Native doesn't work but forced proton works perfectly

Native version doesn't work. Try latest proton instead: right click -> properties -> compability -> choose proton version

Native version will not launch. Using Proton it runs as if native. Regarding others stating UI was too small, selecting Auto upscale in the inital launch box worked for me just fine and on a 4k display I am able to see the font well.

Yes, but now needs 1 little fix, after recent Linux versions removed suport for obsolete SSL 1 version.
See this link for fix to current proble with obsolete SSL library: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/linux-version-crashes-with-libiggy_linux-so-undefined-symbol-pthread_yield.1516350/
Only using PBEM mode. Have been playing for years. Works perfectly fine. Never really used synchronized online play.
Native AoW3 used to work perfect on Linux. Have been playing for many years (mostly PBEM).
Recently SSL 1 support got removed from default Ubuntu (probably since 22.04?). That is likely the explanation why people now say that the native version doesn't work.
See tinker link to find the fix. With that it works perfectly fine agan.

Installs, but doesn't start. Just say Running for a few minutes. Tried with Proton GE, Proton Experimental and native.
Not linux compatible at all. A few selected distroes are not linux in a whole.
Works great. I recommend using the Windows version with proton. The native build did not work for me.
Made right joystick scroll up and down and mapped L4 to middle mouse click and R4 to F for better camera control. Right joystick repeat is set to 50.
Locked to 40 fps. Doesn't consistently reach much higher with my settings anways.
Native version doesn't launch. I play with textures at Ultra, other settings on low, all visual features enabled (except AA...makes the game look more blurry than it helps).
The text could bit a bit bigger, however I am not completely sure if it is a stopper for playing this game. It is still readable in the end.
when Steam overlay enabled

No audio with native nersion. Debug log suggests FMOD failed to load. Game does not launch with account.
Runs out of the box, I still lose to the AI though.

Since glibc update 2.34 the game is not starting anymore besides the initial settings splash screen.
At the moment I'm running it barely with wine version of Steam and AoW3. See https://steamcommunity.com/app/226840/discussions/0/3202621452565268712/

Does not work in native.
Rare crashes when starting a tactical battle. Not enough for me to consider it an inconvenience.
Game stopped working in native. Trying to launch the game leads to 26 files missing. Verifying game integrity does not help the native version launch. Works mostly fine for me through Proton experimental.
Runs pretty much OOB with Proton. Do not use native version.
I have tried the native and the proton supported version.
Do -not- use the native version if you want online multiplayer to function.
This game shares a common issue with another AoW title (Planetfall) in that sometimes clicking to host a lobby or rejoin a saved online game will not work initially. Retrying a few times seems to get the point across, but it can be unexpected and annoying at times.
100% playable OOB on native (without online multiplayer) and 100% playable OOB on proton (with online multiplayer). Just bear in mind the above caveat.
Simply doesn't run, though it used to at some point.
Some ocasional crackling, turning down the game's volume in Pulseaudio helped.
Performance is noticibly worse than on Windows, but still playable.
If this game is native, the native version no longer starts, and Proton 5.13 failed to start as well. I got the game running on Proton Experimental and it works just fine. Performance is defintely worse than on Windows but still very playable since this is a turned based game, after all.
Le jeu annule son lancement quelques secondes après son démarrage
Could not get sound working in the Linux version so using with proton 5.0-9 and works great there.

I'm not sure why, but first time it didn't open at all
After first failed attempt, I used PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% on steam and the game opened - but the game menu wasn't visible. There were some graphical artifacts and nothing could be done. My GPU is not vulkan supported, I'm wondering if that could be the issue.

Just change to fullscreen and avoid borderless. And use native game because i don't see the point using proton :D but it works flawlessly
borderless mode make very small window of the game like 1x1 cm

The game runs on 1904, so that's good. However, my computer is a high end workstation but this game looks and runs awful. I can say it runs awful on Linux because because it looks and runs so much better on Windows it's much better.

Runs perfectly well.

Game works native on Linux. On Proton it works out of the box too. I installed manually D9VK and it worked as well fine with this DX9 to Vulkan translation.

Ultra graphics runs fine, PulseAudio clipping until master volume was turned down
