The skaven were no match. Worked out of the box

MANGOHUD=1 DXVK_FRAME_RATE=120 gamemoderun %command%
Frame rates lower than expected given the age of the game. Still very playable.
Pretty much works as on windows.

Game crash after pressing "Start" in the launcher.
Game not working.

Pretty good out the box--running it with the launcher first sets the graphics to low. 60 FPS locked. On low it's pretty enjoyable. Opted for this over Vermitide 2 because of Deck performance and can say I'm happy.

Limit TDP to 8W in handheld mode, 12W in docked mode at 1080p will be sufficient
At a resolution of 1280800 in portable mode, the subtitle text is quite small. In docked mode, when playing at a higher resolution (for example 19201080), the text becomes readable
Even though the game is networked and uses an anti-cheat, it runs very well on the Steam Deck (and therefore Linux PC) via Proton!
WINEDLLOVERRIDES='dinput8.dll=n,b' gamemoderun %command%

The game works fine out of the box, for a better experience I used the quality of life mod.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES='dinput8.dll=n,b' gamemoderun %command%
Some graphic stuff aren't on the game settings so I changed some variables on the .cfg file
sounds can crackle from time to time with low framerate on some systems
The game works fine with some framedrops during gameplay to 45fps, I don't remember if that happened too on windows since it was long ago.
Multiplayer works fine, both hosting and joining games from friends using windows
As far as I know the game works exactly as on windows, I added the quality of life mod because vanilla bots on nightmare/cataclysm difficulty are very very dumb ( https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1090355288 )

Doesn't launch
Doesn't launch on my machine, tried different proton versions (7.0-6, 8.0-4, experimental) with and without the launcher, with and without DLCs. Some times it fails with an error 'Access violation (0x00000005) in build (no build identifier) accessing address 00000240 from 004C5A9E

Some models texture seemed very weird - unsure if it's meant to be like that.
Runs very well, no tinkering.

gamemoderun WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command%
The game runs a little bit rough at times (40-80 FPS during regular gameplay). I never played it on Windows so I don't know if it's just a poorly optimized game or not. The quality of life modpack does work, you just have to add this launch option to the game through Steam: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command%
Runs great, but the bots are really stupid (better in Vermintide 2). The community modpack doesn't work on Linux, only the workshop does.
Most of the text in the game is really small and hard to read
The graphical settings are set to lowest on first start, but Steam Deck easily handles higher settings
Starts good (played campaign missions with bots)
Played with Proton 7.0-4.
Runs perfectly. Better than on Windows, which always had a degree of input lag for me. Never seen it so smooth!
DXVK_ASYNC=1 gamemoderun %command%
Games sure run better when you remember to have your Compositor disabled while they're running. All issues in the previous review were caused as I didn't have Gamemode set to disable it. I am a dumb.
Performance awful on significantly better than required hardware. Stutters and constant low frames.
gamemoderun DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
40FPS in just the starting rooms of the first map. Constantly bad frame pacing and stutters.
Even with DXVK ASYNC to avoid shader stutters, the game will just drop to 40fps in general in some rooms for no reason. Even when it finally runs at 60, the awful frame pacing is difficult to bear.
Decent experience after messing around with the graphics settings. Multiplayer works flawlessly.
Reduced refresh rate to 40
Default Proton causes the game's launcher to get stuck. Either use GE (instant fix) or pick the "run without Launcher" option.

Playing in window mode, that could not be sized to full screen to avoid freeze when Alt-Tab is pressed
Long loading times
7.0-rc6-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
If I did not disable Fsync, I get constant crashes, making the game unplayable (I was lucky to get trough one map, which means no progress will be saved). With FSync disabled, I've had one crash so far, and it was while loading into the inn (so not in-play, no progress was lost). I've played for a few hours with no crashes.
7.6-rc6-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Crfashes ~every 30 minutes. Non-playable. Launcher does not work.
Launcher does not work, game needs to be started without it (TBH I somehow did manage to run the launcher a few times, but it usually hangs when one clicks something on it).
I have tried other (also non-GE) proton versions, but didn't find a stable configuration so far.
Game would crash before hitting the main menu
Strange slowdown, like the game was occasionally going in slow motion

Playing the game is pointless unless you can make it through a whole map without crashing.
Game doesn't allow for saving during a run.
Crash after 30 minutes. If you are the server all progess is lost for everyone.
generally works
crashs after about 0.5 hours, sadly in-misson (sometimes I can quickly rejoin)
since it crashes for me: inital loading takes forever - even while installed on fast SSD
sadly it just crashes for me after a time (0.5-1h), coupled with long loading time - is frustrating

6.21-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Even if the slowdown due to CPU usage is smaller than on default proton, it's still present.
You will still need to watch the intro cutscene for the lobby to load, otherwise you'll be stuck in an infinite loading screen.
Despite the notes on the game's intro and gameplay, it works pretty well. Can be enjoyed as long as you have those in mind.
Sometimes the game uses a lot of cpu during gameplay and that results in a framerate that is much lower than the average for the session, but that could be an engine issue.
While the game generally works fine, you are required to watch the entire intro video for the lobby to load.
Runs well on medium graphics settings.
Lower than expected graphics settings.

Seems to also occur on windows systems; just a note
Although most reports recommend running the game without the launcher, personally it actually ran better with it.
Proton-6.18-GE-2
When applying new resolution the game would not register clicks from mouse one. This is fixed by Alt-Tab out and then into the game again.
I can't get more than 10fps if I set a resolution above 1600x900, but works great with that and below. Use Proton GE for best performance. Here is my benchmarking:
- 1600x900 resolution
- All graphics setting at the highest option, except:
- Anti-aliasing: FXAA
- MotionBlur: Off
- Depth of Field: Off
This setup yields:
- 67fps Proton-6.18-GE
- 55fps Proton Experimental
- 50fps Proton 6.3-7

"Play Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide" failed to start, hanged 5 minutes then manually closed it. "Run without Launcher" works well.
"Run without Launcher" works well but is not officially supported. 80% of users will pick the first option and think this game is broken. Most new users will be very angry with this.
some stuttering
With Proton 6.9-GE-2 it looks like running smoother.

Well the game can be fun... but many issues
Sky broken, light flickering in many areas
selected fullscreen by editing config file
1280x720, textures high, everything else disabled or low setting otherwise stuttering in heavy combat
have to see the intro movie up to the end, if skipped lobby not loading

Proton-5.9-GE-5-ST GloriousEggroll
GloriousEggroll (probably not needed, base proton 5.9 should be fine)
Slight flickering on some water which is barely noticeable and doesn't impact gameplay.

Run parameters for integrated AMD and discrete NVIDIA: __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __VK_LAYER_NV_optimus=NVIDIA_only PROTON_USE_WINED3=1 %command%
Getting ~23 FPS on a high end machine. Many screen freezes. I would consider unplayable
I had to run the game without the launcher, and can't Alt-Tab outside the game unless the game is windowed. Flawless apart from that.
Runs well. Good multiplayer experience. Mods work too.
Was able to start the game with and without the launcher. In launcher the settings option does not seem to work. Played the game on Win 7 some time ago, experience with same settings running it on Manjaro was pretty much the same. Very rare hiccups, freezing and crashes.
About Mods: There is a QoL Modpack wich doesent seem to work on Linux.
But there is a way to enable steam workshop and use Mods. Guide here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2410440667
I found the mentioned launcher.config file here: /home/USER/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/235540/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Application Data/Fatshark/Warhammer End Times Vermintide/
