Fonts are weird in subtitles in all source games via proton
The game ran right after installation.
The game is able to run perfectly.
Switch to proton version, native is not well optimised.
Source games will start in a very low resolution for the first time, all you need to do it go to settings-> video -> resolution, and set that to the highest numbers there.
works well OOTB
My framerate was pretty much always in the triple digits, but sometimes it went as low as 50 during the encounters with a lot of mobs. That could be a general optimization issue that's not specific to the Linux build. Other than that, the game ran great
In the Apprehension chapter, there's a crash that happens if you have a squad when you jump to a specific rooftop. This happens on Windows too, but it's something to keep in mind because I thought it was specific to Linux before I looked it up
LD_PRELOAD=$LD_PRELOAD:/usr/lib32/libtcmalloc_minimal.so %command%
Play from start to finish without flaws
Sometimes transportation for Wilson breaks and you gotta redo it a couple of times (especially the train, had to just let him lay down and hope he wouldn't fall off), might be an issue on windows too though not too sure.
Everything ran beautifully without any issues on my hardware.
gamemoderun %command% -refresh 144 -fps_max 144 -nojoy -no-browser +fov_desired 110 +fov 110 +cl_fov 110
Some crashes, got 3 on 5 hours of playtime, it clearly is acceptable.
I've noticed no significant bugs, but Linux performance is a little poor. Just force Proton and it runs perfectly.
When running natively, it throws the error "Could not load library client. Try restarting. If that doesn't work, verify the cache." And as we know, a typical player will not delve into these moments. Proton 8.0-4 also shows itself well.
Proton is necesarry to get the game to launch, native version crashes before its even finished launching.
Linux version wont launch
Switched to the Linux beta and deleted the libSDL2-2.0.so.0 file from the bin folder.
issues with text rendering, closed caption text was blocky and smaller text was difficult to read at all
The game works very well using Proton (other than the text rendering issue which is also present in other Source games), but there is also a native Linux version available (Properties -> Betas -> opt in to deck-testing branch) which works perfectly. It's still a testing branch so your mileage may very, but for me it worked with zero issues, stability and performance were what you would expect from a native build.
Switched to deck-testing beta branch in game's properties
Text in dev console is very small, but you never have to do anything there, so it won't be an issue.
The ligting system they implemented for a projector in your clone's den is a bit bugged on Deck, you have to stand in a specific place to read the slides properly.
Some fps dips here and there
I played mostly on 1080p monitor with mouse/keyboard
I've got error on native version, it gets error with hl2.sh file. I just switched to Windows version. No any issues
Get some node graph outdated messages. I can't call them errors because they don't prevent any aspect of gameplay launching or saving
When I go to launch the game with Proton experimental, it tells me that hl2.sh is missing.
If I switch to 7.0-5, i get this error: OSError: [Errno 22] Invalid argument
gamemoderun mangohud %command%
Noticeable Stutter frametime making the game annoyingly unplayable. When turning around or shooting a gun, or using night vision. Didn't happen on windows 10.
Stuttering
As good as native, maybe even better than a lot of native source games
maybe the odd miniscule bug, like a missing animation on an npc, but unless you look for it you won't notice a thing
I made and published my own layout: "Deck Optimized w/ Gyro"
Some of the menu text was impossible to read, but thankfully it wasn't necessary to play the game.
Some sections would tank the performance. It was always playable though.
A great experience from start to finish - Just needed to switch to Proton GE to get the game to run.
Other than slightly borked fonts (mainly in CC), works near perfectly.
Occasional stutters, but nothing too major.
Near flawless
Garbled text in subtitles, even with MS fonts installed. A bit of each letter is cut off when displaying italicized text, still readable.
Wilson's eye animation did not play
Being a source game, EZ2 handles alt-tabs poorly and breaks when changing fullscreen settings.
Whole game worked great on Linux Mint
Perfectly playable atleast from my experience, hoping to finish the entire thing on my linux machine.
Amazing mod, very stable (apart from 1 map near the end of the game). Borked fonts, as in all Source games run through Proton.
Game audio is not being muted when game window is not in focus even though the option is enabled in Audio settings.
Broken fonts, especially for subtitles, as in all Source games running through Proton.
After attempting to load a save made on map ez2_c5_2, sometimes game hard-freezes one second after it loads the save.
Crashes constantly on the second map of chapter Apprehension (ez2_c5_2), progress is stopped.
Game just quits after starting
Tried using experimental proton, GE fork, Proton 7, wine, nothing.
Works perfect
When I shot my guns it tended to drop my frames but with some work I got it fixed by lowering the graphic requirements.
Frames would never stay it seems to go up and down.
Font rendering is terrible, the same as in all Source games
