LD_PRELOAD="" %command%
Game works out of the box with 9.0-4, but stuttering appears after about 30 minutes of gameplay. Setting launch options to LD_PRELOAD="" %command% prevents it.
The problems seems to be the same as the open issue #11446 on the ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux github repo, and it's related to the new screen recording feature.

As long as you're okay with restarting it once the stuttering occurs, it's playable out-of-the-box with 9.0.4
As others reported, the game starts stuttering after 30-60 minutes of gameplay, until it's restarted. Reducing graphics or changing Vsync doesn't fix it. I played a lot on update 36 and this problem didn't occur back then. It might have been introduced by 37 or 38. I tried with 9.0.4 and GE-Proton9-26 and the same problem occurs.

it feels like rolling a dice whether or not you're going to experience issues with this game
althought set to fullscreen by default, the default resolution was set to 1280x720, instead of my monitor's resolution (1920x1080), causing the game to look really blurry, still don't think I've managed to quite fix it
only by switching to medium graphics I could get the game to run on a stable framerate
a previous report was not exaggerating, once the game crashed so hard it crashed steam with it

Requires an Xbox account, but the game works fine
The game requires an Xbox account, which is unfortunate. But once you get that setup, everything should work as expected. I played both the campaign and the Daybreak modes on singleplayer and multiplayer and had no issues.
Steam Deck Oled, Spiel installiert, gestartet crash nach Microsoft Intro, alle Proton versionen getestet kein erfolg.
Game crashes so hard that steam crashes with it

WINEPREFIX=/ssd2t/SteamLibrary/steam/steamapps/compatdata/495420/pfx winetricks d3dcompiler_47
installed d3dcompiler_47
after 30mins of playing major stuttering occurs that will not go away until game is restarted. Enabling Vsync seemed to fix this.
Multiplayer does not work
Initial problems when connecting to Xbox Live so tried a bunch of stuff in a previous report but found moving to an older proton version worked. Tried playing multiplayer with a friend the game wouldnt let me send out an invite (they never were recieved) when I tried to join from an invite my game would just crash.

Crashes after Microsoft Studio logo on boot.
Won't boot with any proton version. Suggested launch arguments don't work, and suggested dll installs don't work.

Unable to connect to Xbox Live
Tried installing most wine dll's using both wintricks and protontricks on both GE-9-21 and Experimental with no success. Lutris did not have an install script when I tried installing from there.
Game installed and launched fine got to set my gamma. The next screen after gamma gives the error "The game is unable to connect to Xbox Live and there is no offline profile available. Please restart the game with an active internet connection and sign in to Xbox Live to enable offline play." I tried changing the /etc/hosts file as mentioned in another report as well as adding libEGL.dll and libGLESv2.dll also mentioned by another report but had no sucess. I tried both of these on Experimental, GE-9-21, and 8.0-5. I've seen posts mentioning that this happend for them as well but there was no fixes that I could find. I suspect that an update has broken the sign in process to link a steam and microsoft account so players that have already linked their accounts do not encounter this issue. If anyone finds a fix for this I would love to be updated.

Even though I've just remembered why I didn't like the game - the experience playing it on LInux were perfect!

capped to 45 fps. low graphics settings.

Игра идиально работает прямо из коробки ! Никаких Багов и глюков за 20 часов игры замечено небыло)
Использовал Proton 9.0-3
It works perfectly without any changes.
Upon start of the game, the window is cropped to the left of the window. Once the startup logos are over, and you're at the main menu, pressing Alt+Enter to force the game into windowed mode fixes this, and then you can go into the options to set your perferred mode.

