Random NPCs that you may talk to; don't have any voice lines. You can see the mouth move but no actual dialogue happens. Its not too bad since you can just read the subtitles. Everyone's dialogue from the main story you can hear perfectly, including NPCs you have to talk to.
Without the gamemoderun %command%
option the game stuttered horribly. I haven't tried gamemode with proton non GE.
Note: For anyone who may not know, gamemode is something you need to download seperately for most Linux Distros. You can get it here: https://github.com/FeralInteractive/gamemode if it is not inlcuded in your package manager.
Works perfectly.
No problems playing with 4 people.
I had literally no problems playing the game. Even with multiple people.
Playable if you can put up with the constant stuttering.
Stuttering for 2-3 seconds anytime the camera has to move to a new shot.
It honestly just depends if you can put up with the stuttering. It did stutter during some Quick Time Events, which was a pain; however it never actually prevented me from doing them.
Honestly I personally cannot play like this, but maybe you can.
Amazing game, amazing performance.
Works almost flawlessly
Slight lag spike when loading into new areas. Bare in mind this could just be because I'm playing off a HDD.
If you are crashing at 9%, please try the following to see if it helps. 1) Manually install 'openxr' from your package manager. I use pacman so for me I did "sudo pacman -S openxr". 2) Set Proton version to 6.3-8, you can use 5.13-6 however I had a weird issue where it rendered everything in a way that made it seem like I was looking at the game while cross-eyed. 3) Don't start the game by pressing the 'Play' button on Steam; load into SteamVR and open it through the interface there. 4) [optional] - If you still have issues, do everything here the same but run the "Update 10.2" version instead. You can do this by Right Clicking on Blade & Sourcery in your library -> Properties -> Betas -> Beta Participation and select the "previousversion_u10 - Update 10.2" in the drop down list. I have managed to get around the Unity crashes on the latest version, but some people do say this works if nothing else does.
I played in 3440x1440 with a solid 60FPS. The only issue is when you first load into a map it lags as it is rendering in all of the assets.
I was able to play through the campaign with a friend with no issues.
gamemoderun %command%
Textures on a few things, such as: bottles, teddy bears, pack-a-punched weapons, perk bottles and clothing on some special zombies were bright white. It was very distracting, but doesn't actually stop you from playing the game.
Note: I was experiencing a few less frames on the default protons; hence why I am using GloriousEggroll.
However these were minimal frame drops of 5ish frames.
Works flawlessly.
Note: I haven't tried RayTracing in the game, so can't speak on the performance there.
It works amazingly with or without proton. Honestly I cannot see a difference.
No problems at all.
I have played for over 69 hours, as of writing this. The game runs flawlessly in 3440x1440p and in windowed borderless.
A few little bugs and crashing, but honestly didn't effect my fun.
In one cutscene the dialogue cut out for a few sentences then came right back. Also in the beginning of the game when Pox is giving you the intoduction to his workshop, for some reason he just started speaking german? Then never did it again.
These are barely audio issues, as they didn't effect the game at all really. It was a one off thing that may not even be an issue with proton, but I left here it to be safe.
Over the 7ish hours of playing, I've probably had 4 or 5 crashes. I'm sure you can fix this with GE and a few tweaks, but it really isnt a major issue since the games autosaves are really reliable.
gamemoderun %command%
Just had my first crash, going by the first game I'd assume there will be more; but I doubt many.
Note: Without Proton GE or gamemode I experienced stuttering. This is just my experience, I would always recommend people start with no tweaks to the game to gauge what tweaks they need.
Works amazingly, I had no problems.
After changing the setting in the menu, I could play 60FPS with no stutters, crashes or lag.
DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% +com_showLoadingScreen 0
(Thanks to Folgrim for the command)
https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/6.9-GE-2
With Proton 6.3-4 I had constant stutters.
Using the custom proton above, and the launcher command, the game works amazingly. I personally still get a few frame drops when it loads assets, but I'm sure that is just my GPU
Fullscreen crashed my game. I haven't seen anyone else with this problem yet, so it may just be something on my end.
When switching to fullscreen the game would crash.
Also the game stutters and drops frames when loading in assets, as mentioned previously.
This probably wont be the case for you, however I am adding it just in case.
I am confident you could play the entire game using Proton without any hiccups.
When clsoing the game using the 'Quit to Desktop' option in the main menu; you see flashes of black and your desktop. Trying to ALT+TAB to a terminal to terminate the game process is futile.
However after a few seconds it does close down properly.
Works perfectly in 3440x1440p quality. The only reason that I barely have any time in it, is because it hurts my brain to figure out haha
For some reason the radio stations only play the first 10-20 seconds of a song, they then move on to the 'DJ' typical dialogue. I do not recall seeing this on windows, however I can not be certain.
Alt + Tab will crash the game, and if you're unlucky tabbing back will leave just a huge black screen that you have to xkill out of.
Navigating main menus, such as the ESC menu and the Main Title Screen Menu the mouse has insane acceleration. This was also a problem on windows, however you can fix this issue on there.
When transitioning from area to area, your game can lock up with an infinite load screen or it can even just outright crash to desktop. Quite annoying on survival difficulties. I never had this type of crash on windows.
Note: There used to be a pretty big bug where the ground, along with some other textures, wouldn't render. This has been fixed now.
If you have the same problems as me, I am confident you could play with a gamepad; however I would rather use keyboard and mouse.
I have tried using GE, normal proton versions and even changed the settings.json file for the game.
Significant lag when windowed bordlerless, and windowed mode.
Anytime I would move the mouse, a huge "lag" spike would happen. I tried playing with a controller and the problem stopped; no lag spike when looking around.
