Had to manually choose the safegame to be loaded at all
Heavy stutters during gameplay to the point of being unplayable
When opening any of the menues (map, journal, skills, ...) the game freezes on a black screen.
The game is not at all playable

Worked out of the box
No issues after 16 hours and the performance is excellent.

If you enjoy a game with absolutely no HUD (you may enjoy the experience), but if not then it will be a poor experience for you.
settings.ini AsyncComputeDisable=1 Have to play with in-game setting Show Hud = Off otherwise game will crash whenever a Hud element is displayed. This will make navigating difficult as you will have no indications of health, objective markers, or even pickup prompts. I'm still trying to figure out a work around for this really strange behaviour regarding the HUD, but until then I guess I'm just flying blind.
Unless I disabled Show Hud, frequent crash every time a Hud element was displayed, especially early game with all the tutorial prompts (each would cause a crash when Hud was enabled).
TLDR: -Something in this games HUD is broken when trying to play on LINUX for me (constant crash) -Show HUD = Off (ran fine and perfectly smooth without crashes)

The game would crash every 15 minutes for no apparent reason.
Renaming the 'Crash Sender' related files in the installation directory appears to help:
CrashRpt1403.dll, CrashRptProbe1403.dll & CrashSender1403.exe
Game won't load in gaming mode byt default, needs to load the game in Desktop mode & change the display type from Full Screen to Borderless Window

Game freeze when press tab

gamemoderun %command%
Switching Display modes also freezes the game.
Many micro stutters and pressing TAB on the keyboard freezes the game until your force close it.
TAB Keyboard button freezes entire game. Have to force game to close.
I've contacted Bethesda on their support site and made them aware of this bug. As well as the Steam Rage 2 Discussion forums which are now supposably abandoned because of the Microsoft Bethesda buy out.

Being able to open the menus is a core part of the game...I'd say it's gone from working fine to unplayable.
As someone else pointed out, worked great until the last little update, since then trying to open any menu crashes the game. I also tried multiple proton versions as well as both x11 and wayland.

Since the last small update (9,6 Mb), editing of the file in the "steamapps/compatdata/548570/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Saved Games/id Software/Rage 2/settings.ini" directory and changing it to "AsyncComputeDisable=1", doesn't work anymore as fix. Tested with many proton versions.

Works fine for me.
I occasionally experience some frame drops that only last a second or two.

Edited the file in the "steamapps/compatdata/548570/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Saved Games/id Software/Rage 2/settings.ini" directory changing the config to "AsyncComputeDisable=1"
Crackling whenever frame drops occur
occasional frame drops from 30-60fps to 1-5fps
Random Frame drops + sudden crashes when alt tabbing into a different menu, also occur when game is loading and another app/menu outside the game pops up
Whenever the game crashes from focusing on other menus for a second and the game crashing, reloading the game would cause it to be blank, launching the game on a different proton version and closing it once audio is played before reverting back to 8.0-5 usually would fix this issue

Need to edit "~/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/548570/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Saved Games/id Software/Rage 2/settings.ini" with "AsyncComputeDisable=1" Otherwise crashes on tab menu
2560x1440, Ultra settings, Motion blur off, Resolution scale off, Chromatic Abberation off: ~130 FPS

by default, PortProton
The game may freeze when pop-ups occur during learning at the start. It also freezes when collapsing, and sometimes when the TAB key is pressed.
If the developer resolves these issues, it could even be fun for you.

The game downloads and launches without any problem. I had no bugs in 7 hours of play. It is stable, 40 fps in medium-high graphics configuration. The internal temperature does not exceed 70 C°. The controllers are supported, in short I have no problems to report with this game, I will recommend that Valve put this game in supported because it works perfectly.

Alt-tab crashes game
Wouldn't launch with Proton 8

gamemoderun %command% +com_skipIntroVideo 1
Crashes occassionally when in the tab menu
I've tried running the game on newer versions of Proton and GE Proton but nothing loads except version 6.3-8. I've set the screen refresh rate to be the same as my monitor refresh rate and set VSync to On but still occassionally crashes in the tab menu. Be sure to save before entering the tab menu.

Limit to 30-40fps FSR turned to off, graphics settings set to Ultra, running perfectly in native resolution of Steam Deck.
Game launches to black screen in Steam Deck Game Mode and needs to be started in Desktop mode first. Here, you need to change from Fullscreen to Borderless Fullscreen and disable VSync. The game will then also start without problems in game mode.

Game install and runs perfect, the performance are the same you would have with Windows. Suggested game and very easy compatibility.

Changed Windows version to 7
To play the game it is needed to make some configuration tricks
It is needed to change system display refresh rate to 60Hz (in NVidia Settings), enable VSync in game, and run it in windowed borderless mode.

Works ootb on Proton 8.0.3
Pop!_OS 22.04 (x11)
Steam flatpak

Set VSYNC to ON and frame limit to 144 for my 144Hz monitor - this fixed the map/tab menu crashing.
TAB (Menü) = crash
set VSYNC to ON to fix TAB crash
Tried getting this game to work on the deck multiple times as I love it but it's just not working well at all.
Have to launch in desktop first or you get a blank screen.
Barely runs, frame rate's all over the place. Seems to have trouble running under Proton.
This shouldn't be classed as gold on this site as it's unplayable. People who say it runs must have Windows or something installed on the deck, natively it isn't working. Don't waste your time as of this review.

