Proton Experimental didn't work so I had to follow this article to fix the blank EA app overlay
Works 100%
Had to follow some simple protontrick steps, used an article from the site steamdeckhq that I can't link here
Works out of the box
Sometimes when you remove the HOTAS during the gameplay the game simply ignores it, not sure if its a Proton or game issue. Everything else works perfectly.
Native Linux version doesn't work. Proton: Unable to Alt + Tab normally during the game, even while paused.
Funciona
Abre tranquilo no Proton 8.0
Namoral Hoplon que porra de jogo é esse kkkkk
Works great with occasional crashes
Occasional crashes
Occasionally crashes when loading a saved game
Infrequent crashes when loading
Had to change the config files to enable DLSS as specified in other reviews
Fullscreen is a little finicky, borderless works best
The game doesn't close properly when pressing the quit button, if you close the game via Alt+F4 the next time you open there's a chance a black popup window with two invisible buttons. You have to click the leftmost button (use your cursor to guess where each one is placed). I assume this is a cloud save error popup that you have to click to proceed. If you don't click this button the game doesn't open.
Co-op had some problems with infinite loading screens
Origin had some problems on Linux but this new EA App is a regression
Works OK
Constant hitches through the game even with the FPS remaining high
Minor performance hitches
The Proton version fixes a bug that I had with mouse resetting to the lower left corner on cinnamon
Had some slowdowns when rendering explosions and fire, had to use Proton 5 to be able to play properly.
Both Linux versions and newer Proton versions had the bug that I mentioned
Since it's a game from 2008 you have to tinker with the files to get a proper resolution going
No issues found when using proton, you have to tinker with the files just as much as on windows
Proton GE had issues with mouse input where you couldn't change sensitivity. Proton 7 worked but had crackling problems on cutscene audio. Proton 4 worked but had minors problems when using two monitors while alt tabbing.
Doesn't work anymore
Tried the steps detailed here, apparently the game doesn't work anymore.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 gamemoderun %command%
Audio in cutscenes is out of sync
Blur
Since the cutscenes are a major part of this game I wouldn't recommend playing in this state. I tried the solutions listed below for the PC reviews, using an specific ProtonGE version, the latest one or Proton Experimental provided the same results.
Tried multiple proton versions including GE and it didn't fix the problems.
Frequent audio crackling
Game crashes when alt-tabbing during loadings.
Couldn't get the audio crackling to stop during the first level, incredibly annoying. I'm refunding the game and waiting for a proper patch.
Works OK
You need to alt tab twice to get back into the game.
Game crashes if you alt tab while a loading screen is shown
Minor crashes that are preventable.
Works out of the box
Some areas have weird lighting
Minor color issues on some map areas
WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR_STRENGTH=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 gamemoderun %command% +com_showLoadingScreen 0 +r_skipDOF 1
Wouldn't recommend playing without proton GE and the recommended launch arguments, without them you get some pretty heavy lag spikes that distract a lot from gameplay.
Works 100%
No problems out of the box. Stable 100+ FPS
Works perfectly
Minor shader problems with water streams.
Minor shader bugs but works perfectly
I had some major slow downs probably due to shader compilation with normal versions of proton which went away when using Proton GE
Can't even reach the main menu
Even if I install uplay through protontricks I couldn't alt tab to the game, I can only hear the sounds but the game doesnt let me interact with it.
Works just like windows
The Closed beta is full of bugs though but those were also reported on windows so it's the game's fault.
Tried multiple Proton versions
Low FPS in some areas
Turning shadows to low or changing proton versions didn't help. I would recommend waiting for a proton patch
%command% -noblur
No problems experienced
With Proton 7 and GE_Proton7 the game would either launch on a low-poly mode at first or it would crash when using Alt+Tab. Proton 8 fixed those problems.
proton ge
No problems. Native version on cinnamon had issues with the mouse
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Slight fps drops with particle effects
Launch options gets rid of the fps drops, they are really noticeable if you are sensitive to fps drops.
Works out of the box
Minor freezes during match start. Nothing big
100%
No tinkering required
Works 100%
Excelent
No tinkering required, leaving my review here so the game gets to a Gold/Platinum score
Works perfectly including with head tracking
When changing focus back to the game the ALT key seems to get stuck so you need to tap it to get back to normal (not a hardware problem). Using cinnamon DE
Works with minor flaws
Better than the native version
Can't turn off in-game mouse smoothing.
Can't use my mouse on the native Linux version
Can't recommend
From time to time the game will stutter and it will jerk your camera around
The input problems I describe make it really hard to play this game
Works perfectly
I discovered the issue that was causing multiple problems with mouse input on my games. Cinnamon's mouse sensitivity settings are really bad and don't allow you to enable/disable your sensitivity/acceleration or set specific values. I had to change my xinput "Coordinate Transformation Matrix" setting and this caused input accuracy problems on multiple games. Removing this config from my start scripts solved it.
