time mode works as expected
Normal Proton simply crashes the game at start on a nvidia gpu but proton_tkg_experimental.bleeding.edge.9.0.176677.20250320 fixed this problem for me or using the intel gpu with prime run can also be an option but i dont recommand it
runs perfectly right out of the box

Used to install mods with the Sonic Mania Mod Loader
when installing the Sonic Mania Mod Loader, you need to place it in the directory where the sonic mania exe is if you need a tutorial, here is one: https://gamebanana.com/tuts/17002
you can optionally also set the game to open with via a desktop shortcut and set up the URL handler but that is optional and not really necessary for modding the game

Works great out of the box
It only took a while booting this game up the first time. Otherwise it's absolutely perfect.

Funciona perfeitamnete.

Full playthrough with zero issues
Extremely rare pixel artifacts in some levels. Experience was non-disruptive.

Runs perfectly out of the box
Could've told me this game was made natively for Linux and I'd have believed you.
Très bien !

PROTON_NO_D3D11=1
Couldn't fullscreen, had to manually set windowed=n
and exclusiveFS=y
in ~/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/default/Sonic Mania/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Sega/SonicMania/Settings.ini

Had to manually go into settings and change the resolution, it starts at like 240p from boot up for some reason

Limited refresh rate to 60 Hz (OLED Model)
Since the game is framelocked at 60 FPS it makes sense to limit the refresh rate to 60 Hz on an OLED model Steam Deck to save some battery life. If the game appears to be small you need to enable fullscreen and set the resolution to 1280x720 in the games video options.

Alt-tab when in fullscreen causes the window to minimize.
Mod Manager Install Tutorial
- Download from https://gamebanana.com/tools/6273
- Extract into your Sonic Mania install dir.
- Add ManiaModManager.exe as a non-steam game.
- In compatibility options set it to Proton Experimental.
- Download mods of your choice.
- Extract mods into the newly created "mods" folder (they need to be extracted, the raw .7z/zips won't be detected).
- Run Mania Mod Manager, enable your mods, click "Install Loader" and then Save/Save & Play.
Played Sonic Megamix Mania for about an hour, seemed to work perfectly.

Works great on Steam Deck
Smooth as a butter didn't need to do anything

Tried both experimental and an older version of Proton suggested by another user. The game refused to start.
gamemoderun PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
The game also refuses to uninstall.

Runs perfectly on steam deck, the only "issue" is that the game doesn't run at 16:10 ratio, but that's the game's fault, not proton's. If you want that, you can use this simple guide: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Sonic_Mania#Widescreen_resolution
Welke proton versie ik ook probeer het spel wil niet starten. Foutmelding : application error
gamemoderun %command%
Started it up and played it with no noticeable issues.
Single Play WOTB
I have not had any issues with this game whilst playing and seem to be really responsive.
wouldnt run at all.
Have tried multiple proton versions.
Works perfectly
If you want mods installed, just download the ManiaModManager and put it into your game files and then add the executable as a non-steam game, then force it to use Proton (version does not matter in my experience) and then install the updates that the mod manager may require.
Not truly a problem but the game does start in a significantly smaller than ideal window.
Controls felt unresponsive and slow for a sonic game.
The controls felt laggy and slow. Might just not have the nostalgia for me to enjoy this game.
Perfect. No problems!
The pixels are a little soft than usual, but that could just be my monitor settings, either that or it's way too late at night for me to tell lol
Runs perfectly OOTB.
Game runs qith zero issues OOTB.
The game runs perfectly, nothing else to add.
Flawless experience, no tweaks necessary
There used to be some issues with this game around Denuvo Anti-Tamper DRM, and some minor windowing/filter issues, but these have all since been fixed. Works like a native game!
It's perfectly playable
Game works great out of the box on Nvidia drivers in Fedora 36. However, using the default fullscreen option or alt+enter gives screen tearing, regardless of V-Sync. You'll need to go into the config.ini file and change it to start up the game in exclusive fullscreen. After that it's fine, as long as you dont alt+tab out of the game. Then the tearing returns until you re-launch.
Exclusive fullscreen had to be manually enabled in config.ini to work properly.
Great experience with a minor tweak becomes perfect!
Use this guide from pcgamingwiki to add proper 16:10 aspect ratio and remove black bars https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Sonic_Mania#Custom_aspect_ratios
Game runs perfect on Steam with Proton, no issues seen so far.
Runs very smooth, basically native gameplay.
I can finish levels in the game with no hassle, it's literally [Install] and [Enjoy].
I have had 32bit amd vulkan driver installed instead of the 32bit nvidia gpu drivers.
Incompatibility with the nvidia drivers.
Tried doing the WINED3D11=1 %command% trick
The game window shows up only to fade away immiedietly after.
