boxes next to "Dxvk async" and "Game mode"). In my case, using OpenGL in games on this engine helped to get rid of ~ 90% of stutters and glitches in the game. It's a shame I discovered this option so late.

Occasional crashes mean replaying a 15-20 minute section over again. Pretty annoying when playing co-op
Game would sometimes crash during a loading screen right before a save
Works flawless, no issues.

plays pretty good

Proton 8.0-5

Occasional crashes on some loading screens - happened about 4 times across a 15 hour playthrough with a buddy. Would have to replay certain segments because of it.
Underrated game, and an excellent co-op experience. Fully functional in Proton.

No issues.
matchmaking had no problems
Didn't have any cutscene issues unlike res5 or re:revelations

crashes every 1 or 2 hours with a LAA (Large Adress Aware) Patch for it to use more RAM. I didnt play long before the patch, but i think the patch mightve made the crashes more rare.
There is no need to install Windows Media Codecs or stuff like that (when installing that the game actually stopped working). The Crashes that I mentioned always happen in random cutscenes like a few seconds into the video. When restarting the game it works, but you lose a bit of progress.

The crashes were annoying since the save-points are not the same as the checkpoints, but i think i have never lost more than 15 min progress
i had 2 crashes in around 4 hours (linux) playtime
Performance good,. Only problem are the crashes. I am pleasantly suprised I didnt have to install WMP.
Used protontricks flatpak to install wmp11 to make cutscenes work
Stuttering in cutscenes
gamemoderun %command%
Some cutscene stuttering
Minor stuttering in cutscenes when the camera switches to another view, but for me it's barely noticeable and seemed more heavy in Leon/Helena's story. I did have one crash after 10 hours of playtime, but I suspect that's unrelated to linux/proton as it was shortly after coming back to the game after having it paused with the monitor off to go make dinner.
Other than shader cache stuttering, found no issues
Above normal amount of shader compilation stuttering

Slight stutter when next section of a level loads and during cutscenes. Not very distracting. Otherwise the game runs smoothly.
Works ootb. Worked better with Proton-GE (no stutter).
Plays perfectly OOTB with vanilla Proton, including videos. No configuration needed. 4 hours battery at max settings 60 FPS.
The nature of specific protontricks command as well as install location would make things mostly confusing for normal users.
Game must be installed in standard directory for Steam games for protontricks to work properly. Had initially tried installed on a separate drive and wondered why it didn't do anything.
protontricks 221040 -q wmp11
to install codecs the game needs to run at all.
Very noticable stutters during all cutscenes, gameplay was for the most part perfectly fine.
Crashed once during my hour of playtime.
Had connection drop out at one point during a co-op session, however likely an issue on the game itself.

To make the cutscenes work fine is necessary to install Windows Media Player 11 (wmp11)
How to install Window Media Player 11 with Protontricks on Steam deck:
- Go to Desktop mode and use the Discover app to install Protonticks and Flatseal.
- Open Flatseal and choose Protontricks. Under Filesystem enable all the options.
- Create the Protontricks alias opening Konsole app and this command: echo "alias protontricks='flatpak run com.github.Matoking.protontricks'" >> ~/.bashrc
- Close Konsole app (it's important to close it) and opening again and finally use the command: protontricks 221040 -q wmp11
To reduce lag/stutter during cutscenes switch to Proton 4.11-13
To get past black screen when starting the game replace all movies in <storage>/steamapps/common/Resident Evil 6/nativePC/movie
with ones found on https://www.mediafire.com/file/h710n7937rhwm6p/Fix_Black_Screen_Resident_Evil_6.rar
The crackling can be fixed by setting PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=150 %command%
in launch options
Switching to Proton 4.11-13 reduces stutter but increases power consumption to around 20W
in-game rendered cutscenes have serious lag/performance issues, but not during actual gameplay
works great out of the box on steamdeck with beta channel. 10-12W power consumption at max visual settings 60FPS. default controls are great (XBOX style). only issue is cutscene performance, but it's very playable. have gotten through Leon chapter 4 so far. will update if there are any issues that come up.

