Launched fine. Played a few races without issue.
Excellent adaptation of the classic game Micro Machines for the PlayStation 1.
One player on keyboard, the other using a Steam controller.
Finished the game on Linux. This includes obtaining the last achievements. My progress from play on Windows was carried over flawlessly.
Everything works
Played with Proton 6.3-8
The game window never comes up
Tried no esync, dxd11, putting my desktop resolution at 1280x720, adding a video_settings.xml config file like mentioned in a previous report, Proton 4.11, 5.0, 5.13, 6.3, and experimental... Maybe it's my CPU (no other ryzen 5 reports). Dirt Rally also causes me issues because of it. Very disapointed...
Works great and fast. Joystick perfectly detected
Without disabled esync freezes after loading screen
Hangs at the loading screen
On Debian, it needed the additional package libnvidia-glvkspirv installing.
So in my case, I finally found the good combination :
- Proton 4.11 max because the game run and exit with Proton 5.x
- without PROTON_NO_ESYNC the loading screen freeze
- AND I need to add a custom config file to adjust settings (and avoid a black screen)
Here is the content of my config file in steamapps/compatdata/287260/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Saved Games/Codemasters/ToyboxTurbos/video_settings.xml
:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<config width="1920" height="1080" fullscreen="true" msaa="false" brightness="0.500000" depthOfField="true" smoothingType="-1" VR="false" VRRenderFactor="1.000000" />
In this file I can adjust my screen resolution (1920x1080) but I also have to set MSAA (anti-aliasing) to "false" : this solve my black screen problem. Note that if I re-enable the anti-aliasing into the in-game options, the game freeze... so I need to keep MSAA false and the game finally works !
Install --> Play
Doesn't even launch
Tried disabling esync, no luck.
Hangs if not ESYNC deactivated
works only with: PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% is required to run the game, or it will get stuck in the leading menu. After that, it's flawless.
Tested the whole single player campaign and online multiplayer game with friends, with keyboard or gamepad. It's a pretty much perfect, glitch free experience, and a lot of fun.
little sounds issues but not enough to be a real problem to play
Used with steam play out of the box but needs 'PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%' as launch option otherwise the game will stay forever at the loading screen.
Needs 'PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%', otherwise stuck at the loading screen.
The game has a weird screen resolution bug, where the game will only start when using the same resolution as the desktop resolution on Windows. This bug does not pop up when launching the game using Proton
Game starts as a black window. Disabling Esync doesn't change anything.
Runs well if you add "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%" to the game launch options.
With "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%", runs flawlessly. Without disabling Esync, gets stuck at loading screen.
Without tweaks would hang on loading screen but disabling esync worked. With this game runs perfectly including online play.
I could not test multiplayer because no other players were found.
With "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%", runs flawlessly. Without disabling Esync, gets stuck at loading screen.
Disable Esync did not help for me. Just a Freeze on start
add "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%" to the SET LAUNCH OPTIONS in steam other wise it gets stuck at the loading screen. (ignore the "here's how" link below, this is all I had to do)
With "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%", runs flawlessly. Without disabling Esync, gets stuck at loading screen.

stucks at loading screen
Goes fullscreen, but locks up while loading.
