As with all non-native games, run this off of a drive using the ext4 file system.
Excellent
Some hitching here and there but that's not Proton's fault
As with all other non-native games, run this on a hard drive using the ext4 file system.
Some stuttering here and there at unexpected times.
Performance is a bit inconsistent but for the most part it's on par with playing it on Windows 10.
Following this guide (https://gamepretty.com/batman-arkham-city-goty-how-to-uncap-your-fps-save-editing/), I was able to finally get a framerate above 62 fps. The game finally runs acceptably. You have to edit BaseEngine.ini, DefaultEngine.ini, and UserEngine.ini. Once I made the edits to all three by changing Min and MaxSmoothFrameRate to 120 and 144 fps respectively, it actually ran great.
Really hitchy here and there without the config edits.
Make sure you edit the config files and then you're good to go!
Made the changes in this guide to reduce stuttering: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=467817222
Sometimes it hitches here and there but as long as you follow along with the config file edits, they are almost unnoticeable.
Some config edits required to reduce stuttering. Also it's best to turn on Vsync to further enhance stability. Only downside is this locks the framerate to 60fps, but it does make the experience more consistent.
DXVK_ASYNC=1 bash -c 'exec "${@/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe/Build\/Final\/BioshockHD.exe}"' -- %command% -nointr
Some weird artifacting near the beginning when there's a flashing light effect.
Very stable once you get past the 2K launcher
%command% -oldgameui
Screen flickering. Setting the launch options as I've described and making the lighting "Potato" in the settings fixed this.
Some poor screen tearing despite toggling Vsync on and off. Windowed borderless doesn't appear to solve the issue. I am using a high refresh rate monitor as well.
Stutters in places. Not overly well optimized
Needs some tweaking with the graphics settings but is a good experience overall. Proton runs better than Native, which had a terrible framerate
Forced the Proton version instead of Native
Some lighting errors
A bit stuttery here and there
Native has lighting bugs
By default it slows to a crawl. Makes aiming and movement difficult
When in darkness some characters look weird, and cables/ropes seem to fade in and out of existence.
Some weird mouse smoothing in the menus.
Stutters, including audio crackling
Significant stuttering makes it mostly unplayable.
Excellent
Before launch an info window pops up talking about how my GPU doesn't support DLSS, however after clicking "ok" twice it lets me into the game. Weird but not a hindrance.
No problem getting this going whatsoever
+set r_fullscreen 1 +set com_skipintrovideos 1
Some textures don't load in at all.
Mouse lag seemed to correct itself after messing around with graphics settings, restarting the game, etc. It fixed itself after the second time I booted up the game.
It seems that Proton only works when you are running a game off of a drive using the ext4 file system. Other file systems won't let non-native games run at all, in my experience.
Just as good as it was on windows
It crashes due to taking out the long line of enemies before choosing your ending, but that issue is due to the game and not to Proton.
Great time no tweaks required
Bad performance
Menu runs at 20-30fps and gameplay is about 40-45 fps. Considering my rig this is ridiculous, and none of the graphics options seem to help (including disabling/re-enabling Vsync)
Poor performance in-game and in the menus.
Native version runs at 10fps. Switched to Proton Experimental and that fixed it.
Native version runs terribly; Proton version runs perfectly.
Doesn't start
Tried different versions of Proton, none of those worked.
Excellent experience
Several frames lost during cutscenes which is odd given my specs
Selected the "Anti-Cheat disbabled" option on launch
Without selecting the "anti-cheat" disabled option on launch this is a slow unstable mess. However once you do select that option achievements are now working. Good experience overall.
/dxadapter=0 /borderless=0 /dx11
Very stable with GE Proton and once I set the right options
eval $(echo "%command%" | sed "s/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe'.*/mafiadefinitiveedition.exe'/")
Just make sure you skip the 2K launcher. Beyond that it works perfectly out of the box.
Minor issues but otherwise good
Some pre-rendered cutscenes are without audio, wasn't able to find a fix online
I had to re-enable the window borders many times during the playthrough, such as when using Steam Overlay
Some problems with audio and the window border
Excellent experience on Linux
Some stuttering here and there but ootb runs perfectly.
