Works actually slightly better than the native version on my system, because the native version has some mouse issues and the win/proton version doesn't. Performance is the same as native version (they both have very bad performance).
Played the EGS version.
Changing the resolution took a few tries. After that no issues.
I have the game on Ubisoft Connect, so I installed UConnect in Heroic Game Launcher, and then installed and run the game in UConnect.
Works good: no issues, no crashes (played 11 hours so far), good performance.
After alt-tabbing back to the game, the Esc key doesn't work. Press Alt-Enter twice to get it working again. Also border-less window didn't work.
I played the Epic Game Store (installed with Lutris) version with Proton 4.11. It works very well: performance is very good, only 1 crash in +/- 30 hours of play, no serieus issues besides the Esc key not working after alt-tabbing back.
I had to use PROTON_USE_WINED3D, otherwise the game won't start.
Disabled esync and added -nointro to launch options. No issues, except 3 or 4 crashes in +/- 10 hours of play (considering the many people complaining about crashes with this game on Windows, this doesn't seem too bad) and changing the brightness does not work.
Works perfectly and out of the box.
The native version is unplayable for me because of broken controls (a known issue with the Linux version, although not everyone is affected).
Played only 40 minutes. No issues, except screen tearing (turn on "Force Full Composition Pipeline" in nvidia-settings to fix that)
unset XDG_CONFIG_HOME; unset XDG_DATA_HOME; %command%
If XDG_CONFIG_HOME or XDG_DATA_HOME is set, progression is not saved.
Opening the Steam workshop from within the game does not work. Installing mods can be done directly in Steam.
As others already noted, the cinematics don't play. Aside from that, the game runs very well.
Played the EGS version with Heroic.
I first used vanilla Proton Experimental, but about an hour into the game there is a (quicktime?) video which made the game crash. After switching to Proton-GE, there were no problems.
After using winecfg to enable a virtual desktop with the size of my screen, I could click the start button. After that the game can be played and seems to work without issue.
Hair looks bad and faces look weird. The option for high-quality hair doesn't make a difference and doesn't seem to do anything.
Performance is not great.
Played the EGS version.
No issues, runs great with dx11 enabled. The only thing is the game hangs for about 2 minutes when exiting.
Frequent hangs during loading.
After loading (both when starting the game and between levels) the game frequently hangs, crashes or shows a black screen and needs to be killed and restarted. This happens most of the time. With esync disabled this happens less often, but without esync the performance is really bad, with frequent stuttering/lagging. Once the game finally successfully loads, it actually works quite well. I finished the game, but the loading issue made it an frustrating experience.
--skip-launcher
No issues with single player. Didn't try multiplayer.
No issues.
The native version has problems with multiple monitors setups. Running with proton works perfectly.
Played the EGS version, without DLC. No Issues encountered.
Played the EGS version.
It can be a bit tricky to get working. I use bBackgroundMouse=1, PROTON_NO_ESYNC, protontricks xact and protontricks sound=alsa. Perfectly playable, no sound issues, but hangs on exit and the built-in mod manager doesn't work.
Playable and enjoyable if you can ignore the shader compilation stutters.
The game sometimes stutters in new areas or when starting a cut scene. In general the performance is not great.
The sound becomes distorted after playing for a few minutes. Performance is all over the place: sometimes it runs well and sometimes there are major lags and pauses.
Doesn't work
Tried the EGS version. When starting the game I only get a black screen. Tried several Proton, Proton-GE and Wine-GE versions, but no dice. mf-install didn't help either.
Reported previously that the game didn't work for me. I decided to try again, with GE_proton8-23, and now the game works without issues.
Runs perfect, expect for the loading screen getting stuck (happens very rarely)
The game mostly works, but: 1) The performance is much worse than is to be expected from a game with this level of graphics, and 2) the game sometimes crashes (every 2 or 3 hours or so).
Also the launcher doesn't exit on exiting and has to be killed, running the game from the launcher sometimes results in no sound and the launcher doesn't correctly identify the size of the video memory. Using protontricks to set the correct vidmem size doesn't seem to result in better performance tough.
All in all: playable, but with issues.
- I played the normal (not enhanced) edition from EGS with DX11 (DXVK).
- I had to disable the in game vsync. With vsync enabled the FPS would drop below 30 in open areas. With vsync disabled the FPS was 75 (the fps limit I have set in MangoHUD) in the same areas.
- No other issues, no crashes. Alt-tabbing works.
Too bad the resolution must be set by editing a file, as others have already mentioned, because otherwise this would be a solid Platinum. 12 hours in, not a single crash or issue. Performance is good.
Black screen with cursor only
Starts but hangs on "Loading..." after choosing "Start".
Some textures/images in the menus are pixelated. In general not a big problem, but it makes prices unreadable when buying stuff from vendors.
I played the Epic Games version with Proton experimental and Heroic Launcher. Apart from the pixelation in the menus, no issues encountered. Performance is good, alt-tabbing works, no crashes.
Can't connect
Played the EGS version.
Crashes every 1 or 2 hours. When alt-tabbing back in, the game is very dark, making it impossible to play, and has to be restarted.
No issues, aside from the usual shader compilation stutters in a few places. Performance is good. Not a single crash in 10+ hours. Alt-tabbing in and out also works good.
Finished the game without a single crash or issue. Performance is fairly good. There is however one issue outside of the game itself: if I open the Extra's menu (collectibles) the performance tanks and doesn't recover, requiring restarting the game.
Always crashes shortly after starting
Works, but performance is so bad even on lowest settings that the game is basically unplayable.
I played the game from the Humble Games Collection.
Getting the Humble launcher working from Steam is a bit tricky. I looked at NonSteamLaunchers-On-Steam-Deck to get it working.
Once the Humble launcher works, the game can be installed and played without issues.
Played the EGS version.
Had to change the executable from STASIS2.exe
to NON_EOS_VERSION_STASIS2/STASIS2.exe
. Otherwise all ingame texts were replaced by error messages. Apparently the EOS overlay causes issues on Windows too with this game, see here.
Only the UI/overlay is shown over a black background.
Tried the EGS version with default Proton 7 and also with Wine-lutris-6.14-4, GE-Proton 7-27, Proton 4.11 and Proton Experimental. The result is always the same: an UI is shown over a black screen.
Sometimes the background audio is crackling.
Played the EGS version.
Aside from the audio issue no other issues. I experienced no major frame drops or performance issues.
Game starts, but the intro flickers horribly and after the intro the screen stays black.
Played the Epic Games version with Heroic and Proton Experimental. No issues.
Played the EGS version with Heroic.
The game doesn't exit cleanly. No other issues.
The only issue I have is that the mouse doesn't work in the menu (keyboard works, so it's not a problem)
Didn't work
Tried several versions of Proton, Proton-GE and Wine-GE. Always get a black screen or the game quits immediately after start.
WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=2:0,1 %command%
Needed to limit the number of cores with WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY, as others have already mentioned. Even with that, my fans started getting loud in some areas and weirdly enough also when talking to companions. Limiting the framerate is the only thing that keeps the fans nice and quiet.
Played the EGS version with DLCs installed.
Needed to disable mouse acceleration in KDE, otherwise the mouse in game was to sensitive.
I played the Epic Games Store version with Heroic and Proton Experimental.
Played the EGS version with Heroic.
Game worked out of the box (including the UPlay launcher), except the in game sound: no matter what I try, I have no sound at all or distorted sound (tried installing xact, using Pulse Audio or ALSA, setting to Windows XP, ESYNC off). Without sound the game is not reasonably playable IMO.
Worked out of the box. 6 hours in, no issues found. Performance is great.
