TDP-6
Despite having no issues installing the Chaos;Head Noah COZ pacth, I could not get it to install for this. First it gave me an error and said it couldn't find the polyversal script (the one I was clicking on), then I right clicked on it and set it to run and it worked. But after I selected Steins;Gate it said I had not yet run it with a Proton version (I had tried 8 first as it's the one it suggests, but neither that nor 8, nor 5 worked).
I tried installing the patch on PC and then copying the entire contents over, that did not work. The game worked, but the patch was not working.
But then I tried changing it to run with GE-Proton9-25 and it worked perfectly, with the COZ patch working too. Now it might be the installed would have worked with this Proton version but now I have it working I am not going to mess with it. Hope this helps others!

The game can't recover to fullscreen if alt-tabbed.
The game launched fine OOTB. However, as many here listed using the CoZ patch (http://sonome.dareno.me/projects/sghd.html) greatly enchances the experience. However, I had some difficulty with the install script and proton version that the game "supports" The installer script for Linux (https://github.com/CommitteeOfZero/polyversal-coz-linux-patcher) fails for me everytime which I believe is due to the protontricks flatpak used. I was able to run the main windows patcher executable by just installing wine from my repos and running it directly. Proton 8 would not load the patches but experimental works like a charm. Other than quirks installing CoZ the game, minus alt tabbing, works great.

gamemoderun PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=40 %command%
I played the game with the Commitee of Zero patch (heavily recommended for a more optimized experience), which was installed with the Polyversal script following these instructions. Overall seamless experience with the Proton version recommended by the CoZ patch (version 8) and the launch options specified above.

Works great out of the box.
For those that want to use the Committee of Zero patch to fix issues with the Steam release, there is a script and instructions on how to do so here: https://github.com/CommitteeOfZero/polyversal-coz-linux-patcher. It's perfectly playable with the patch as well!

一个背键被我设为esc了,可以方便退出游戏

PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=40 %command%
I used protontricks to install the Committee of Zero Patch
Adjusted controls to be more comfortable for me.
Limited TDP 6w. 60 FPS cap.
Launcher needed mouse emulation/touchscreen.
Fixed with PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=40 %command%

Works really great out of the box.

Played it with the Commitee of Zero Patch
Changed to 30fps
The game runs with and without the Committee of Zero Patch without problems.
Runs perfectly

Install the COZ Patch!
I could not use any proton version (including latest ge), besides Expiremental, was getting graphics errors before i could even reach the main menu.

The game runs fine with proton up to version 8.0-3, except the experimental version (the game takes minutes to load and the image is distorted).
In addition, i installed the Committee of Zero patch using protontricks to enhance the experience.
As previous users have reported, there is a noticeable crackling in the audio that comes and goes, most noticeable in the main menu. If you're using Pulse, try this command in the "launch options" section of the game's properties page. (You can also change the value. As i observed, the higher the value, the less crackles you'll get.): PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=40 %command%
Alternatively, you can try the solutions listed in this article: https://www.maketecheasier.com/fix-steam-games-cracking-sound-linux/
The highest resolution this game supports is 1080p. If you want to play it on a larger resolution, you have to upscale it yourself.

WINEDLLOVERRIDES=dinput8=n,b DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command%
Для русификации данной игры и ее успешного запуска необходимо прописать дополнительные параметры. Первая команда позволит запустить игру с русификатором. Вторая ограничивает фпс до 60, иначе игра может ускориться (по умолчанию она работает на 60).
The game only supports up to 1080p so use GE-Proton and WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1
to scale nicely with monitors over 1080p.
Crackled occasionally with my headphones but almost every game on my Steam Deck does this. Does not happen with other headphones, bluetooth speakers/headphones, or TV audio output
Steam Controller only when connected to the TV would sometimes "Drop Out". Did not happen when connected to the Steam Controller undocked, and this only affected my Steam Controller. Switch Pro Controllers were unaffected.
The game works flawlessly out of the box. However it is recommended to use a patch for the game which has various improvements. This is called the Committee of Zero patch, and you can install it by manually running the installer with the Wine executable that comes with Proton. SteamTinkerLaunch should also work using One-Time run.
Launcher requires touchscreen or mouse to start the game.
Control prompts are for keyboard only.
Runs perfectly and gets over 6 hours battery life. Control prompts are for keyboard but easy to figure out.
Missing several keys like phone key.
Have to emulate mouse to skip launch window
Saves are missing sometimes.
Working flawlessly

