Shits broke
The launcher says "Couldn't start the game executable." If I go around this by swapping Launcher.exe and the game exe, The game starts with just a black screen.

Fails on anti-cheat launcher
Error pops up immediately with "Unable to start the game process"
"Unable to start the game process."

Starting the game shows 'Unable to start the game process'
Previously mentioned tricks to run splitgate doesnt seem to work this time.

Proton still not supported for Feb 27th Open Alpha test
Just wanted to save people time. I didn't tinker with anything, but nothing seems to have changed since the previous play test.
Anti-cheat is still not Linux compatible and does not pass the launch menu check.

Anti-cheat error popup
Probably best to wait for a Linux binary.

Game just says unable to start the game process
Likely incompatable anti-cheat
Error when launching, probably anticheat

Anticheat ruins everything, part 19582
Upon starting the game, I get a dialog box saying "Anticheat Error: Unable to start the game process"

The games Anti-cheat blocks linux :(
Wont run intill devs update anti-cheat

Game gets stuck on the loading screen, although changing my proton version changed the error message to smth about DLL
Doesn't work

-dx12
Unable to play in a party

-dx12
Part 1: Bypass RedKard Anti-Cheat (sorry devs... we promise we won't actually cheat)
- On the Steam Library page for the game, press the cogwheel icon, then hover over Manage and choose Browse local files.
- Rename launcher.exe to something else that the game won't recognize.
- Rename PortalWars2Client.exe to launcher.exe.
Part 2: Replace the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Installer
This step can be skipped, but you'll have to install and uninstall UE Prerequisites at every launch, and when it's an uninstall cycle you'll have to close the game to get an install cycle. This will allow you to just press "Repair" instead.
- Go to aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe (we can't post URLs :sob:).
- Still on the Local Files from earlier, go to
Engine/Extras/Redist/en-us
and replace UEPrereqSetup_x64.exe with the file downloaded on the previous step (the name must be changed to "UEPrereqSetup_x64.exe").
Part 3: Proton version and Launch Options
Option 1: GE-Proton8-32
- Use an utility like ProtonUp-Qt to download GE-Proton8-32.
- Exit Steam.
- In ProtonUp-Qt, press Show game list, scroll to Splitgate 2 - Alpha, and in the Compatibility Tool column, choose GE-Proton8-32.
- Reopen Steam.
- Press the cogwheel icon, then choose Properties.
- In the Launch Options textbox, put
-dx12
.
Option 2: Proton Hotfix
- Press the cogwheel icon, then choose Properties.
- In the Launch Options textbox, put
-dx12
. - In the Compatibility tab, check Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool.
- In the dropdown, choose Proton Hotfix.
Optional thing, just to make sure.
- Open Steam in Big Picture Mode.
- Select Splitgate 2 - Alpha's page.
- Press the cogwheel icon, then Developer, and choose Delete Proton files.
Known issues, unfixable so far.
- If you Alt+Tab out of the game after or during a match, your game will crash at some point. Do not Alt+Tab ever until you're done with your Splitgating session. The cause of this issue is unknown. The reason why Alt+Tabbing could ever cause an issue is even more unknown.
- Playing in a party won't work. The game will crash for all members when the countdown for the match you're playing starts. The cause is unknown: current hypothesis is that it could possibly be the only server-side Anti-Cheat check.

Created the file ~/.config/protonfixes/localfixes/3145170.py
with the following content to launch from the game exe rather than the launcher:
""" Splitgate 2 - Alpha
"""
#pylint: disable=C0103
from protonfixes import util
def main():
# Replace launcher with game exe
util.replace_command('launcher.exe', 'PortalWars2Client.exe')
Apparently people can't party up with others but I've not tried.
I've heard that this bypasses the anti-cheat so use with that caution.
The game is not working because an anti-cheat error: "Anti-Cheat Error"
cant launch it

Throws anticheat error saying "Unable to start the game process"
tried changing proton version to experimental
Does not currently work on linux

Anti-cheat throws an error "Unable to start the game process"
Completely unplayable, can't even get into the main menu

Anticheat :(
Hopefully they release a Linux binary eventually like Splitgate 1, but somehow I doubt it.

Anti-cheat message fails to start.
From people playing on Windows it sounds like the original game is much better anyway.
Unable to launch the game

Anti-Cheat is fully Borked. Looks like we will have to wait and see if we get a native linux version :\
Tried changing Proton versions to experimental and got a message from EQU8 Anti-Cheat "Wrong DLL present" so it looks like this game will not be working unless they release a native version :\
Able to install the game but never made it past the splashscreen because EQU8 Anti-Cheat does not work in proton. Tried a few different versions of proton and best I got was a "Wrong DLL present". Turns out EQU8 runs kernal mode on Windows so no way it will work through proton. Splitgate 1 had a working native version after they started using EQU8 so hopefully we can get one here. Just sad I didn't get to use my playtest rights :(
Broken. Anti-Cheat message prevents game from starting.

Game faild to start.
Game faild to start.

Borked anticheat. Also tried GE for funzies and it gave a wrong ddl file error.
The alpha is basically fresh off the press so not too surprising, but hopefully they change that.

"Unable to start the game process." just like everyone else here.
konsole -e "%command%"
Renaming/removing .game_config.equ8_dir
in anticheat_conf.json
will make the launcher download some extra anti-cheat files

RedKard anti cheat does not work 'unable to launch game process'
DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti" gamemoderun %command%
installed fine, unable to launch due to redkard anti cheat. I will be trying inside a VM later which will probably work.
anti-cheat :(
Can't launch, I tried a couple different versions of Proton, both vanilla and GE, no luck at all. "Can't launch process" error

Anti-Cheat tries to install and fails with "Unable to start the game process"
Trying to start the game opens a window named "Anti-cheat Message" saying "Unable to start the game process". RedKard/EQU8 anticheat's Windows version won't run on Linux, devs confirm, too. Must wait for full release.

Instant anti-cheat error
Not sure what Anti cheat the game is using, splitgate used to use battleye and run well on linux

Unable to start the game process.
Tried to play around with the anticheat's config files to see if anything would happen.
Trying to start the game opens a window named "Anti-cheat Message" saying "Unable to start the game process". RedKard/EQU8 anticheat's Windows version won't run on Linux, devs confirm, too. Must wait for full release, where there'll hopefully be a native build like for the first game. It would be a stupid choice to not have Linux support in this day and age.

Anti-Cheat tries to install and fails with "Unable to start the game process"
It seems they plan on supporting Steam Deck and the Anti-Cheat is hypothesized to be the same one from Splitgate 1, so we'll probably just have to wait for a bit

Game doesn't seem to start up yet, problem with anticheat
Stuck on "Anti-Cheat Error" with text "Unable to start the game process