When running at native resolution the input kept being reset to the center of the screen rendering menus without keybinds unusable
Could not get mouse to work with game
Could not escape from fullscreen with alt+tab on Manjaro Cinnamon
Playing with the mouse was impossible, as soon as you move it no matter what direction your camera immediately forces your view spinning to the ground. Messing with the configurations did not work and I couldn't find a configure file. You can play by mapping look directions to the keyboard but that's not a good experience.
I couldn't notice a water reflection bug like others mentioned. Maybe you could get this game to work with unofficial controller support. I cannot pinpoint the origin of the mouse bug (maybe Cinnamon? idk)
Works OK
Sometimes the games sticks to the front of the screen and you can't minimize it by alt tabbing
I got the mouse to work by removing the changes that I made to my system's mouse sensitivity config files. Despite the alt tab problems it works fine.
Works fine at 165 FPS+, issues with alt + tab
Problems with alt tabbing on Cinnamon
Fullscreen on Cinnamon doesn't work properly. You have to double click the game on the taskbar for it to fully open and it doesn't work all the time.
Don't use Cinnamon for gaming, this is one of the multiple cases where I had windowing problems because of it
Both Proton7 and ProtonGE should give you pretty good results, had a crash only once when changing video settings. Not sure why performance on this game isn't that great, it should be running better with my hardware.
A little CPU heavy but works great
Proton-6.1-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Install Proton-GE which now includes media foundation support: https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom
Works OK
Had to use the crossplay beta branch to play with Epic Games players
Runs better than the native Linux build
Artifacts when playing
Better with Proton
This modification is mandatory to play the game at a high FPS (100 fps+)
gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=1
gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1
Running on fullscreen prevents you from using mouse click on other windows even when the game is minimized.
Save often, had occasional crashes at random places (dungeons, changing rooms, etc).
I used multiple proton GE versions, the crashes happen on loading screens and are so random that I have no idea if changing versions helped. Either way the crashes are somewhat frequent so save often.
Tried changing proton versions and it didn't work. HUD artifacts still persisted.
Graphic artifacts after ~10 minutes of play
Works fine. Minor stability issues
Could not escape from fullscreen with alt+tab
You need to regenerate the wolfconfig file after the tram level otherwise the game crashes
Needs some tweaking to play with modern resolutions but that's due to the game game being old.
Works 99%
Really rare crashes and some minor slowdowns on demolitions (although it also happens on slower windows hardware)
Works pretty good
Sometimes your mouse can escape from the main screen to the second monitor and then you have to access the pause menu to fix.
Couldn't get the game to recognize my webcam but that probably doesn't play a big part on this game
Works out of the box. Crashes when setting to fullscreen
Game crashes when trying to set to fullscreen, max resolution is 1080p.
Fullscreen crashes the game
Works out of the box.
Can't alt+tab using manjaro cinnamon. Game previously didn't work on fullscreen but now the situation has flipped where the game does not work while windowed.
Full screen only
Works almost perfecly
Cloud saves are broken, you need to load manually
Requires extra clicks to load saves, besides that everything works perfectly
Proton-6.14-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Proton-6.14-GE-2
Voice chat doesnt work both ways
When changing window mode you lose mouse control
Minor hiccups here and there during loading
Also works with normal proton fork. Some UI notifications don't show up.
Can't get past microsoft login page
Tried different proton versions
Used to be able to play this game but now it crashes after entering Microsoft credentials
Mangohud crashes game on login
Got the game working again by disabling mangohud with MANGOHUD=0 %command%
Works perfectly out of the box
No tinkering required, haven't tried the multiplayer but it runs very well at high framerates
Works perfectly
Got two crashes in ~10 hours, probably because of Early Access.
Don't forget to save often
Poorly optimized
Random loading hiccups and performance problems on the Windows build.
Runs between 10-70 FPS on hardware that clearly should handle it at 140+
Significant FPS drop during explosions. Game drops to 30 fps sometimes.
Crashes frequently. When loading, during the game, when joining a match.
Wouldn't recommend.
Can't play on official VAC servers
Native version runs better.
Had to use protontricks 105600 dotnet452
to work
Could not alt tab properly while ingame
Problems encountered with the native linux version:
- Lower framerate compared to using proton.
- Resolutions greater than FullHD wouldn't work. would not fill the screen and at the same time would limit the area where the mouse could be used.
Works out of the box
Can't alt tab on cinnamon when fullscreen, workspace switching works fine.
Works out of the box
Major stability and connectivity issues
Random freezes during gameplay, game loads forever when trying to join friends. Sometimes the game takes a long time to load after opening
Frequently crashes while joining a map or a friend's session.
Game frequently gets stuck at loading screens, impossible to join friends.
Using Alt tab would disable enter key until game is restarted
Significant slowdowns
Use the beta branch which has a Linux native build, runs way better
Works great
Alt-Tab problems while using Cinnamon
Good old cinnamon alt tab bugs, despite that it works fine
Works fine
Could not alt+tab using Cinnamon DE
