the game launches and functions fine (no missing textures, audio/controller/overlay all work, as does alt-tabbing) however the performance is lacking. steady 60FPS can be maintained in some areas but in places like the main city it can drop to as low as 23FPS, which is a big deal since as an early report stated the game logic is tied to framerate. you can mitigate this a bit by pointing the camera down to the ground, but ultimately the game needs some work before it can be considered gold/platinum.
worked perfectly fine with max settings 120% res scale, fps 55-60. 360 wireless controller worked fine.
Everything other than the aforementioned bug does seem to work fine, however if you can't get the MF hack working you're kind of screwed.
as others have mentioned there's a section where you need to watch a clip on a monitor to proceed. despite trying to apply the related MF hacks i can't seem to proceed.
runs perfectly OOTB. Some slight stutter now and then but not too annoying thanks to mesa-aco. Tested with a 360 Wireless controller.
Clicking Play makes a black window appear with the build version number in the bottom-left corner. Music will play in the background, however nothing will appear on screen and the game just doesnt advance beyond this. None of the PROTON variables helped alleviate this.
The game will still start with just a black screen/music/version number until you click the mouse, this makes the "Criware" logo appear and bring us to the menu. The FPS here is pretty low and the controller only seems to work sometimes, however graphics and sound seem fine. Trying to start a game will bring you to another infinite loading screen. Tried mfplat workaround but it didn't help, also nothing at all relevant shows up in the console when you're stuck on the loading screen.
Unlike other reporters my experience hasn't changed since last time (i made sure to make a clean prefix) - have to hit enter to get intro logos to show up, the main menu works but i can't proceed in game. 360 wireless controller doesn't work, there's also a very slight crackle off the audio.
configuration tool launches but otherwise the game CTD's immediately.
Doesn't work
Launching the config editor brings up a javascript error, trying to launch the game itself does nothing (no window will appear) & the process will terminate itself moments after.
Running max settings 1440p @ 200% resolution scale, game works flawlessly 60fps. 360 wireless controller works fine too.
Played 3 hours so far, slight stutter (that doesnt seem to be shaders generating), otherwise its fine.
Works ootb with 3.16-9. Very slight stutter for the first hour or so but has since been pretty smooth with a rock solid 60FPS. 360 Wireless controller works fine. The games resolution settings only affect window size and not internal res, but this is an issue on windows as well, hence the platinum rating.
Performance is kind of all over the place, I can stay at 60fps for a while and then some effect will happen on screen bringing it down to 15-20 but it won't go back up. Gamespeed is tied to framerate so the game becomes pretty unplayable at this point.
Controller works fine, audio desyncs at cutscenes. Trying to change resolution from 1440p to 1080p caused a crash.
Works flawlessly max settings 1440p, 360 wireless controller works fine too.
Poor performance (max ~45fps on lowest settings at the start of a match) and every second time I start the game performance is halved again (max ~28fps on lowest at the start of a match). Game has hung once confirming another users report. Switching back to the game window after alt-tabbing can cause the internal res to change to something like 10x10 while the window size remains the same, and will crash seconds after. The auto-save bug others have reported does seem to be fixed however, and the game is reasonably playable overall.
Seems to work 1:1 with Windows, bugs included :p
Broken character portraits - fixed by switching to the "closed_beta" branch (password 68387392gnocb).
This is a problem on Windows too apparently
Starts in windowed mode 720p and crashes when quitting as others have said. Steam Input Per-Game Setting had to be "Forced Off" for the 360 controller to work. Everything else works fine, I had no need to use Wine D3D11 over DXVK, constant 60fps at 1440p, no stuttering.
Game runs out-of-the-box with acceptable performance. Both player stats and server browser crash have been fixed. Slight stutter (could be shaders) but they're pretty bearable.
Functions fine for the most part after 8 hours of playtime. Performance seems a bit low for my specs and I get random crashes (access violations), although I'm led to believe Windows users suffer from these issues as well. Audio and controller work fine, however I've noticed that during bad weather lightning will flash green. Overall, is playable out of the box, without the need for PROTON_USE_WINED3D.
The game launches and you can go through the menus just fine. Sound and wireless 360 controller work. The game crashes when trying to start a new game. PROTON_USE_WINED3D and PROTON_NO_FSYNC didn't help.
Use 4.2-9 to stop the game crashing past the main menu. the game functions fine but has strange graphical glitches such as a rectangle of artifacts stretching across the middle of the screen on some maps, and foliage/trees lacking transparency. is generally playable but i wouldn't call it comfortable.
The game does start and show the opening logos but once it hits the opening video it crashes, seems to be quartz related.
protontricks 1113000 wmp9 quartz devenum
update from earlier report, the game works flawlessly once you run the aforementioned protontricks command. better than windows in my experience (windows has laggy anime cutscenes, once you run the protontricks not only will they work but they'll play at full speed)
Videos do work with the GE-6.8-2 build, but game will be difficult to play due to the save room bug.
Proton-GE-6.8-2 GloriousEggroll

Xbox One controller not detected with xow
As others mentioned, the game softlocks once you enter a save room twice.
Finished both Artisan World and Peace Keepers. Pre-rendered cutscenes don't work and the mfplat/mfplat-cab fixes don't help. it performs near impeccably bar stutter whenever you enter into a level. I'm running 1440p all Ultra (motion blur disabled) and get ~180fps with vsync/frame cap off. 360 wireless controller works fine.
Game runs at 60fps, sound seems fine, no missing textures etc. However if I start the game with my Wireless 360 Controller connected it gets picked up as a Playstation one with an incorrect mapping. I have to launch the game with controller disconnected, go into settings, connect the controller and then switch from mouse -> controller for it to work.
I can't compare this to Windows, so if the issue exists there too then please consider this a "Platinum" rating.
No issues to report, works and performs as expected with a wireless 360 controller.
The only issue I've really encountered is that the game switches from full-screen to windowed mode anytime the map has to load. Otherwise the game is functionally fine (controller/audio/graphics all work) albeit with underewhelming performance, I'm getting 35-60FPS on a mixture of med/high.
Played up to chapter 4. I've encountered no audio on first run, 360 controller wont work, and 3 different crashes. However, these issues are all 1:1 with Windows, meaning a Platinum rating is suitable. They will be solved with further beta patches from Sega. Performance seems fine overall.
Can now go in game provided you're using the latest DXVK. Crashes immediately if I have a wireless 360 controller already connected, however launching the game without one and then connecting it after will work fine. No issues changing in-game settings, audio works fine. Only complaint really is the performance, on Windows pretty constant 60FPS with everything maxed (except using FXAA instead of SSAA), with Proton it dips down to ~25 in certain areas and is just stuttery overall. It's decently playable however.
Game boots fine, audio & 360 controller also working. Multiplayer not tested.
the configuration tool can launch but the offset of the text and dropdown boxes is misaligned, however i'm unsure if this is an issue on windows as well. you have to launch the game with borderless or windowed mode (no window appears if you use fullscreen), but the game seems to work flawlessly after that.
after installing quartz the game works fine. i've completed both 999 & VLR without issues.
999 needs quartz installed
