When playing on Manjaro I was able to load the game unless it was set to full screen. Once past the Frontier logo game would slow down so bad it would become unplayable. I reimaged my computer to debian and it runs flawlessly. Same as windows. Arch based distros seem to struggle with this game.
Arch based distros seem to be the issue. Debian works as good as windows. No matter what. Do. Not. Full. Screen.
No tinkering. Tried Proton 8 and experimental. Game stuck on Cobra splash screen and then crashes.

The game would not start when it was installed on my external hard drive. I had to move the game to my internal SSD to be able to launch, probably an issue with my pc and not the game.

Game crashes after about 5-10 minutes of gameplay. The more complex the map the faster the crash.
Cannot be started on fullscreen. It runs in borderless or windowed mode

PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 %command%
Stuttering, clipping in and out. Fixed by adding PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 to the command
Audio issues are easily fixed adding PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 or maybe even lower values.

It needs to be docked to a monitor with a mouse and keyboard to be an enjoyable experience. With that equipment, it's great!
I play with a mouse and keyboard in docked mode.
The UI can be scaled larger in the ingame menu.
Anything requiring keyboard input would not work until I changed to Desktop Mode, at which point, wverythig worked perfectly.
I've put 100s of hours into Planet Zoo with my set up and it works really well. It is not a grab and go kind of game, but if you don't have a PC, it's a great way to have access to this game.

Crashes at cobra launch screen
I've tried pretty much everything I could think of - bunch of different Proton versions, all sorts of launch options - and the farthest I got was the cobra launch screen, after which it would tell me the game crashed.
Runs perfectly out of the box

Restarting the game after swithing to fullscreen in the game's setting menu reulted in the game being stuck minimized, sounds played but couldn't be displayed. Had tzo manually edit the settings XML file, thank god its human readable.
Try fullscrean at your own risk.

Alt-tabbing can cause a crash, but doesn't seem to happen if the game is paused.

No issues, just works. workshop content i've previously downloaded on windows also automatically installed without issues.
gamemoderun %command%
I opened the game and I was pleasantly surprised by the performance. It worked without any adjustments using Experimental.

I did NOT tinker, the form seems bugged. Works out of the box since Proton 8 is available, just as good as Planet Zoo

mangohud gamemoderun gamescope -W 1920 -H 1080 -f -r 60 -o 30 %command%
I'm playing the game with graphics set to ultra, and I'm getting between 55-80 FPS (with VSync turned off). While this is more than enough for a smooth experience, I typically get much higher FPS on my system with more demanding games running with graphics set to ultra (Eg: Forza Horizon 5, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, etc.). Additionally, MangoHud also reported my GPU throttling now and then. I've not seen this happen with any of my other games.
Everything seems to be working as expected. Didn't really feel like a non-native game. NOTE: The launch options I've specified are completely optional.

Too unstable to properly play
Crashes my whole GNOME session, logging me out and losing the save ... maybe once an hour

It launched, but froze and forced me to close when loading a zoo. Neither 8.0-4 or Experimental launched period.

""Playable"" but really unpleasant compared to Windows
Weird glitches around things that seem to be generated by GPU shaders
Horrible performance (6-7 fps tops) compared to Windows with identical graphical settings and setup

Make sure to disable Steam Overlay to get off the Cobra Initial screen. Loadings are slow but once it's on memory it runs without issues. I'll keep playing and report on any issues if any.

Freezes on cobra page
The game launches but freezes on the Cobra page. I can't even reach menu.
I'll tinker next, but proton experimental doesn't load beyond first splash screen.

Works fine, but can lag when you build a big park.
Crashed once and then was stuck at 5 FPS.
Lags more than on windows.
Crashed once in 20h playing.
After clicking the animal menu (or maybe some other menus,), the game starts glitches all over the screen.
Some minor episodes when a lot of motion was happening.
Works fine. I had no issues with it so far.

Seems like you can't set Refresh rate to 75Hz while not playing on fullscreen, though enabling said fullscreen makes game totally unplayable.
Initially started on 8.0-2, then switched to Experimental, then to GE-Proton8-4 (-3, -2) and finally to 7.0-6. None of these allowed me to play for more than 5 minutes without any issues, especially heavy glitches.
Actually switching to Experimental and GE made Steam went absolute bonkers and haywire. It crashed, restarted, tried to uninstall games, switched library type, activate new game, report crashes, tried to update its audio and controller drivers(?), created tons of zombie processes... and that until killing the game.

Completely customized controls. Used back paddle to toggle camera movement. Used action set layers to create custom menus.
Locked 30, medium settings.
You can increase the size of the UI but it can cause some minor issues.
If you try to launch with non-GE Proton, you may get a save error.
Save game issues on Proton 7+. Use GE.

If i shift-tab before the games fully loaded it will crash
I only played using proton GE and steam native. Cant say what standard proton is like

Does not run.
I've been able to play this in the past (a month ago?), and it worked fine. Today it updated and does not start any more.
Tried changing proton versions and it didn't work. HUD artifacts still persisted.
Graphic artifacts after ~10 minutes of play
The game works well, perfomance isn't optimal. But after a few minutes the UI starts to glitch very heavy. It's unplayable in this state.
PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 MANGOHUD_CONFIG=vram,ram,cpu_temp,gpu_temp,position=top-left,alpha=0.5,background_alpha=0.3,gpu_power,fps_limit=120 mangohud gamemoderun %command%
Heavy UI Artifacts
Older Proton (GE) versions don't work either. So it's something with a new game patch or a driver issue.
Have to restart the game every 30-ish minutes due to the issues. Issues start withing max 10 minutes get worse over time until unplayable.
GUI textures start stretching out. Get's worse the longer you play until it becomes unplayable.
Literally a day after leaving a report it works well (after days of playing flawlessly) the issues started to arrise. However, earlier versions of Proton didn't work either so it doesn't seem to be an Proton update that broke it.
After some minutes of game you will start to view some glitch coming from the different button and menu all over your screen.
The menu glitch all over the screen
The more the game wil stay open the more glicth and the more important they will be. But, at least the game run smoothly and is playable until the glitch cover to much of the menu and the screen. You will have to restart the game to eliminate the glitch (every 30m-1h) because at some point it become unplayable because of them.
I've try GE-Proton, experimental proton, proton 7, proton 6, proton 5... All have the same problem. I've try many command options and the glitch always return.
Heavy artifacting on icons in menu's. Also causing textures to stretch and glitch during gameplay.
Minor framedrops after loading in, will resolve within a minute.
It works fine, runs as it should, but occasionally crashes when launching, at least for me.
Sometimes crashes when launching for the first time and landing on the main menu. Usually works when I start the game again. Doesn't happen terribly often, maybe once for every 10 launches.
