Runs great, sound is broken from a forced 5.1 mix. Can be fixed by changing 2 characters in a dll.
The game uses native 5.1 and does not downmix to stereo or quadraphonic. In a Stereo setup you won't have the Center and Surround Speakers so the volume will be very low, except for cutscenes (they are in Stereo).
Using a hex editor on prototypeenginef.dll
, go to the offset 0x008BB0C5
and change the the highlighted 2-digit value from 0D
to 35
for a modest increase in volume.
Dialogue volume still remains low but will no longer sound muffled.

The game runs great but the sound is super quiet. It can be quickly fixed by changing a couple characters using a hex editor.
This is what I did to fix the audio on my Steam Deck.
- Open your Steam Library
- Select Prototype
- Select the button with the gear icon on the right
- Select "Properties" from the menu
- Select "Installed Files" on the left of the new Properties window
- Select the button labled "Browse..." in the top right
- Right click on
prototypeenginef.dll
in the new file browser window - Select "Open with..." from the menu
- Search for "hex" in the top box
- Select "Bless Hex Editor" and click OK
- Press "Ctrl+G" to open the Offset search box
- Enter
0x008BB0C5
in the search box - Select the button labeled "Go to Offset". This will go to and underline
0D
. - Change the underlined
0D
to35
- Save the file and you're done

Locked 60fps on max settings, played for about 2 hours

Game runs flawlessly, controller works brilliantly with native support. Game looks stunning both handheld and docked.
Perfect optimisation on Steam Deck. No messing around required just boot up and play.

Out of knowhere! This game is briliant on steamdeck.

I used PrototypeFix for Resolution, MSAA, Shadow, FPS cap, and FOV adjustments.
Use PrototypeFix and edit the .INI file. It'll let you set your resolution above 720p, fixes some crashes and bugs, and has other settings you can adjust like the Frame Rate.
Played for about an hour loaded saves and the like worked right of the box.

WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=8:0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command%
Crashed upon starting a new game multiple times until config used

Used to crash all the time and be unstable at best, but now works flawlessly out of the box.
Just left everything as default and the game on high settings runs at 90fps, though there is a weird bug that happens above 60fps where the count down in challenge missions is off beat with the camera pans and doesn't work properly, it's not game breaking at all and still works but there is a bit of awkward standing around as the timer is iffy, but locking to 60 aliviates this .

Default
Works great

Normalden daha kısık geliyor.
Ana menüde gezinirken ve ara sahnelerde takılmalar fark ettim.
Sadece belirttiğim sıkıntılar var. Ara sahneleri izlemeyi seviyorsanız biraz hayal kırıklığına uğratabilir. Fakat bunun dışında oynayışta sıkıntı yok.

Worked perfectly, I'd say it is more stable than on my Windows PC.

no audio
Mainly between cutscenes
Random crashs between cutscenes and no audio

Changed CPU TDP to 10W
Audio volume is low
About 4 hours of playtime. Its a older game so graphics are not amazing but managed to play on highest settings with 10W TCP and locked 60 FPS. Used about 50% of the battery for 2 hours of gameplay on those settings. Audio is a little on the low side but otherwise runs pretty fine.

The game may crash on a CPU with more than 8 threads if you dont limit the threads with launch options
WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=8:0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%

Had no issues, running well. Low system requirements.
From the looks of it, it seems that all of mentioned problems also occur natively on Windows, and are a the result of a poor PC port.
Sound volume is rather low - this seems to be an overall issue with the PC port, though.
Occasionally the game softlocks on cutscene fadeout - this might be PC issue however (I wasn't able to even run this game Windows lately, so the fact it runs out of the box in Proton is surprising).
Soft lock during cutscene. Sometimes after the first cut scenes, sometimes just before the second cutscene
Once you land, there will be a black box under your character.
Back in September, game ran with 1-2 crashes, but right now It's unplayable. After a minute or so, the game freezes. Tried to run with couple of older Protons, without any luck.
10 Watt TDP
On fresh install and open the game does fail to play and crashes frequently, If you force Proton-7.1-GE-1 The game is smooth on deck. I lowered the TDP for some extra batery life, Have fun!

