The Windows version works very well without problems, but for a better experience i suggest using the open source engine "OpenMW".
Ran better than windows

"/home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Morrowind/openmw.sh" %command%
openmw-launcher.sh can be used instead. The resolution wasn't 1920 x 1080 when I first launched and caused some display problems but otherwise eveyrthing is ok.

maybe look into OpenMW if you want to improve the game. i played on vanilla and it ran as expected

Use Luxtorpeda (install it with ProtonUp-Qt), it will automatically install & integrate OpenMW with Steam
Can use standalone OpenMW but it is much easier to integrate with Steam via Luxtorpeda. To get Luxtorpeda, install ProtonUp-Qt or ProtonPlus (basically compatibily tool managers). Morrowind runs awesome with OpenMW, not even one single crash happened.
openmw %command%

Works fine out of the box. OpenMW is still reccomended for even further performance boosts, bug fixes, and graphical enhancements

On steam it is very poor, it works but I cannot go into full screen and i am stuck on 1080x720 resolution but works perfectly on OpenMW.
As I mentioned in my summary, on OpenMW it works perfectly, full screen works great, you are not locked on a specific resolution and there is more variety in terms of graphical and gameplay options, I highly recommend playing it using OpenMW and not through proton.

PROTON_ENABLE_D8VK=1 %command%
Have tried both with openmw and vanilla. If vanilla (or any use of MWSE ie via modlists), be sure to add the flag PROTON_ENABLE_D8VK=1 as this is an older game and you will encounter slowness, high resource draw without it

When playing through OpenMW, you can safely limit the TDP to 3 watts and you will have a stable 60 fps. Moreover, the game's battery life will increase
I strongly recommend installing Luxtorpeda and specifying it in the compatibility settings to download OpenMW, which is native to Linux. With it, the game will work perfectly, and the use of Proton will not be required. Moreover, with OpenMW you will have gamepad support (currently partial)

GPU 200Mhz, TDP 5W with half-rate shading, without vertical sync, and with stretched scaling mode, limited to 40Hz and 40fps (stays stable)
Can be played natively with the openMW launcher, however it has bugs when reading some textures, creating crashes, running with proton 8.0-5 I had no problems in all my hours of play

A quick and easy tutorial to setup Morrowind on Linux with OpenMW;
- Download and run ProtonUp-Qt (you have the option of AppImage or Flatpak).
- In ProtonUp-Qt, from the available versions list pick Luxtorpeda and download/install it.
- In Steam, go-to Morrowind properties and select "run with a compatibility tool", pick Luxtorpeda.
- Launch the game through Steam, now in the prompt that appears find and select OpenMW and download/install/configure it.

I installed the steam version using the version of Proton automatically selected to acquire a copy of the game's data files to use with OpenMW, a Linux native game engine replacement. I additionally installed portmod for mod management. https://search.nixos.org/packages?channel=unstable&show=openmw&type=packages&query=openmw
To install as a system-wide package:
environment.systemPackages = with pkgs; [ openmw portmod ];
To install for a single user in a Home Manager module:
home.packages = with pkgs; [ openmw portmod ];

Limited TDP to 7
Use Luxtorpeda as a Steam Play compatability tool to launch OpenMW through Steam. You can install Luxtorpeda through protonup-qt.
I highly recommend Tamriel Rebuilt and Morrowind Enhanced Textures for Vanilla+ playthroughs.

Limited TDP to 7
I highly recommend Tamriel Rebuilt and Morrowind Enhanced Textures.

Для локализации - сделал копирование с заменой файлов с оригинального образа от 1С. До OpenMW руки не дошли.

openmw %command%
Замена файлов игры на retail версию 1С
На ваниле игра тоже работает, но я не особо много играл на ней.

40fps
Not to bad but slightly to small
Use KB/M emulation.
Works out of the box
All the issues I had (crashes, resolution, windowing) are all present on the Windows version if played vanilla (no mods of any kind).
Works great on deck
Used Lutris to install the game with OpenMW-- fixes so many problems (including any linux compatability issues) and looks/plays excellent.
Game generally runs fine on deck with minor adjustments but completely enjoyable with default settings with joysick setting enabled in set.
640 x 480 resolution to improve readability
5 w cap. 500 mhz on graphics
Dialogue text small at 768p, switched to 480p improved readability
crashed once in 30 hours of playtime
Game works great. Change settings mainly for preferences or control changes

Download Luxtorpeda from ProtonUp-qt and force Luxtorpeda in Morrowind Properties.
Use OpenMW Latest
Mapped Space to right trackpad click. F5, F9, Scroll Down, Scroll Up to bumpers. Hair trigger E key with turbo on left trigger.
OpenMW doesn't perfectly map everything to controller and you will sometimes need to mouse around.
Use protonup-qt to install Luxtorpeda and use that as the compatibility layer. You'll get a native linux version running through OpenMW and it works beautifully. Native controller support is pretty decent, but you can really make it great by customizing with Steam Input.
Works great with a good controller config. Would recommend mods to touch up the experience
Changed back grips to add quicksave/load
Slight stuttering, though it wouldn't surprise if it was just because I was running completely base morrowind with no changes at all. Could very easily be fixed and then some with mods.
TDP 8
Text is a little small but readable.
Occasional dips when loading cells.
The game works great on OpenMW with installed mods from NexusMods. Default proton version does so as well.
For the record here are the mods from NexusMods I installed Official Plugins -1.0 Patch for Purists - 4.0.2 Better Dialogue Font - 1 Delayed DB Attack V2 - 2.1 Solstheim Rumor Fix - Fixed - Fixed - 1.0 Morrowind Optimization Patch - 14 Correct UV Rocks - 1.5 Project Atlas - 0.7.2 VSBR Vanilla style body replacer - 1.0 Weapon Sheathing - 1.6 OpenMW Containers Animated - 1.2.2 Graphic Herbalism - MWSE and OpenMW Edition - 1.04 Glow in the Dahrk - 3.0.3 More Detailed Places - 07.2016 Mountainous Red Mountain - 1
set right trackpad as mouse left click so it's easier to use ui
set gui scaling factor to 1.50 under advanced/interface in the openmw launcher to make the text/ui more comfortable
Install protonup-qt from the discover store in desktop mode, then luxtorpeda within it, then go back to gaming mode and under settings/compatiblity for morrowind set the compatiblity tool to luxtorpeda. This will allow you to use the openmw engine to play morrowind which is a open source linux version with better performance, graphic options, and native controller support that works on steam deck

Taskbar is visible at the bottom in fullscreen using the latest Proton (7 as of this report). A downgrade to Proton 5 fixes this.
The game runs great, same as my previous report indicated. Just don't use the latest Proton version (7) if you don't want to see your PC's taskbar at all times. I feel that while newer games are greatly improved by each Proton release, some older games like this one are best run with older versions, and in the case of Morrowind, there really isn't anything to fix with a Proton version change or upgrade. Any bugs or annoyances also exist on Windows, being an older title.
Morrowind runs a little sluggish on modern hardware (considering the game was made in 2002)
Just use OpenMW, its a FOSS recreation of the Morrowind engine for 64-bit computers
Fullscreen was limited
Occasional Stuttering
Just use https://openmw.org/en/ its easier and is made for 64-bit systems. I'm not sure if you can install via Steam Deck and get it integrated (but I would love confirmation)
