On my desktop (GTX 1070), 5.13-4 works just fine.
On my laptop (GTX 1060 mobile), I had to switch to 5.0-10 to get it working. Or use wined3d11, but that isn't really recommended.
The game's performance is NOT good. But that's the same on Windows, this game has atrocious optimization.
Fullscreen behaves VERY oddly with multiple monitors, seems to kill the other monitor and not display graphics sometimes. Use windowed mode instead if you run into this.
Without the videos, there's little point in playing the game, no matter how well the rest runs.
Videos are not playing - pointless game without them.
MANGOHUD_CONFIG=fps_limit=60 mangohud %command%
Works well out of the box. No issues other than vsync not working
If you want to play single player only, go ahead! Works like a charm. Multiplayer won't work, though.
You can alt-tab out of the game, but not back in.
Game crashed on me once in ~5 hours. Not sure if Proton-related.
Runs perfectly fine. Only minimal problem (like some games under Wine) is a short stuttering when first loading all the assets.
No problems at all while playing. Launcher shows minor graphical bugs (font size?).
Borderless Fullscreen is tiny for some reason, only true fullscreen actually fills the screen.
You need to install dotnet40 to be able to start the launcher:
protontricks 359320 -q dotnet40 win7
Once that is done, works perfectly fine. With great performance.
I'd recommend an FPS limiter for the game, as by default it runs at unlimited FPS, needlessly taxing your hardware. Not sure if that is the same on Windows.
Only problem I noticed was that sometimes the game doesn't exit correctly and freezes - and then must be killed manually.
As others said, intro movie doesn't work. Main problem is that even after that, only a screen with some burning ships is shown, and nothing happens. No menu, no cursor, nothing to interact with.
Requires the following command get audio in-game:WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=90 PROTON_LOG=1 %command%
If you have a gamepad plugged in, either unplug it before starting or disable gamepad support in the game's ini.
You need the Media Foundation fix https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install. Won't run without.
Has to be started with "-windowed" parameter or will crash on startup.
The shift key simply doesn't work in-game (rebind to something else)
If you only want single player, no problem: just remember to set the "-windowed" parameter and rebind the shift key.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES=”d3dcompiler_47=n” %command%
protontricks 1224290 d3dcompiler_47
The main game itself runs fine, but no videos will play. Which means that the game cannot be played further than the short intro. Then a video starts and - due to not being played via Proton - never finishes playing and so the game can't advance.
Crash on startup - tried several Proton versions. No luck.
Not working
Doesn't work on multi-monitor
No matter which monitor you select in the Unity launcher, it will launch in the leftmost monitor - while trapping the mouse in your main monitor.
Unplayable in that state.
Except the slight audio distortion after a long time of playing, no problems whatsoever.
After about 1.5 hours of playing, the audio started to become slightly distorted. Fixed by restarting.
Runs perfectly fine, but you have to have a high tolerance for very small symbols/text if you want to play it on the Deck.
Text is unfortunately very small. Which will be VERY straining on the eyes for longer texts.
Hopefully smaller resolution support will be added or a bigger text option.
Everything seems to work perfectly fine, didn't need to apply any "tricks".
Using the following launch parameters: RADV_PERFTEST=aco %command% I had no problems at all, not even during the intro.
Runs flawlessly. Had one crash in several hours of playing, at that could happen on Windows as well.
When you encounter the loading screen freeze, do the following:
- Launch the game with PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
- You'll now be able to get past the map that didn't load before.
- The option seriously impacts performance and graphics quality, so leave the area you are in ASAP and go to some other map.
- Save & quit the game.
- Change the launch parameter to PROTON_USE_WINED3D=0 %command%.
- Launch the game again - you'll now be able to play normally.
This has worked for me every single time I encountered the loading screen freeze. It's a bit of work but at least you can play.
Loading screen freeze - see description for workaround.
The vast majority of bugs in this game are not related to Proton so not covered here.
Follow the instructions here to get a custom version of the dxvk DLLs that will fix the stuck-at-loading problem.
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/5150#issuecomment-917625085
Haven't had a single loading freeze since using those DLLs.
Except for the background in the main menu, everything works flawlessly
Fullscreen makes you unable to type anything outside of the game (seems to capture input).
Performance is great!
Windowed Borderless won't allow alt-tab, Fullscreen will allow it, but you can't get back.
The font looks off, but is still readable.
Game crashes immediately on startup.
Also tried with some GE Protons, same result.
Not working with any version of Proton
I can get all other games to work with Proton, but not this one. No matter which Proton version, no matter if using WINED3D or not.
The process just quits immediately without showing any window.
Ignore my previous report, I just did not have "lib32-nvidia-utils" package installed for some reason.
Alt-tabbing will cause the game to crash, be aware! Steam overlay works, though, if you need a browser...
Proton-5.9-GE-8-ST GloriousEggroll
Minor problem that the game got the resolution wrong. Easily fixed going windowed, then fullscreen again.
Proton-6.19-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
The game crashes sometimes, but it does so on Windows as well. Most likely not related to Proton.
No amount of fiddling around will make it work
Tried every possible combination of launch flags, protontricks, proton versions, virtual desktop, etc.
Nothing works. Game will launch to black screen for a second and then crash.
(Steam report is bollocks, I have a GTX 1070 & NVidia drivers, which is correctly recognized by all games, just not Steam itself)
Proton-6.5-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Gamepad support is terrible, but it's the same on Windows.
Just be sure to kill the process after quitting - it won't shut itself down correctly.
Performance alternates between perfectly fine and slightshow sometimes. Seems to be triggered by UI elements sometimes.
Still very much playable, though, given its turn-based nature.
Other than the mouse in non-fullscreen issue, runs perfectly fine.
Mouse will only work reliably when the game is set to fullscreen - it will always appear fullscreen, but has to be additionally set to in the options.
Unplayable due to double view
Double vision
Game is unplayable due to double vision (right eye is off-center).
In contrast to what some here wrote, changing the resolution multiplyer changes absolutely nothing about the situation. Even after multiple restarts and changes, the problem persists, no matter the chosen multiplyer.
Force the use of Proton and use the --skip-intro parameter - works like a charm after those steps.
There are disconnects sometimes, but that's a game problem affecting all OSs.
Just make sure to also install the EasyAntiCheat Runtime in Steam!
