The game has a native port and people recommend using proton, so what should you do? By default, without ticking any compatibility tools, the steam will download the Windows version of the game, but won't launch it with proton, making the game unlaunchable.
At this point you have Two options: 1 - Use proton and thus, the windows version of the game. 2 - You want to play the native port but you're confused, as no documentation's available online.
If you want to use the linux port, uninstall the game, then go in the properties of the game, then tick the "Steam linux runtime" as the compatibility tool. This will show steam you want to use the linux port of the game. Then re-install the game. Once that's done, the linux port will be downloaded and ready to launch.
Now you probably noticed i used extra-launch arguments. Those are optional, their purposes are to use Zink (to let the game run OpenGL on Vulkan), and the activation of Feral's Gamemode.
The game runs really great on proton, and according to the game original release date, i'm surprised (in a good way).
The game runs perfectly fine, without any issues. The multiplayer is fun with friends.
Game runs well, but you should consider running the game in DX12 mode (check settings), it really helps with freezes.

The game works, yes, but it still has some issues in native, since it doesn't have a linux port. Try it at your own risk.
mangohud "../Portal 2/portal2.sh" -game "../Aperture Tag/aperturetag" # %command% -refresh 144 +fps max 144 -nojoy
Lots of display issues since this mod doesn't have a true linux port. So set the game in "windowed" and rely on your window manager to set it in fullscreen instead.
loading saves from the main menu doens't work, so make sure to either complete the game in one shot or stop when changing chapters.
The launch argument part before "%command%" -except for mangohud- is required for the game to launch in native. As stated, the game doesn't have a native port so we rely on the base game's executable.
Without Lyall's fix, it works well. Though i would recommend it as it brings a lot of enhancements to the game.

Well, most of sounds are missing but the game is playable, i had no framerate loss, and no crashes.
during my gameplay i could hear secondary sounds (ambiances, jingles, characters speeches) but i couldn't hear either fire weapons sounds; menus sounds; zombies sounds; walking sounds or interactions sounds.
I used Proton experimental and i've activated the "precashed shaders" option in the video settings.
The sounds are back with the new non-experimental version of proton ! Now the game works perfectly ! 10/10 out of the box.
The game launches, but about 10 seconds after being in the menus, the game crashes with an "Unhandled exception" error.
The game works great, out of the box. Nothing to say, it's BO2 zombies. Yet it's still sad to see how the game is dead...

Here's a cool trick:
Since cyberpunk is quite hard to run on a gtx 1060, you can enable the AMD FSR on Proton GE, just write "WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR_STRENGTH=4 %command%" as a launch argument (at the very beginning), you can also add "--launcher-skip" after the FSR command to skip the Gog launcher.
Once you're in the game, activate the AMD CAS resolution scaling to about 70-80% and the FSR will upscale the game for you, giving you a better framerate. Using that method, i run the game at 40-50 fps in ultra, at 1080p.
Since the 1.5 patch, the game works better than ever, especially with the FSR set to Auto. the game runs at 50fps in ultra at 1080p.
--launcher-skip
Nothing to say, it works really well.
gamemoderun env MANGOHUD=1 RADV_PERFTEST=rt %command%
The game comes with a native vulkan mode by default, which i advise you to enable in order to not lose performances.
Excepts frame-rate loss, and the stuttering on certain levels, the game works perfectly fine.
A 10-20 fps loss in general, and stuttering on certain levels like mars (level containing a lot of visual effects due to the BFG).
The game runs really well, out of the box.
If you're getting an error with your Vram, out of nowhere, try to launch the game again and again until it launches, and once it's done, lower the texture vram poolsize. If your Vram is almost full (<500mb free) the game will show up this error for some reasons.
If we don't consider the crashes, the game works well.
The game crashes sometimes.
The intro videos (introducing Playstation studios and all) don't work, it skips directly to the game.
The game works better on linux than on windows, out of the box. I don't believe it. (60fps constent)
It seems like DX11 without RTX is way more stable than DX12 (with and without RTX).
The game works great out of the box, tho i would recommend some tweaks that i detail in the notes below. (for a beter experience)
WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR_STRENGTH=2 mangohud gamemoderun %command%
To have a better experience, especially with Nvidia Pascal - AMD 5000 GPUs, use ProtonGE (the latest version available), launch the game with DX11 (as it's more stable for those gpus, and DXVK gives better performances than VKD3D atm).
Then, use the launch commands i wrote above, to activate FSR, mangohud and Feral's gamemode (the last two are optionnal).
Once in the game, go to the settings > Advanced > Set the Rendering resolution to 70-75%, AMD's FSR (enabled with the launch commands) should upscale the game for you, giving you significant performance boost.
Works really great out of the box, which is a surprise compared to the HD collection.
A bit of Stuttering during the first minute of gameplay. Nothing really important.
Cutscences DO work compared to the HD collections where they were skipped.
The game works really great, i just finished it with both Nero/Dante and Vergil campaigns.
The game crashes on start if the fullscreen is set to "true" so, make sure to always disable it when you quit, and enable it when you start playing.
If you're soft locked outside of the game, edit the config file (located in Steam/steamapps/compatdata/329050/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/CAPCOM/DEVILMAYCRY4SPECIALEDITION/config.ini) and modify the value "Fullscreen=ON" to "Fullscreen=OFF".
With the base Proton, videos/cinematics are skipped, so keep that in mind.
Good old Devil May Cry, but better. Works perfectly, really, out of the box.
Note: It's amazing to see how the franchise evolved. We came from a PS1-ish game that was fun but really slow and that barely works on Linux, to a really good looking Hack 'n' Slash that works really good out of the box.
One of my favorite franchise of all times.
Yes, you'll have to rollback to other versions of GE-Proton, in fact, the experimental version of Proton, the GE-Proton7-19 and GE-Proton7-20 all crash while playing WMV video files, while the 7-10 version skips them.

