The continue button on the end of mission just saves the game, but doesn't close the window. I needed to forcefully close the game and start it again
The game runs fine, only issue I encountered is the missing sound in new game intro
Intro movie at start of the game doesn't have any sound, but other movies have it
The game is completely playable. I finished it together with bonus material and didn't noticed any issue
Some text is not affected by changing the size of font and it's difficult to read
I'm using external bluetooth PS4 controller and when putting the device on sleep with the game running it is not detected and what is worse it remembers that it was played with that and the Steam Deck controls are unresponsive. Only way to get around that is to quit the game through Steam menu.
As a workaround I'm quitting the game every time before I put the device to sleep.
Cinematic intro not working, but this is already reported here -> https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/2002 . First time the game crashed in loading screen, but this was fixed by disabling Esync. After this the campaign started, but I wasn't able to finish the tutorial (the game froze in cutscene after boarding the station). Tried three times with no luck, looks like some issue with NVIDIA driver - reported here -> https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/2132
Played the tutorial and first mission without any issue. Cinematics not working.
I changed the graphics settings to low, because the Steam Deck started to overheat after 2 hours on medium
The Dark Souls 2 is great experience on Steam Deck, just need the resolution fix on first start
On first start I experienced black screen instead of game. This needs to be fixed by following:
- switch to desktop mode
- start the game
- in settings set resolution to 1280x800
- quit the game
- return to gamemode
In menu the text is really small, but for the game you can change the size of the text
The FSR is doing a good job when playing it on bigger screen
Tha game runs without issue, but the default controller layout isn't working well in this game
Added mapping for flashlight to L4
40 FPS, 40 Hz
The game runs flawlessly out of the box. I only experienced one freeze when picking up chainsaw, but next time nothing happened.
Running smoothly without any issue, even the multiplayer is working (didn't work for me with whitelisted version 3.7-8).
Set native resolution and every graphics setting to medium
Some text is really small
At the end of run, when the final screen is shown, the cursor is missing (no way to click on any option). This could be worked around by openning menu and selecting either Retreat or Main Menu options
I can confirm the verified status of this game. Finished it without any issue. Great experience
When shopping the tooltip on items was almost unreadable, it looked almost like white letters on white background. But it's not issue when the sell pop-up shows up
Sometimes the game just got stuck on loading screen. Just killing the game and start it again solved the issue
I have to disable gyro as it mostly got in my way, otherwise the game was an awesome experience on Steam Deck
Played one whole mission and everything runs smoothly.
Some desscription of items was difficult to read
Most of the text is really small and unreadable on Steam Deck
I had keyboard/mouse connected when testing this out. It's hard to play on gamepad
Black screen instead of intro. Otherwise the game runs fine.
Mouse doesn't work after ALT+Tab back to the game
Only sound in intro
Description of items and their price is hard to read
The game can't find save data folder and when selecting game slot the game just hangs.
The game can't access save files. It freezes when you select game slot.
Game freezes as soon as you select a game slot.
Instead of some text only squares are displayed, otherwise is playable
When switching to media screen I ended up with black screen and needed to restart Steam Deck to fix that
I'm usually putting the Steam Deck to sleep without exiting the game. Elden Ring doesn't like that and after waking the device up it will throw you back to menu after minute or two with connection to server lost. If you click on Continue you will return to game where you left. Because of this I decided to just switch it to offline mode.
Most of the text is small and there is no way to change the size
The game crashed during first start, but changing texture resolution to half seems to fix the problem
The resolution of the menu is completely messed up, you can't even click on the new game button

The resolution of the menu is completely messed up, you can't even click on the new game button
The game runs great on Steam Deck with occassional crash which seems related to Steam Deck overheating after few hours of play
The game is completely playable with few minor issues
I recommend to use keyboard and mouse for this game, it doesn't have gamepad support and I couldn't get used to control the mouse with right joystick or touchpad. But this could be only my problem, the game alone runs very well.
The game runs great with Proton GE, with default Proton the videos don't work, which makes the game unplayable
The only things I noticed are already mentioned in Playable details
- Game shows keyboard shortcuts
- On-screen keyboard needs to be activated manually
The videos doesn't work with Proton 7.0+ or Proton GE 7.0+. Tried with Proton 7.0-1, Proton-GE 7-8 and Proton-GE 7-10. In all cases the videos were just mess without sound. After switching to Proton 6.3-8 most of the videos are working fine, except few skill and tutorial videos
The game runs good out of the box, but only with Proton 6.3-8. With Proton 7.0-1 the cinematics don't work.
