Game boots up fine with GE-Proton9-15 and Proton 9.0.3 BUT the game it self is stuttering. Downgrading to 7.0-6 fixes this.
Game overall is blazing fast, but as the title says you really need a older proton to fix the stuttering.

Wie unter Windows

No issues, no tinkering. A great RTS experience on Linux
Played the first few campaign missions with zero issues

Love playing the only new RTS!
Played with friends and did have issues with a second screen and had to reset video settings.
Works out of the box
prime-run %command%
The micro-freezes went away ONLY with proton 7.0-6. Older & newer protons (GE 8-4 included) did not fix.
Works well with the exception of some cutscenes not playing or playing with no audio.
Some issues with some cutscenes not working correctly
The game runs poorly on the Steam Deck and lowering settings doesn't do much, since they barely have an effect on the graphical fidelity and simply don't go down far enough. The game barely manages to crack 30 fps at the start of missions, and the more units are involved, the worse the performance gets. When you have regular sized squads fighting each other (which is most of the time), the game frequently drops to around 15 to 20 fps.
The game itself essentially works and it even has built-in (albeit kind of clunky) controller support, but the performance is so bad on all Proton versions and the settings are so ineffective that I'd stay away from it on the Deck.

If you want the cut scenes to work in between campaign missions, you need to use the launch parameter.
Besides that, no issues! I've been playing co-op with a friend on Windows. Just add them to your party before you start a campaign mission.
WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER=1 %command%
got audio for cut scenes but not video
tried experimental (on 2022-10-03) and 7.0-4. despite other comments still needed the launch option to get cut scene video to play. after that everything was perfect. did not try glorious eggroll so maybe that works?

WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER=1 %command%
Gameplay is totally fine!
The WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER=1 environment variable is only needed to get the videos working without distortions. (Proton-GE / GloriousEggroll not needed anymore)
Proton >= 7.0-3 will be needed for the videos to work too (with older Proton versions the game gets totally stuck when trying to play videos). But Steam currently (2022-06-21) picks Proton-Experimental by default, so no extra setting needed for this.
There's only one problem left when playing videos. It seems like the audio language is being picked randomly. Sometimes it's English, sometimes German, sometimes Polish, ...
See the Proton issue for details.
The game runs good out of the box, but only with Proton 6.3-8. With Proton 7.0-1 the cinematics don't work.
Smooth gameplay without any issues, friends or randoms.
Just download and play.
Using Proton 7.0 I experienced color separation during the cut scenes. The screen was split in to what looked like interlacing for moving video but the text came up fine

Proton-7.0rc3-GE-1 GloriousEggroll

Black Screen on Startup
Cutscenes start, but in different language

Works perfectly fine with all cutscenes with Proton 6.21-GE-2. On 6.3-8 some missing cut-scenes
Proton 6.21-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Proton 6.21-GE-2

It's important to use Proton-6.21-GE-2.tar.gz else the game will show a black screen in the cinematics.
Installation: https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/blob/6.21-GE-2/README.md#installation
No other modifications or start parameters needed.

To get the cutscenes to work use Proton-6.19-GE-2 https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/6.19-GE-2.

Everything seems to work on Proton 6.3 and latest game update.
Videos work out of the box. Improvement boost from earlier ~100 FPS to currently ~ 130 FPS. All in all impressive improvement with latest update.

Once the campaign bugs are fixed along with the minor graphical hitches, and tears. They could easily play this with minimal issues.
Occasionally you cant tab out of the game, but most of the time it works fine. Secondly if you tab out alot, such as to veiw a web browser, it will occasionally lock the game up and crash it.
Occasionally/often will have frame rate dips and slight tearing, but still able to run graphics settings on high, few issues.
When first tested on proton 5.3 you couldn't play the campaign, cant progress. It still seems to be an issue that persists, even on the experimental branch.

Complete freezes up around 1 min into playing the prerendered cut scenes (Proton-6.5-GE-2). Esc from the cutscene is not possible.
Audio is sometimes in English and sometimes in native languages even though I have explicitly turn native audio off
Game freezes completely after roughly 1 min into playing pre rendered cutscenes. Using Proton-6.5-GE-2 does not remedy the issue. Escape does not exit the cutscene (even when pressed before the freeze)

6.5-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Proton 6.5-GE-2 to make cut scenes work

Not able to get it to work
Tried running the game out of the box with all versions of Steam Proton but could not get past a black screen on start up. Most versions it did not even start. The "play" button went to "running" and then again to "Play" in a matter of seconds. Even tried different GEggroll Proton versions (newest version as well as 5.21-GE-1 and 5.11-3 MF).
Runs a few fps slower but over all good.
low FPS for a game that doesn't look so demanding, I have better performance out of some more graphically demanding games
In campaign mod game crash to black screen as soon as it loads a cinematic.
Tried to load the game with proton GE, the cinematic load and play for 30 seconds then the game crash.
It gets stuck on loading and can not get to the main menu tried multiple proton versions including Proton-5.21-GE-1
As said, issue with cinematics a bit annoying, but nothing game breaking. Just had to alt-tab youtube between two missions.
Cutscenes freeze randomly and I have to hit escape to continue the campaign, even with Proton 5.21-GE-1 for me, not a major issue as all cinematics are available on youtube but a bit annoying.
I had to replace Steam's Proton (5.13-2) with Proton-5.21-GE-1 (https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom) which contains the Wine MFplat (Media Foundation) improvements by Guy1524 needed to play the cutscenes. If you are on a Arch distro do not use the AUR packages which install system wide it currently does not work - https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-runtime/issues/302

Even with prime-run
the game would prefer the Intel GPU over my NVIDIA card until I set DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="GeForce"
https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/blob/master/README.md#device-filter
With the device filter everything works as expected.

5.9-GE-8-ST GloriousEggroll
The game works out-of-the-box.
The only minor issue I've experienced are the cutscenes between missions. They play for about a minute and freeze after. Pressing Escape will skip a cutscene and the next level will just continue loading, so you can still play through the campaign without major issues.

5.11-GE-3-MF GloriousEggroll
Proton GE 5.11 (bundles Media Foundation) fixes black cutscenes
It just works™. No config changes or anything necessary. Runs out of the box.
Going to cutscenes between maps, it would remain on a black screen until I pressed Escape.
Cutscenes after Campaign missions won't play - all that shows is a black screen that you can skip by pressing escape. No biggie, can just watch them on Youtube. The game itself runs perfectly!
