Works pretty well with few issues on Proton 9, just make sure to save a lot if you do get one.
Sometimes the game would be the focused window, but not get keyboard input, or not get mouse input, or neither (both work fine otherwise). More commonly, when unfocusing, the mouse would still behave like it was in the game, i.e. not exist. Both issues sometimes fixed themselves by refocusing the game a few times. Both issues also seem to happen less with Proton 9 instead of 8.
these problems may be caused in some way by the window manager i use, niri, but they dont happen on other games
Sometimes when losing focus, the game would just blackscreen and not work. The only option is to close it.
again, this problem might be caused by niri in some way
The native version doesnt even launch for me, but the game works well with Proton 9. No tinkering needed, just launch it with Proton 8 or 9. For Proton 9, the opengl graphics option in the launcher doesnt seem to work, but opengl is not the default anyway. I only had some issues when refocusing the game a bunch, which might be caused by the window manager i use (niri) I recommend saving a lot manually in case you do encounter any bugs, since autosaves are rare.
Works OOTB.
Running on 5W as usual.
Played this game on Linux and windows PCs, but Steam Deck OOTB may be the absolutely ideal experience.
Plays perfectly. No audio problems when resuming from sleep. The launcher fully supports gamepad controls.
QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb %command%
Delete librt.so.1
Short version:
- Always delete librt.so.1 from steamapps/common/Danganronpa.../lib
- Wayland users, launch with QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb
Long version:
The game ships with a seemingly-broken realtime dynlib. Perhaps it's just not compatible with certain versions of glibc or something, but regardless, just deleting that library will fix the main issue. Additionally, the launcher UI is written in Qt and expects to be running on X11. Wayland users might have the QT_QPA_PLATFORM environment variable globally set to something like "wayland-egl", preventing the launcher from starting. The provided command line option forces Qt to expect X11 and Xwayland can handle the rest.
After removing librt.so.1 from the game files (gamefolder/lib) the game works
Native didn't launch, Proton 8 worked perfectly
I tried the native port first, but I couldn't get the game to start. After switching to Proton, I could launch without any problems. I additionally enabled the Steam Input to use a Dualshock 4 controller (which has been working well so far). I've finished the first chapter without any problems.
Good game, work good, very good. Make me good happy, yes.
Plays *almost* flawlessly
The launcher has an option to use Gamepad controls and button prompts, but the option is greyed out, so I had to bind the buttons to corresponding keyboard inputs.
If you don't mind taking a little extra time to get the controls working, then this game plays absolutely fine with no other issues.
can't get the launcher to work
delete : path/game/lib/librt.so.1
I couldn't get the launcher to work, even with proton (experimental, 8 and 7) and the delete librt.so.1 trick
delete : path/game/lib/librt.so.1
As "Calajese" stated in their report, to get the game's launcher to run, I had to delete the library file called "librt.so.1" in the "lib" directory of the game's directory. Here's the relative path to the file for me. After that, the launcher ran to start the game.
~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc/lib/librt.so.1
As the user Calajese stated in their report, to get the launcher to run, I had to delete the library file "librt.so.1" in the "lib" folder of the game's directory. The launcher wouldn't start, but after deleting that file, the game launched and ran perfectly native. The relative path to the file for me is as follows.
~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc/lib/librt.so.1
I'd reccomend using a controller. A PS5 DualSense via Bluetooth worked for me.
Due to a bundled library being broken on modern glibc versions the game doesn't launch. Deleting the "librt.so.1" file from the game's "lib" folder forces the game to use the system library thus working again.

This game has a native version which doesn't work for me. Switching to Proton 7 does the trick.
I was able to play the entire game without any issue. I even connected a PS4 controller and with Steam Input you can play the game with it as if it were a XBOX controller.
Like previously noted, audio issue on suspend resume. Not a big deal but annoying.
Native game runs perfectly
Played almost entirely on Linux and was able to 100% complete the game without problems. I did not try Proton
Runs perfectly, no issues
Apart from the audio issue on suspend/resume with the Steam Deck, it's a wonderful experience.
Audio is completely gone after suspending and then resuming on the Steam Deck about 66% of the time. Closing the game and reopening it fixes it.
Game is Playable
Game uses an old version of SDL2 that doesn't recognize DualSense controllers. To solve this, add the following line to 'gamecontrollerdb.txt' on the game's main folder:
030000004c050000e60c000000000000,PS5 Controller,a:b1,b:b2,back:b8,dpdown:h0.4,dpleft:h0.8,dpright:h0.2,dpup:h0.1,guide:b12,leftshoulder:b4,leftstick:b10,lefttrigger:a3,leftx:a0,lefty:a1,misc1:b13,rightshoulder:b5,rightstick:b11,righttrigger:a4,rightx:a2,righty:a5,start:b9,x:b0,y:b3,platform:Windows,
Got screen tearing while playing some video cutscenes, VSync being enabled did not help. Very rare though.
The game's launcher on the native version doesn't scale well with DPI, making the launcher impossible to use as all the elements are mangled. The windows' version launcher isn't DPI scaled but renders fine without zoom (should zoom properly on future Wine versions with proper DPI scaling).
Worked just fine. No tweaking needed
It even gave me less issues with fractional scaling unlike all other games.
Works flawlessly, no apparent issue perceived
Only reason I've replayed this game was because of a German translation of the game, which I can say that it works without a issue
Works perfectly on Linux, native without any issues.
The game works perfectly. Native on Linux
