Absolutely excellent online experience.
Use a low latency kernel for even better responsiveness than normal.
Game won't launch at all with latest Proton Experimental unforunately
gamemoderun %command%
Gamepad can be tricky. For Dual Sense controller use this script -> https://github.com/yoyossef/ds360
Game plays flawlessly, the only setback is the command you have to use before launching Steam.
Type "sed -i 's/legacykeyregistrylocation/legacykeyregistrylocation2/g' ~/.steam/steam/appcache/appinfo.vdf" in terminal before launching Steam.
sed -i 's/legacykeyregistrylocation/legacykeyregistrylocation2/g' ~/.steam/steam/appcache/appinfo.vdf
Works PHENOMENALLY out of the box and it's an AMAZING game. Absolutely recommended.
The game ONLY works with Proton 5.0-10. Any other version of Proton will crash the game after a while.
Game works ONLY on Proton 5-10. Other Proton versions won't work. Apart from that, runs amazingly.
Games is borked due to .NET being used in Launcher.
Tried renaming the exes to bypass the launcher. Didn't work.
Tried installing .NET 4.62 and 4.8 through Protontricks. Also didn't work.
The game just works and runs flawlessly. A Platinum experience. :)
Works great out of the box with latest Proton even on an Optimus laptop. This should be Golden.
Platinum on day 1. 120 FPS stable throughout. An amazing experience and an even better Remaster/Remake hybrid.
Thanks to Square Enix for this masterpiece. :)
Just install and play. This should have a Platinum rating.
Game works out of the box even on Nvidia with Proton Experimental. Enemy weapons have no audio for some reason.
The game is borked since update 1.5. Patch 1.5.2 doesn't help either.
gamemoderun %command% --launcher-skip -skipStartScreen
Tried on 3 machines, all AMD all of them ( 1 - 5950X, 6800XT, 2 - 5900HX , 6800M, 3 - 4600H , 5500M). Tried all possible Audio fixes. The game simply flatlines. CDPR needs to take a serious look at this issue as it makes the game unplayable on Linux (at least on Pipewire). Hopefully the next patch will have a fix for this.
RADV_DEBUG=nodma gamemoderun %command% --launcher-skip -skipStartScreen
There is a bug in Mesa that makes the game crash on launch on a 6800M. Use RADV_DEBUG=nodma
to circumvent this until it's fixed.
This game is more than Platinum. Worked out of the box with 20-30% more performance than Windows.
Insanely better on Linux. Here is the benchmark -> https://youtu.be/zRkryYHAm9c
Just add PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command% as a launch option and you're good to go with maximum performance. :D
Plays almost flawlessly with 2X antialiasing (really important).
The game crashes when Alt-Tabbing out of it.
Consistent Crashes in certain points - Setting the antialiasing to 2X solved this.
You need to rename start_protected_game.exe
to start_protected_game.exe.bak
and then run ln -s eldenring.exe start_protected_game.exe
from the Game folder of the game to force offline mode until the anticheat issue is resolved which should be tommorow or Monday.
DS5 Controller needs the DS360 scirpt to be recognized as an XBox360 controller.
Game is amazing and works GREAT on Linux. Stable 60 FPS in 1440p Maximum graphics. Totalle recommended. :)
Have to use DS360 for DualSense Controller.-> https://github.com/yoyossef/ds360
EAC works like a charm with the latest update.
Latest Update fixes EAC issue! Game is now Platinum for me! :)
Some extremely minor Nvidia issues. The game is Platinum.
Ran at 5 FPS for the first 2 scenes in the intro, then stable 60 (in gameplay as well).
Download Proton GE 7.43 using ProtonUp-QT and select it in the game's Compatibility under Properties. Game works flawlessly after that.
Some minor Nvidia or FSR problems. The game is Platinum.
5 FPS in the first battle, after that stable 60 (in gameplay as well)
Platinum. The game just works. Tried the launcher both on Lutris and Steam and they just work.
If you have a Dual Sense Controller it needs ds360 found on Github.
For anyone wanting to play the new Free Trial, you will need the Lutris installer (the official one works just fine with lutris-ge - the one installed automatically). I had problems with my Dual Sense controller though. Steps to use with a Dual Sense are:
- Install
xboxdrv
(found in Garuda Gamer is you use Garuda) - Go and download this AMAZING tool (can't stress enough how many times it has saved me especially in Lutris games) ->
https://github.com/yoyossef/ds360
- I had to edit the
dualsense.xboxdrv
file and uncomment theevdev =
line (second written line in the file) - Run
make
andmake install
(you might need to create a directory it tells you and add it to your$PATH
or simply edit the Makefile and and make the prefix/usr
- you will need to runsudo make install
like that) - Run
ds360 &
and leave the terminal open - Launch the game and go to Controller Setting. You can now select an Xbox controller (in addition to your Dual Sense controller), do that and select ΧΟΔ + TrackPad (PS5) as the layout.