Very low volume overall
Ground impact effect doesn't draw correctly - appears as a black square around the character.
Save data is deleted when the game is uninstalled. No Steam Cloud support.
Game hangs before the first cinematic with default Proton. GE lasts a minute or two into gameplay before it hangs too.
Proton-7.1-GE-1 is the only version works for me,other version is crashing constantly
Minor main charater shadow issues
Proton-7.1-GE-1 fixed it for me
8 months (xx/4/2022) ago people say Proton-6.5-GE-1 work,but not for me in 2023,Proton-7.1-GE-1 works for me tho
Shadows wiil occasionally break and just show a black box.
Certain cutscenes will crash the game completely. Currently soft locked early into the game, about an hour in. Have not tried tweaking.
Game crashes in cerrtain areas, likely due to forced cutscenes.
Really fun game, hope it works out.

MIssing audio in default, use Proton-6.5-GE-1
crash constantly without PROTON-6-5-GE-1
use Proton-6.5-GE-1, for run you must install "ProtonUp-Qt"
Game runs without crashing thanks to [NikoBellicRU's workaround](https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/164#issuecomment-1291082717)
WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=8:0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command%
The game works great but make sure you use ProtonUp-Qt to download and install Proton-6.5-GE-1. From there right click the game > gear icon > properties > compatibility. Check the Foce the use of specific Steam Play Compatibliity tool box, and then select proton-6.5-GE-1. Once that is done. The game just works. Minor tinkering but it is worth it because it will run without issues if you use that version.
One crash during a cutscene for the "Men Like Gods" mission. Skipped the cutscene second time around.
Audio is very weak, I had to crank up at maximum the Steam Deck volume to hear the game correctly
The game only works with Proton-6.21-GE-2 installed via ProtonUp-Qt. Otherwise the game crashes at the tutorial with any other version of Proton.
PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 taskset --cpu-list 0-7 %command%
PCgaming wiki has some hex changes and dll things I tried to alleviate crashing
some shadow cache stutter
Only could play for a few minutes at a time
Download Proton 6.5-GE-1 - it's probably the only thing that makes this game run. In desktop mode, download ProtonUp-Qt and install this version of Proton. Then go back to Steam and force this version of Proton on Prototype. Found this solution thanks to CellTastic on Reddit.
Proton 6.something is the only version that works - but then there's absolutely no audio.
Constant crashes on any proton version but 6.xx
Either no sound or memory leak crashes. Absolutely unplayable.
If anyone has a solution, please dump it somewhere in a report. Thanks.

The game crash during the gameplay, they were used diferent proton versions but the game just crash.
Proton 6.3-8 is the only version that is stable for me. Other versions of proton would freeze my game after 5-10 minutes of playing. Of course, they constantly update proton, so maybe newer versions also work as well. Currently 20 hours in, about to beat the game and it runs like butter.

PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 taskset --cpu-list 0-7 %command%
Needs patch to fix resolution
audio is a little quiet
game wont start without launch command
Freezes during Loading a new game
Tried unset LC_ALL && %command%
, PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 taskset 0x000000FF gamemoderun %command%
, taskset -c 0-3 %command%
, taskset -c 0,2,4,6 %command%` separately.
Also tried Proton Experimental, and Proton 7.2 after clearing old compat data.
Work perfecty with Proton 7.0-1 Full walkthrough, no problems of any kind Played with Controller or keyboard
No additional configuration needed, works out of the box
Proton GE 6.21-GE-2 (build 1643711986) GloriousEggroll
Audio was missing on all proton versions despite custom proton GE
It was either too sensitive when using touchpad or too slow when using bluetooth mouse. Not accurate.
It was running on 60 fps but without sound on proton 4.1, on this proton version it works with sound and everything but it dropped down to 8-9 fps so game is unplayable. Tested on my Macbook Air from 2015.
Low fps.
On higher end machine perhaps the experience would have been better. Right now on my computer it's either good fps with no sound or good sound with <15 fps
el juego funciona bien, excepto que no tiene audio, hay que meter la siguiente lìnea para que funcione "PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_3=b" PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%" (sin las comillas del principio y el final) en launch options,
PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 WINEDLLOVERRIDES=”xaudio2_3=b” PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 taskset 0x000000FF gamemoderun %command%
Sound is quiet
Requires launch commands and glorious eggroll

PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 WINEDLLOVERRIDES=”xaudio2_3=b” PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 taskset 0x000000FF gamemoderun %command%
No audio without WINEDLLOVERRIDES=”xaudio2_3=b” and proton 4.1
save games do not support steam cloud
