Proton version works without issues
On the native version mouse has some weird inertia and it is very hard to control cursor. No such issue on the proton version so I recommend to force compatibility.
It doesn't work on Linux, crashes immediately after start
Error message includes "opengles\shader_program.cpp Line: 29 Expression: program".
Tried on Proton Experimental, 6.3-8, 5.13-6 and 5.0-10.
It still doesn't work without tinkering on the latest Proton 7.0-1
acsetup.cfg
[graphics]
driver=OGL
windowed=0
game_scale_fs=stretch
vsync=1
Fullscreen doesn't work correctly though you can play like that. There're black bars above, below and to the left (game screen is anchored to the right). I fixed it with the configuration provided. Just create acsetup.cfg where the game stores save files (game folder inside $HOME/.local/share/adg
or might be a different place on your system).
Achievements don't unlock on native version at all.
Native version is alright as long as you don't care about achievements, fullscreen is fixable.
Works perfectly
Native version doesn't work - black screen. With forced proton - no issues.
Runs perfectly
No third party patches required - runs as-is without any issues (in original resolution, of course). Window switching also works fine.
Runs perfectly
Same as Gallean's Return - no third party patches required, runs as-is without issues; window switching works also.
It run perfectly until Proton 7.0-3 (latest was 7.0-1 for me). On Proton 7.0-3 fullscreen broke - it became small window. So, I forced 6.3-8. Other than that no issues (maybe fullscreen will be resolved later).
No issues with proton
It doesn't work natively for me but works perfectly with proton (aside of inability to switch window in fullscreen).
Works fine
After right click the game loses focus and ignores mouse clicks, changing window focus back and forth fixes it. Not the end of the world.
It doesn't work natively on Linux but works with forced compatibility
Changing window focus causes game to freeze.
Couple of cutscenes don't play - black screen. But they are skippable.
It doesn't work natively for me at all including mentioned below trick with linux beta branch. So, I forced compatibility with Proton 6.3-7 and it works fine. Aside from couple cutscenes not showing and impossibility to switch windows everything is smooth. I completed the game from the start to finish (fun game, by the way).
Runs perfectly
Likely, Gentoo specific notes. Build kernel with CONFIG_USER_NS and mesa with vulkan otherwise the game won't run with not very informative logs.
If you experience artifact line across the middle of the screen then disable v-sync.
Works fine
Game freezes and crashes from time to time but looks like not a Linux issue
Cutscenes don't work, yes, but I don't see it as a significant bug.
Works fine
First vehicle launch videos don't show but they are irrelevant for gameplay so doesn't matter.
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
As others noted - no videos for tutorial and abilities unless you run with 6.3-8 compatibility and still not all of them will work.
For me on chapter 3 part 4 game immediately crashed on load. Run Steam through terminal and I got error message: "eventfd: Too many open files". That's why I run with "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1" - it solves the issue. If you experience the same crash then launch with given option or rise your system open file limit.
It doesn't work natively and it doesn't work with proton without tinkering
Natively it just doesn't run. With forced proton it requires registration key. There are advices to overcome it but I didn't bother.
Update both game.ini files. One within game data folder: add "setf ~cl_menu3d 0" and change to "setf ~r_use_adapter 1". Another one within compatdata documents folder: change to "setf ~cl_menu3d 0".
- At some angles water looks distorted
- Sometimes reward item icon is corrupted
Main campaign (Orcs on the March) works without any tinkering. Add-on minicampaigns require config changes. Graphics issues are super minor.
It doesn't work, crashes immediately
Tried latest proton 8.0-3 and GE-Proton8-9.
Works perfectly
Played during free weekend. I forced compatibility because natively the game requires some libraries to be installed and I didn't want to bother (I guess, it was Wayland). Works with proton smoothly.
Proton version has no issues
As others mentioned native version has input lag, makes game almost uplayable for me. Proton version runs smoothly.
PROTON_HEAP_DELAY_FREE=1 %command%
As others noted game freezes in random short intervals without tinkering
First time I ran it game froze in the first 10 minutes. Then I researched it and discovered that it is known issue. I used command line flag (see above), disabled autosaves and lowered shadows quality to high. No idea what from this list is necessary but I didn't have freezes anymore even on longer (serveral hours) sessions.
taskset -c 0-6 %command%
Same as others: taskset commandline option is required otherwise the game will crash occasionally.
Another necessary change, probably, Gentoo specific: build libxcb with -O1 flag otherwise the game won't run.
Works fine
Sometimes mouse cursor flickers or disappears for a short period of time
Sometimes crashes
Not sure if game issues are Linux related or it is like that on all platforms. Playable nonetheless.
Works pretty good
Rarely the game freezes completely, usually in planetary battles. It seems to do it even rarer with multithreading disabled but not completely sure. Not a big deal anyways.
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command%
Without commandline the game freezes on every click and hover in UI which makes it unplayable. With commandline - no issues at all, audio works, window switching works, no need to downgrade proton.
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command%
Same as with the original game: without commandline the game is unplayable because of constant freezes. No other changes were necessary for me, the game is stable.
It doesn't work neither natively nor with forced proton
Natively game doesn't run for me at all. With forced proton it runs but only shows black screen (I tried experimental, 7.0-5, 6.3-8 and GE7-43).
It works and it is completable
Same thing as others mention: no audio in cutscenes
Game crashes on average once per hour. Not sure what triggers it but before crash dialog advances too fast or appears in the top left corner or characters just disappear and then game crashes without a message. Luckily, game autosaves every time you enter a location so never much progress is lost. I haven't seen it mentioned by anyone else so it could be just my setup.
No issues
I recommend to force proton. Native version doesn't have setup, runs in a small window (unless you provide command line argument) and has worse mouse control.