Especially in the menu some text is really small
Second controller got disconnected and this caused the whole Steam Deck to freeze.
The second PS4 controller got disconnected after few hours and it froze the Steam Deck.
Most of the game text is too small on Steam Deck
Game is playable without issue, but when clicking on game in game browser it crashes. Automatic search works.
The issue with game browser is gone in current version of proton. Game is running without any issue and I spent hours of fun with it. :-)
Works good. I only had some performance issue when playing for longer time, but I'm not sure if this was Proton issue
After playing for one hour the game started to lag even offline
After moving the DLLs from Win64Shared to Win64 the game works fine. Tested on Steam from Flatpak.
The game is just stuttering a little on start, probably caching shaders, but after this it runs smoothly.
When returned back to menu by game itself (finishing the game) the controls were unresponsive and I have to force the game to stop
The default control scheme for this game is keyboard and mouse, but the game has full support for gamepad
The videos are not working with Proton 7.0-4 and neither with Proton Experimental, what is worse the game will just froze instead of playing the video and needs to be manually shut down. With Proton 7.0-5 the game runs without issue and during writing of this review I'm in the last chapter.
Changed few keys to fit better to my gameplay
Sometimes double click for glide wasn't noticed
I played the GOG version of the game and only needed to change to Keyboard + mouse layout and tweak the keybindings a little as the game doesn't support gamepad
There was a stuttering happening pretty often. Fixed it by disabling RTX in graphics options.
There is microstuttering happening constantly, it's not that bad, but it's annoying
The game itself is running fine, but I didn't get from the first room, because of the missing tooltips
Black square instead of tooltips
Sometimes I noticed a small FPS drop
It was unplayable because you don't know what to press. I even accidentally killed hostage when I just tried to figure out the controls.
As long as you don't Alt-Tab from the game you don't even notice it's running through Proton
Alt-Tab freezes the game
There is a black screen on first start even with experimental, you can get rid of it by clicking A and touching the bottom of the screen (it seems some popup is showing that you need to confirm)
- You need to switch to experimental - otherwise the intros are not playing
- The launcher is really annoying as it's not supporting gamepad
- First start of the game ends up with black screen, just start clicking A and touching bottom of the screen and you will eventually confirm what is rendering the screen black
It would be nice to have option to scale UI as most of the tooltips are difficult to read
Need some proton tweaks, otherwise running without issue.
Only the settings have some small text that is harder to read
Except for videos that don't play (there are not really needed for the story or the game itself) the game runs without issue on Steam Deck
40 FPS cap and 40 Hz refresh rate
Videos don't play because of missing codecs
Needed to map some keys that are used in game but not mapped by default
Some text is really small, like prices of permanent abilities
The game itself runs like a charm, but the gamepad controls are strange and the game is unplayable for me because of that
The game itself runs great, but the lack of gamepad support makes it difficult to play on Steam Deck
I would recommend to play this with mouse and keyboard. I wasn't able to get used to the gamepad controls the game provides. But this could be only my problem.
I needed to lower the graphics settings, but this is probably caused by running it on external monitor with 1920x1080 resolution, so not an issue with Steam Deck
The controls on gamepad are little awkward, but the game is fully playable without any issue
Mapped some keys that I found useful (like end of turn or quicksave)
The game runs awesome out of the box. Resolution is correct, shows correct buttons in tooltips and the default controls profile works nice.
The game itself is running awesome out of the box, but you will miss most of the story, because the missing Windows Media Player 11
Tried to install wmp11, but failed
The videos stop playing around Episode 6
According to other reports here, to enable the movies in the game, you need to switch to Proton 5.0-10 and install wmp11 with protontricks. Unfortunatelly the installation of wmp11 fails on Steam Deck, so you are not able to see any movie starting from Episode 6
The left stick on my PS4 Dual Shock didn't work in game, I needed to remap it to WSAD, after that the controller worked
Played of few hours without any problem
I played it with Proton 7.0-4 and noticed that you need to choose the first option on lauch, the second one will either crash or stay stuck in loading screen indefinitely.
Sometimes there was a loading screen poping up for all players, but the game always resumed without issue
To run the game you need to chose the first option when launching the game (AMD option just crashed on Steam Deck).
I found out that when using Proton Experimental instead of Proton 7.0-4 it will fix the issue with the research tree. With Proton 7.0-4 you are unable to move the research tree, so it's not easy to do any advanced research (you need to manually search for it).