Playable, but it's need better proton work
All cutscenes have serious lags
crash every 1-2 hours
Like i writed before - crashes
Works well
All fine, just random crashes make lost your progress to last level completion. And playstation 3 controller works many better than windows version
Default Proton would get stuck on loading screen. Tried GE-Proton versions 7.20 and older to no success (download through ProtonUp-Qt via Discover and set in games' compatibility tab).
Installed protontricks through Discovery and wmp11 (got errors with 64/32bit verbs) and from desktop Steam it wouldn't run or download DirectX updates.
Installed winetricks from Konsole terminal with Pacman...
eventually turned off the Force use of specific Proton in game's Compatibility and now it works. Studdering at times but no crashes yet (skipping cutscenes)
mapped the left stick to standard movement
right stick/pad as camera
gyro enable with right stick/pad touch
left stick click as 180 turn, 90% of the time it works so the timing/delay needs adjust
L4 set as running 180 turn, 90% of the time it works so the timing/delay needs adjust
can turn on vrs
pressing steam button for the overlay sometimes does not respond to controls after the overlay appears, close and reopen
studdering during gameplay ingame cutscene
Even better way to play this game now, previously tried to get it to work with Steam Controller Gyro or myraid of PS Move/PC/PS4 methods. Learning curve with Steam Controller was steep due to inaccuracy of touchpads and activation of gyro (right trigger/fire soft press). With dual analog movement/camera controls for general use and fine adjust using gyro it plays better even though at tiny gyro adjustments there may be not quite perfect. The screen/aim zoom is also small for the screen size which can make far shots with laser sight hard to see.
Cutscenes are almost unwatchable due to varying frame rate
The game showed as "running" but nothing was happening. It opened after installing wmp11 through protontricks.
A lot of stuttering during cutscenes.
mangohud %command%
protontricks 221040 -q wmp11
Crashed once

The crackling can be fixed by setting PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=150 %command% in launch options
The occasionally drops frames and stutters, it also freezes during cutscenes
The game works fine with minor issues that won't prevent you from playing

Select only Proton 5.0.10 in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. I've tried many others without sucess even if Wmp11 already install i get the same Black screen! Run the Game for the First Time to generate AppID for Proton. Now close the game and go back to terminal.Like other users I got permission issues in this profile, seams that Proton 5.0.10 has a litle bug that prevents the acess to Windows Folders, so I did run this in terminal: chmod 777 -R ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/221040/pfx/dosdevices/c:/windows/* After this,Run the follow code in terminal: protontricks 221040 -q wmp11 It will take some time, you can see some information in slow speed, take a patience until the process end, about 2 minutes... Finally is done, the game Works perfect after all
Don't try run in other Proton Version only 5.0.10
Likely issue with PulseAudio https://github.com/panzerlop/panzerlop/blob/main/Pulseaudio%20Crackling/Distortion%20fix
protontricks 221040 -q wmp11
we need to download this pack that replaces a few videos that can cause crashes here;s the upload I found https://www.mediafire.com/file/h710n7937rhwm6p/Fix_Black_Screen_Resident_Evil_6.rar
Right click Resident Evil 6 in Steam
In launch options put: PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=150 gamemoderun %command%
You may not need that command but I find the audio can 'crackle' a bit in this game.
Now click on the tab that says "Local Files" and click "Browse..."
In the window that comes up go into the "nativePC "folder and then "movie"
Select all files inside the .rar we downloaded earlier and drag them into the "movie" folder. Select replace for all.
Run the game

D3DERR or 2fps video, can't get into game, tried suggested from other reports
Would NOT run from second HDD even ext4. Tried even Proton-GE. WINEPREFIX=~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/221040/pfx/ winetricks -q wmp11 didn't fix, loads up but is extremely slow

Needed to use Proton 4.11-13 and from command line execute WINEPREFIX=~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/221040/pfx/ ./winetricks -q wmp11
PROTON_VERSION='Proton 5.0' protontricks 221040 -q wmp11

No Linux cheats
To install WMP11 you need to do a follow instructions https://gist.github.com/joshuakraemer/fb794625af08f076d0d283f5d6ba7562 Obs: Only remember to change the APPID to 221040 (RE6)
