Square blocks of light on main menu as noted elsewhere, literally the only issue and no effect on playability
Actually y'all, I think the weird menu light squares are meant to be there... I mean, look at the game banner!
Copying and pasting the info below as it worked perfectly for me: So, let's start with the fact that this is Unreal Engine 3 game and that brings a lot of issues on its own. There are some things that need to be done to achieve the best experience possible. First - install winetricks, protontricks and run this command in the terminal: protontricks 35140 mdx d3dx9 d3dcompiler_43 win10. Then disable frame rate smoothing: open folder where the game is installed, go to steamapps and from there navigate to compatdata/35140/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/Square Enix/Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY/BmGame/Config. In there open BmEngine.ini and find and change bSmoothFrameRate from TRUE to FALSE. Fix stuttering and texture issues: in the same file from above find and change PoolSize value in the Texture streaming section and set it 2048. Also find the ThreadedShaderCompileThreshold in the DevOptions.Shaders section and set it to 2. This should be enough to get it running properly but if you have any issues here are some helpful links: https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Batman:_Arkham_Asylum and https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Engine:Unreal_Engine_3 I managed to get stable 60 fps on max settings except for motion blur and MSAA - these were turned off. P.S. I used only 2 gb of VRAM and 2 cores because setting these to higher values resulted in crashing.
Game works fine with no mouse issues (spinning while looking down) anymore. Still occaisionally needs an enter or an alt-enter after pressing play to show the game window
Black screen after Agents of SHIELD title on first boot, upon 2nd loading game worked fine
Input bug prevents selection on main menu
Game hangs on exit for me using Proton 3.7-8 (Valve Tested version). Seems fine with this Proton version.
Disable Esynce prevents function crash, and this allows for sound:
edit Mass Effect/BioGame/Config/DefaultEngine.ini in the ISACTAudio.ISACTAudioDevice section add these two lines:
DeviceName=Generic Software UseEffectsProcessing=False
Gets to splash screen, then quickly crashes back to Big Picture Mode (I ran this on my couch HTPC)
Can get in-game, menu, sound, and in-game songs work. I haven't set my real-tone cable up yet but will update/replace this review if it doesn't work/requires seriously more/less tweaking to get it to work
Need to import config from elsewhere as the setup launcher doesn't work. Otherwise the game runs nicely
Issues I have had: Audio cutting out after applying tweaks, usually every 10 min or so. Hanging on exit. Otherwise runs well, and so damn smoothly through vulkan
Played demo version. Worked out of the box but resolution was not my native nor fullscreen. Needed "protontricks 996470 dotnet420 allfonts", then next time PES loads the settings will load first.
defaulted to windowed as above, needs protontricks to solve