- Enjoy playing with a Dual Sense controller. :)
You have to use a custom launcher so you have to rename ffxivboot.exe
to ffxivboot.exe.bak
and rename the Setup.exe
of the Quick Launcher to ffxivboot.exe
The game works phenomenally if you get past the launcher.
These somewhat simple steps are required to get the game going.
- Set Proton version to Proton GE 6.21-2 (if you don't have that download it)
- Get the Setup.exe of the Quick Launcher for FF XIV from here ->
https://kamori.goats.dev/Proxy/Update/Release/Setup.exe
- Rename as mentioned above (the game files are usually located in
/home/<YOUR_USERNAME>/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/<GAME_NAME>
) - Set launch options of the game to
XL_NO_SPACE_REQUIREMENTS=true XL_WINEONLINUX=true DSSENG=n %command%
(This step is REALLY important) - Launch the game
- Wait 5-20 minutes (depending on your hardware) for it to do its thing. An error message wil pop up, just select No.
- Login, download and enjoy the game. :)
Not recommended for absolute noobs cause it requires a custom Proton version (which is amazingly easy to set up nonetheless).
Proton-5.2-GE-2 (https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/)
Just keep default settings and everything should be fine.
Not recommended for absolute noobs. Download the Proton-TKG version and put it in $HOME/.steam/root/compatibility.d/.
Proton GE wouldn't work on my machine so I installed the Proton-TKG version.
The game needs BOTH Mangohud and vkBasalt to be disabled on a 6800M otherwise it crashes after the splash screen.
WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 ENABLE_VKBASALT=0 MANGOHUD=0 gamemoderun %command%
Performance is about 10% lower than Windows which means about 5 FPS less if you're playing on Extreme Preset.
SteamDeck=1 gamescope -W 3560 -H 1440 --hdr-enabled -f -e -- %command%
Sony is a mess. If you launch with Gamescope and SteamDeck=1
launch arg then the game launches and opens a browser to connect your Steam account to your PSN account. But personally I couldn't log in to PSN on PC, I could on mobile though. So I just copied the URL of the window that opened to my mobile using KDE Connect and was able to connect the accounts.
Game works FLAWLESSLY after that. Even HDR work phenomenally with gamescope and controller works as well properly. I haven't tried M&K but I heard there were issues with that even on Windows.
Sony seriously needs to look into making the accounts connection process more straightforward and robust on PC. Beyond that, I can't wait to get into the game! :)
Game works on AMD with a patched version of Mesa which is available out of the box on Nobara Linux.
The tutorial won't work for some reason.
Should be playble to the rest with the next Mesa release and Proton Experimental Bleeding Edge.
Game works on AMD with a patched version of Mesa available out of the box on Nobara Linux.
The Tutorial won't work for some reason.
Game works phenomenally online, just like on Windows.
Video files should be deleted for the game to start.
Game runs flawlessly. Up to 800 FPS at times which is insane.
When (and if) EAC is enabled, this game will be absolutely Platinum.
The Audio has serious issues. The game is very playable but I wouldn't call it enjoyable.
70+ FPS on an i7-10870H and 3080 Max-Q which is as good performance as its predecessor. In general the game seems amazing but I have some serious audio issues which stop me from advancing further at the moment.
Previous report was using Proton Experimental. With Proton Hotfix game works flawlessly at 70+ FPS (3080 Max-Q GPU)
The game requires some heavy tweaking to be successfully launched and even then it crashes sometimes. Only for hardcore fans.
Build latest proton-tkg
.
Build vkd3d-proton
to .dll.
Copy the vkd3d-proton
.dlls to the proton-tkg folder in $HOME/.steam/root/compatibilitytools.d/proton_tkg/dist/lib64/wine/vkd3d-proton
folder.
Copy two .dlls by opening a terminal in $HOME/.steam/root/steamapps/common/Horizon Zero Dawn
and issuing the following commands:
cp ./Tools/ShaderCompiler/PC/10.0.18362.0/x64/d3dcompiler_47.dll .
cp ./Tools/ShaderCompiler/PC/1.0.2595/x64/dxcompiler.dll .
Use protontricks --gui
and select the Horizon Zero Dawn prefix->Select Default Prefix->Run winecfg and add in Libraries both d3d12.dll
and libvkd3d-utils.dll
.
Massive Vertex Explosions on AMD
See my previous to see how to set up the game. No more graphical issues on AMD with the very latest drivers (`mesa-git` on AUR).
See my previous post
RADV_DEBUG=nodma gamemoderun %command%
You need to add clocksource=tsc tsc=reliable
to your kernel boot parameters or the game will have the slow motion bug if you use another clocksource. After that the game pumps out 90 FPS on 1080p Ultra.
