Native Support
Although this game has a Linux-native build available, Steam does not list it as having Linux support. This can happen if a game has an unofficial, unfinished, or unsupported build. You may need to force Steam to enable Proton for the game in order to run properly.
Dropped Linux support
Epic just dropped Linux support for the game. No playing online anymore
Default Rocket Leauge install script and then changed it to point to the game's exe.
Just slightly slower than on windows, but bearable (+/- 5 fps on average.)
Sometimes ping would skyrocket to 99999, but it could also be my internet connection.
Since the game is delisted on Steam, Lutris and the Epic games launcher may be the only way to play it on linux now.
With compositing on, game feels like having Vsync on but still stable and playable. If you disable compositing, the game runs smooth. I get constant 360fps without drops, feels exactly like on windows. I was expecting input lag like some others have commented, but when compositing is off, there just isn't none. I play on a high level and would notice it.
Game feels like 60fps if you don't disable compositing, however its still stable. When compositing is disabled, I get 360fps with no drops or stutters. Feels exactly like windows. I have so many hours in this game that I was expecting to notice atleast some input lag like some have stated, but there just isn't none. Great experience.
Spiel läuft in Ordnung. Ich habe das gefühl, je länger eine Spielsitzung geht, desto schlechter wird die Performance.
Nach einer gewissen Zeit fängt das Spiel in manchen Situationen an zu laggen
Team Chat was not working with Audio
I had this game on Epic and Played with Heroic Launcher. Worked Well.
gamemoderun %command%
Everything is running very smooth for me now. Just remember to compile all your shaders before playing. I'm matching my refresh rate of 180hz all the time without issue and I don't feel any noticeable input lag at a high enough skill level to care about that.
Game sometimes freezing for 2 seconds
With borderless window the game lags for a second or two after switching between windows.
Video freezes, audio continues looping
I have tried many different proton versions through the Heroic wine manager - Wine-GE-Latest, Proton-GE-Latest, Proton Experimental, Proton Hotfix, Proton 9.0 (Beta). They all eventually freeze in the same way. I have experimented using other Wine settings with no success. This happens at any point during gameplay including training, local play, online matches and when waiting in between matches.
Works great!
The online play in Rocket League worked perfectly fine here
If you are using the steam version, make sure it's running with Proton
Input feels like you have VSync on, but it's much more playable when you change the Input settings in-game
Worked perfectly
Working Out of the box
gamescope -e -W 1920 -H 1080 -r 165.02 --mangoapp -- %command%
Worked out the box, easy 90fps
Rocket League cannot start, even after OS-Reinstall
Hey there! Tried everything, (no i wont switch Distro or DE for this matter) Reinstalled the game, tried with another Proton Version (even GE), cleared all Partition-Tables for all drives, Reinstalled the Operating System, disconnected all drives, but my Steam-Profile switches from "online" to "ingame" and in an Instant back to "online". Not even a Window appears, thanks for helping, M.
Rocket League doesnt start, even after OS-Reinstall
I tried everything (no i wont switch Distro or DE for this matter), tried Reinstalling the Game, deleted all partitions, Reinstalled the System, disconnected all drives, tried different Proton Versions, nothing. The game gets recognized, Steam says it should start, my profile switches from "online" to "ingame" and switches instant back to "online", not even opening a window. Would be nice, if someone could help me, arch has rn a problem with installing pipewire but idk. Thanks For help, M.
I would like to mention that while there is inevitably some increased input lag, even above diamond if you're using ge-proton its truly not that bad. Study strategy people!
You need to play this game through proton to play it at all. The native build is no longer supported. I was having some occasional audio crackles and frame drops on proton-experimental but these went away using ge-proton.
Kontroler Xbox PowerA - brak input laga, fps porównywalne z Windowsem. Ustawienia ultra FHD bez MSAA
Out of the box better then Windows
For me the game felt more smooth then on Windows where i got lag spikes, not happening on linux.
If you're diamond or below you will be fine with playing this. Anything higher and you will be at a significant disadvantage.
Lag on controller. If you're diamond or below you won't notice it but anything higher and it will be a hinderance to your gameplay.
This game applies a 750MB patch every time it is launched or exited. It can take upwards of 5 minutes to actually launch the game depending on your internet speed.
Lag in game with controller.
I have tried this with an external screen and peripherals, and the lag is still noticeable. Also, it applying a 750MB patch before launching every time is very annoying.
Make sure to set the game to force proton experimental in the game properties on steam, otherwise you cannot play multiplayer
It just works. I get 165 FPS (my monitor's refresh rate) in 1440p.
Compared to Windows slightly laggier
Without Proton overlay, the game doesn't let you in multiplayer thanks to Epic Games
No multiplayer from Epic games
it crashed on me once instead of leaving the match
just make sure you force the use of proton experimental, otherwise it installs an offline-only extremly old version of the game
Works perfectly, even with BakkesMod
If you want BakkesMod just follow this guide: https://github.com/CrumblyLiquid/BakkesLinux
You will be ok if you're just playing casual, but the input and frame lag will be noticeable.
Game will be laggy, no matter how you run it. I have set everything to low and lowered my resolution, still has lag in game. This could be due to servers or hardware, but if you're anything above Diamond you will be hindered by the deck's performance, even with an external monitor.
The game launches for 20-30 seconds with a black window. The intro song plays but it crashes or automatically closes the window.
__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia %command%
Game crashes after 30 secs - Intro music audible till then
Parfait, out-of-the-box !!
Worked normal
Pre-8 version proton seem to run better on Debian with X11 in my experience, and this game is no different.
You'd think newer versions of proton was better in every way, but I had to roll back proton versions to before 8 in order to get smooth enough performance to play online. I'm not using the flatpak version of steam, but Debian is using 'stale' packages, so who knows if that's why I need older versions of proton as well.
Multiplayer not supported
You can play singleplayer, but you cannot play multiplayer on linux. This game does not deserve its platinum rating anymore.
Only thing you have to do is switch to forced experimental, otherwise it runs an older version of the game. It runs really well
Not quite bugs but serious limitations. You see, starting from some unspecific point in the past native Linux version is "local coop only"...
Thanks gods it's not in the store anymore.