I used zink (openGL on Vulkan) in an attempt to get more stability in the framerate, which seems to be a success.
Also do know that without Vsync, the game is locked at 60fps, and with Vsync on X11, it was still locked at 60fps. Tho on wayland, if you set your monitor refresh rate correctly, Enabling Vsync will make the game run at your monitor's refresh rate (even on Nvidia hardware).

To enable Ray tracing, it'll be a funny config: make sure that "launch in DirectX 11" is ticked in the properties of the game, then in the launch command, add the -dx12 flag (i know, it sounds stupid, but trust me).
That will launch the game with VKD3D (so DX12) anyways, and at that point, Ray tracing will be shown in the menus (It was hidden before).
I must warn you tho, it WILL make your game a HELL lot slower, and the shader compiler will spit at your face.

The main menu shows up, i can barely switch between the menus. But the game is still unplayable.
Simply unplayable. I have huge artifacts on screen, while in the menu; the game runs at 1 fps in the main menu.
Almost there ! The menus work fine. But when the game has to render something in 3D, nothing shows up.
I have great hope the game will be playable on Linux, soon. When we try and load a game the screen is black but you can interact with your environment. So there is a lot of progress there !
A major part of textures are missing.
It is important to note that i managed to launch a training session, and finished it: targets appear, in the void, and we can fire at them. So the proton team made a great progress.
The five problems left to solve are:
- Missing textures
- Missing geometry in the game (especially with the terrain, that may be linked to the first problem)
- The cursor still shows ingame, stuck in the middle of the screen.
- Multiplayer probably still doesn't work.

Halo infinite will be another example of games that used to be unplayable on Linux, and that are now playable.

Of course, it was too hard for Microsoft to let us play their game on linux in peace. So now they ask for a random DLL file that is probably not that useful (api-ms-win-core-memory-l1-1-6.dll), the game just hangs at startup. Processes coming from the game go here and there, but concretely, nothing happens.
Thanks Microsoft !
For now, i set that a typical Linux user won't like the experience but that's subject to change. The reason i set that is in the conclusion.
WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR_STRENGTH=2 mangohud gamemoderun %command% -USEALLAVAILABLECORES

The multiplayer works perfectly.
Since the winter update, there is a dll issue, with current version of proton and GE-Proton, and the game can't be launched anymore with those versions.
The only way i found to bypass that is to use Proton Hotfix.
To install it, hop in the steam console command and run app_install 2180100
, this will install it, then set the proton version of halo infinite to the Hotfix version.
Your game should work now. But without this tinkering, you wouldn't be able to play the game. Of course you can also wait the next update of Proton GE or Proton to fix this issue automatically.

It's officially the 2nd time microsoft trashed their game's compatibility on Linux. This is quite concerning to say the least.
Halo Infinite doesn't have a bright future. 343i knows it, VKD3D devs know it, Microsoft knows it, gamers seem to refuse it.
RADV_PERFTEST=rt VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr11 mangohud gamemoderun %command% -USEALLAVAILABLECORES
The multiplayer is technically terrible even on windows, it's hard to say if i had issues with Linux or not.
It's the second time an update broke the game, some might blame MS for that, even 343 industries, like i used to do. But after further inspection, even VKD3D devs don't seem to believe in a bright future for Halo infinite on linux. It's a technically bad Game, their engine, Slipspace Engine, is quite bad, buggued, has artifacts a lot of the time... Only a remake from scratch, of the game would solve the issue, especially with another engine (even Unreal, which is planned for their next game). Tho microsoft has invested a lot of money into Slipspace. That's it guys, this game is a lost cause, from top to bottom. It's just a matter of time before the ship sinks for good.

use "-force-opengl" as an argument to have native OpenGL support, this will allow you to not use DXVK, and gain some stability at the cost of "high water quality" level (you're stuck with "medium", and it's far from bad).
Also, use "-window-mode exclusive" to have a native fullscreen mode, it's better than the windowed fullscreen devs used in this game.