gamescope -w 1280 -h 720 -W 1920 -H 1200 -e -U -f -- %command%
Used winetricks to apply the Committee of Zero patch. Although it's for SG0, the guide is applicable to SG: https://sonome.dareno.me/projects/sg0-linux.html
I've observed while playing this game at fullscreen with a 1920x1080 resolution, the game's CPU usage doubles. To save battery while playing with those settings, one way is to install/use gamescope and enable AMD FSR for upscaling
Installed vcrun2017 for the Commitee of Zero patch
Added left and right mouse clicks to the backgrip
Proton 7.0 works with vanilla version of the game. However it seems incompatible with the commitee of zero patch as it keeps booting up the vanilia game. Running the patch and then the game with 5.0-10 however seems to work!
Using Committee of Zero Steam Patch!
http://sonome.dareno.me/projects/sg0-linux.html
Follow these instructions, but change the APPID from Steins;Gate 0 to Steins;Gate (825630 -> 412830) use Proton Version to 5.0-10.
You can get the patch from here: http://sonome.dareno.me/projects/sghd.html
It's a visual novel base on images and some text, not a big problem

%command% &> ~/steins.log
I met an error: "terminate called after throwing an instance of 'dxvk::DxvkError'" after started the game. After I installed "dxvk-bin" through paru, the game can start and play without any problems.
No workaround or patch is required to just play, however a community patch is recommended for a better experience.
Used protontricks to launch Wine explorer to install Committee of Zero patch, which fixes some translation issue and revert the font to a much more readable one.
Highly recommended to use Committee of Zero's patch for a better experience. https://sonome.dareno.me/projects/sghd.html
had to go into steam properties for the game and enter PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% into the launch options to run properly, otherwise it crashed when pressing play. Vulkan was not properly installed.
Aside from occasional crackling audio, there's no issues or problems with this game on Proton.
Despite what some others have said, there's still some crackling issues as of Proton 6.3-6. It comes and goes seemingly at random. It can get distracting at times especially when there's dialogue but no music, but it never lasts for long.
I was able to get all endings and achievements with no crashes or other technical issues. There's an improvement patch you can download but I didn't try it.
Highly recommend installing the Committee of Zero patch.
For that, I had to first install vcrun2017
(with winetricks
) and then run the patch using proton. And for the patch to work, I had to switch to proton version 5.0.10
.
Ran flawlessly out of the box
Using the latest version of proton and it seems all those audio crackling bugs have finally been sorted out. Also Luka best girl (male).
This VN probably doesn't need another platinum ranking since Valve has whitelisted it, but I figured this would be a good place to share that if you want to use the Steam Improvement Patch , you may want to avoid the Flatpak version of Steam. In that version, the game crashed for me after starting the came through the launcher once you've told Proton to use the version of dinput8 included in the game patch, which you need to do in order for the patch to work. As others have indicated, the patch works really well with the regular version of Steam, although I did have to use Proton 5.0 instead of the default of Proton 3.16 for this game in order to use winecfg
to use the correct dinput8 DLL. Otherwise the winecfg
GUI wouldn't open and Proton complained about missing some OpenVR file.
Everything works fine
Should work out of the box
Apart from some audio crackling works perfectly out of the box.
Apart from the mouse, everything works as it should. But it's a VN, so you do not even need the mouse (press F1 for keybindings).
Mouse does not work at all. The cursor disappears once in the main menu (i.e. it is only present in the introduction credits with studios and developers). The game is still playable with keyboard only though (press "F1" to check keybindings). I do not use my mouse to play VNs so I did not try to fix the issue. Everything else worked perfectly. If you are looking for a fix, it may be useful to know that I am using a tiling WM (bspwm) and not a DE.
Cleared all endings without having to tweak anything.
中文版本,游戏内字符显示完全正常,但启动界面无法显示中文字符,换用Proton 4.2可解决

Maybe you would like to add the improvement mod: http://sonome.dareno.me/projects/sghd.html