As with all non-native games, run it off of a hard drive using the ext4 file system.
Excellent
Occasional and very minor hitching
Set UseJoystick and UseXboxJoystick to false in the .ini file, otherwise your cursor will be permanently stuck in the top left corner.
You will have to select the desired resolution twice to get it to work properly.
Mouse would be stuck in top left corner if not for the .ini fix.
Hitches here and there
A little finicky but no major tweaking required.
Occasional hitching
Great experience all around
Doesn't launch at all.
I've tried almost every version of Proton, even GloriousEggroll's latest release (at time of writing).
Even viewing the menu slowed the game down to a single digit framerate.
As with any other non-native game, please run it off of a drive using the ext4 file system as other file systems do not work.
I followed these instructions from another user. I went to $HOME/.steam/steamapps/compatdata/2310/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Saved Games/Nightdive Studios/Quake/kexengine.cfg file and changed the r_rhirenderfamily
variable from vulkan
to d3d11
.
This appeared to fix the lag completely.
Run this off a drive running the ext4 file system.
Had to move the files containing "pak" from the base game directory/Main into RealRTCW/Main. The report below me has more detailed instructions. Other than that it worked like a dream!
It won't run unless you copy/paste the "pak" files in to the "Main" folder in RealRTCW. Please see the report prior to mine for more details.
As with all other non-native games, run this off of a drive using the ext4 file system.
some weird mouse sensitivity
Some issues with the mouse but was stable otherwise.
Removed intro videos using the Fast Launch mod
Some weird artifacting here and there
Some weird graphical glitches but other than that, no issues
Once during one mission the sound turned off completely and then momentarily returned. Other than that, nothing.
It has to be shut off manually every single time. It doesn't exit properly. It doesn't harm my save games but it's nonetheless odd.
Somewhat buggy but very solid
Excellent aside from broken movies
Menu is locked to 30 fps
Pre-rendered cutscenes are broken, in a weird color and are duplexed, yet small, so it looks like you're seeing the same cutscene played tiled, and in a weird color
I tried several versions of Proton, all with the same cutscene issue. Luckily it plays amazingly at 600+ FPS on my rig.
men_bShowIntroCutscene = 0 +men_iMaxAllowedFPS 120
No audio at all until you switch the Sound API to OpenAL
A bit slow in places
Despite audio issue and weak performance it works well
+skipintro
Chugs along despite my rig
Doesn't work well
Audio is sometimes out of sync with cutscenes.
Some stuttering upon entering certain areas.
Hopefully it can be optimized to reduce stuttering, but it's still totally playable.
Works perfectly well. Very limited graphics options but it is extremely stable.
Utterly unplayable
After launch the screen flashes white and freezes my entire machine.
Doesn't launch. Thank goodness OpenMW is a thing because that launched and plays flawlessly.
gamemoderun WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=3:0,1,2 %command%
FrameRateLimit=120.000000
Seemed to be locked at a low framerate before editing a config file
Locked at a low FPS until I edited GameUserSettings.ini
skiplogos
Disabling v-sync seems to have fixed the white flashing.
Could use some tweaking but overall it was fine
Unplayable
Despite running several versions of Proton (even 7.50 of GE) the game refuses to work - I get as far as a character portrait and it either hangs indefinitely or crashes before I can even see the main menu. I tried the AMD commands listed in earlier posts but that just prevents it from starting altogether.
Upon starting, a screen filled with color bars, like you might see on TV when a channel is down, appears before the main menu. Click or hit enter and it will take you to the main menu. It will also flash briefly on screen when exiting the game.
As with all non-native games, ensure you are running it off of a drive using the ext4 file systems. Other file systems appear to prevent Proton from working.
Horrific performance problems from the get go. Lowering graphics settings does little and it never goes above 20fps in game.
Terrible performance makes this unplayable. Might have to do with the fact I'm using an AMD card.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command% +com_skipintrovideo 1
20-30 fps regardless of how I tweak the graphics settings. id5tweaker does nothing.
No amount of switching Proton versions or id5tweaking will get this game to run above 22 fps in game.
