Played with the Ghost Master Complete Edition Mod for widescreen, higher display resolutions and bug fixes
Input would not work if displayed on a secondary display
Slow down using the basic game. This is known issue since release.
Standard bugs in the basic game. Most fixed using the Complete Edition mod
The game "works" as it did with the original release OS and hardware, however there are engine related bugs which cause slow downs. The game is also restricted to 4:3 resolutions.
These issues can be resolved by installing the Ghost Master: Complete Edition mod which fixes many bugs, improves general support, restores cut content, adds further modding as well as allow higher widescreen compatible resolutions.
Игра запустилась без проблем из коробки. Не потребовалось менять ничего. Только ролики не воспроизводятся, но их можно пропустить

It took a long time, but now it works out-of-the-box :)
Thanks to D8VK. But it is only really good from version GE-Proton9-5
Have fun!

Game is 4:3 but window is full screen
Mouse isn't locked into game, goes onto other monitor
Videos are broken, there is one frame displayed every couple seconds
Latest proton-ge fixes misalignment of window and mouse that was present in wine-ge while playing gog version via heroic.

gamescope -e -W 2560 -H 1440 -w 1024 -h 768 -f -F fsr --sharpness 5 -- %command%
Game only works properly if the screen size is 1024x768. You can either use a virtual desktop or gamescope (I would heavily recommend the latter).
If the screen size is not 1024x768, mouse inputs will not align with where the GUI components are situated. See above for fixes.
Graphical settings fail to save. Not sure if this is a game bug or a Proton/Wine bug.
Also needs a resolution fix, as outlined above. I recommend using gamescope, see my launch options (adjust -W 2560 and -H 1440 for your monitor's resolution, of course).

none
changed controls for better camera rotating
the tutorial dialog cut itself/ speed up
Game works out of the box. The intro cutscene doesnt work but can be skipped. Some better controll scheme is needed

protontricks 6200 vd=1024x768
Played with Proton 6.3-8 and protontricks 6200 vd=1024x768
Game stuck in its own resolution after running, I change my resolution first to a really low setting supported by the game before running it
People sometimes get scared, get an X on their picture and are stuck in the house. The game needs to be restarted then
All the resolution fixes didn't work for me
The main menu is garbled and the resolution is wrong

(GOG version) Works good for old game
Fullscreen only with aspect 4:3 (good 1280x1024).
Mouse pointer slightly miss game screen coords near right-down corner (coords scaling wrong).
Played GOG version with Proton 7.0-1.

Game starts using proton 5.0 and proton GE 6.21-GE-2
Game opens up very slowly using proton 5.0-10 , it opens up swiftly with proton GE version though. In both cases resolution is screwed up in main menu and mouse doesn't accurately click on things (have to go up and to the right and click on nothingness to open up certain tabs and change options)

Game works completely other than noticeable but minor graphical bug. Played more than a dozen hours, and I plan to play more.
Using fullscreen mode (4:3 aspect ratio) causes the left side of the screen to display either a white bar or graphics from the main menu instead of a black bar. Very noticable, but minor - doesn't affect any part of the screen not being drawn to, and doesn't appear to affect gameplay in any way. Game is otherwise fully playable with no serious bugs or glitches.
Some hex editing of a save file needed to get resolution working. Simple enough for the competent *nix user, not so for your standard gamer.
Resolution messed up on load, had to follow instructions to get it working perfectly on 1440p; https://www.wsgf.org/dr/ghost-master
To find save files go here (replace your username in path); /home//.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/compatdata/6200/pfx/drive_c/users/Public/Documents/Ghost Master/SaveGames
I had to use gamescope, without it the game is only rendering a window full of glitched graphics.
Again, gamescope had to be used
Cutscenes are slow, the game itself works fine

fails to load
A black screen flashes but no game comes up
I was able to enjoy a better frame rate using the nvidia driver 435 but all the issues happen with my current driver
sometimes the default mouse redraws the screen when the game performance is dropping, this dosent happen with the better mouse option enabled
mouse input is laggy when frames are low
frames drops a lot in some occasions specially at the start of a level and the initial cutscene is drawn 1 frame every cupple of secconds
The resolution of the menu is completely messed up, you can't even click on the new game button

you can get it to work... first you have to launch the game, then replace everything in the game folder/GhostData/SpDrv.cfg with https://steamcommunity.com/app/6200/discussions/0/613940109953381734/ whats here (for 1080p) and then launch the game try to navigate the broken menu to set the resolution to the highest possible setting and restart the game and now it works. (cutscenes only show 1 frame every few seconds so basically they are broken but the whole rest works fine)

Graphics problems .... Monitor resolution can not be set

Cutscenes stutter but the rest of the game seems to work fine but to get it running you will first need to do a lot of steps:
1.) If it isn't installed already install Wine.
2.) You will also need to create a new Steam library as the game for some reason doesn't start if it's installed in "/.local/share/steam".
3.) Install the game, start it in Steam and exit it by pressing ALT+F4 when the main menu appears (don't be afraid of the malformed window. It will be fixed after all steps are done).
4.) Open a terminal and configure the game's wineprefix with "WINEPREFIX=/[steam library in which you installed the game]/steamapps/compatdata/6200/pfx winecfg" without quotation marks.
5.) In winecfg go to graphics, uncheck the two "Allow the window manager"-options, check "Emulate a virtual desktop", set desktop size to your standard desktop-resolution (in my case 1920x1080), click Apply and click Ok.
4.)Start the game in Steam (The game will now appear in a window which might appear on the other monitor if you are using a 2nd monitor in Expand-mode. To get the game to run in fullscreen-mode on your main-monitor follow the next steps).
5.) In the game's main menu start a new game.
6.) When you are on the world-map showing the "Ghoul Room" and "Haunting 101" press ESC and click Exit Game.
7.) Back in the main menu click on Options->Display and set the resolution to 1600x1200 then click Accept and then exit the game with the exit-button in the main menu.
8.)Inside Steam rightclick on the game in your Library, select properties and click on "Browse Local Files".
9.) Go to GhostData and Open SpDrv.cfg with a text-editor (f.e. gedit).
10.) In the "MinW"- and "MaxW"-columns change all numbers to the width of your standard desktop-resolution (in my case 1920) and in the "MinH"- and "MaxH"-columns to the height of your standard desktop-resolution (in my case 1080) and save the file.
11.) Now start the game again in Steam and it should now start in fullscreen-mode and normally run on your main-monitor.

Malformed window.

Failed to start.

Needs virtual desktop with dimensions matching game settings. Defocusing virtual desktop will cause Ghost Master to stop registering mouse clicks.

The menu is shown, but the resolution is messed up. See https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/1583#issuecomment-478107125

Crashes after showing splash screens. It might need a 32-bit prefix. Haven't tested. https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/99e0kc/steam_playguide_create_custom_32bit_prefix_to/
