gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=1 gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1
14 fps on lowest settings on a computer that could run fine on high settings on windows
Apparently it runs bad on windows too ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Игра пройдена и шла практически идеально. Был только один баг: игра не закрывалась при нажатии «Выход». Приходилось принудительно закрывать окно, но это не расстроило.

Everything works great right out of the box. Even though I didn't make any changes to the config files
gamemoderun %command%
В игре очень кривая работа геймпада, не зависимо от ОС.

This modification is mandatory to play the game at a high FPS (100 fps+)
gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=1
gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1

A great experience. Same or better performance than on Windows.
Given that this game has memory issues by default, since my distro uses less RAM than a typical Windows 10-11 installation, the memory issues start to appear later on and I'm able to ask for higher res textures and higher poly models without a performance penalty.
When comparing the same settings between Windows and GNU/Linux, I had a better or more stable performance on the latter.

Can't hold a steady 60 FPS presumably due to post-processing (Unity)
Follow the legendary PC Gaming Wiki tip and add these lines to boot.config located in the installation directory to get a slight FPS boost and reduce stutter:
gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=1
gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1
Drop your graphics settings to Medium in game (it looks fine, but sometimes textures will take a couple of seconds to pop in), set the FPS limit to 30 in Performance overlay to prevent your frames wildly jumping from 60 to 45 to 30 all the time (you will notice it and it will ruin your perception of performance, so just cap the frame rate, no need to use in-game vsync - there will be no tearing and also no choppy framerate).
Runs OK with a stable 30 FPS 95% of the time, playable from start to finish without any crashes or freezes, but be wary that after playing for a long time load times may increase and some indoor sequences may chug frames - just try to make it to a save point and restart the game if that happens to keep your progress.
This is a great game and I did not expect to enjoy it this much on the Deck. Gamepad controls are a bit clunky but it never gets too life-threatening, you don't lose that much speed compared to keyboard and mouse in intense situations.

The game's performance and stuttering seemed to be improved somewhat by adding the following lines to boot.config
in Pathologic_Data
in the game's installation directory:
gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1
gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=1
The game runs, but it's not a very well optimized game in general, and framerates swung wildly between 60 and 100 on my workstation, and would dip into the low 40s on my laptop.
When exiting the game, it doesn't close properly. Any other method will work fine though: close it from the Steam client, pkill it, force quit it through the desktop environment. It's annoying but hardly gamebreaking.
As mentioned, the overall performance of the game is the biggest issue. Even on powerful hardware the game's framerate can swing rather wildly. It's all part of that lovely jank.
Pretty incredible game otherwise, so try to stick with it.

keys jam
15-20 fps. Windows was 30
An overlooked masterpiece, plays great on Linux!
Strange shimmering artifacts appear on staircases in houses that go down. Nothing game breaking by any means but a minor distraction.
Changing Proton versions after beating the game wiped my profile, something to keep in mind if changing Proton versions mid-playthrough
Aside from some stutters and frame drops, which is apparently due to the game's optimisation, there are no real issues to report. It plays great from start to finish.
Perfectly playable
Fixing my old review with this, used to run really bad but now it's entirely playable.

Runs perfectly fine out of the box.
Only problem was that quitting the game did not close the application. I had to manually kill it via the Steam-client.
A fantastic game if you're up for the challenge
There were some slowdowns (from 60fps to ~45 fps) in the interiors and a few random places, however this is very likely due to the game itself, as its known for having poor optimalization.
I have experienced visual glitches which required a system restart when waking the computer after it snoozed while the game was running. However, I've had this with other games as well and I'm 99% sure it's an issue with Proton and system sleep on Linux, which is generally a botched feature.
Finished the game. After applying the configuration fix, the game played smoothly aside from infrequent stutter when traversing the map.
Per instructions in PC Gaming Wiki, open the file Pathologic_Data/boot.config
in the game's installation directory and add/change these lines:
gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=1
gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1
This increased FPS greatly and reduced the amount of stutter considerably. This change seems to help with performance regardless of the platform.
aside from the few stutters when first loaded a save it worked perfectly on my machine, ran way better than on windows.
changed the "gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=" to "gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1" in boot.config in /Pathologic/Pathologic_Data/ also allocated the game 4.5 gigs of ram instead of 2.5 gigs
One thing to note is that the game was using over 4 gigabytes of ram at all times
Ran okay, north of 30 FPS. I played about 2 hours and decided the game isn't for me, but it runs fine.
Not a problem with Linux, no steam cloud
Runs really well I have far less bugs then I had on Windows
I practically felt no difference in relation to the Windows version. The game is running and working very well.
Runs perfectly out of the box.
The game isn't very well optimized and is therefore quite difficult to run on older hardware, but this also seems to be true when playing the game on Windows. I have done three playthroughs on Linux so far and everything has worked perfectly.
No problems encountered with Proton 6.3.6
Had a minor lightning issue in one instance, hasn't reoccured at all since, most likely problem was on my side.
Game is always freezing on exit. I have to force close it every time
Everything is perfect
Other than the performance works like a charm.
The game has performance issues, so you will probably need to tinker in the settings.
My tips are:
- From my experience, most of the lag comes from shadows. The shadow distance option is your worst enemy, especially at night, decreasing it leads to much better performance (on my PC).
- Vsync - you can set it to 1/2 which really helps with how frame rate feels.
- It is really recommended to store game on the SSD. Otherwise, initial loading is pretty long. I also recommend opening the map (and other menus) right after starting the game, as it caches somehow, and then it works much faster, and it feels much nicer.
The game crashes occasionally, which can be annoying when you can save only in specific locations. Also, the game wouldn't stop when I would try to exit, I had to alt-tab to Steam client and stop it from there.
Constant frame rate hiccups, when indoors or outdoors. Turning down the graphics to Low made no difference. Modifying Pathologic/Pathologic_Data/boot.config
to make sure the following are set did improve the issue slightly.
gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1
gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=1
If you really want to play the game, despite all the performance struggles, set Vsync to 1/2 and a 30 fps cap. I did not try this and it may be why I experienced such slowdown.
Game would freeze if my computer went to sleep. I had to disable sleep.
Coming back after a time with proton 5.13 - runs perfectly this time!
It hangs every time when quitting and has to be forced. Otherwise works perfectly fine.
I think it's playable if you accept do quit and reenter from time to time.
Randomy gamepad stops working
Game hangs at exiting
By and large it is the same as my experience running the game on Windows. The steam overlay runs much better on Linux.
Having other programs maximized "behind" the game caused slowdowns. Minimizing all other windows made it run fine. This is more of an issue if another window has a video playing in it.
Everything works perfectly out of the box. A little slow in some areas, but overall fairly consistent.
Everything is perfect, except performance
Runs flawlessly.

Brings up a crash window, and then buggers off
Some crash information is produced in its respective wineprefix within the following subdirectories:
drive_c/users/steamuser/Temp/
drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/LocalLow/

Although the game isn't the best optimized game out there it still runs very similar to windows and is an amazing experience

The game never finishes loading, installing dlls doesn't help
Launched it using Lutris with Wine 5.9
