Framerte below playable level
Maximizing window crashes game
Game doesn't launch without custom launch options. Can't go fullscreen, performance inadequate to hardware.

PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% width=1280 height=800 fullscreen=true vsync=off maxfps=120 nointro=true
env PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 gamescope -e -w 1280 -h 1024 -- %command% width=1280 height=1024 nointro=true fullscreen=true
I launch the game with the original method. Crashes without fullscreen=true.
Broken World patch: protontricks --gui
, launch the wine shell, cd
your way into the games install directory on the Z:
drive and run the patch. In my case, that was
Z:
...
cd steamapps
cd common
cd "Dungeon Siege 2"
"Reg Patch DSII"

Very stable locked 60fps. Launches fine after changing to proton 7.0-6, though you'll need to change the controls so that either x, y or b are hotkeyed to the keyboard keys H and M for health and mana potions.

There are issues when loading a game, going back to menu, etc. But just wait, combined with these launch flags

nospacecheck=true width=1280 height=720 fullscreen=false vsync=true maxfps=120 nointro=true -popupwindow
Full screen showed only 1/4 of the window so I had to quit and set width & height in the launch options, but I had similar issues with other games, might be because I'm using multiple monitors.
Took one minute to set the launch options, the game works great.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% width=1920 height=1080 fullscreen=true nointro=true
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 withot this - cursor is not apear in starting game menu. Force resolution to full HD works good in game but handeled poorly in menu. Funny that I was not able to run game in latest windows as at all.
fullscreen=false width=960 height=600
I've also put custom resolution for 16:10 and bigger font.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% width=1366 height=768 fullscreen=true nointro=true

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Game would switch displays randomly when loading cutscenes or menus.
Mouse would jitter around on second monitor and would leave focus for the game.
Would lock up computer when alt-tabbed on dual monitor set up.
The game would completely lock up PC after alt-tabbing except for the mouse. Could not use terminal or sysrq to escape or kill the task.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 helps with mouse pointer in low-res menu
Game has no window mode.
Played with Proton 6.3-8 and params PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
WINEPREFIX="$HOME/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/39200/pfx" winetricks d3dx9
Looking through the old reports using winetricks to install d3dx9 on 3.7-8 proton worked to resolve cursor and black head issue. Doing that worked for me too.
Did NOT have to specify PROTON_USE_WINE3D=1 to work.
Note: When I ran winetricks it complained I did not have wine32. I tried running it via 3.7-8 and still got the black head. Installed wine32 and reran the winetricks command, which fixed the issue.
I also added width=1920 height=1080 for resolution to my run command. Menu in lowres but the game runs in that resolution. You can confirm by pressing esc and check options in game.
Have not played much but so far intros and videos are playing fine.
If a huge square cursor and a black head doesn't bother you it's fine.
WIth Proton 4.11-3 I was able to get this game running. Though only with a huge black square cursor and a black main character head.
After Alt-Tab if you return to the game it would only show 1/4 of the screen more specifically the top left corner.
I tried 5.13-2 and 5.0-10 but those versions of Proton would not show my cursor and I was unable to select any option in the menu with my mouse or the keyboard.
The giant black square cursor makes it unplayable.
Cursor is a giant black square and the character head is blacked out.
Tried various suggestions and could not fix the issue.

Played with Proton 5.0-7 and command params PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Start menu is in bad resolution, game is normal.
Invisible cursor fixable by applying PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 to launch options.
Install d3dx9 through winetricks or protontricks.
Main menu won't be in native resolution but in-game is ok. This isn't a problem when running in window mode.
Set resolution through launch options. My launch options for reference:
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% width=1920 height=1080 fullscreen=false vsync=off maxfps=120 nointro=true
You need to do 5 minutes of research to comfortably play the game, but you also have to do this on Windows 10. T
Those are also needed to play the game on Windows:
- Steam launch options:
nospacecheck=true width=1920 height=1080 fullscreen=false vsync=true maxfps=120 nointro=true -popupwindow -adapter 0
- Disable Steam overlay
Only in 1 cinematic or steam overlay is active (the last one also happens on Windows 10)
No mouse cursor, this is also an issue on Windows 10
after alt tabbing into the game, there is maybe 1 second delay before inputs are accepted
Only when steam overlay is active and sends a notification. This also happens on Windows 10
Does not work on any proton version

Installed protontricks and ran
protontricks 39200 d3dx9
in terminal to fix black cursor and missing faces. 39200 is DS2 AppId
Alt-Tab breaks resolution, have to reset it in options every time

Latest version of proton does not work. Previous version 4.2-9 works flawlessly following the winetricks install of d3dx9

Black cursor and character heads.

The Broken Worlds patch and Legendary Edition mod also seem to work perfectly fine. Only played single-player so far.

Initially I had the black square mouse pointer too. After applying the winetricks d3dx9 I see the mouse pointer, but still with a black square. Turning off fullscreen resolves the black square but then the window is small and the pointer flickers.

Executed the following with Proton 3.7-8. WINEPREFIX="$HOME/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/39200/pfx" winetricks d3dx9

Played through the entire Game. Just install DirectX9 in the prefix and enjoy the game.
If the resolution strikes after you change the window (ALT+TAB) just set the resolution in options again eg. to 16bit and back to 32 bit color depth.

Perfectly playable to the end after manually installing d3dx9. Only issue is that resolution gets screwed up after game loses focus

Black box instead of cursor, PC's head is black also.

Black box where cursor should be and black player head textures, but rest of the game renders and plays fine. Probably wouldn't recommend until these get fixed as they do impact play experience quite a bit.

Black cursor and black hero head was fixed after installing d3dx9 using winetricks. Runtime Config Options did not help.
WINEPREFIX="$HOME/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/39200/pfx" winetricks d3dx9

The cursor and the main character's head is black. However the game functions. The mouse cursor being a black box could be distracting enough to make this game Unstable. Depends on how much you want to play

runs but there is a huge black square instead of cursor, main character's head is black, strange cursor behavior
