Plug-and-Play - No tinkering needed
Just works.
Works perfectly fine

I ran the game using Proton 9.0-3 and it ran fine.
gamemodrun mangohud %command%

Works perfectly with recommended Steam settings. Click play and enjoy this underrated title.
If you tab out of the full screen it will occasionally not let you back in.

It works with the default version of proton, I have been playing online with two friends, both using windows, and we have not had any problems. It really works very well :)

Worked Fine once I switched to Proton 8. Game Crashes with newest version of proton

My graphical settings: Everything to low, Texture: Medium, Fog: OFF, Anisotric Filtering 4, SSAO: OFF, Motion BLUR: OFF,
These are settings for endgame. You can play game on mid settings most of the way with pretty stable performance and I honestly recommend it, when youre new at game and play singleplayer so you can enjoy graphics, because nature ingame is stunning. But once you get to engame, attacking fortress on multiplayer and fighting 10+ ennemies, your framerate will take a hit on steam deck.

Game starts good but i must config some file to start game on my NVidia videocard not on intell(integrated)
SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/704270/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/Avalanche Studios/GenerationZero/Saves/settings/userID/settings.json -> "DisplayDxAdapter": -1 change to 0 -> save
Multiplayer good/stable
Singleplayer good/stable
If you can`t start game on your discrete videocard -> configure files

Runs perfectly out of the box
Game runs with proton experimental without additional configuration

Works nearly perfectly
When switching to another window and coming back to the game, the FPS get very laggy (from usually > 60 fps to < 20 fps). Need to restart the game to fix the issue.

Limit FPS to 30

Played MP for a good 5 hours and no issues or lag found
A Flawless experience even in multiplayer

Odd that 5.13-6 was the only version that worked. The rest were either unplayably slow or crashed on startup. Very few issues on 5.13, only had occasional crashes that may or may not have been a Proton issue as a friend on Windows also had occasional crashes.

Works great out of the box. Even the crash reporter works, unlike Unreal Engine...
seeing lights somtimes through the terran/ houses
game plays better with window mode
slow down when playing through 10 mins of play or first machine fight
game would not work on any thing but 6.8.3 or 8.0.1
Game runs out of the box without changing anything
Tirones aleatorios
Funciona muy bien a excepción de algún tirón ocasional que llega a durar varios segundos Works very well except for occasional jerks lasting several seconds.
Proton works OOB. Perfect game to play with friends using the power of linux.
Co-op works out of box
gamemoderun %command%
It seems that the framerate is lower on Linux than on Windows but that can be due to driver limitations on Nvidia drivers. Otherwise it's barely considered an issue, as everything else runs silky smooth if not smoother than on Windows.
Occassional crashes in main menu and when closing the game
Multiplayer works, tried both hosting world and getting invite.
No worky.. Using ROG laptop with 1650. We need to stop supporting NVIDIA........
launched the game with Proton 5.13-6 to launch the game, also generating the config
Edited steamapps/compatdata/704270/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/Avalanche Studios/GenerationZero/Saves/settings/[USERID-HERE]/settings.json then changed "DisplayDxAdapter" value from -1 to 0, also switched back to experimental after that
when switching to borderless with experimental, the game did a black screen, forcing to restart it
bad performance but no lag/stutter
Don't waste your time, the game's not worth it
Won't launch at all
Immediately crashes with error on my laptop
Frame limit 30
gamemoderun %command%
Works great, although the default graphics settings were too high for my system and I had to change the preset. Don't know if that's a platform-specific issue though.
Zero Issues On My End
Flawless
Game ran perfectly. I didn't experience any problems with stability, graphics, audio, or gameplay in Singleplayer and Multiplayer.
Casual FPS / RPG. Controller aiming w/ FPS is always slightly worse than mouse for FPS games, but works just fine.
In-game Settings -> Display Dynamic Resolution: On Dynamic Resolution Target FPS: 60
Had one disconnect from the remote host. I assume it was unrelated to Proton / Steam Deck.
Default framerate is slow. I strongly recommend players change the in-game display settings to "Dynamic Resolution".
If you have the same problems as me, I am confident you could play with a gamepad; however I would rather use keyboard and mouse.
I have tried using GE, normal proton versions and even changed the settings.json file for the game.
Significant lag when windowed bordlerless, and windowed mode.
Anytime I would move the mouse, a huge "lag" spike would happen. I tried playing with a controller and the problem stopped; no lag spike when looking around.
I am confident I could play the game with the controller, however I really don't want to.
It seems like my problem is rare, I would assume my hardware or mouse is going; but I can play any other games as usual. I tried fixing my issue however couldn't find a solution that woked for me.
Game yields a black screen with an error message. Tried Proton Experimental, 7.0-3 and 6.3-8
The black screen has a second small window on top of it that says:
"D3D Error 7: SWAPCHAIN_CREATION_FAILED
Please ensure your GPU meet the minimum requirements and that you have the latest graphics device drivers installed."
Needless to say, I do in fact have the latest Nvidia drivers and other games work just fine. Two notable things about my system are that:
1 - I am playing on a Nvidia Laptop with optimus-manager installed, forcing the entire Xorg session to be run with Nvidia graphics
2 - I have the display of my Laptop turned off, instead using a secondary display connected through HDMI.
This game rocks and plays great on Linux. :) Very atmospheric like being out in the woods!
Installed and worked with no additional effort required. Worked straight out of the box.

For everyone who have performance issues on intel+nvidia (optimus) laptops. Game running on Intel GPU by default, to change it follow the instaruction:
- Find
settings.json
somewhere in!/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/704270/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/Avalanche Studios/GenerationZero/Saves/settings/
- Change
"DisplayDxAdapter"
value from-1
to0
- looks like that will force game to use proper GPU, at least in my case frame rate jumped from 3 on LOW to 40+ on ULTRA.
Random light freezes
Game itself does not choose proper GPU. Same troubles in Window, where you need to force use Nvidia GPU via Nvidia settings.
Runs flawlessly except a very rare lighting flicker
Lighting seems to flicker very rarely, this might simply be a driver issue rather then the game.