I am confident I could play the game with the controller, however I really don't want to.
It seems like my problem is rare, I would assume my hardware or mouse is going; but I can play any other games as usual. I tried fixing my issue however couldn't find a solution that woked for me.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Played with a group of mates, since matchmaking will get you nowhere.
Note: The game is dead, so trying to find a match is practically impossible. The only way you can play is with a group of mates.
It works flawlessly.
Works exactly like Windows.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES=”xaudio2_7=n,b” DXVK_ASYNC=1
Could not play in 3440x1440 even when the option was there. It played in 2560x1440
Would freeze for 2 seconds everytime the camera went to another shot. You can fix this by using the launch options listed above.
Absolutely no problems playing it.
I played in 3440x1440 with no FPS drops compared to Windows.
gamemoderun %command%
Note: Some stuttering happened, hence why I use gamemode. You may not need it depending on your hardware / storage.
Played over 4 hours and haven't experienced a problem
gamemoderun %command%
This game WILL NOT work on Linux using Proton. This is because of the Easy-Anticheat not yet supporting Linux systems.
I use a KVM to play anticheat games on Linux, but I am aware not everyone can be bothered with that.
You can't play multiplayer, in a game made for playing multiplayer.
Everything works fine, you get as far as choosing your champion; you even load into the game for a few seconds. Then the Easy Anti Cheat kicks you from the game.
Multiplayer is not an option here.
Note: Anything that doesn't require you to connect to a server you can do fine and the performance is on par with Windows.
After around 1 hour in the same mission, the music stops playing. Not sure if that's a game issue or a Proton one.
A few things you NEED TO KNOW: Some people will have a problem with Unity crashing instantly, I fixed this by installing 'openxr' from my package manager (sudo pacman -S openxr). Steam supposedly "installs" this for you when you download SteamVR, but it still fixed it in my case. It seems like a LOT of Unity games have this OpenXR issue, so see if it works for you too. Secondly this DOES NOT work with the '-openvr' launch option. Please remove it if you have it. The only way I got this game running is by opening SteamVR and selecting the game from there, but you can also just open it from your PC after SteamVR is up and running.
I hope this helps some play this game, because it's fun as hell.
Once you've done the tweaks, game runs lovely.
Fullscreen and Windowed Borderless are fine and work great but windowed mode has significant FPS drops.
ALT+TAB crashes game.
The game refused to open after my first ALT+TAB crash, this was fixed by deleting settings.ini, Settings.sav and settings.bak from the Rage 2, Rage 2/Saves and Rage 2/Saves/Backup folders located at your/steam/directory/SteamLibary/steamapps/compatdata/548570/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Saved Games/id Software/Rage 2/ as well as the CrashRpt and id Software folders located at your/steam/directory/SteamLibary/steamapps/compatdata/548570/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Local Setings/Application Data
Anytime I would attempt to leave the TAB menu, the game would freeze. This can be fixed by setting VSync to On.
Note: if you are still experiencing issues, you may want to use winecfg on the bottle and change Windows 10 to Windows 7 and that may remedy the issue. I've also seen that setting AsyncComputeDisable to 1 in the settings.ini
-PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 -USEALLAVAILABLECORES
Works amazingly even with mods. However to get them working needs a little tweaking.
Also you cannot use Lenny's Mod Manager, however can still use Lenny's Mod Loader; and if you want to enable/disable any mods or change load order you can do that by modifying the 'mods.xml' file manually.
DXVK_HUD=1 %command% gamemoderun %command%
You have to force the game to use Vulkan to get stable frame rates. Then setup the 'dxvk.conf' file to force the game to be capped at 60FPS max. This allows for smoother performance.
I've created a script you can run, that fixes these issues and resolution issues find it here: https://github.com/dontna/SaintsRow2-Proton-Fixer
After applying the fixes mentioned previously, it still drops frames here and there. It isn't anything big enought to stop me playing though.
The game crashes no matter what you do to it, so I recommend saving often.
Note: There is an on-going patch being worked on by a handful of people over at Volition. This report was made prior to that happening. Just keep note of that.
The only reason this classes as a "Tinker Report" is because I force all of my games to use Proton Experimental by default.
You can run this game perfectly on the latest Proton version 8.0-2
Zero problems playing, and no noticable performance differnence compared to Windows.
DXVK_ASYNC=1
After you open the game for the first time, it will notify you that you have a corrupted save game; even before you've played the actual game.
This will make it so anytime you goto the main menu it tells you, your save has been corrupted; don't worry though your actual save game is fine.
Some stuttering whilst playing on the normal Proton versions. Switching to GE and setting DXVK_ASYNC=1
in the Launch Options fixed it for me.
Random crashes. They don't seem to occur often.
It just works.
Note: I haven't tried using mods personally; so cannot speak to how many hoops you have to jump through to get them working.
No difference seen compared to playing on Windows.
Note: You can get mods and SKSE running, however you do need to know how to tinker with Wine. If you can't just use the in game mods page to download mods and they should work.
Works flawlessly out of the box, finished all endings with no crashing or hiccups.
FPS drops upwards of 30FPS whenever the game loaded in assets. No matter the resolution or texture settings.
Note: This MAY just be becuase I am running off a HDD. Results may vary.
Not played for long, however I saw no huge issues.
Note: There is some stutters, however they have all been minor.
Texture Streaming Fix: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2835519164
You can play this without using GE, however I had less FPS when I did. (only a 5 or 6 frame loss)
Works flawlessly out of the box
I also connected to multiplayer a few days ago, and it worked really well.
gamemoderun %command%
This is just VRChat in general, but I couldn't get it working in a fullscreen in Proton.
