Läuft soweit!
Erst kein Ton. Nach dem herumprobieren mit dem Audiocodec in den Optionen und einem Neustrart ging es. Pulseaudio.
Tabbing out causes game to crash. Attempting to put into borderless windows also causes a crash.
Initially crashed on entering lobby, but after a reboot it seemed to work
Game initially would not start up, a reinstall seemed to fix this.
Game crashes on start up
Excellent experience
No issues at all
I mistakenly wrote in my previous report that the sound API should be set to Alsa, instead it should be set to Openal.
If the graphics API is set to Vulkan, the vegetation flickers.
As previously written, perfomance isn't great.
Audio doesn't work unless you set it to ALSA.
Performance isn't very good due to poor optimization.

As with all Serious games make sure to enable mouse smoothing in game option, or movement/display is real jerky. Thought it was display problem until I remembered mouse smoothing. Not Proton specific, same in windows and all previous Serious games, feature? Drivers: AMDGPU, VK_AMDVLK, Mesa 1.23.2.1-2,

select openal
game is still not optimized for linux, visible stuttering. ss4 is way more optimized

Seriously Great
Audio API must be set to XAudio2 2.7 or OpenAL in the in-game audio settings menu. Leaving it at the default (XAudio2 2.9) will result in no sound at all.
Using the Vulkan graphics API caused flickering shadows on trees. Using Direct3D 11 works fine.
When alt-tabbing out of the game and returning, the game will remain paused/frozen until you alt-tab out and back in a second time.
At first launch, there is an error message that tells me that I need to update my graphics driver to run the game. I already have the most recent Nvidia driver. It literally says "Press cancel to continue" and that works without problems.
DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 gamemoderun %command%
The default audio XAudio 2.9 doesn't work, however this can be easily fixed by changing the audio system to XAudio 2.7 or OpenAL.
There will be some hitching when loading saves, stutters and dropped frames, but this is also the case on Windows as it appears to be an engine problem. But with Esync disabled it's a much smoother ride, definitely performs better than Serious Sam 4.
Needs manually settings OpenAL in the sound options, otherwise there's no sound.
Changed to Vulkan. Tested Proton 7, Experimental, GE-7-38 - all have the same issue: game completely hangs when switching virtual desktops (I have separate workspaces for non-game stuff but IIRC, I've tested switching windows after reading the reports here and IIRC, GE-Proton fixed that, but not switching desktops). I finished the game on GE-Proton and everything worked fine, but had to exit out of the game each time I needed to do anything else.
However, this is probably an issue with Nvidia driver, because there's always an error in dmesg: "[drm:nv_drm_fence_context_create_ioctl [nvidia_drm]] ERROR [nvidia-drm] [GPU ID 0x00000100] Failed to allocate fence signaling event". I haven't tried work-arounds like blacklisting nvidia_modeset module, but I still blame the driver (520.56.06 at the time of writing) - user-mode program can't be allowed to cause kernel errors.
Runs great. It has some optimization issues, make sure you have a really good CPU to run, these issues are present on Windows as well.
%command% +gfx_strAPI "Vulkan" +sfx_strAPI "OpenAl"
Had to force OpenAL. You can set it using launch options or in-game settings. XAudio 2.7 works as well but XAudio 2.9 (default option) doesn't work.
Game runs great, had to change XAudio to OpenAL on audio options, and also changed the graphical API to Vulkan, which works better.
The editor however, has several issues.
- While on Vulkan, it don't open without a custom library to ignore X11 errors
- Even when it opens, tabs have several rendering issues.
- While on Direct3D11, it has random crashes, also due X11 errors, but even if you manage to ignore those errors, it hangs everything.
- If you disable DXVK it runs without errors, but can't use the simulation since everything is rendered black.
Change audio to OpenAL. Alt-tabbing temporarily hangs the game, alt tabbing to it a second time unfreezes it, odd.
%command% +sfxapi OpenAL +gfxapi VLK
Put "%command% +sfxapi OpenAL +gfxapi VLK" into start options for sound to work properly.
a bit laggy on highest settings and completly playable ~150 fps on lowest settings
Performance varied between fine and, uh, somewhat playable.
Started the game with "%command% +sfxapi OpenAL +gfxapi VLK", based on my experience with Serious Sam 4. My full playthrough of Siberian Mayhem: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGUngjVLEvWUlbo4tfQpohkYrrz4hQZHW
Have to set audio driver to OpenAL
KDE overlay (eg. for volume buttons) hangs the game
Aalt-Tab or KDE overlay icons hang the game. The game often hangs during level loading.
Fun game that works out of the box, just switch audio to OpenAL and video to Vulkan
Only OpenAL produces sound
Some of my saves just stopped loading halfway through when starting the game from a cold start, but loading an older one usually resolved this. Happened 3 times in 10 hours of gameplay.
The same with Serious Sam 4: microstutters and inconsistent FPS, although patch 1.01 improved it a lot
With Proton-GE 7.1-GE-2 (build 1643711986) GloriousEggroll the answer is yes, you will now have a fairly positive experience.

Considering I'm running an Intel I-7 10870H CPU & Nvidia 3080 GPU, I'm surprised I have drops below 60-FPS while in 4K at Maxed Out Settings.
I've had only 1 crash so far in 3.6-hours of gameplay so far. I set my CPU to 4GHZ, and I set my GPU to full performance, so far so good.
When this game first came out, it was 100% borked for Linux players. Then a week later, the game could launch and play, but no sound, despite changing to OPENAL. Now 2-weeks later, the game launches, plays fairly well, and has sound. I'm not sure if its the game developers making the fixes, or our folks here at Proton. Whoever it is, I truly thank them. This game is one of the best games I've played in awhile. Its now an enjoyable experience.
Audio = 50% Of A Games Experience. Without Audio, You Lose 50% Of That Experience. Until Audio Is Fixed, This IS A Bad Experience.

Common Recommendation To Switch Audio To OpenAL: This Did Not Work - I Still Have No Audio!
The audio is totally broken.
No audio at all after some tinkering with audio settings in Linux and the different API's in game.
The game has the option to choose Vulkan for graphics. After choosing that and OpenAL. It was smooth sailing for me.
Choose OPENAL for audio and that will solve the issue
Audio is not working. Fix is to select OPENAL in game options.
This game fails to launch on every PROTON version that I've tried. Upon launch, it crashes.
Launching Steam via terminal, reveals that the game may not be able to detect my GPU, as the possible cause for the crashing. I have an MSI GE76-231 Raider notebook, dual GPU, but I have system set to use Nvidia 3080 GPU only. This game is borked - unplayable!
Runs just as well as and smooth Serious Sam 4.
Didn't work with Xaudio 2.9 but when switching from within the sound settings to Xaudio 2.7 and Openal audio worked. I kept it on Openal because it sounded better.
Works well with Proton Experimental (and probably others). You must select OpenAL for the sound output and I recommend Vulkan for graphics.
You MUST select the OpenAL sound system from the in-game settings/sound menu, otherwise there will be no sound.
Minor stuttering at the start of the game (probably texture-caching), fine after; however I also switched from the DirectX11 graphics backend to Vulkan, in-game. This may have contributed to a smoother game.
If presented with the pop-up that your drivers are out of date, click cancel to continue.

I had no audio with XAudio. Selecting OpenAL in the settings fixed the problem.
Performance is poor considering the hardware; occasional stutters (probably shader compilation). Performance is better with Vulkan.