If you have bought the game using the Epic Store, then you may have to use the Heroic Games Launcher. It isn't good!
Usually when starting the game, the game shows minor artifacts
The game regularly hitches and the frame times are not good
Game always crashes when you try to open the map for the first time
Game is almost unplayable when you enter the Arc for the first time as you can't open the map
If you plan on buying this game, own an AMD GPU and probably buy it on Steam. There are verious reports that suggest that the game works find on AMD GPUS and when launched through Steam. I tried launching it from Heroic Games Launcher as I bought it through Epic and it simply is very unstable. Opening the map always crashes the game
using the righ proton version this is enjoyable but make sure to save regulalry and enable auto save.
gamemoderun %command%
I initially tried with proton 7 and then experiemtnal both crashed after loading the map for fast travel, 6.3-8 worked perfectly.
use graphics settings at high rather than max, use proton 6, and have auto save on then all is good. works just as good as windows but is slightly unstable expect the occasional crash.

The in-game menu crashes if you are in a vehicle and use the mouse to navigate or click on items or set waypoints. exit vehicle and use keyboard navigation in the tab menu screens.
Turn VSync to ON not Soft. The in-game menu will crash/freeze if you use the mouse to navigate and select items so only use keyboard navigation. The in-game menu will crash/freeze even using keyboard if you access the menu while in a vehicle. Exiting the vehicle and using the in-game (Tab) menu and shortcuts combined with keyboard navigation solved the issue of crashing/freezing completely. I did use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out but I did not use hover to set waypoints or click on anything just zoom in/out. I did not need to use a different resolution than my native resolution or use protontricks to set windows to 7 instead of 10 as some people say to do.
Upgrading to nVidia driver version 525 improved stability
Alt-Tabbing still crashes the game, but the occasional random crashes completely disappeared with the newer driver.

protontricks 548570 winecfg and then select windows 7 instead of windows 10
Using Tab menu will freeze unless you set VSync from Soft to On. also setting winecfg from win 10 to win 7
The game would play fine with no issues until I had to use the tab menu for inventory, map, upgrades etc. which would freeze until I set VSync from soft to On and using "protontricks 548570 winecfg" and setting from Windows 10 to Windows 7. Fullscreen works perfectly for my widescreen 3440X1440 native resolution, cutscenes are pillar boxed since they are in 1920X1080. There may be a fix out in the wild for that if you care to look around.
This is a solid 50-60 FPS game on steam deck with medium settings and some custom changes like turing motion blur off.
You will need to launch this in desktop mode then adjust settings to Borderless and turn Vsync off in settings. May crash when changing windowed mode first so change Vsync first then from fullscreen to borderless
Launching in Game Mode will result in black screen. Initial launch needs to be done in desktop
Aside from the initial launch problems its a solid experience on Steam Deck and the gameplay is extremely smooth otherwise.
Alt-Tab always crashes the game
I was experiencing random crashes (NOT related to Alt-Tabbing or Notifications), suggestions from other reports didn't help. Eventually I found out that, at least for my configuration, putting everything on "High" or lower in the Advanced Video Options prevents these crashes, with the most crash-prone option apparently being "Geometric Details".
I use GE-Proton, which is not a requirement - Proton 7.x does also work but has a really long startup time for some reason.

Some textures/images in the menus are pixelated. In general not a big problem, but it makes prices unreadable when buying stuff from vendors.
I played the Epic Games version with Proton experimental and Heroic Launcher. Apart from the pixelation in the menus, no issues encountered. Performance is good, alt-tabbing works, no crashes.
Black screen when launched from gaming mode first time
Start in desktop mode first time and switch to borderless windowed in the video setings. Subsequent launches work fine from gaming mode. Once fixed runs well, locked to 40FPS in starting area on medium settings.
Once you've done the tweaks, game runs lovely.
Fullscreen and Windowed Borderless are fine and work great but windowed mode has significant FPS drops.
ALT+TAB crashes game.
The game refused to open after my first ALT+TAB crash, this was fixed by deleting settings.ini, Settings.sav and settings.bak from the Rage 2, Rage 2/Saves and Rage 2/Saves/Backup folders located at your/steam/directory/SteamLibary/steamapps/compatdata/548570/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Saved Games/id Software/Rage 2/ as well as the CrashRpt and id Software folders located at your/steam/directory/SteamLibary/steamapps/compatdata/548570/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Local Setings/Application Data
Anytime I would attempt to leave the TAB menu, the game would freeze. This can be fixed by setting VSync to On.
Note: if you are still experiencing issues, you may want to use winecfg on the bottle and change Windows 10 to Windows 7 and that may remedy the issue. I've also seen that setting AsyncComputeDisable to 1 in the settings.ini
Runs perect on my setup. I do have gamemode installed and activate it in the startup commands. Have not tried without, but runs perfect!
gamemoderun %command%

any notification or attemp to alt-tab resulted in a crash (on desktop mode at least)
The first launch crashed, and quite a few crashes afterwards
Surprisinly good performance in game, except some slowness on inventory, mission, info etc. menus

It launches fine out of the box. Running Epic version through Heroic Game Launcher with default settings.
AsynComputeDisable=1
Random Crashes during gameplay, crashes when I try to access the Tab menu
Could not access the Tab menu at all, instant game crash. Frequent crashes during regular gameplay too. Not a stable experience at all, can't even make it through the tutorial. AsyncComputeDisable=1 didn't change anything, neither did borderless windowed.
Runs smoothly
The game crashes when leaving full screen mode
Im using the Steam via Flatpak (Ubuntu 22.04 LTS)
Runs very well
Was able to go from the beginning up to gunbarrel without a issue

Game stutters pretty badly.
crashes every time I alt-tab
VSYNC was disabled, tried low graphic settings, could not shake the view panning stutter, the stutter was when I looked around with my mouse, more so looking up and down than left to right strangely.