The previous report from me was incorrect, I forgot that I was originally playing with Proton Experimental and didn't check the research tree after change to 7.0-4.
Some tooltips are really small
Description of some items is really small to read
With PS4 controller I needed to switch the controller schema to Keyboard and mouse, it was unresponsive till that
Game is running smoothly out of the box. Played tutorial and one mission and no issue detected.
Sometimes star system labels are just flicking somewhere else when in-game window is opened
Some windows have few pixels from right side cut off due to small resolution
Can't rename anything, the on-screen keyboard only registers first key touched
You just need to use touchscreen to go through launche after that the games runs very well
Part of the screen is blinking on profession selection screen
I lowered some options in graphical settings to improve the battery life, otherwise the game is running fine
Game runs without issue, just doesn't support gamepad profile well, so I switched to touchscreen profile.
30 fps
The game is not launching because of Valve's CEG DRM - https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/563
The game is running with Proton (7.0-4 in my case), doesn't use the native version.
The game runs flawlessly out of the box, although I'm not sure why it's selecting Proton as default when native version is available
40 FPS, 40Hz
The journal is difficult to read
The quick time events usually wants you to click on key that isn't mapped in default steam deck profile, but you can automatically skip them by setting this in the menu
The controller is not supported, so the game will show you keyboard shortcuts instead of controller buttons, but the default configuration works well.
The game didn't detected my PS4 controller and showed Steam Deck icons instead, but I was able to change this manually in the menu.
30 FPS cap and 40 Hz refresh rate
TFix
The game is switching itself to left most screen every time you open menu, even if it's not primary.
The FPS on the campaign map is around 10-15 even on lowest settings
Some tooltips are really small
Shows mouse and keyboards shortcuts, but the official control template works fine
Just mapped few key shortcuts I missed on the gamepad
Abnormal exit detected
This is due GFWL being part of the game

I wasn't able to play more than 10 minutes before experiencing freeze and usually lost some progress because of the freezes
-full -width 1920 -height 1080 -game Unofficial_Patch
without the launch options the game starts in top left corner and you see a black screen instead menu
Quicksaves freezing the game
The game freezes on loadings ocassionaly, which was issue with original game on Windows as well, but the bigger issue is that the quicksave freezes the game in most cases. There is a workaround for it on Proton Github, but for me it only worked in 2 from 3 times
The performance in the Proton is awesome, but the constant freezes are making the game unplayable
Changed resolution to 1280x800, graphical settings to low and FPS cap to 30
Plenty of text is small, but still readable
Instead of game file explorer is launched and you need to navigate manually to Binaries/ and start exe file. Resolution and window mode can't be changed, game crashes. Otherwise the game is playable. Finished one mission without any issue.
Except for manual start of the executable the game runs without issue
Instead of starting the game directly, you will be greeted by file manager and you need to navigate to Binaries/Win32 to find the *.exe file
Crashes at startup, shortly after the splash screen.
Crashes at startup, shortly after the splash screen.
The game runs pretty well, I didn't noticed any game breaking issue after playing it for over 20 hours
After some time playing I'm seeing pipewire issues in journal and the sound is crackling
When there is a lot of enemies on the screen the game is starting to lag, sometimes there is a short freeze when the drop from enemy is being calculated
Under wayland I just got black screen instead of menu, works fine on X.Org
30 FPS cap and 40 Hz refresh rate
Doesn't start
Doesn't start
Doesn't start
I experienced one crash during loading, I suspect Steam Deck overheating
I have to tweak the settings a little to get the best experience. I set the graphic quality to medium and changed the performance profile to dynamic.
Played few dungeons and didn't even noticed the game is running using Proton
The game runs smoothly, played one mission and didn't noticed any issues.
The game must be started without launcher, otherwise runs smoothly.
Most of the text in the game is really small and hard to read
The graphical settings are set to lowest on first start, but Steam Deck easily handles higher settings
The game is playable only with beta temporary_launcher_workaround branch and with this you can play only prologue and no progress is saved. Every online activity will throw error and return you back to lobby because of the EAC. This renders the game generally unplayable.

I was able to run it with Proton 5.0-10, but the mouse didn't work
Tried the legacy beta branch, which I could start with Proton 5.13-6, but encountered the same issue as above
The game runs fine with Proton 5.0-10 on X.Org, only small issue with sound sometimes, feeling out of sync
I was able to make the game run with Proton 5.0-10, with newer version of Proton the launcher doesn't work. On the Wayland I also had issue with missing mouse in menu, when I switched to X.Org the issue was gone.