Cutscenes are doubled in size.
Games work out of the box but cutscenes are doubled in size.
ENABLE_VKBASALT=0 MANGOHUD=0 gamescope -w 1920 -h 1080 -W 1920 -H 1080 -f -- env ENABLE_VKBASALT=1 MANGOHUD=1 %command%
Gamescope makes the game work perfectly. Totally recommended! :)
The game crashes frequently during loading screens. Also the lack of RT Support on Linux is becoming an issue as more and more games use it.
Ray Tracing is not working on AMD
The game crashed after 2 loading screens in less than an hour.
Tried every possible solution mentioned here. The game won't launch or is not installable (through Lutris Origin for example).
I recommend waiting before buying this on Steam at least.
Game works out of the box with Proton 6.3 or Proton Experimental. This is now a Platinum game.
To save you some time run the protontricks command and the chmod command mentioned below.**USE Proton 5.0-10**
protontricks 1238000 wininet winhttp
Game works out of the box. 60 FPS locked on 4K Ultra with a reference RX 6800XT.
Single player works phenomenally. Multiplayer still doesn't work unfortunately cause of BattlEye.
Everything works spectacularly now, even multiplayer. The game is Platinum.
Multiplayer now works with Proton 6.3-8rc1
The game was solely tested on NVK (the new upcoming open source Nvidia driver) and worked beautifully. It also is awesome! Absolutely recommended! :)
protontricks 1113000 lavfilters wmp9 quartz devenum
You have to use this for videos to work:
protontricks 1113000 lavfilters wmp9 quartz devenum
Absolutely 10/10 game and Platinum. Not into FPS and I'm buying anything I can. Had a blast. :)
Games work out of the box with BattlEye.
%command% --disable-gpu
is needed to properly render the launcher.
The need for the mf-install makes this prohibitive for casual PC users. Other than that the game runs flawlessly.
You need the mf-install script to progress after the gas station. Something that makes the game not recommended for noobs.
I had the settings on High from a previous install and I got heavy graphical glitches (almost all meshes were missing and I couldn't progress through the game). If that's the case revert all settings to default, exit to the Start Screen, restart your save and everything should work just fine. You can also put settings back to High and everything will work like a charm. On my RX 560 with ACO I get 25-30 FPS on High.
The game runs like trash. I get 23 FPS when in Cybeprunk in Psycho I get 37.
Crashed in the Intro, the only thing that works reliably are the benchmarks.
Trash port. Don't buy it. I know this isn't a review site but this is truly that level of bad. The game works better than in Windows and it's still unplayable with everything maxed out on a 3080 Laptop GPU. Launch options on an Optimus laptop:
PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=1 PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 __NVIDIA_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 VK_ICD_FILENAMES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/nvidia_icd.json gamemoderun %command% -vulkan -borderless -height 1080 -width 1920 -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -adapter 1 -cpuLoadRebalancing -ignorepipelinecach
Sometimes the game will crash but it's playable.
At first I thought that the port was completely borken. But it turns out if you turn MSAA off in the settings things REALLY pick up. Lauch options on Linux:
PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=1 PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 __NVIDIA_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 VK_ICD_FILENAMES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/nvidia_icd.json gamemoderun %command% -dx12 -borderless -height 1080 -width 1920 -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -adapter 1 -cpuLoadRebalancing -ignorepipelinecach
Absolutely phenomenal.
250 FPS in 1440p Max Settings in the initial sequence. 130 - 230 FPS in the city. Ridiculous, if you check Windows benchmarks the game runs much better on Linux.
Games works very well. Some stuttering here and there but completely enjoyable in 4K Ultra with Reshade.
Linux gaming has become unstoppable. There should be a more than Platinum rating now for games that work better than Windows.
70 FPS in 1440p Ultra with 200 Resolution Scaling. More than Windows. Enough said. The game works out oft he box as well.
Borked for me. Just opens and crashes immediately
The game needs a command to run but after that it works flawlessly. It also seems like a fun game.
protontricks 504110 vd=1920x1080
The game works phenomenally with Proton BattlEye Runtime installed. Thank you Valve! :)
The game requires ytou have Proton BattlEye Runtime installed on your system. Runs great after that.
Games works with Boxtron flawlessly. You can select Boxtron just like any other Proton version once you install it.
Boxtron
Game works out of the box on Modded Realm.
Game runs out of the box. Performance is good. About 10% slower on DXVK vs DX11 and about 20% slower on VKD3D vs DX12. Use a low latency kernel for an even better experience than Windows. Here's my benchmark -> https://youtu.be/r7-GcD6PbX4
Games works with EAC out of the box with Proton Experimental. Flawless Experience.
