My distro (Fedora) keeps thinking the game has stalled out at loading screens and I've had one crash but otherwise it works great.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 gamemoderun %command%
Random small freezes
Works with Proton

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Show splash screen and immediately closing. Problem solved after launch options set.
Not starting at all. Ask for save games to override, then nothing ;I

Straightforward, works fine out of the box.

Played from start to finish without any issues!

Easy to install and jump in
No tinkering needed for my build using Proton 8.0-2. Just installed, started it up, and was playing with Mouse and Keyboard. No issues or problems noticed.

Ran and completed the game on Proton-7.0-6. I used the official controller settings by Runic, but bound Ctrl to R2.
Bound Ctrl to R2
Runs perfect OOTB
Played it for a few hours. Did not have any issues. Runs very well out of the box on linux.

No issues at all on openSUSE Tumbleweed
It works simply great just with the default suggested option by Steam Play.
The bug is kinda game breaking and early on. not cool
Tried to talk to an NPC for a quest. Dialogue did not progress, and no option but to close game and restart.
Playing on the Steam Deck is a pretty awful experience, since the control scheme tries to optimize around the lack of controller support, but it does not substitute for it pretty well.
Works perfectly.
It works like windows
There's no controller support, and the "official" steam controller profile is very janky. The thumbsticks are mapped to constantly click in front of your character to move them, but this means that you're constantly clicking on everything near your character, including menus.
Appears to run fine, but the control issues made me give up pretty quickly.
It was crashing before it reached the menu, and the next time it asked me whether I wanted to use local saves or remote saves from the steam cloud.
With the dialog still present, before clicking anything. I deleted everything in:
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/41500/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/runic games/torchlight/
You might want to backup the save files you want to keep intact, but after doing that I clicked the option to use local saves and the game recreated all the files. It now works perfectly!
I finished all the game on Linux.
Works out-of-box
Played with Proton 6.3-8

Crashes just after the title screen and one second of audio.
Tried all the proton versions I could with the same result.
The game just works.
Works great on Proton 6.3-7. Flawless with normal load times
Works perfectly fine.
To avoid long loading times, use Proton 3.7-8
Full play-through with mouse and keyboard
Abnormally long loading times. Large areas can take 80 to 90 seconds to load.
Long load times. Otherwise perfect.
Abnormally long loading times (15-30 seconds)

Played with Proton 4.11-13 "out-of-box"

Proton-5.9-GE-5-ST GloriousEggroll

Played for about 20 hours, no issues besides long loading times
Long loading times, apparently depending on map size; between one and two minutes for most maps. Switching to Proton 3.7 didn't help.
Proton 3.7 sees to help with the long loading
Loading times are high unless you use Proton 3.7-8

Saved games don't load, game crashes
When loading it says the save games on the computer are newer than in the cloud (despite having just installed the game). When trying to load the game the game crashes