Can be difficult to read depending on vision, but fine
May require a Microsoft Live Account for saves, but certainly for logging in. Can be played offline.
Other than the Microsoft Live Account requirement, it runs extremely well. FPS lowers only when loading in high density buildings near active bases (usually only as low as 45-55 for a moment w/ buildings).
Login failed error message solved by changing /etc/hosts file
When I first started the game, despite having an internet connection, I got an error saying that login failed, the game is unable to connect to Xbox Live, and that I should restart the game with an active internet connection. It was not possible to move past this message to start the game, I wasn't able to play even single player.
After some investigating, this was because the game was looking up wpad.localdomain
(Web Proxy Auto Detection), but my DNS server was not sending a response, causing a timeout. This was determined by looking at the DNS queries in Wireshark.
I solved it by adding both IPv4 and IPv6 entries for this domain to /etc/hosts
127.0.2.1 wpad.localdomain
::1 wpad.localdomain
My NetworkManager setup doesn't read this file, so this also had to be added to /etc/NetworkManager/dnsmasq.d/hosts.conf
:
addn-hosts=/etc/hosts
After restarting NetworkManager, the game started working OK

Initially it was not possible to boot because I did not have an Xbox live account, even after creating an account, I was unable to boot as the login window did not open.
I was able to get the in-game login working by copying out libEGL.dll and libGLESv2.dll from the Release (Release Symbols) folder of the latest Windows 64 bit minimal archive found here: https://cef-builds.spotifycdn.com/index.html. You have to paste the dlls into the folder: home/$user/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/StateOfDecay2/StateOfDecay2/Binaries/Win64
After logging in and linking the Steam account with the xbox live account, it was possible to play without any problems.

Performs poorer than on windows, 45-55fps on high preset and 60fps on medium
Game is crashing after the Unreal Engine logo appears. No other proton version seems to fix this.

Only when starting the game for the first time
The game behaves considerably better when running using dxvk than Windows' own dx11, but not only that, dxvk itself behaves better on Linux than on Windows, consequently State of Decay 2 runs better on Linux than on windows.

On Proton 8.0-3 experienced some crashes or freezes when unloading the inventory. Seems to be an issue on windows as well. GE-Proton8-15 seems to fix it.

After launching the game there's a window which should hold the xbox account login but that one fails with an error and after that the game closes.
Everything working fine out of the box
Multiplayer session with two friends worked perfectly
I think there was slight stuttering right after the first launch (I assume some shaders compiling or similar), but after that it worked without a hitch. Other reports mention that this might be a thing on Windows too.
Slight performance degradation vs Windows.
Changed my settings to Medium to make it bearable
It works as if it is running on Windows.
Switch to Medium to mitigate the issue if High is too much. Overall the game works out of the box using Steam's Default.

Set Windows version to Win7 for multiplayer compatibility
Set L4 to left bumper (sprint) for ergonomic convenience
Set GPU clock to 1500 MHz because it strangely provided a slight frame boost while being the best performance to battery compromise above 30/40 FPS. Addionally, I enabled half-rate shading.
Had to compromise with the Steam Deck's hardware and play at mostly medium settings where, even then, the average frames were between 40 - mid-50ies; dipping to low wasn't too much of an improvement and was actually so graphically degraded I couldn't bring myself to play at settings that bad just for a possible consistent 60 frames.
Game requires Win7 mode in Winecfg to not crash with multiplayer; this isn't new info and Valve honestly should either fix the root issue or at least set the proper compatibility mode for it by default for a proper "playable" rating. Also, Undead Labs should consider optimizing performance for the hardware; battery life isn't great wih this game but better frames with this portable experience would be fantastic.
Played for almost 55 hours without any issues
Just make sure to play with resolution and advanced graphics to make the FPS bearable at least.

Some of the cars (at the very least in Trumbull Valley) flicker either from certain angles or constantly.
This happened to the entire Steam Big Picture ecosystem. Xbox One controller connected through USB is either undetectable or, when detected, was persistently missing the X
and B
mappings. Haven't tested this in a while, though, but I have the xboxdrv
package installed from the AUR.
Stuttering, though I have no comparison with a Windows build. Reducing both Anti-Aliasing and Effects quality improve FPS significantly.

Works better than windows due to frametime and more fps so i would recommend!
When loading in you do get stutters but it stops after 1 min or so but use to happen on windows
Steam crashes once the game starts.
